Update desire , rom or from htc sync - Desire General

Hey.
I got my desire 2 days ago.
Can I update from htc software (sync) or do I have to update from Rom?
Is the Droidleak Rom or what its called better than stock 2.2 sense(the one with 100 users in Rom vote)?
Will 2.3 come from htc or only from xda in Rom?
I previously owned x10i and is therefore new to the whole Rom thing

the only 2 ways you can update roms are.
1) unrooted users can download and install ota (over the air) updates straight from the phone.
2) rooted users can just donwlad the lastest custom roms with the updates included.
there is maybe a 1% chance that htc will officialy release gingerbread for the desire, although its almost certain that we will be amoungst the first devices to get custom gingerbread roms, just because the desire is almost exactly the same as the N1, which untill the Samsung N2S is released, is the official google developer phone.

Tnx. I think I understand now.
Should I bother installing roms before gingerbread, is it a performance jump?

i think the performance boost came in froyo, gingerbred is more of a visual upgrade than a perfomance one.

I ment:
is it better to use ROM from android development or just use stock sense, which came with my phone until gingerbread is rolled out?
I think the sense firmware (2.2) that came with my phone is fast enough, the only things i would like to achieve with a ROM is better battery life, and is there any new features or something? (i see that hotspot is in my phone as default(NICE)
tnx for helping a newbie to desire out

The only reason I have found to instal a custom ROM is because of the APP2SD+ which gives much more space for apps.. i tried new kernels and hacks but nothing proved to me that indeed i have more juice in it You can root just for the heck of it in order to experiment for yourself

Gingerbread on the defy

I just got a defy and I want to put froyo or gingerbread on it but I want to keep the rom it came with. Is there a ofical release that hasn't gone ota? And I want to put sense wigets like the clock and friend stream but keeping the rom it came with?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Or is there a way to use cm mod 7 without changing the rim theme and wigets?

Are u a total noob or a troll? The only way to go from Eclair (or wurev u have) to Froyo is a whole new rom. They are entirely different versions of the os. U will have to find a rom that is similar at best. As far as the Sense clock goes.. either put on a Sense rom or download Beautiful Widgets.

So polite.
There's no Gingerbread for Defy, the only attempt to do is CM7, in beta stage (don't use if you really need your phone for normal use). And probably a official 2.3 will never be released. That are only one official Froyo for Defy, from Korea, and many leaked Froyos from everywhere. I suggest you to try 3.4.2-155-002, it's the most stable at the time, with good speed. If you want custom ROMs, try Jboogie BlurGinger at first, when you are confortable with the proccess of installing custom ROMs, try Barebones and xd1.
Is there any word about froyo coming and when
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
either 3.4.2.155-002 or 3.4.2.117 (2.2.2) its fine for my experience CM7 another alternative for 2.3 but need to stable
What about this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvM20jfekfM
if flashing it makes my phone make that racket i dont want it ROFL
i might be a total noob, but afaik cm is not possible for the defy because of the locked bootloader, right? or am i missing something here? oh and btw i use 3.4.3-11, no problem so far, processor speed is about 60%+ compared to the stock eclair
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I prefer 2.2.1 at 2.3.3 cm7 , more stable , gingerbread is useless , what have more to froyo ? none ^^

WPA-EAP Enterprise bug fixed in 2.3..that might be useful for some people, like me..and performance improvements
It's a hard work
Gingerbread could be much faster. I'm finding cm7 pretty fast. For now 2.2 , when stable cm.
Just look at improvements in benchmarks after official gingerbread update.
Cm looks very cool. Many themes and improvements.

Its now possible by 2nd ...
Just browse forum. It loads while GSM boots.
But cm7 is not yet stable (only a few days in developement). For now your rom s good in my opinion.

Why guys do you think, that there will be no official update to Gingerbread for Defy?
Well.. clues show that the leaked Gingerbread builds are accrued trough development of a new device whioch seems to be named "Defy+".
I think I've read that summer 2011 motorola will bring out a cheaper version of defy which hasn't got the lp67 feature. So rugged but not waterproof or something like that. maybe the leaked rom is written for that defy?
Possible. As today we are only able to speculate.
When i flash this leaked ginger release, how can downgrade to official france that i use now?

Who else is looking forward to G2 official 2.3 so we can get some new AOSP roms!

I can't wait! I know we have 2.3 already but am very excited bout some new roms based off of it using the proprietary drivers and stuff that was made specifically for this phone! I know the desire z finally came out but not a big fan of sense. Love my CM but ready for a change of scenery I did not have this phone in the beginning but I'm assuming there was a butt load of custom froyo roms based off the official till froyo became old news.

the leaked gingerbread build for the g2 is the official and there are already asop roms out. check out rmks glite rom.
Totally agree with you OP! Use to like sense but not much anymore, to me feels like a bloatware and takes up to much resources. Whilst I do love CM7, theres always somthing that doesn't function quite right.
Has the official 2.3 update arrived yet for the G2? Or any ETA's?

Its not the final. People who have gotten the phone with that build of gb on it from tmobile (refurbs) have been told they have accidentally gotten a test build of gingerbread on it. Also if it was really the final why would it have been finished months ago and still not released.

How to Root Desire HD to ICS and Sense UI 3.5

Hi,
I hv not rooted my desire HD yet and not aware of how to. Can someone guide me with a step to step process of doing it?
Is it advisable to root?
Will that hamper my phone?
As currently the battery life sucks in DHD, will it improve the battery life ?
And How do I get stable icecream sandwich with sense UI 3.5 ??

