Hi,
I hv not rooted my desire HD yet and not aware of how to. Can someone guide me with a step to step process of doing it?
Is it advisable to root?
Will that hamper my phone?
As currently the battery life sucks in DHD, will it improve the battery life ?
And How do I get stable icecream sandwich with sense UI 3.5 ??

There are plenty of guides on how to do this, use the search function.
Yes.
No.
It can do.
you can't.
Thanks for the reply.
If not stable, how good is the ICS that's ported into DHD... as I was going through the forum found one . Should I wait for the rooted version from someone else ?? Will that b available with sense UI 3.5...?

I think the thread you refer to was started last week, and has about 90 pages already. It does say "devs only" or something similar.
If you read through it, you'll see if it meets your needs. It sounds highly experimental to me though.
Again, depends what you want. If it's ICS at any cost, well there you are. If you want more stability, go for a Gingerbread ROM like Leedroid/Revolution, the latest versions of which have updated Sense.
If you just want the ICS eye candy, you can make it look like ICS via a launcher.
All the same, read through the guides for preparing your phone for flashing a ROM. It sounds complicated at first, but it's actually very easy, just follow the guides.
You should wait, the devs are trying to make it work maybe next week or in 2 weeks we might have a version already but if not you can wait for cm9 which is coming in December/January as for the sense question it will come with sense 4.0 when htc releases it I guess

Warning though it gets very addictive

Hey.
I got my desire 2 days ago.
Can I update from htc software (sync) or do I have to update from Rom?
Is the Droidleak Rom or what its called better than stock 2.2 sense(the one with 100 users in Rom vote)?
Will 2.3 come from htc or only from xda in Rom?
I previously owned x10i and is therefore new to the whole Rom thing

the only 2 ways you can update roms are.
1) unrooted users can download and install ota (over the air) updates straight from the phone.
2) rooted users can just donwlad the lastest custom roms with the updates included.
there is maybe a 1% chance that htc will officialy release gingerbread for the desire, although its almost certain that we will be amoungst the first devices to get custom gingerbread roms, just because the desire is almost exactly the same as the N1, which untill the Samsung N2S is released, is the official google developer phone.
Tnx. I think I understand now.
Should I bother installing roms before gingerbread, is it a performance jump?

i think the performance boost came in froyo, gingerbred is more of a visual upgrade than a perfomance one.
I ment:
is it better to use ROM from android development or just use stock sense, which came with my phone until gingerbread is rolled out?
I think the sense firmware (2.2) that came with my phone is fast enough, the only things i would like to achieve with a ROM is better battery life, and is there any new features or something? (i see that hotspot is in my phone as default(NICE)
tnx for helping a newbie to desire out
The only reason I have found to instal a custom ROM is because of the APP2SD+ which gives much more space for apps.. i tried new kernels and hacks but nothing proved to me that indeed i have more juice in it You can root just for the heck of it in order to experiment for yourself
Been useing opendesire seen 1st day of buying it. But i understand theres going to be no more updates is this right if so whats the best thing to do now would really like a stable rom ware everythink works. Thanks

Well AdamG is now working on Oxygen 2.0 so if you want to keep with the same dev it's the way to go. At the moment we are on RC7, but in the next few weeks the final build will be released, we are just waiting on the new Gingerbread OTA for the NexusOne.
Keep an eye out for it if you don't want to use a release candidate (at the moment the camera doesn't work in high quality video recording), I highly recommend it.
The thing to do would be to learn to read. In the development section for example.

Oxygen RC7 is here, take a look at it. Like I said the only thing that isn't functioning is the camera. Adam didn't want to hack up the Framework to get the camera hack working like Richardtrip has done for Ginger Villain But I love Oxygen and would highly reccomend it. A couple of weeks and the release of Nexus One OTA will be about and the Oxygen final build will be uploaded.

Hello all, lets discuss your feelings, emotions, confusions:what:, predictions, fears, jubilation etc etc about the upcoming release of ics sense 4 for desire HERE, in THIS thread, and leave the dev threads for logcats, tweak scripts and bug fixes..... desire has a few devs left, try to keep them here.....

Great idea ....
I never really got into Sense, as I quickly rooted my phone and went with a CM type of ROM - and now using BCM9 3.3.1
However, my wife like Sense on her Desire ... so I am keen to see v4, as this seems to have been stripped back a bit from the bloated GB version.
I originally chipped in towards Shaky's Desire so that he can get on with Dev'ing for it.
Hopefully it comes soon.

Your choice, everyones got the right of having opinion... I personally love miui and sense roms although they have always been a little laggy for me later on [gb ics both].... cm7, oxygen etc have been super fast, but they lack the special elegance, beauty, whatever you call it....sense n miui, they LOOK good.... sense has the elegance, miui too.....cm7 has millions feature tweaks themes, but always keeps missing something.. oxygen is too barebones, and I hate the stock apps on it, almost always replaced with apps from store....

Anyone know - informed guess or not - weather, with the inclusion of Sense framework this will mean 720p video recording will be possible/ported with this rom? If so, perfect!
what???
@bingley
no one KNOWS that....
you get what you get.... i doubt whether devs will put that much effort into stuff like 720p recording, or 2way call-rec**8 watever that is, etc etc....... Even if they make a fully functional port will be more then enough for most of us..... i doubt usb tether will be not there and vid cam might give trouble just like ics stock.. otherwise the same functions wud be possible....
I don't know about the general opinion, but for me 2 way call record is a dealbreaker.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I provided the reason for me not even considering ics, not to mention tons of bugs and lag.
There recently were some Chinese Desires released with specs similar to our desire what proved our desire can run ICS Sense 4 romantic smoothly. Sense 4 nice. Would like to try it on my phone.

