Hi guys,
Curious if anyone can shed some light on the difference in hardware versions, I rooted mine as soon as i got it, and am currently showing hardware version 002, i had seen some screenshots of people with pri 1.40 showing hardware version 003, so I thought the 2 were related, untill I talked to toast and he said he was running hardware version 002. I was in irc, and someone threw out the 002 phones were I/O phones, but I would think not as i got mine from the sprint store the day they came out, as a couple others in irc said they also were on 002 and had gotten there phones from a store. So what is the difference between the 2, and if it is like a firmware update, does anyone know how to update to 003?
Thanks in advance
I got mine on launch day from BB, it's an 0002. There is something physically different in the hardware, so it's not just a firmware upgrade. Some people thought it was the screen early on, but I think they found that both revisions had both screens after all, so that's probably just based on manufacture date or maybe even location.
Can someone please breakdown what all of this talk about "PRI" is for us noobs? Everyone seems to be interested in updating their PRI, hence why I ask. I did a quick wiki on PRI but it was much too confusing for me to understand. Many thanks!

From what i got, it should help getting better signal/better 3G speeds. Then again I'm also a noob so i could be wrong.
Well The bounty page explains it all here is a quote
I like others have had reduced data speeds since receiving my phone. I have talked with HTC in length about this and the PRI stores radio frequencies, channels ect. They said while it might not affect everyone it would affect some. This is all based off what towers you are using ect. This was the reason for the upgrade to the 1.40 PRI. I have been unable to come to a solution with the 2nd level tech over at HTC but trying to work my magic.
The PRI stands for Primary Rate Interface, which is used for carrying multiple digital frequencies for voice and data transmissions between a wireless network and the end user

With that in mind, old PRI=pokey internet, new PRI=CheetahNet
Simple isn't it. Just looking at an OP post.
Also I did this PRI update and it worked wonders.
For those of us that rooted our phones with Toast's method or some variant, it downgraded our PRI to 1.34_003. Some people noticed slower 3G speeds and suspected the PRI to be the culprit. Finally as of last night after a long period of not having a method to update, they found it. If you never rooted your phone, this issue doesn't affect you. Your PRI version should still be 1.40_003. Funny part though is that several people are saying that it didn't make a difference. But it is good to be as up to date as possible, especially when it comes to radio software.

AHAH! Now I understand, thanks for all of the input!
I would recommend against fooling around with the PRI.
The following has happened (after trying 786, 3282 - followed directions properly)
1) It seems that my download/upload have switched. Download speeds avg around 150kbps.....upload ranges from 1.2 - 1.5 mbps
2) Last time I tried updating PRI it said my device could not be properly activated - to try updating profile under settings....or to call Sprint if the problem persists.
Good luck...
im more wondering if anyone has found out if just a data profile wipe updates the pri or if it has to be a fulll wipe.
I think that my Epic has an old PRL, and it wont let me auto update it... so i am wondering whats the latest prl and how can i get it? i seen a manual update? but what version is the newest anyone no?
Mine is 60676 and its letting me update, but it just stays the same.

If he has a corporates discount he may be on 01115. If you decide to manually update a PRL Sprint will roll you back to what they think is best for you. I am going to try freezing the Sprint_updater and see if that makes it stick. 60678 and 01115 have been released to some areas.
Same here I'm on 60676 but my wife's evo is on the 01115

Just to add a little more info to the situation, I have 3 Epics on my service. Two rooted on SRF, and one stock. All three are reading 60676 and either respond with failure or success intermittently when attempting to update, but the number never changes.
Prl 76 is the latest. 77 is a dud. For non-corp. Accounts.

I too am on 60676. Mine will show update completed but never changes. At least that works now. Up untill a few weeks ago that failed every time.
I am on ACS Frozen 1.1.0
Exactly! I'm flabbergasted as well!
So here's my story. My previous EVO HW003 was returned to Best Buy for repairs because my voice speaker had failed. I could make/receive calls but nobody could hear me. I did voice recordings as well and nothing could be heard when playing back the recording. So anyways, I took it in to BB. I went with the Rapid Exchange which guaranteed me a new/re-manufactured phone within 3 days! Well, today I received my phone. Got home from work and began researching how to root the EVO HW004 as I had heard something about the newer bootloader on this particular model, and a little different way of rooting it. So I sat down on my sofa, and for ****s and giggles I attempted to go into recovery to see what would happen. I was expecting the red exclamation mark, instead I was presented with the white HBOOT screen with the following:
Supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.10.0001
MICROP-041F
TOUCH PANEL-AMTELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.11.19
OCT 15 2010, 12:07:00
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB
It's running ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5. I intend to flash AmonRA as that is my personal preference. I'm soooo stoked as I don't have to go through the whole rooting process! Has anyone out there experienced the same from Best Buy? Is there anything I should be concerned about or anything I should know before flashing the latest version of AmonRA. Again, I'm on the following:
HW004
Android version 2.2
Baseband version: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.17-gee557fd
[email protected] #15
Build Number: 3.70.651.1 CL294884 release-keys
Software #: 3.70.651.1
Browser Ver: Webkit 3.1
PRI Version: 1.90_003
PRL Version: 01115
I look forward to your feedback on this! Thanks in advance all! I'm not going to flash anything until I get some solid feedback regarding this odd occurrence.
AHH HA!!!
That is awesome!
It happens from time to time, they cant catch every single one of them.
I know right? I mean, the only explanation I have on this, is that someone returned their EVO, forgot to unroot it, or didn't know how to. It went back into the production line and fixed whatever hardware issues it was having, and they didn't bother to reflash the ROM? hahaha Luck usually doesn't follow me, but wow. I'm like ...wow right now! lol
yeah you are lucky indeed. my friend just got a refurb and it came with 2.3.3 already right out of the box. i saw the sprint employee take it out and turned it on. i looked and it was indeed software 4.22. the fact that yours did not have gingerbread updated is pure luck and couple that with it being rooted......i would buy a lotto ticket lol

