Roms beside cm miui mikifroyo and myn? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are some good roms to try besides the ones I listed? I've been on miui for awhile now and getting bored. I love the extra features in miui like the visitor mode and all the extra settings.
So can u list some roms u guys like along with some nice features... Thanks

I would suggest the ROM sticky. Having used almost all the ROMs I prefer Caulkin's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745205

From what I've read, 4g does not work with some ROMs (I'm looking at trying out Cyanogen). If my keys are backed up, will my 4g still work when I flash to my previous ROM or a new ROM that supports 4g?
I rooted using Xhausx's autoroot 2.2.
Thank you!

4G doesn't work on AOSP roms [like cyanogen] Though there is a rom with CM7 with WiMax based off of build 24 [can be found in development section], and offers 4G. Also, you can use an AOSP rom and flash back to a sense rom and still have 4G.

Try Fresh3.5...very stable.

definetally caulkins. the very best there is.

plutonium! give it a try

Calks, burnt droid and liquid port based off bigrushdog

I enjoyed Vael's a lot, but on Mik's currently.

A 4g capable non sense rom -- please advise!

I have been using and loving my cm6 build, but now that 4g has been turned on in Columbus Ohio I am really wanting some 4g action until cm6 comes out with 4g. I would flash back to stock but I can't stand sense ui. I looked at the Roms wiki and was overwhelmed with the number of newcomers to the rom game. So is there another nonsense rom that is 4g capable and otherwise worthwhile? Thanks in advance.

Random Question ROM Flashing

Random question: How often do you flash between ROMs? On a daily basis?
Sent from my Evo using XDA App
I am testing the cyanogenmod 7 nightlies right now and i wait about every 3-4 builds (3-4 days). And sometimes back to unrevoked for a gps fix or update prl/profile.
At first, it seemed like every 2 or 3 days, but lately, I've been more content with finding a daily. I had Koni III for a month or so, then Giger for a week and now Mik's, which I bet I keep for a long time.
For a while, I would flash almost every new rom that came out...but then it got to a point where 4 out of 5 roms were all the same base, just themed a little, and a new apk here and there. So I ported my own and been with that/testing changes for a few weeks now.

If you mean my ROM... you can find it here....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072710
It's a hybrid ROM... sense based so all the flash of sense 1.0+sense 2.0 are there, but has shine of the customization options of cm7 baked into it

Awesome. Always lookin to try out new ROMs

I personally flash between ROMs when I see a ROM that has some features that look interesting, bug fixes, or when I get bored.
Also, from my experience of flashing ROMs, some features work better than others. I just make a back-up and switch between 2 or 3 ROMs depending on the circumstances and my need.
For example, one day, I wanted to play Super Mario Bros. 3 so I flashed over to a AOSP Rom - CM7 - so I could play the NES emulator with the Wii controller..
However, on CM7.0.3.1, my 4g crashes when tethering over wifi, but works perfect on usb tether mode. So with that, if I am wanting to tether wifi to watch a netflix movie on the tv, I flash over to either Warm2.2 or MikG 1.x.
I flash just about evening that comes out mostly to play with I'm on mikg v1.02 now and its working great.
And skyraider is a bad ass ROM I definitely have a backup of it thats what I usually run when I'm not near 4g but thats not to much now that 4g is working great even in my house if that ROM had 4g it would be perfect if you haven't tried it you should.

Most stable functional custom ROM

What custom ROM have you found to be the most stable and functional.
Im using CM7 nightlys at the moment
RMK's stock debloated rom. CM7's constantly crashed and did weird **** on me.
I second RMK gingersense.
OMGB. super stable, functional, speedy and customizable. Honestly its my daily with the exception of MIUI
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA Premium App
I love Sense so use the stock debloated gingerbread customized to my liking from UOT Kitchen.

I would have to second cm7 and omgb. omgb is a bit faster imo

What is the difference between the 2 files
I use the debloated gingerbread rom from RMK. I like that one alot. Although recently I have been getting bad data issues. I will prolly try both of these OMGB roms and see which one I like better.
The difference is one has more customized features and the first link is mainly just plain gingerbread with a different font style.
I'm new to this game but I've been very happy with CyanogenMod so far. I've had no crashes or problems yet. It's been exactly what I wanted.

