I have been using and loving my cm6 build, but now that 4g has been turned on in Columbus Ohio I am really wanting some 4g action until cm6 comes out with 4g. I would flash back to stock but I can't stand sense ui. I looked at the Roms wiki and was overwhelmed with the number of newcomers to the rom game. So is there another nonsense rom that is 4g capable and otherwise worthwhile? Thanks in advance.

As of now, there is no AOSP ROM with the ability to utilize Wimax.
Try flashing barnacles ROM, you pretty much won't even be able to tell you're running Sense. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824637
I've tried Fresh...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743079
Damage Control...

and EvoNonSense...

Evo-NonSense is my keeper 9though it was just updated yesterday & I haven't flashed it yet.

I've been back and forth between Myns and Virus airborne series, currently on Myns and loving it.

+1 Yeah I really like Barnacles rom Frost. Its my rom I'm using now I really like CM the best but I'm in the same boat no 4G. I use my sling box on my phone which needs 4G. Please get 4g working on CM.

So I am a VERY inexperienced user with making roms. So I plan on using evo kitchen to cook up a rom for myself and others who wish to test it. I would like to know what the most preferred rom base is.
Sent from my Evo 4G using Tapatalk
That will be a personal choice. If you ask me, it's Fresh, but that's really the only one I've used consistently. Somebody else will say DamageControl, or Baked Snack, or even the stock 2.2 ROM.
This is a hit or miss and it goes by the user, I have used them all!!! I prefer cm6 right now because with a few teaks it runs so smooth...but right now I'm running Baked Snack and its been flawless all day long!!!All the ROM's out are pretty stable right now so its all up to the user!!!
On that note, what's the attraction to cooking your own ROM? Is it so hard to just find the one that's close to your needs and add/remove the apps you like manually? Or is there more to it?
My main three are...
-- CM6
-- DC 3.5
-- Fresh 3.1.0.1

Nothing like that. I'm some what bored and this is my first android phone so I wanna put stuff together and eventually learn to make a rom without using a kitchen.

I've had a great time with DamageControl 3.5 ever since it's been released. CM6 has been fantastic as well. Decisions, decisions.....

Well that's valid. I climb mountains because they're there.
I've run every rom available since launch day (save the last three CM nightlies)and i'd say there are some seriously talented devs on EVO.
That said, Baked Snack is hands down the best 2.1 rom available. Bar none the best battery life of any rom out, stable and fast.
As far as Froyo, I was switching between roms daily, but once I flashed Calkulin's EViO 1.0.2 rom I was done messing around. By far my favorite of the 20 or so I have tried. Someone is going to have to come up with something pretty spectacular to get me to switch Cyanogen is a good bet once he quits screwing around with all this pre-alpha stuff LOL.

I know it is a subjective question, but I am wondering what is the best rom going for the evo right now? I will soon be moving up to the evo from the hero and I am trying to go ahead and do some research.
Also is there anything else I should do like upgrade the radio, any good kernels?
I'm using aospmod right now for my hero and love the speed and performance. Don't have to have sense at all.
Would also like something that has some good themes available.
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions and help!
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
I didn't have to flash a radio for mine. I'm using Cyanogenmod 6.1.1. I love not having sense.

I just installed Warm, by far the smoothest, fastest ROM I have ever used. So far not too impressed with battery life though
My two favorites are Myns and Cyan

Azrael 2.1
Patiently waiting for 3.0 which should be any time now. I've tried damn near every rom out there I've left and come back twice so now I'm not leaving again

This exactly the response I was looking for. Thanks so much!

Use CM6.1.1 with the updated radio/pri/nv/wimax
When you get your phone update the PRL in the settings, root it, make a nandroid backup (with Amon_RA) and save it to your computer. This is very important. While playing around with your phone you may break your 4G. The only way to fix it is to have your 4G data backed up on your computer. Only Amon_RA recovery does this, clockwork does not back up the Wimax stuff. If you ever mess up your 4G just restore the safety nandroid on your computer.
Once that is done flash the radio/wimax/pri/nv combo in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 and then install CM6.1.1 and just use the stock kernel built into to CM6. CM6 can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596.

