Hello folks,
I know this is one of the most repetitive questions asked in this forum but mine is slightly different. I read many posts which says you have to test all the radios yourself and decide what suits you. I am running AOSP GB ROM.
I tried the latest 27.03 then went to 5.14.05.17, both seemed good and I was having good coverage for mobile/GPS. But the main problem is when I want to use 3G for mobile browsing. I see full coverage, H and everything, but when I try to browse something, nothing happens, its like no data is sent/received...It'll stay like that for few seconds sometimes a minute too and then does send/receive which annoys me a lot and prefer a consistent 2G connection which works 100% even though its slow. It happens quite regularly. This is irrespective of which ROM I use so it may be to do with -
a. Radio
b. Phone
c. T-Mobile UK
Btw, I am on "unlimited" data plan.
So just want to know if there are any T-Mobile UK users who don't have this problem and would wish to know which radio suits best for them and then I may try that n see if that helps or infact anything to boost 3G data transfers ?
Help much appreciated.
Cheers,
RD
..... I will say what you said and a lot of people said. Try each radio to see which suits you the best.
If your still having issues (which you are) then give T-Mobile a call. They do diagnostic checks and everything so they will be able to help you out more than what we can.
i find 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 seems to hold a constant H
Hey Thank you both for replying. John, I flashed the radio you said above and it is behaving good so far. Will test this throughout the day but initial impressions are definitely better.
i will definitely second that. i have been using 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 for a long time on my Desire (TMobile) and its the best i have tried.
Is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 'compatible' with 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROMs?
I am so glad you have created this thread as I havn't got round to it. This problem is a constant pain in the ass, and is driving me nuts.
You have mentioned, if it was to do with 'T-Mobile UK' themselves as I believed it was. I've contacted numerous times regarding this matter but they hadn't a clue what I was on about and I presumed it was to do with the recent merge up with 'Orange UK' to create Everything Everywhere that I signed upto, so I had requested to opt out but they're demanding me to tell them what the reason and issue was, so I did, but they did not respect my decision of wanting to opt out, so I didn't take it any further. If you are signed to Everything Everywhere, then we may have something there...
So, I left that to be... until I investigated the other possibilities... I tried flashing other ROM'S but the problem kept persisting.
However, I have never discovered it could be to do with the 'Radio' I'm using, hopefully it is as it will be less of a hassle for myself and others alike.
I await a solution...;(
Anybody can help assist me? Thanks

no radio is going to fix the issue, i've had that problem since i had the htc hero, tried all the radios, they all the same , can;t really see the difference .the same thing with the desire. what made it worse since the merged with orange.
the only good thing about orange , i get good reception indoors, good for making or receiving calls, no internet .
indoors wifi . oudoors hsdpa(t-mobile) when you a good signal is good . i wouldn't bother flashing more radios, it's t-mobile's **** coverage.
hope this helps
Thanks for your reply.
My first instincts was that is was to do with the Orange merger. If there is a slight improvement by flashing a different radio I would be grateful, if however as you say it makes no difference I'd leave the radio as it is.
It would be great if others can confirm/post a solution.
Thank you.

I don't know what's going on, but lately my Universal has been...not necessarily 'dropping calls' but it seems like during any call the phone stops working.
By this I mean (it seems like) the mic goes out, and the ear piece goes out, but I can see that the call is still connected. And it randomly comes back in AND back out as it pleases. I doubt it is a hardware problem, because it happens while I am sitting still, doesn't resolve itself when I shake the phone(lol), and even happens when I'm using my bluetooth headset.
It just goes out. And I end up having to continuously call the person back, because they hang up, thinking my phone dropped the call, or hung up.
I do have reason to believe it may have to do with Cingular, because I haven't been getting the same amount of bars I usually get in this area (2 out of the ususal full 5), and a lot of my text messages haven't been able to be sent lately, but I'm not completely sure it's a carrier issue.
I am getting extremely frustrated and tempted to go back to my Sony Ericsson, just to refrain from stomping the hell out of my XDA.
Can someone please help me? Thanks a lot.
Oh and I have JWrightmcps' 2.01.06 Crossbow ROM and Radio 1.14.10, have had both for a few weeks now
Have you tried his Version 2.01.08 WWE ROM?
And have you tried other versions of radio?
Might be worth trying 1.13, dunno how it will perform in US, but it seems to be more stable for some. If you flash it alone (if you're happy with your current OS), it seems to sort out hanging issues previously faced with push mail etc....
Have a look at recent posts in Jwrights thread, have been some new developments regarding radio.
Best of luck
frustrating eh?
Frustrating eh, you want the newest software on your phone, with the latest (unreleased) gadgets and such, and all the sudden... BUGS!!!! don't get TOO frustrated man, with unreleased software comes bugs...
And like my mom always says: if you can't stand the heat....