Once I tried ICS is hard to go back... unless I'm putting stability above everything else, which I am.
But I'm patiently waiting till ICS sees stability and smoothness, then I might reconsider it
And I believe it can be such a smooth experience and fast, not much diference from GB roms, after all, desire has a pretty good specs.
I think I heard people say Sense 4 is less mem hungry than sense 3.6 anyway
HI Guyz,
I am not a dev. So please pardon me if i am wrong. When i visited a mobile shop to get a new mobile for my cousin,
1. I saw HTC Explorer , which in configuration is wayyyyyyy below desire. But i was awestruck with the smoothness of it. The appdrawer, swiping between homescreens, widgets etc. but i cannot have the same smoothness even with the official sense 1.9 ? Why is that ?
2. I saw HTC Desire C which is based on 600 MHz Cortex-A5. WTF. ? It has ICS. I can sense that ICS will be very laggy in the handset but my question is how this weak chipset has fully functional ICS and Sense 4.0 ? I still feel HTC Desire is very powerful and capable enough to run ICS. !!
Thanks,
Karthik

You could try to download desire c rom, change all "desire c" string to "desire" and see if it works...
lol, it's not so simple to port a rom, it's a different architecture of chip, different screen resolution, different drivers... etc etc...
Like if you run a game on a quadcore with full resolution and the same on a pentium4 with 640x480.. do you understand a little?
I think that the progress in ICS and JB is fantastitc, so appreciate the dev's work and don't pretend too much.

Thanks for your reply and please dont be obnoxious when you reply to someone. Its not that I doubt the devs. What i am trying to say is when a 600 mhz powered device can run ICS, why not ours (out of the box. just with minor tweaks) like transition from Froyo to GB. ?? I was totally upset to see ICS in Desire C rather than mine. I hope we will have fully functional ics/jb not without our excellent devs. !!

Ok, the fact is also that desire c has htc's drivers, our desire hwa was written from scratch by evervolv team, so it isn't an official released properly functioning.
It's correlated with the problem that cyanogenmod don't support it for cm9.
There are a few different ICS roms that work really well and smoothly for the Desire. BCM is based on CM9 but nikez rom and sandvolds rom are not. The only problem I have encountered is video playback issues which can be solved my using mx or rockplayer. Otherwise imo the desire ICS roms are quicker than GB. The devs have done a great job porting these to desire.

Wait... I believe that who tried mildwild 4.3 can say that is quicker, faster (maybe not smoother) rom for desire. With the option of choosing where to put apk and data of each app (if in internal or ext) I can open frequently used app in a second, camera Miui app is perfect and it has no bugs. The only benefits that I saw in ICS was running heavy games with good frame rate (the same game is laggy in GB) and using 4.0+ apps. But so far I found ics and jb rom slower (repeat I mean opening apps and overall quickness). Btw the job by evervolv team and nikez is fantastic and I guess that JB development will go furrher and better than ics

Since Shaky stop developing his Sense 4.0 ROM, this side of the HTC desire development has stopped. The ROM, though in alpha, was working brilliantly well. Everything was smooth, and there were many thing working. Why did shaky stop? That build has so much potential. I really hope that he is still developing his rom in secret, so that he makes a "surprise stable full version" release.

I didn't even notice that Shaky deleted his XDA account. I'm a bit worried about him. What happened?
So, if shaky stopped developing, does that mean that the Desire will never get a full version of the 4.0 Sense, even if it can run it very smoothly?
Begging the devs won't help...
I want this port so much that I'm willing to take Linux classes and to port it myself.
Sooo, is any developer kind and willing enough to continue shaky's work? I know this sounds like begging, but many Desire users really want the 4.0 Sense.
To prevent noobish spamming, like shaky had, devs could just release a full version when it's done.

Hi folks,
I've posted this request in another forum and was suggested MildWild 5.0 and then I went and installed Sandvold beta 18. It seemed fine and after a few hours of tweaking, had it set up exactly how I wanted it. Sent a text to someone, put the phone down and about 15 minutes later pick it up again and see it appeared to have formatted itself and was back on the very start screen when I first booted it to the phone with the "Tips" and everything! Also, the home button now doesn't do anything at all.
It looks cool and everything and has nice features, but I simply can't have a phone with such unpredictable behavior. Also installed it at the same time to my friends desire and he's having issues with it too.
I went to have a look at Mildwild 5.0 and the thread seems to have posters complaining of other problems too.
Is there any 4.0 ROM that is absolutely stable and simply just "works" with everything, gps, radio, no restarts or any unpredictable behavior.
I need the phone for business use so I'm not too pushed about having the absolute latest build, ICS is fine for example, I don't want JB if it's unstable. I just need a rom that works!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
buy new phone with ics
on desire nikez rom is good, evriting except camera
Thanks for the reply I'd prefer no to buy a new phone, most of them are the larger screens nowadays and a desire is about as big as I want to have for work reasons (I do furniture removals so anything bigger would get in the way).
So it's really going to be about finding a proper ROM. Thanks for the suggestion of nikez, but I'd prefer to go with something where everything just works, no camera issues even, if possible.
Is CM9 available for the desire?

2.x is Gingerbread
3.x is Honeycomb
4.0 is ICS
4.1 is Jelly Bean
I suggest to stick with 1 of the GB ROM's.
Is there any stability advantages of the nloooo version over the regular 7.2, or is it just it has the experia theme? Hard to understand all the different options. And what about the spazedog, that's ICS, right?
I think I should probably stick with the gingerbread, which MildWild is running, so I think I'll give MildWild a chance as I heard good things about it and hope it doesn't cause me pain!
ICS and stable/reliable don't mix together.
So I'd politely ask for drool party to stop. Op stated his requirements and 4.0 doesn't fit in if you walked on your eyebrows.
