So if I install visionary and run it succsessfully does that mean I don't have to download any files or anything?? will it work without me having to do anything else to complete the root process?? Can somebody explain?

they say there is a newer method of getting root but I followed this guy's guide on youtube. He is a fellow user here and his video guide was very helpful.

Are you using visionary14? I believe you should temp root, then follow instructions for getting s-off, then lock in permroot. The OP details the process in his instructions from the forum thread where you got visionary14.

I saw in the development section rooting with:
Visionary temp root/gfree
It looks very easy!
Is this the preferred rooting method?

I would suggest rooting using the instructions HERE in the XDA WIKI this is the preferred rooting method. Its uses Rage to temp-root and Gfree to perm-root. This is the safest and most reliable way to root. Visionary has caused a lot of problems and has led to quite a few perm bootlooped phones.

Just use what I posted above, its the easiest method to root 2.2. All you need to do is restart to clear the temp root.

Unrevoked will install clockwork, then you can install amon RA. Lets not jump the gun you still need root lol.
the way your rooting right now is the way i rooted my phone! i think i ran into that exact same problem back then too....i think i pulled my battery and started over....i cant remember...its been like 7-8 months.
also...what you can do...is run the RUU for 2.2 to wipe your phone (also do a factory reset beforehand too and back up your sd card on your comp) and then start over.
or try a different way...try unrevoked or xHausx's method: [ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Auto Root ~~~ v2.5 (4/25/11) - xda-developers
after you got your evo rooted....flash Amon_RA recovery ([Recovery] [09-Feb-2011] RA-supersonic-v2.3 - xda-developers)
hopefully this helps ya out!

The safest way to root your device is to follow the method in the wiki, the only way you can brick your device with that method is if you mistype something.
I had never rooted a device until the G2 and did so the day the devs achieved root while having a cocktail after work. Just double check your typing before sending the commands and all will be well.

This really isn't good advice. OP should read the sticky about Visionary having a high chance of bricking devices before trying to temproot. Follow the guide in the wiki for root, it works well just follow instructions and go slow.
using visionary has low brick rate for temp root...only using it for permroot yields a risk. i only stated what was easiest for me. btw its great advice...lol

But the OP stated that Visionary bricked their device when they attempted to root it and you recommended they use Visionary again.

if u go to the visionary website it states clearly there is no risk for temp root only permroot...but u can also use z4root instead...not sure if thats safer or not

you should know that is specifically regarding the permanent root option.
I wouldn't think twice about temp rooting with visionary. it's not going to harm anything. nonetheless, follow the wiki. it's the way to go.
Best way to root is the xda wiki meathod which i used. its based on gfree meathod. also if u have a branded device u need to create a goldcard first and downgrade if your not at firmware 1.34xxx
Why will this forum not rid itself of the visionary ****. It has ruined so many phones it's just GROSSLY irresponsible for the devs to leave that trash on here. It truly is.
This one is the safest method.

I don't know what guides you followed but get used to reading the stickies that is where the useful information is located:

If you already unlocked the bootloader, then just flash a custom recovery and then Superuser.
Rooted now. How can I s-off ontop of root.

That is the only way to gain S-OFF right now. Why you need S-OFF btw?
No reason really, fastbooting the .img I'm simple. But s-off makes it a little easier

One thing I've noticed is that ky recovery does NOT restore backups. Md5 mismatch. Would this be a ad card problem or recovery its self. Tried flashing 4ext but needed s-off