Yea I think I'll go back to 1.13, I see the posts you're talking about, and I'm not using push mail at this time.
Also, I'm satisfied fully with this ROM, so I don't think I'll update to the newer one anytime soon.

Wish you luck... speaking for myself, 1.13 is the most stable AND I get reception where I never did before (like my flat). Very stable for me on O2 in UK, hope it performs as well for you

maybe you could throw it to me..

Universal radio
Could anyone send me the link to "downgrade" to radio 1.09? I'm having the same problems. Also, if you have Wisbar, try removing it. It works!
FTP is still up, instructions on the WIKI.
I wud recommend 1.08 for the best battery life..
Having nearly the same problem I noticed if I squeeze the phone a little the voice comes back, then goes off again when I loosen the grip. But what I say to the phone the person can hear, only I can't hear the other end.
If I turn speaker on, it also helps. It refers to electrical contact (hardware) failure at the ear piece so I take it back to the shop, as I have 2 years warranty for it.
I have my universal since Jan 2006 and I have this problem 3-4 weeks ago. My Radio ROM is 1.13, but I tried 1.09 with the same result.

Mine has nothing to do with that. I'll be sitting still, and it messes up, even with the bluetooth.
And I'm getting more annoyed because it's messing up with the .09 radio too!!! WTH???
I'm gonna try .13 now, to see if i get any difference...anyone have any other ideas? I'm seriously about to go back to my SE W810...
EDIT: I've noticed that it happens A LOT more often when I have two bars of reception or less...is there anything I can do about that?

I have had a lot of Radio related issues, not just with calls but with data connections showing as connected but not able to connect to anything, failing to pick up email etc ....
I have downgraded to the O2 last release of software, AKU2 (not sure on full detail) so that I can do some comparison testing. It has Radio 1.09 so I will be testing this week to establish whether any version of software will perform or whether the Uni is a bit flaky altogether.

After a lot of experiments I have settled down to 1.13 (not upgraded my signature !). From all posts it is quite clear the best radio version depends on your location and servive providers. How useful it will be if someone comes with a ROM with switchable Radio !!! just in my wishlist.
flipping though the ultimate radio list, most replies were out of the US and those that were, only 1 was with AT&T and that 1 user has a custom ROM.
how many AT&T users do we have here?? don't tell me 2. I am interested in the 25.23 since it's fast but eats up battery life which i can live with since a charger is always nearby for me.
any other radios AT&T users here are running off of? thanks!
I am on AT&T in New Orleans, LA. I am using 1.09.25.23 and have been satisfied with it. It does use a bit more battery than the stock radio I was on, but overall I have been satisfied. I am able to get signal in almost every place, which is saying a lot since I am a med student, and most phones drop signal as you walk in the hospital.

wow, that's great to hear. i'm trying to flash it but i'm stuck at 0% with the 262 error.
gonna investigate and get this radio rom working; i really need something that has better/faster gps reception as well as getting a signal though what i have now, 25.08 isn't *that* bad when it comes to calls/data.
I have AT&T in FL and I've been using Radio 1.15.25.14 with the same Rilphone...battery life is great, I typically get 36-48 hours with pretty heavy use (calls, text, email, facebook, internet, playing...) I've had no problems with call quality or anything. Don't know if there's a better radio, but this one has been working great for me. Not sure about the speed of the GPS, although with "my location" in the weather tab, it tends to find me quickly...hope that helps.
Interesting Andrew I might have to give that a try. I was pretty happy with my radio, but it has been draing pretty quick with yoz's new rom. How are you liking Benko's rom? I had it, but not the 5.0, previous versions were a little buggy for me.
As far as the gps for my rom, gps takes a while the first time I boot it up after a rom instal, but after than, I am able to get a lock in under 30 secs usually. I do use quick gps, so not sure if that makes a difference.
sumtin wong.... i can't flash anything. i can't even put in a hard-spl (any version) on my phone to change the radio.

