PRI Update - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone please breakdown what all of this talk about "PRI" is for us noobs? Everyone seems to be interested in updating their PRI, hence why I ask. I did a quick wiki on PRI but it was much too confusing for me to understand. Many thanks!

From what i got, it should help getting better signal/better 3G speeds. Then again I'm also a noob so i could be wrong.

Well The bounty page explains it all here is a quote
I like others have had reduced data speeds since receiving my phone. I have talked with HTC in length about this and the PRI stores radio frequencies, channels ect. They said while it might not affect everyone it would affect some. This is all based off what towers you are using ect. This was the reason for the upgrade to the 1.40 PRI. I have been unable to come to a solution with the 2nd level tech over at HTC but trying to work my magic.
The PRI stands for Primary Rate Interface, which is used for carrying multiple digital frequencies for voice and data transmissions between a wireless network and the end user

With that in mind, old PRI=pokey internet, new PRI=CheetahNet
Simple isn't it. Just looking at an OP post.
Also I did this PRI update and it worked wonders.

For those of us that rooted our phones with Toast's method or some variant, it downgraded our PRI to 1.34_003. Some people noticed slower 3G speeds and suspected the PRI to be the culprit. Finally as of last night after a long period of not having a method to update, they found it. If you never rooted your phone, this issue doesn't affect you. Your PRI version should still be 1.40_003. Funny part though is that several people are saying that it didn't make a difference. But it is good to be as up to date as possible, especially when it comes to radio software.

AHAH! Now I understand, thanks for all of the input!

I would recommend against fooling around with the PRI.
The following has happened (after trying 786, 3282 - followed directions properly)
1) It seems that my download/upload have switched. Download speeds avg around 150kbps.....upload ranges from 1.2 - 1.5 mbps
2) Last time I tried updating PRI it said my device could not be properly activated - to try updating profile under settings....or to call Sprint if the problem persists.
Good luck...

im more wondering if anyone has found out if just a data profile wipe updates the pri or if it has to be a fulll wipe.

Unrevoked Forever + Netarchy Froyo 2.2 = no 4G?

About a month ago, I wrote up a detailed tutorial for how to use Unrevoked Forever and install Netarchy's HTC OTA Froyo 2.2 build (along with radio updates) on a rooted (with Unrevoked) Evo:
quinndombrowski.com/blog/2010/08/16/from-rooted-evo-4g-to-unrevoked-forever-froyo/
Because my 4G coverage is hit-or-miss, it took me a week or so to notice I no longer was able to connect to 4G. From a comment on the tutorial, it sounds like I'm not the only one having trouble.
I haven't seen anything in the Netarchy Froyo thread about people losing 4G, and I figure I would've seen it if Unrevoked Forever caused it. I'm assuming I did something wrong along the way. For what it's worth, my 4G MAC address looks normal.
If anyone could read through what I did and let me know where I went wrong, I (and at least one person who's done the same) would really, really appreciate it.
Thanks!
I have the exact same rom, and have had it for about a month now, and still have my 4g coverage.

Mine is working fine now. Why don't you try to reflash with the latest WiMax radio. You can find it here on the forum somewhere. I had an issue on my 4G before that while I was looking at my 4G widget, it kept turning off, then turning on....all by itself, every 30 seconds or so...so I reflashed my WiMax and that seemed to solve the problem. Just my two cents.

[Q] Very inconsistent 4G

I have a rooted evo with S-off. I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045 to root my device and did not have any problems. I live in a 4G coverage area but my 4 G in very inconsistent but if I turn on 4 G antenna, update profile it will connect. My RSA keys are intact and my MAC address matches what I pulled up on ADB. I have been reading through post for 2.5 days as not to ask the same question twice. My wimax radio is 24722. Which I see is an older one but from what I gather updating this radio could ruin wimax completely. I hope I have provided enough info. Thanks to all the dev and ROM creaters!!! I was a ROM flashing fool with my HERO and I want my EVO to be the same experience!!!
Thanks in advance

If you flash a new radio yes it could ruin it. Big risk that way, if you update through you phone or ota it won't ruin it
sent from my EVO at the edge of hell
Today I'm in a really good 4g area and others with eve's have 4g but I get it for a few minutes if I update profile.
thanks

There is nothing wrong with the phone my friend i have been investigating this as well i need to do more tests but it seems once you flash a custom ROM your 4G is no longer as strong as it was from the factory. It wont matter if you flash a new radio, PRI or PRL, You can take a 100% virgin Evo and one that has been flashed over with the exact same RADIO PRI and PRL and you will notice a difference in the 4G Signal the stock phone will of course get a stronger signal. i have not tested this on a stock phone with just root access so im not 100% if this problem is Root related or Rom related but there is a difference.

