Best rom for evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know it is a subjective question, but I am wondering what is the best rom going for the evo right now? I will soon be moving up to the evo from the hero and I am trying to go ahead and do some research.
Also is there anything else I should do like upgrade the radio, any good kernels?
I'm using aospmod right now for my hero and love the speed and performance. Don't have to have sense at all.
Would also like something that has some good themes available.
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions and help!
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!

I didn't have to flash a radio for mine. I'm using Cyanogenmod 6.1.1. I love not having sense.

I just installed Warm, by far the smoothest, fastest ROM I have ever used. So far not too impressed with battery life though

My two favorites are Myns and Cyan

Patiently waiting for 3.0 which should be any time now. I've tried damn near every rom out there I've left and come back twice so now I'm not leaving again

This exactly the response I was looking for. Thanks so much!

Use CM6.1.1 with the updated radio/pri/nv/wimax
When you get your phone update the PRL in the settings, root it, make a nandroid backup (with Amon_RA) and save it to your computer. This is very important. While playing around with your phone you may break your 4G. The only way to fix it is to have your 4G data backed up on your computer. Only Amon_RA recovery does this, clockwork does not back up the Wimax stuff. If you ever mess up your 4G just restore the safety nandroid on your computer.
Once that is done flash the radio/wimax/pri/nv combo in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 and then install CM6.1.1 and just use the stock kernel built into to CM6. CM6 can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596.

Preferred roms?

So I am a VERY inexperienced user with making roms. So I plan on using evo kitchen to cook up a rom for myself and others who wish to test it. I would like to know what the most preferred rom base is.
Sent from my Evo 4G using Tapatalk
That will be a personal choice. If you ask me, it's Fresh, but that's really the only one I've used consistently. Somebody else will say DamageControl, or Baked Snack, or even the stock 2.2 ROM.
This is a hit or miss and it goes by the user, I have used them all!!! I prefer cm6 right now because with a few teaks it runs so smooth...but right now I'm running Baked Snack and its been flawless all day long!!!All the ROM's out are pretty stable right now so its all up to the user!!!
On that note, what's the attraction to cooking your own ROM? Is it so hard to just find the one that's close to your needs and add/remove the apps you like manually? Or is there more to it?
My main three are...
-- CM6
-- DC 3.5
-- Fresh 3.1.0.1

Well that's valid. I climb mountains because they're there.
I've run every rom available since launch day (save the last three CM nightlies)and i'd say there are some seriously talented devs on EVO.
That said, Baked Snack is hands down the best 2.1 rom available. Bar none the best battery life of any rom out, stable and fast.
As far as Froyo, I was switching between roms daily, but once I flashed Calkulin's EViO 1.0.2 rom I was done messing around. By far my favorite of the 20 or so I have tried. Someone is going to have to come up with something pretty spectacular to get me to switch Cyanogen is a good bet once he quits screwing around with all this pre-alpha stuff LOL.

I wonder if anybody has been lucky to have a working custom kernel with the new leak.

I have tried every custom kernel and no luck . My device keeps looping.

I agree. Are you doing a delvik wipe before you flash the kernel? What kernel you tried? Some kernels are only for 2.1, 2.2, sense only or sell only. Do you have setcpu? Do you have it overclocked and have save on boot checked? Need more info..

Lol.. new leak to me was the new 2.2 froyo Rom that is rooted and leaked. People are not.mind readers. And the 2.2 I'm talking about is the update that hasn't come out yet. So before you get mad about a reply.. you should note if you post something vague expect those replies.
Edit: the new fresh Rom. Look at it. Some consider that as a leak since the update isn't even out yet and he has it and made a Rom.

I used king #8 without problems. Some kernels did the boot loop also for me. But notice on one after it did that a few times it full worked after. Sometime if that happens pull battery. Do recovery and do delvik again. Reboot. Sometimes it takes a fee reboot and don't know why.. let me know. I'll keep checking this for you and help.. I'm going to be up for awhile..

[Q] Best slide [ROM].

Hey everyone. My wife decided her mytouch slide is a little too laggy for her. I have rooted and flashed HTC phones and my vibrant with great success. I am going to do her phone this weekend but I need some help please. I do NOT follow this forum at all so I have no idea what [ROM]s are stable and functioning for everyone else. If I could please get some input from you guys that have been here and have tested these out it would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance
Start with the Slide bible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704567
Personally, I think this is the easiest root method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020
If you want Froyo, Cyanogen is very good if you don't need bluetooth: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755118
If bluetooth is important for you, CR_Mod is said to be an excellent 2.1 ROM. I haven't tried it personally, Froyo is too yummy for me to go back. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7534187#post7534187
Good luck!
The dopio oc kernels are also very stable esp at 768 and 806. Just use set cpu app to maximize battery life.
The cm nightlies are also usually very stable.
The slide reloaded rom is also a sweet themed version of cr's full ota rom.