I'm not too far from you, up in Fruitland Park, just north of Leesburg...
As far as changing the radio, there's some good stickies on how to do that, as well as upgrading ROM, and I'm not qualified enough to try to explain it...
Recommendations on ROMs: from what I've found, ALL of them have some things you'll like, and some things that you won't...it's a matter of trying out a bunch til you find the one that suits you. I've been switching on a regular basis just to find the nonexistant perfect ROM. My thoughts: Benko's are real nice, stable, and functional. I'm downloading 5.8 now, so we'll see. Couldn't use 5.7 b/c of email issues. NRG's are the best looking, but RAM issues are a consistant problem. SUN Y RC1 is my current, but I've been having some weird issues, and I like WM 6.5 or 6.5.1 better than 6.1...
Again, just my two cents, try some out and see what you like...but be careful, it's addicting

One of the links for the 1.15 radio is in post 773...FYI, I don't mind sharing the info, but there are some people on here that will yell at you for not searching...just type in diamond radio 1.15 in the search to find more info. (I actually had to do that to re-find the radio).
@apple, I have hardspl 1.40 as well, that's all you need, just make sure you've read all the flashing info ahead of time so you don't brick you're phone.

Hi Guys,
I'm in SF Bay Area using AT&T, have been using 1.00.25.16 on my DIAM100 (Diamond from UK). One thing I'm frustrated with newer radios (those ones other than 1.00.25.*) is I couldn't get 850MHz band to work on my Diamond. With my current radio, signal quality is fair and battery lasts only about a day.
Can anyone please try to identify if your are on the AT&T 850MHz band.
What I need to know is:
1. Your Diamond Version: DIAM??? or just US Diamond, or EU Diamond
2. Your Radio Version:
2. the "Band" from the HTC Field Test: can be PCS or 850
To invoke the HTC Field Test, just dial
*#*#364#*#*
Some chefs removed this utility from their ROM, but you can always get it from the following thread.

Andrew my man, I'm sorry bro, I search and search, can't find it. Page 773? which listing is that page on? I'm confused man, help a brother out?? lolz....me and soo many others have asked this question, If you get yelled at? tell them to direct at me, I'll take the heat for it,lolz....later amigo.
im using 1.00.08.25 in Indiana, i tried the newest 1.17 but it didn't work out to well around here.
battery life is great, usually 2-3 days with normal use (text/call and internet browsing occasionally) gps speed is good, kinda has a tendency to lag about half a block behind my actual position, but i think most of them are like that.
I got a 3 PAYG sim last month for the all you can eat data plan. It was working perfectly for 3 weeks, full signal. I used CM7 RC1 for a while however after a smooth start the number of forced closes began driving me mad.
My 3 signal indoors just disappeared all together one day this week. I decided to change ROM and did a full clean install of JokerDroid 4.2. (not because I thought CM7 was causing any signal issues, just the force closes and thought I'd try something new)
I have Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband version 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10
Kernel Version 2.6.32.39-nFinity
Build number 2.37.415.1
My problem is my signal and I don't know whether it's 3 or the phone. Indoors I have nothing, occasionally 1 bar at best. Outside, it works fine. My phone randomly decides I am roaming and gives me a full signal with a little R sign indoors.
I have also noticed that where previously in CM7 it said I was connected to 3, in JokerDroid 4.2 it says 3G-3.
My Girlfriend also got a 3 sim card at the same time as me and she has a nokia 6303c, She has experienced no problems and continues to have full signal everywhere. I switched sims between phones, mine works perfectly in her phone and hers doesn't work in mine.
Can anyone suggest what is happening here? Is my phone broken? is it a 3 problem? is there a simple fix?
I have searched a forum for 3 and there seems to be a lot of compaints about 3 switching off 2g coverage, could this be the problem? The threads where a few months ago and I don't know if this explains the difference between the wildfire and the nokia either.
Any help much obliged.

Done that.
I searched the forum and someone had suggested that but nothing changed.
I am thinking of wiping everything again in recovery, flashing the radio and then flashing the rom.
I just wish I knew for sure it was the phone and not 3. I will try a different network provider asap.