That's exactly what I was thinking on my way to Best Buy after work today. I was telling myself, "****, I hope they didn't update the software on it, it's going to suck if they did." The first thing I checked when the Geek Squad tech handed it to me was to check the HW version and SW version. I paid close attention as the phone tech proceeded to activate my EVO. I would have stopped him on the spot if he had attempted to update the SW. haha So, am I safe to flash the latest Amon RA? If so, can someone be kind enough to post a link to the latest version? I've been on HW003 for the past year. I'm almost green again at this point. hehe
Yes, I will be buying a lotto ticket tonight! haha
EDIT: I found this link for Amon RA. I'm going to flash this.

Just talked to best buy yesterday about trading my Evo in when I get the 3d tomorrow and asked if I should unroot it. They said I could just leave it rooted, doesn't matter. Maybe some lucky person will get mine still unrooted

Amon-Ra doesn't exist for the LTE. You'll have to use TeamWin. Works just fine and is a completely touch interface.
Ok guys let me start by saying thank you in advance. I thought I bricked my last incredible when trying to unroot it and return to stock by flashing the wrong p31.... file. I realized I had the newer slcd screen to late and had no picture when trying to turn the phone back on. All I got was the vibrate but no picture. Anyway I tried the recommendation on the forum and tried to flash it blind...... then I dropped in water! As I was doing it.
I have read and read but can't tell if I have amoled or slcd. Looking the screen with magnifier, etc. Is there a sure fire way to tell so I don't screw up an unroot if I try? I read that hardware version 0002 usually meant amoled... need more than usually! Lol.
My stats, stock: of course this is a replacement phone and the under the battery sticker that would have been on stock is not there a refurbished in the Philippine took its spot...

Assuming the screen works, yes, you can tell with a magnifying glass or a SMALL drop of water on the screen. An LCD will show colored squares. The AMOLED the dInc uses will show what's called a RBGB pattern (red, blue, green, blue pattern) when viewing a white screen. Also, the backlight will be seen through a black screen on an LCD, which will be very obvious in a dark room. Again, this is assuming the device works correctly.
Easy way to tell: Hardware version 002=AMOLED, 003=SLCD.

take out your battery. ADR6300VW = amoled = ADR6300VW2

i didn't know this. thank you.
Just a note on most refurbished phones that information is not there, they placed a refurbished in " " sticker for me it says Philippines and the only information on the sticker is MEID number and couple barcode numbers.
However if you have one that hasn't been refurbished Ie: you never took your old one to verizon for a replacement or through an insurance company claim then you should have factory sticker(info) under battery.

This doesn't seem to be true anymore if you flash the new 2.3.4 leak... I've had my inc since the day it came out and it always used to say 002 for the hardware version, but since I've flashed the new 2.3.4 leak, it now says hardware version 003... can anyone else confirm this?? FYI I flashed the one JoelZ posted
I would imagine that's because the GB leak has a sprint build.prop. Unless you changed it yourself or whoever put the rom out changed it, it will show some incorrect information.

I know I have an AMOLED screen.
But I've been seeing hardware = 0003 under MIUI ROMs and Nils' Gingerbread too, so I doubt it has anything to do with Sprint-related origins.
Hardware version 2 is Amoled and version 3 is SLCD

On MIUI, the settings menu doesn't even show hardware version. Only place I've seen it is in one of setCPU's "about" menus, and it was reported 002 which is correct. As for nil's rom, I thought it was based off a sprint rom but that could be incorrect.
You have to look at your stats when your phone is bone stock....
0002 is AMOLED and 0003 is SLCD. However when you flash a new rom, etc whatever that rom was built on is what will show up under hardware version. So if you looked and wrote down your stats when your phone was stock and it is hardware version 0002 its AMOLED and 0003 is SLCD.
I am using Nils gingersense 3.0 ver 1.6 and under the hardware version it says 0003 but I know mine is the older AMOLED 0002, And when I flash my " stock with root" backup my hardware version shows me 0002 like when I first powered it on from verizon.
Screen size is another thing I noticed will be wrong when flashing custom roms etc. Flashed one that had my screen size at 4.3" lol I got an incredible so I know thats false... My advice to anyone would be to record all your information on a lil notepad before changing anything incase you forget.