There are plenty of guides on how to do this, use the search function.
Yes.
No.
It can do.
you can't.
Thanks for the reply.
If not stable, how good is the ICS that's ported into DHD... as I was going through the forum found one . Should I wait for the rooted version from someone else ?? Will that b available with sense UI 3.5...?

I think the thread you refer to was started last week, and has about 90 pages already. It does say "devs only" or something similar.
If you read through it, you'll see if it meets your needs. It sounds highly experimental to me though.
Again, depends what you want. If it's ICS at any cost, well there you are. If you want more stability, go for a Gingerbread ROM like Leedroid/Revolution, the latest versions of which have updated Sense.
If you just want the ICS eye candy, you can make it look like ICS via a launcher.
All the same, read through the guides for preparing your phone for flashing a ROM. It sounds complicated at first, but it's actually very easy, just follow the guides.
You should wait, the devs are trying to make it work maybe next week or in 2 weeks we might have a version already but if not you can wait for cm9 which is coming in December/January as for the sense question it will come with sense 4.0 when htc releases it I guess

Warning though it gets very addictive

Proportion of Android versions on desire

Most are using Gingerbread. Some are on ICS. Any user who is still on Froyo at this point probably doesn't have any idea about rooting and or XDA or just wanna be left alone in the past.
No need for a poll or a thread really.

Ye.
Best rom thread with a flavor twist.
I'm on ICS now (miui v4)
MIUI 2.3 working perfectly
ICS too ! With the rom of dk_zero-cool.
Everything runs fast on my old device
would be interesting who is still on 2.1
I think that was the shipping version, right?
Still using xj miui 2.3
Currently on off GB, downloading runnymede's sense 3.5 rom

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
I'm using ICS from DK_Zero-Cool (v3.3u1). Most stable one i've experienced until now
MIUI XJ since New year, probably will try with some Sense ROM soon
I'm still using CM7.2 RC1. Very stable and fast.
Could anyone explain to me why everybody is so hyped about ICS? I mean I appreciate what the devs of ICS ROMs do and it's great that they make ICS possible on our old Desires.
I tried Sandvold's ROM and BCM. They're quite good and making good progess, but I always came back to CM7.
I actually don't see a point in switching to ICS (yet) unless you like flashing and testing new ROMs, because CyanogenMod 7 and other 2.3 ROMs seem more stable and faster and they have all the features ICS offers.
Is it the looks of ICS or just that it's new and you want to test it?
I'll probably switch over eventually, but at the moment I'm just curious what you like about ICS.

How (un)stable is your One X?

How unstable is your One X?
Lately I've been having a tell of a time... probably from the unstable CM10 JB ROMS I've been trying?
How about you?
What stability problems, and what ROM/class?
My answer:
With these CM10 ROMs (CM10 nightly, Demination, etc.) I've been having random reboots all the time - and sometimes the phone is just slow as all getout... checking the SD card forever... in some cases just using the keyboard has unprecedented lag.
Change a Rom
Hy there everyone,
I've been using my (second) HOX for about a month now... still on stock, still, and I don't know why but some days it just reboots itself even multiple times for no reason and others it's like a dream.
Anyone else having this "issue".
Rgds.

Haven't had any stability problems, ever. Used nearly every single ROM on XDA and they're all stable to me... (some of the CM10 nightlies weren't)
btw, IceColdJelly is amazing (Y)

I just went to a MIUI sense ROM and wow, what an amazing experience. Massive customisations available, the theme engine is incredible, you get the Sense camera back (and boy is it good after months on CM10), plus battery life is good. So far as stable as a rock too.
I've been running the latest nightlies (flashing every day) and havent had a single issue.
I'd suggest doing a full wipe and starting over.

Surely.
But then, I could also just make my own ROM to suit my needs. The Google Developer docs should give me everything I need, no?
Who needs forums anyways?
BTW:
What ROM are you using? Is it stable? Which ones have you tried? How did they go?
How long does it take you to try all the latest versions of all 50 some One X Roms each month?
Stable like a rock with official sense based ROMs
it requires heavy OC to even make it reboot
any insatiability is the ROM to blame
Perfectly stable running the latest CM10 nightly with NCX kernel
Mine is pretty stable when face down, but on its back it rocks a bit.
Rock solid with stock rom
few bugs, not critical and already tossed to HTC CSR (PlayBook missing icon, WiFi problem across WDS network/repeaters, People link broken if provider like FB, LinkedIn, Skype or Twitter aren't accessible while device attempt to sync)
Never rebooted neither turned off-on, always active and connected to 3G of WiFi if indoor, massive email traffic and all Google services active (calendar, GDrive, Latitude, etc.)
As stable as a mountain with CM10 nightly & Bricked kernel.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Rebooted probably twice or thrice in 5 months.
Stock. Unrooted. Locked.
Locked, unrooted, completely stock never rebooted since April. Comparing to my HTC Desire it is as stable as the most stable thing in the world

You've got bored with android after using ios for long time? Wow....take a look at play store, unlike ios, you can customize android heavily without rooting.
@all,
All stability issues are gone since updates in June and August, so every issue you have is connected to a) Rom you've flashed, b) f!cked up app, you've installed from play store, c) your hands or your basic android knowledge (sorry to say this, but it's true).
So, the thread should be closed and marked as solved.