I've been reading this forum for the past two days trying to see if there is a similar thread with this issue. Please point me in the right direction if there is a similar thread resolving this issue (this forum is colossal!).
I recently bought a UK version GSM Galaxy Nexus running Modaco 4.0.2 Ir8. I'm using it on T-Mobile's network (The GN is replacing my HTC Sensation).
The gentleman that sold it to me had already unlocked, rooted, and flashed it with Modaco. It works blazing fast. The only thing is that when ever I make a phone call it literally drops in less than 5 minutes. The signal seems to be switching like crazy from 3G to HSPA+ as well.
I've called TMO and they have no clue what the issue is (4 different reps told me 4 different things from needing to factory reset to the towers being down etc.).
Again the phone works great besides the fact that I can't make a phone call for more than a couple of minutes before it drops.
Has anyone seen this with their GN? Is it the phone? The Mod? Are T-Mobile's towers not able to pick up this phone's radios because it's from the UK?
How can I go about fixing this (Factory reset? etc.)? I'm literally about to factory reset this thing this morning when I get home from work.
I don't really have too much experience as far as rooting goes but willing to learn and get this issue resolved.
What radio version are you using?
I'm on T-Mobile and xxkk6 works well for me.
If you don't know what you have, I suggest u go to the dev section and start reading for a while
xxkk6 at the least should be on there. i think there is xxkl7 possibly. the xxkk6 is the stock radio, but if there is a kk7 or kl7 might want to try that as it would be a later version.
How can I tell which radio version I'm on and does it give me the option to switch it?

I'm on xxk1. How do I switch to kk6?
Thanks for sending me that link. Which baseband set up would be good for the US (NYC specifically). They all look like they are designed for European areas.
And once I put in my Sim card, why didn't the phone just figure out with Radioband to attach itself to?

Settings, about phone.
I had similar problems until I switched to KK6.
This thread has all the different basebands:

Basebands beginning with UG are for north America. I think there are a couple of threads in the dev section about UG basebands, it might be worth have a look at those.

Thanks for the link. After reading through a couple of pages I'm starting to realize that I have no idea what the hell is going on with switching radio bands. Even worse, I have not read about any instances where one or the other will work very well in NYC (my area).
Is there a grid which shows which radio band is for which area? Anyone know of anywhere that shows the step by way to do this?

I appreciate that. Will be looking into it later this morning when I get off work.
For anyone who had to do this process: Is this a normal thing when rooting and flashing, to have to find a better baseband etc.? Is it because my phone is a UK version that TMO is having an issue dropping my calls?
And lastly, anyone know what the best baseband/radio is suitable for NYC? And why doesn't the phone just figure out which is the best baseband?

the baseband should work. it's gsm, the world standard. but i'm guessing since i don't know exactly what is tweaked, but that the specific baseband for your region will bias your phone for the known networks. ugkk7 works great for me. atnt. i think there is a ugkl6 or 7. sometimes you have to test them. some will work better for others. some will work great and not eat battery. if it eats battery, try another one. i think samsung is decent about releasing different radios for different regions. it can be confusing. now when it's comes to updating their roms, that is a different story.
Ok,
The baseband def has to be affecting my battery. I'm getting not even 10 hours on a full charge from moderate use.
I don't really know exactly what the first owner did to it, only what he told me.
My plan is to bring it back to factory settings (found an article about how to restore the GSM version, but have yet to find any youtube videos abou it....I only see LTE videos on rooting and unrooting, and I'm not sure if it's the same process so I'm not touching those).
If that doesn't help it then I'll go about flashing and changing the baseband.
Again this whole baseband business is really new to me. The input you guys have been giving so far is much appreciated.

Update:
Ended up coming home early from work and staying up all morning trying to figure this out. I decided on using this link first: (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/restore-galaxy-nexus-to-stock-how-to/)
to re-lock. That took about 4 hours of troubleshooting and getting to know the lingo and terminology. Then from a combination of other youtube videos I spent another 4 hours trying to figure out how to lock the bootloader. Believe it or not the Xda link about this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310) saved me from losing my mind. I literally didn't go to sleep until I made sure I brought the phone back to factory settings.
After I finally got the phone back to factory settings (believe me, it wasn't fun figuring this out especially when I've never rooted before) I noticed the wifi wasn't working, or had a very weak signal. Content with the phone at least being back on factory settings and locked, I go to sleep and wake up today seeing the same issue with the wifi (mean while, I now have good signal/service...didn't even have to mess with the baseband radio config).
I restart the router in our house and power down the phone and restart. Problem fixed.
Not really sure why or how, but bringing the phone back to factory settings seems to make it work just as fast as it worked when Modaco Ir8 4.0.2 was on it. Except now I have amazing Service signal.
I can honestly state that rooting really isn't for me especially with the notion that with every new mod that comes out you have to be flashing on a constant basis. Even though I almost lost my mind trying to figure this out, I would still rather have this approach vs Apple's walled garden approach though. Any day.
One of the reasons I like the Nexus line of phones is that it's pretty much the only Android phone that gets all the updates first and on a constant basis. Which makes it such an awesome phone in that it's also the phone that Google allows any and all capabilities to be customized. I have true respect for all the devs out there who attack this stuff daily.
Just be sure to get enough exercise in and healthy meals along with rest lol.

some people actually recommend factory resetting your device from the get go. i would, but i always just run with the hardware just to make sure the hardware and stress i throw at it will handle all the roms and stuff. and to exchange my phone if finding there is a problem.
Good to hear that you got it sorted out in the end

Rooting/Flashing is great IMO for people who will never have the luxury of getting updates like Nexus phones get. Take control in your own hands on when you decide you want to update(s) etc.
I'm sure any Devs out there (like on this forum) also love tinkering. To each his own.

