I have looked at a few of the AOSP ROM threads and they say they don't have working 4g but someone on another forum said that even if they say the 4g is not working it actually is in most cases. This is a bit confusing and I don't really feel like flashing a bunch of ROMs to find out which ones actually work so can you guys give me some suggestions? I have only used tw ROMs until now.
I've never heard that all of them should have full working LTE.

Ok thanks for the quick response.
Recommend that you update profile and prl and make a nandroid backup before you start flashing aosp roms.

The 4g works but not as good as it does on a touchwiz rom. In places where my 4g works great on a touchwiz rom I can barely get 4g on a AOSP rom.
MIUI v5 has no LTE. I think the others do though.

This is good to know. In my area, Sprint is just now installing LTE and it's pretty spotty right now.
MIUI v4 has very impressive LTE results. The ROM in general probably isn't as stable as, say, maybe Liquid Smooth. But I have seen an increase of about 10% in LTE data speeds. Which is, to me, significant.

Thank you all for the replies. I always make sure to do a nandroid when flashing any rom. Would hate to lose all my stuff haha. Having flashed multiple tw roms, I'm comfortable with the process but are there any things I should be aware of when flashing AOSP other than flashing the Gapps before rebooting?

Nope....just remember to choose the AOSP variant if you're gonna be switching kernels

I have been using and loving my cm6 build, but now that 4g has been turned on in Columbus Ohio I am really wanting some 4g action until cm6 comes out with 4g. I would flash back to stock but I can't stand sense ui. I looked at the Roms wiki and was overwhelmed with the number of newcomers to the rom game. So is there another nonsense rom that is 4g capable and otherwise worthwhile? Thanks in advance.

As of now, there is no AOSP ROM with the ability to utilize Wimax.
Try flashing barnacles ROM, you pretty much won't even be able to tell you're running Sense. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824637

+1 Yeah I really like Barnacles rom Frost. Its my rom I'm using now I really like CM the best but I'm in the same boat no 4G. I use my sling box on my phone which needs 4G. Please get 4g working on CM.
What are some good roms to try besides the ones I listed? I've been on miui for awhile now and getting bored. I love the extra features in miui like the visitor mode and all the extra settings.
So can u list some roms u guys like along with some nice features... Thanks

I would suggest the ROM sticky. Having used almost all the ROMs I prefer Caulkin's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745205
From what I've read, 4g does not work with some ROMs (I'm looking at trying out Cyanogen). If my keys are backed up, will my 4g still work when I flash to my previous ROM or a new ROM that supports 4g?
I rooted using Xhausx's autoroot 2.2.
Thank you!

4G doesn't work on AOSP roms [like cyanogen] Though there is a rom with CM7 with WiMax based off of build 24 [can be found in development section], and offers 4G. Also, you can use an AOSP rom and flash back to a sense rom and still have 4G.
Try Fresh3.5...very stable.
definetally caulkins. the very best there is.
plutonium! give it a try
Calks, burnt droid and liquid port based off bigrushdog
I enjoyed Vael's a lot, but on Mik's currently.

Don't forget Konicub's
So I've been looking unsuccessfully for a JB Rom that doesn't bork my 4g speeds. On stock kernels I get 8-9 mbs down consistently, then flashing to CM10, PA, CNA, etc I'll get 600kpbs down consistently on 4g. I can then flash right back and get 8-9mbs down consistently, so it isn't a service issue.
I really am not a fan of the stock TW rom, and really like the customization that some of these awesome ROMs offer, but at the same time I don't want to be stuck on essentially 3g speeds when I paid for 4. Does anyone know of a good JB rom or kernel that keeps the 4g speed of stock? TIA
Edit to add: Or is there something else going on that's causing 4g speeds to suck? I'm under the impression that it's something with a custom kernel. On stock kernel I get high speed, and also if I flash AGAT's stock repack I get high speeds as well, but I've yet to find another kernel that keeps those speeds. Thanks.
From what I have read, until we get a stock JB kernal for our phone, we are going to have some issues, and 4g is probably one of them. Just be thankful you have 4g, a lot of us dont
Oh don't get me wrong I am thankful, just ignorant as to why a kernel would do that and if there was a fix

Can't we just flash one of AGAT's ics kernels to fix the issue

This pretty much hit it.
The JB Kernel for the E4GT has just barely been released and our developers are still working on getting the kinks out. They've done a phenomenal job so far, I might add. One thing you can try is looking for a ROM / Kernel / Modem combination that will most appease your desire for 4G speeds. I have personally had a lot of success with Paranoid Androids ROM and stock kernel running FI25 (Modem).
When it really comes down to it, we just all have to be patient and thankful for our devs!
Good luck

All the touchwiz rom are stable, the difference between them are themes and features like multi window. 4.2 AOSP roms are a w.I.p imo, but the little bugs can be tolerated.

Especially Sense 4.0+. Beautiful.

it sounds like most people like either CM10 or AOSP. any techies out there able to explain what one has that the other does not? I have used CM for years, but unfamiliar with AOSP. The other thing i liked having for the Epic, was I was able to switch back and forth between the stock rom and CM9 for Sprint updates. Can i still do that with the GS3? I was looking for the Stock Rom to have as a zip but did not find it on the forum. Helps with Sprint updates

CM is an AOSP style rom.

what does CM10 offer that the stock rom does not?
Fo sho its the Rom to have and use is the Chemistry Rom because I have a GS3 fleshed to boost and all my main functions I need all work with this ROM. My mms and my voice mail. And with Ktweaks kernel I am getting some serious battery time on this ROM so its over all the perfect ROM right now to have. And my man Sac is there every step of the way to give support and help with any issues
If you use cm10 or any aosp or aokp rom you lose all the goodies in touchwiz like motion effects.

It gives you a clean, stock android look, theme able, no bloatware, uses less ram. I have heard better battery life but I don't know. It has CM10 tweaks. If you can wait till cm10.1 is stable, it should be pretty awesome.

does anyone know if there is a zip file of the stock 4.1.1. rom out there so that if I do download cm10 rom, i could switch back and forth between CM10.1 and stock rom
Make a backup in recovery. Thats what its there for

Most of the roms in the Dev section are rock solid (minus a few bugs which are normal in almost everything) the only way to figure out which you are going to like is to read the OP of a few that sound interesting, flash and take it for a drive (give a day or two typically) unless you can't stand it. MOAR, TPR, and FAT ASS (Cartman Edition of TPR) are all great TW based roms, offer all the fun of normal TW.. Incredible themeing options via Morphology.
Free GS3 is another great rom (from what i hear) as well. I haven't personally ran this one either, but does work with Morphology for themeing options.
Just scan the dev section. You'll find a good fit.

Well buddy that's a matter of personal preference. Find out what you like your phone to do and find a rom that suit your needs. Unfortunately you won't get a definitive answer on this subject. Trial and error until you find what you like.