What are some good roms to try besides the ones I listed? I've been on miui for awhile now and getting bored. I love the extra features in miui like the visitor mode and all the extra settings.
So can u list some roms u guys like along with some nice features... Thanks

I would suggest the ROM sticky. Having used almost all the ROMs I prefer Caulkin's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745205
From what I've read, 4g does not work with some ROMs (I'm looking at trying out Cyanogen). If my keys are backed up, will my 4g still work when I flash to my previous ROM or a new ROM that supports 4g?
I rooted using Xhausx's autoroot 2.2.
Thank you!

Ive been using azreal's rom for a couple weeks now. Everything works, its fast, and battery lifw seems about average. Its a good sense rom

4G doesn't work on AOSP roms [like cyanogen] Though there is a rom with CM7 with WiMax based off of build 24 [can be found in development section], and offers 4G. Also, you can use an AOSP rom and flash back to a sense rom and still have 4G.
Try Fresh3.5...very stable.
definetally caulkins. the very best there is.
plutonium! give it a try
Calks, burnt droid and liquid port based off bigrushdog
I enjoyed Vael's a lot, but on Mik's currently.

Don't forget Konicub's
A friend of mine has asked me to root his phone and put a custom rom on there. As I have a HTC Glacier myself, I know nothing of the roms for the HTC Evo 4g. So I decided to ask the Evo 4g community directly what they feel is the best and most stable release to date?
Imo, synergy rls1.

In all honesty, the stock ROM is the most stable. HTC worked for a long time to make sure people would not have many issues with their software. As far as something that has some eye candy, try either KingsROM Alliance "The Breed" or Kinged Shooter E3D RLS 2.3. Stock is still my personal favorite as far as stability.
If you read the boards, you can see which ROMS people are having problems with and which ones are getting the best reviews, which leaves you with one real choice: MIUI

Yea I agree the best bet is to read around and see the bug tracker on a rom that may look promising to you. Honestly stock should be your most stable. Its what I put on peoples phones after I root it for them. Less calls that way.
Decks 1.2.1 AOSP, Tiamat 4.07, GPS fix_3, is also what I put on for those wanting a change from Sense roms. All no calls for issues with that rom...
MiUi is also pretty damn good, I run that on my sons phone for him
Is there a stock rom with the 4.53.651.1 update? I want voice search.

Quite sure if you look in the development section you will find one... Or do a search in google or development
MikG Sense ROM has been stable for me and looks great if you like the Sense interface.
Assuming you want most everything to work, including bluetooth:
AOSP based with 4G: CyanogenMod 7.1 RC1
AOSP based, no 4G: MIUI
Sense based with 4G: Shooter RLS 2.3 Odex
Sense based, no 4G: NocturnalRom Beta 3
Of course this is only my opinion. That is the great thing about custom ROMs, everyone has their own taste.
Synergy RLS1 non - godmode by myn is solid
I have looked at a few of the AOSP ROM threads and they say they don't have working 4g but someone on another forum said that even if they say the 4g is not working it actually is in most cases. This is a bit confusing and I don't really feel like flashing a bunch of ROMs to find out which ones actually work so can you guys give me some suggestions? I have only used tw ROMs until now.
I've never heard that all of them should have full working LTE.

Ok thanks for the quick response.
Recommend that you update profile and prl and make a nandroid backup before you start flashing aosp roms.

The 4g works but not as good as it does on a touchwiz rom. In places where my 4g works great on a touchwiz rom I can barely get 4g on a AOSP rom.
MIUI v5 has no LTE. I think the others do though.

This is good to know. In my area, Sprint is just now installing LTE and it's pretty spotty right now.
MIUI v4 has very impressive LTE results. The ROM in general probably isn't as stable as, say, maybe Liquid Smooth. But I have seen an increase of about 10% in LTE data speeds. Which is, to me, significant.

Thank you all for the replies. I always make sure to do a nandroid when flashing any rom. Would hate to lose all my stuff haha. Having flashed multiple tw roms, I'm comfortable with the process but are there any things I should be aware of when flashing AOSP other than flashing the Gapps before rebooting?