Yeah was looking for froyo but not necessary. Looked through the bible but wanted some real world feedback. I'm usually partial to eugene373's roms. But cyanogen is a god. Thanks guys. I'll let it ride for a lil while before I make a decision.

Yeah, for my uses, Cyan with the dopio kernel is the way to go 100%. But you never know, once you get the ENG flashed, let your wife play with all the ROMs she can handle until she finds one she likes. ROM Manager makes it ridiculously easy.
What about the galaxy slide rom by infinitybiff? Anyone tried that? I don't use touch wiz on my vibrant but the wife might like it. Still leaning towards cyan. Just need something fast and stable for her. I'm gonna have to theme it for her myself cause there is no one doing that.

cyanogenmod or crmod
I just flashed Galaxy Slide Beta the other day after using CR for the longest time. its the first ROM that i have flashed (and there have been many) that i didn't immediately flash straight back to CR. i am having a minor trouble with the color scheme in the notification pull down and i haven't tried all the features yet... (i.e. bluetooth, tethering, and maybe one or two more) but all in all i love it!

The dopio kernel is integrated into cyanogenmod 6.1+, no need to flash it over again, but other roms you will have to flash it.

Cyanogenmod is froyo, and based off of the AOSP source, so it has a more vanilla flavor to it. CR_Mod is just the rooted stock OTA ROM with a wifi tether, and a2ext built in. CR_Mod is also eclair, it just all depends on what you like better, the latest vanilla customizable stuff, or the more stock HTC sense feel, with all of the t-mobile stuff.

[Q] Best Non-Sense Rom

What's the best Non-Sense ROM out there? I am on Athena but was curious to try something different. Also is there any "good" Gingerbread ROMS?
Thanks in advance!
The "best" is subjective. I'm partial to CM7 as I like a flexible AOSP ROM that I can theme/widget on top of to make it look the way I want. The next person may totally disagree.
Your best bet is to browse development and find the ROMs you like the look of, has little to no issues, and is well supported. As always, nandroid anything you can't stand to lose

Incredibly Re-engineered is a great choice if you're going to try a Sense ROM, as is Magnolia 1.2. For a new Sense ROM (has theming support and a lot of other goodies over the last 2) some good ones are Uber Z RC3.2 and Warm Z RLS1. For non-Sense, I'd definitely recommend Cyanogen Mod 7 RC1. It's fast, stable, and gets great battery life (for me at least). MIUI is good if you really want to shake things up, its launcher is reminiscent of the iPhone OS. Another non-standard ROM is Liquid Metal RC 2.1, it's different from any ROM you'll ever see, guaranteed.
cyanogenMod 7 rc1 stable is a really good one it has a real good feel to it

I use CM7 rc4 with adw ex or launcher pro (depending on my mood) You can also find a lot of good themes for it in the themes and apps section. I like it a lot but ymmv. If you wanna stay with sense, Myn's warm is a good rom, but there havent been any updates in a while.
Thanks I will look it up.

It really boils down to what is good for your taste. I personally got sick of aosp so I went on a r&d hunt to get these sense roms to have respectful battery life. The most popular roms are usually in the 1st two pages of the dev section. Read them and see what jumps at you.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I am sort of old school and don't care much for a bunch of customization. Rather, I prefer good battery life and system speed coupled with minimal if any bloat/stock apps that aren't useful to me. I am stuck on CM 6.1.2 as an aosp rom (don't care for the appearance of cm7/gingerbread, I like vanilla a lot) and FreshRom for Sense when I feel like it. Both roms give me great battery life (24 hours+ with minimal-moderate usage) and are both very stable, no force closes/crashes. I don't mess with different kernels, I just use the ones included with the rom to begin with.
As has been said though, play around with a bunch of them until you find something you like.
If you're new to ROMs, I would at least check out, Miui, CM7 (or variants of, like destroyer), VaelPak, MikFroyo and anything by Kings or Myn. For sense ROMs, just look at screen shots and see which one you like.
Thanks guys I appreciate it
