I don't know what guides you followed but get used to reading the stickies that is where the useful information is located:

If you already unlocked the bootloader, then just flash a custom recovery and then Superuser.
Rooted now. How can I s-off ontop of root.

...As you can notice root access is easy to be gained but not S-OFF. If you are skilled in android and working with terminal or cmd commands, then you can use this: http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=411...

That is the only way to gain S-OFF right now. Why you need S-OFF btw?
No reason really, fastbooting the .img I'm simple. But s-off makes it a little easier

One thing I've noticed is that ky recovery does NOT restore backups. Md5 mismatch. Would this be a ad card problem or recovery its self. Tried flashing 4ext but needed s-off

Hello just one question, I have rooted my desire with unrevoked and using a custom from LeeDroid, all working great only thing is if I wanted to get my phone back to stock Ruu, do I need a goldcard and can I create a goldcard even now that I have rooted and using a custom rom?

What was your original rom? If there's one on shipped roms from your provider, you may not need a gold card.
Have you got the original roms details?

Yes I have already downloaded the original one
RUU_Bravo_Froy2_UK_2.14.207.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed
done that befor I even started rooting with it being signed that mean I dont need goldcard I hope so
If that's the same rom that was originally on it, then you wont need a goldcard
You could still create one tho! now you've been reading up. It wont do any harm at all.

almost in tears with the stress!!
You need to downgrade first, then root and after that you can s off and flash roms.
Use the search function there are lots of guides.

wow this is so confusing, do i have to downgrade, then root, ....then what? all i want to do is put clockworkmod on it so i can intall miui :S but thanks
im as confused as u, ill just try the ultimate multi tools, but mine is android 2.2
Well im guessing your phone isnt rooted which is the first issue you need to solve. The next would be turning s-off to allow you to flash custom roms.
Everything you need to know is in the guides.

I used UMT for that, then i flashed the radio and irl (hope i did it right), then in clockworkmod i flashed the full wipe thingy and then the rom, hope everything goes ok with flashing the rom now...seems its stuck in the log up logo ...
Edit- WORKED!! So happy!! I dont understand s*** of what ive done but it went ok so im really happy . Now time for some downloads xD
On the Desire HD page via my sig there is an XDA Guides section. See the XDA downgrade tutorial link. Then for Android 2.2 or lower, there is a video 'How to root the Desire HD in 5 minutes'. (I already had 2.2 on my new DHD and following the video was very quick.)
(via DHD)
Normally when you flash a DESIRE Z HBOOT ON A g2 THE PHONES DOENT COME ON AND IS NORMALLY AT THE HTC LOGO WHICH IS NORMAL (I KNOW) MY QUESTION IS WHY IS MY PHONE NOT SATYING ON THE G2 LOGO BUT RATHER BOOTING INTO MY PREVIOUS ROM BEFORING UPDATING THE HBOOT TO THE DESIRE Z'S?
Didn't the wiki guide have two sections during the root process? One to setup DZ hboot and another for regular if you didn't want to do it at that time? Perhaps you followed the DZ hboot setup during rooting thinking it was part of the normal process?
Or maybe I'm just nuts. It was a long time ago when I did mine.
I followed the link on the virtous site

If it was to load a sense based ROM then I'd assume that loading the DZ hboot was part of the tutorial. It is required to run sense ROMs.

That link for the DZ Hboot isn't going to work because it's to my Dropbox account and I've deleted the file... I don't use DB for long term storage. If anyone needs it and can't find it elsewhere you can PM me. And if you want to share it please link to your own hosting service.

How to root Bell HTC Desire Z?

You're NOT going to want to use Visionary... it's outdated and when you use it you run the risk of bricking her device. Should be stickies to this effect in several places. The best resource for rooting is going to be found here under "Rooting the Vision (G2/DZ)".

I used the visionary method when rooting and it worked but it will not work if ur G2 is OTA updated..in that case u need to downgrade than try visionary....I do not recomend you use visionary but rather the CM wiki rooting using gfree its much safer and less chances that ull brick ur phone

They are separate... SIM-unlock, hence the name, allows you to use different carrier's SIM cards... if you followed the wiki thoroughly to root with gfree, you'll have SIM-unlock... otherwise, no those "one-click" methods do not unlock your SIM.

b)you looked hard but couldn't find stickied guide on how to do it in this very forum poking in your eyes.
