The problem with that is I already have my phone unlocked. I just didn't get a chance to root it. I don't want to go through unlocking it again and having it erase my phone. I just want to be able to root it. That's all.
I may add that my nexus is the unlocked GSM UK version.
Rooting without deleting everything would be better.
Thanx

Carrier unlocked and bootloader unlocked are different.
You need to unlock the bootloader (which wipes the phone) in order to root it...

I'd recommend starting those backups Protip: if you use dropbox sync in Titanium Backup Pro, you can actually back up your user apps on your old phone (provided you have wifi or your old phone is still active) and restore them on your Gnex. Make sure you do this ONLY for user apps, though.

Although why you would want to root and not do anything else is a mystery.
Did you mean to say what can you do besides root? In that case, we would need to know what model of phone you have in order to polnt you in the right direction.

Even I had the same questions..
I'm on an R800i ..
Android: 2.3.4
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.62
I just got the phone this week, so I'll be happy with the stock rom for a few months..
All I wanna do is root it, so I can remove the bloatware..
(If possible, without having to unlock the bootloader for now)
My last phone was the LG P500 .. and all I needed to root that was run the gingerbreak apk.
Any chance of that working here?
Also, there is a sticky in the dev section for how to root, but that now redirects to a page [WIP] ClockworkMod Recovery - FreeXperia page..
So really confused..
Do I install CWM and then flash that file for rooting?
(is it possible to install cwm without rooting?)
Or do I root it using some other method, and then flash CWM using what that thread says?
Uber confused..
it is not possible to root Rombuild .62 you need to downgrade your rom to.40
dang..
and for downgrading I'd have to use flashtool, right?
wouldn't that format the phone as well?

Hi i am noob as you see with my stupid question. Can i flash CWM by using Haseen2000's One V All-In-One kit, should it be safe, i use GSM version. If something goes wrong, can i flash TWRP, or should i use simply TWRP included with it?
Can i just root my phone by unlocking bootloader, then flashing recovery and then do "Perm-Root" command, should that be fine
better to flash twrp

Ok, so should i be fine with this:
1. Unlock the bootloader (got the unlock_code.bin from HTCDev)
2. Flash TWRP
3. Perm-Root option
Should my phone then be rooted, or do i need to do something else?
I am bit worried just because this is my first Android phone and i am not fully familiar with those things, but i want to do it.
Can there be problems with this?

Great, so i guess, let's do it.
Does rooting and using stock ROM unlock anything stuff etc.. from it?
Rooting will give access to the system files of your android and grant u administrative access over your device, whether u stay on stock or install a custom ROM.

The 'bootloader unlock allowed: yes' doesnt always ahow up. It depends on the android version and some other things. Anyway, if it shows no value for it or it even doesnt show up at all, it means you cannot unlock you BL, not at least by IMEI code method. It is possible through a paid method by alejandrissimo, a well known and trusted member of xda. Just take a look on unlock-bootloader.com (maybe its free now, I dont know)
For unrooting, you should try flashtool (zerg-rush), or the unroot tool, maybe they work on r800at

please go to the thread and read carefully you will find what you need to know
I wanted to find out if anyone thinks it would be useful to be able to root ICS and install CWM without having to downgrade to GINGERBREAD first? I have pulled the unlocked bootloader from the P936's v10i Rom and replaced the locked bootloader from ICS and install CWM Touch and therefore eliminating the need to unbrick your phone first. This includes either full stock or after a fresh install from v18f/v20x. This is done through ADB using a simple bat file.
So I just need to know:
1. Yes I think this is useful or
2. No this isn't useful.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
1. Absolutely. I am on ICS and installing a recovery seems a pain in the ... Of course every easier method would be highly welcome.
Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk
You cannot unlock the bootloader on ICS and you need an unlocked bootloader in order to install a custom recovery from what I have seen and read.
I saw in another post that someone was able to do and I would love to see a bat file that saves us the trouble of unbricking.

I found a way . Actually it more accurate to say that I found a way to push an unlocked boot loader that bypasses the lock. Fully tested. I will provide more details when I get the thread done. No unbricking needed.