Indeed. I def learned a lesson: Never let anyone ever root your phone for you. The guy who rooted it for me was nice enough to say I could email him for questions but the more I kept emailing him the more I could tell he was probably getting frustrated at all my worrisome questions ("I'm dropping calls", "Is it because of the rooting?", "My wifi isn't working", "is it because of the rooting?..." etc.).
Just glad to know there are tons of available options for one to seek out help when issues like this arise.

Hi guys
Recently decided to give my phone and new lease of life and update it from CM 7.2. I went with the ViperDHD rom and am very impressed with it. The only issue I had was that the GPS wasnt working so I went ahead and flashed a new radio, I have had to do this before as I had the same issue with CM 7.2.
I took the latest radio Radio 12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M from HERE and had mixed results. I started a logger and average around -85dBm to -95dBm which I was not impressed with considering it appeared to be much better on the previous one. Here is where the fun part starts, I didnt make a note of what radio I was on before updating, a big fail on my part, so I cannot just revert back!
I went ahead and flashed 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19 from HERE with the thought in my mind that the latest version must surely be the best.....and the signal is pretty similar (poor).
I know flashing radio is more dangerous than a ROM so ideally id prefer not to keep flashing a new one each day to test.
Im currently on the giffgaff network which is a subsidiary of 02 (it uses hardware they provide) so if the 02 signal is good my giffgaff should be good (in theory anyway). Im based in the heart of Belfast (Northern Ireland) and the coverage checker online reports;
"Good indoors and outdoors. Good for mobile broadband"
coupled with the fact that I was impressed with it when I first flashed the rom im pretty certain its something I broke with the change of radio
I also understand that because I am on an ICS rom I dont need to flash RIL?
Does anyone have any feedback on what radio they recommend for the O2 network in the UK, at my wits end at a problem I caused lol!
Thanks
Rob

Even though I'm in the US and my results probably won't help you in any shape or form. Your right about what you said about rils and ICS/jb... On another note, that first radio might of been 15.56.60 blank blank blank (can't remember the last section). Just look into the inspire radio thread and see which radio works for you....no need to press the thank button if any of my nonsense helped you

Hi Rob
I'm new here too (& I'm in BELFAST too!)
I'm not sure of how we're meant to communicate here but I think our problems overlap quite a bit.
I've included a link to my recent post below.

Please have a look.
Have you made any progress?

Hi there
Small world isnt it!
I actually didnt have any joy, well the joy was signal sometimes and other times nothing in the same location. In the end I rolled back to a Gingerbread rom (Android Revolution) and flashed the radio they recommend and have had much better results.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
Well, when I say better, the best I can expect given we are in Belfast (no-one cares about N.Ireland in general lol). Cant comment on Orange coverage though....
Im of the same nature you are, dont need bells and whistles, just want it to work and so far im getting that with the Rom above (and recommended radio...12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M)
Good luck!
Rob
I used to be a fellow giffgaff, it didn't matter what i did to the radio via flashing this that and the other i still had poor signal if i was lucky. In the end i ditched Giffgaff and went to orange and i haven't had a signal issue at all.
Giffgaff made itself a success but forgot about the huge amount of traffic on the network. A few of my mates have done the same and ditched Giffgaff.

Are you in a populated area in Wales? Although im in the capital city (Belfast) we can always expect much less than other capitals, we are nothing (even with capital status) compared to citys on the main land.
Rural (~10 miles from a town) over here you can forget consistent signal! Interesting about the bandwidth, never had crossed my mind, doubt the network would release any figures for us though!

Nope i am in a place not far from Todmorden which was the first place to get ADSL enabled and now last to even get fiber broadband.
Where i live i only has a 2G signal for most networks only EE networks supplies a 3G signal so i understand where your coming from mate.
Its the same in most rual area. Also i know you asked about Wales, I only have the welsh flag as i am welsh born.