OMGB = Oh My GingerBread = Pure Gingerbread Stock
OMFGB = Oh My Fxxxxxx Gingerbread = Modified/Customized(however you want to call it) version of OMGB
I'm diggin OMFGB right now. Very simple with enough customization options to keep me happy, I'm not really a customization freak though lol. Its been very stable for me since I flashed the 7/24 nightly and is a great ROM overall.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
If you want to stay mostly stock, rmk's Gingersense. Otherwise, I'm running OMGB, and now that I've figured out some more "major" issues, I'm not seeing myself going back.
OMFGB is a slightly more customized version of OMGB, nightlies only (90% sure on that), but still pretty stable too though.
I wish some other ROMs besides RMK had a compass fix. I use google sky and google maps a lot so it's the only ROM I use. I wish some other ROMs would fix the compass issue like they did with the OTA GB update.
left CM for OMFGB so far Im impressed. I realized I really liked sense and I can actually hear people when they call. I also like the fact when you dial a couple digits of the persons name it brings up their #, Not sure whats that feature is called but That was something I was missing in CM

Are there any ROMs that actually work

Are there any stable e4gt roms that are better than stock ek02 with everything working cuz battery life is a poor trade off for working features in my opinion. Example if wimax is not working or tether to get more battery life whats the point

I am also not sure how to approach this. There are only a few roms that don't support wimax.. I suggest calkulins. It's my go to rom. I've heard starburst is pretty good too.. But in the future, please try to read a bit. maybe look at the roms that have a lot of view and/or comments. The OP of each thread will tell you just about everything you need to know.
IMO, there is no more stable custom ROM right now then UnNamed. If I wasn't so flash happy, I would stay with that but I'm changing ROMs every 2-3 days now...
But anyway, yeah UnNamed is the best ROM as far as stability is concerned.
Oh and I got over a day of moderate use from it. Don't believe me though, try it out!
Have not tried unamed yet

+1 for Calkulin's roms. Good battery life, stable, so far I have not encountered any issues.
I've been extremely pleased with Calkulin's ROM. I have tried unnamed (which I also like) but I prefer the 5 icon dock and 5x5 app drawer and undervolt/underclock scripts in Calkulin's.
No, none of them actually work...stay on stock...

MJHawaii is right.. UnNamed is a hell of a rom especially with a few tweaks added in. I am quite sure you will not find anyone unhappy with it. Also like mentioned before there is a whole development section of great roms. Just make sure when you try them all you do not restore data and flash all of them cleanly and not on top of each other.
For battery life on this phone may I recommend 200-800 since your phone can clearly handle it...
no offence, but either dont flash and stay on stock or there is always the good ol flip phones!

Got to agree with the previous poster that suggested you just stay on stock. I'd prefer not having to see posts/threads like this in the future....
For the record however, I've been happy with Calk's, Unnamed AND for quite a bit of time now (a whole month or so!) Blend is my current Daily and it is brilliant.

blazer is my daily driver.
i have not tried a single rom that has just flat out been unstable or unusable though; i steer clear of early/experimental builds, bust most of the roms in the dev section for this phone are pretty complete and comprehensive.
this is my first android device and initially i had trouble just rooting the thing, but thanks to xda's dev section my first flash was a piece of cake and i've had no issues or major complaints in 3 months of jumping rom to rom.
Just an observation. But your avatar shows you have at&t, shouldn't you be in a different section? This forum is for the Samsung epic 4g touch. Maybe thats why the roms aren't working. Unless you just havent updated your profile. (Im guilty of that as well)

[Q] Recommendations for updating my Epic 4G

Hi All,
I'm looking to update my phone with a new ROM/OS. I've rooted before and believe I currently have a MIDNIGHT ROM loaded (see attached phone screen-shot). I see references to CM9 and CM10, ICS/JB. I think i know the processes, ODIN, etc.... I'd just like to be pointed to the most stable, current files.
Thanks in advance.
If you want the most stable and best for the Epic 4G and coming from Midnight you may want to stick with one of the FC09 Toichwiz ROMs. If you are more adventurous and don't mind an AOSP ROM then CM9 is Ice Cream Sandwich for this phone. There are still a few bugs in CM10 and the Jellybean variants.

TPR is a great stable ROM. Great battery life, all the toggles, smoothness tweaks, etc. I went to it after CleanGB and even gave the included Zeam Launcher a whirl. Try it out. You won't be disappointed. I got the flashing bug after a couple months and have tried AOKP M6, CM9, then went back to TPR. Now I've gone to CM10, but may yet go back to TPR for the stability and great battery life.
Edit---
Be sure to Odin or flash the FC09 modem.

Frankly, I can't say for sure if FC09 is any better than earlier versions, but I have always had good luck running the latest official released modem. If you're comfortable using Odin, changing modems is easy and not particularly risky. There are CWM flashable versions of the modems, but that involves flashing a modded kernel, flashing the modem, then reflashing your intended kernel. To be honest, I think Odin is safer and simpler for modems.