Best Radio for T-Mobile UK

Hello folks,
I know this is one of the most repetitive questions asked in this forum but mine is slightly different. I read many posts which says you have to test all the radios yourself and decide what suits you. I am running AOSP GB ROM.
I tried the latest 27.03 then went to 5.14.05.17, both seemed good and I was having good coverage for mobile/GPS. But the main problem is when I want to use 3G for mobile browsing. I see full coverage, H and everything, but when I try to browse something, nothing happens, its like no data is sent/received...It'll stay like that for few seconds sometimes a minute too and then does send/receive which annoys me a lot and prefer a consistent 2G connection which works 100% even though its slow. It happens quite regularly. This is irrespective of which ROM I use so it may be to do with -
a. Radio
b. Phone
c. T-Mobile UK
Btw, I am on "unlimited" data plan.
So just want to know if there are any T-Mobile UK users who don't have this problem and would wish to know which radio suits best for them and then I may try that n see if that helps or infact anything to boost 3G data transfers ?
Help much appreciated.
Cheers,
RD
..... I will say what you said and a lot of people said. Try each radio to see which suits you the best.
If your still having issues (which you are) then give T-Mobile a call. They do diagnostic checks and everything so they will be able to help you out more than what we can.
i find 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 seems to hold a constant H
Hey Thank you both for replying. John, I flashed the radio you said above and it is behaving good so far. Will test this throughout the day but initial impressions are definitely better.
i will definitely second that. i have been using 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 for a long time on my Desire (TMobile) and its the best i have tried.
Is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 'compatible' with 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROMs?
I am so glad you have created this thread as I havn't got round to it. This problem is a constant pain in the ass, and is driving me nuts.
You have mentioned, if it was to do with 'T-Mobile UK' themselves as I believed it was. I've contacted numerous times regarding this matter but they hadn't a clue what I was on about and I presumed it was to do with the recent merge up with 'Orange UK' to create Everything Everywhere that I signed upto, so I had requested to opt out but they're demanding me to tell them what the reason and issue was, so I did, but they did not respect my decision of wanting to opt out, so I didn't take it any further. If you are signed to Everything Everywhere, then we may have something there...
So, I left that to be... until I investigated the other possibilities... I tried flashing other ROM'S but the problem kept persisting.
However, I have never discovered it could be to do with the 'Radio' I'm using, hopefully it is as it will be less of a hassle for myself and others alike.
I await a solution...;(
Anybody can help assist me? Thanks

no radio is going to fix the issue, i've had that problem since i had the htc hero, tried all the radios, they all the same , can;t really see the difference .the same thing with the desire. what made it worse since the merged with orange.
the only good thing about orange , i get good reception indoors, good for making or receiving calls, no internet .
indoors wifi . oudoors hsdpa(t-mobile) when you a good signal is good . i wouldn't bother flashing more radios, it's t-mobile's **** coverage.
hope this helps
Thanks for your reply.
My first instincts was that is was to do with the Orange merger. If there is a slight improvement by flashing a different radio I would be grateful, if however as you say it makes no difference I'd leave the radio as it is.
It would be great if others can confirm/post a solution.
Thank you.

Weak signal in my house and other areas?

I've been having a lot of 3G connectivity issues in my house, and a lot of the times outdoors. I've tried CM7 and CM9 all with different kernels. I'm using the 2.15.10.12.20. I've also tried *228
Should I try a different radio? I've tried even using a network refresh to no avail. What should I try?

Try different radios, you can get them here http://dinc.does-it.net/radios. The evo radios on that page also work for the inc, as evos and incs are so alike.

No it does not make it the best. When it comes to radios its a what works best for me may not work best for you type deal. Many people report that they get the best signal on older radios. For me the newest radio is the best signal i have ever got, while others say it made there signal worse.
So I've tried a number of radios, with little improvement, if any at all. I've tried *228 and even tried a signal refresher. However, I still have poor signal, while my friends with other phones do not.
Any advice?

It may just be that your friends have newer radio hardware as their phones are newer. If new radio software or *228 dosent help, there isnt really anything else you can do .
Really? Are you sure it might not be a defect? I mean it is a refurb I got after my first one broke. Or is it one of those things where it either works or doesn't work?

12.20 was the worst radio I ever used, I can't believe that verizon pushed that to all dinc users last month who were on stock. I've been using the EVO 12.19 radio and it seems to be the best for my phone but like everyone says it varies. I would keep trying some of the other radios until you find something a little better. I recommend trying 07.28 and 07.07, Particularly 07.07 if your phone had better reception about a month ago. If you got the replacement more recently than that then i guess it would be hard to tell but you can still try it. 07.28 is a froyo radio but I had it for a very long time before i realized that when I downgraded to root I also had downgraded my radio and it worked just fine. Anyway, best of luck to you but if none of these helps, more than likely, like cmlusco said, it might be time for a new phone. You can buy used phones for fairly cheap online so you won't have to wait until your contract is up.

I get an upgrade the end of August! Just the wait will kill me
Hey guys just a heads up. Verizon sent me another Incredible and it fixed all my issues. I now dropped from -105 to -85. Thanks again!

PRL Updated.

My PRL updated to 61009 and I'm getting horrible to none connections with cell towers. Was wondering if anyone had any PRLs between 61000-61008? or even something around the 60700-60999 area would be nice to try!
If so, I would be greatly appreciative if you guys could share it with me.

I love Google..
Every Sprint PRL
And it seems as if that OP doesn't include the 61xxx's.. And it was just updated 8 days ago.. Maybe you have a new one..
:edit: I take that back.. Some of those not listed are in the Non-LTE Zip..

Since you guys are on the discussion of PRLs... what would the best PRL be for the Detroit area on the E4GT considering it's not an LTE device (not that detroit even has 4G coverage anyway... >.>')?

Honestly, all I can suggest is read all the prl discussions you can to include other Sprint devices. Just don't expect a magical speed daemon to arrive in your phone. It's about obtaining signal where you may not or other reasons that I'm sure you'll find.
How can you tell which prl is right for you?
Is it just trial and error?

Easiest way for me to answer is go read the op of the link I posted. I think you may be confused on why someone would want to change prl's..
:edit: I see that you're on boost. I don't think this will help you. Mvno's like yours may not benefit from this. May want to research this more before changing.
I'm researching the PRL, but currently mine says default. I'm looking in ==> System / About Device / Status. I'm wondering is that normal. I'm reading ppl have a # on their phone, but mine just says default.
My next post will have screen shots of my phone configuration.
Any help / comments / suggestions are highly encouraged.

Well, I have to confess, this is weird. I looked at my phone yesterday, and my PRL was listed as default. NOW, it’s listed at 21095.
Note, I’m still researching about PRLs.
