Weak signal in my house and other areas? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been having a lot of 3G connectivity issues in my house, and a lot of the times outdoors. I've tried CM7 and CM9 all with different kernels. I'm using the 2.15.10.12.20. I've also tried *228
Should I try a different radio? I've tried even using a network refresh to no avail. What should I try?

Try different radios, you can get them here http://dinc.does-it.net/radios. The evo radios on that page also work for the inc, as evos and incs are so alike.

No it does not make it the best. When it comes to radios its a what works best for me may not work best for you type deal. Many people report that they get the best signal on older radios. For me the newest radio is the best signal i have ever got, while others say it made there signal worse.

So I've tried a number of radios, with little improvement, if any at all. I've tried *228 and even tried a signal refresher. However, I still have poor signal, while my friends with other phones do not.
Any advice?

It may just be that your friends have newer radio hardware as their phones are newer. If new radio software or *228 dosent help, there isnt really anything else you can do .

Really? Are you sure it might not be a defect? I mean it is a refurb I got after my first one broke. Or is it one of those things where it either works or doesn't work?

12.20 was the worst radio I ever used, I can't believe that verizon pushed that to all dinc users last month who were on stock. I've been using the EVO 12.19 radio and it seems to be the best for my phone but like everyone says it varies. I would keep trying some of the other radios until you find something a little better. I recommend trying 07.28 and 07.07, Particularly 07.07 if your phone had better reception about a month ago. If you got the replacement more recently than that then i guess it would be hard to tell but you can still try it. 07.28 is a froyo radio but I had it for a very long time before i realized that when I downgraded to root I also had downgraded my radio and it worked just fine. Anyway, best of luck to you but if none of these helps, more than likely, like cmlusco said, it might be time for a new phone. You can buy used phones for fairly cheap online so you won't have to wait until your contract is up.

Hey guys just a heads up. Verizon sent me another Incredible and it fixed all my issues. I now dropped from -105 to -85. Thanks again!

Noobs,and Everyone Alike(Update Your Radio)

I know a lot of you out there are obviously updating to newer, cooked ROMs. This by far is the best bet when spending the kind of money we are on these phones. You get much more out of your new phone than it is capable of doing from the factory or retail store.
I want to instill in everyone's mind how truly important it is to check out the new radios available for the phone. It takes literally 5 minutes or less start to finish to flash a new radio. You won't lose your newly flashed ROM or any settings that I have found. So, please take notice to my advice. Below is the link for all the newly updated radios for our device. Check out a few of them and make some calls, use your gps. I believe you will be much happier with a new radio, because frankly the stock radios are garbage.
My call signal strength is maxed out in my home whereas it only had 2-3 bars before. My gps doesn't lag behind me anymore, and My Location works perfectly since flashing a new radio. So, try one out. It definitely can't hurt. Below is the link to the thread with all of the newer radios. ENJOY!!!

He mentioned in another thread that the radio he flashed to is the one ending in .57, and that's the one I'd suggest you start with. I happen to have it already because it's the one that comes with the stock T-mo 6.5 ROM...but if you've running any ROM's with a different radio, you'll want to give this one a shot. A few other T-mo users have reported good results with the .77 radio, but I'd still start with the .57 if you haven't already.
thanks outerdepth...
I have always figured I should update my radio, but never bothered/got around to it. Your post re-motivated me, so I updated from .25 to .77 and...
100% improvement!!
My gps accuracy used to be off by about a city block, which I attributed to the fact that 'oh well its a cel phone, what can I expect', now is accurate within a meter or two.
My data speeds are much improved, and I dunno if its my imagination or not, but calls even seem clearer and have a better sound quality to them.
Dont know about battery drain yet, but its not really important to me cause I'm a truck driver, so I can leave my phone plugged in most of the time in the truck
Thanks!!
So this might be a dumb question but are these radio updates official? They overwrite ROM so I'm kinda always wary to ever try this. I have the official HTC ROM from their website and I assume you can flash it back but I'm not sure.
The ROM will stay, all your contacts/text/etc will stay, and you SHOULD NOT have to worry about losing anything. You can use a program like SPB Back Up or Sprite back up if you are worried though.

The thread about TP2 Radios tells you how to choose the ones that will work for you, just look for the ones that say AT&T and start there.

The radio-roms are "official". However, in order to flash one you have to first do the HardSPL, which isn't official....and may not be completely reversible, depending on what carrier-branded (if any) phone you have.
The only reason this SPL issue may matter is if you have to return for warranty return. If they swap the phone for you in a store then surely nobody in a store will know the difference...but if you have to send it to HTC then non-stock tampering may be evident.
That being said, it hasn't stopped me from taking full benefit of what this site has to offer and make full use of what is possible with my TP2.
Good advice for everyone.
Some of the newer cooked roms require a particular radio...or at least will work best with a particular radio. Before flashing any new rom, read to see if the chef suggests a certain one.

No, the security lock only prevents you from switching carriers. Shouldn't affect the radio.
And in any case the phone doesn't have to be unlocked to install a custom ROM, it has to have a different hard SPL.

Best Radio for T-Mobile UK

Hello folks,
I know this is one of the most repetitive questions asked in this forum but mine is slightly different. I read many posts which says you have to test all the radios yourself and decide what suits you. I am running AOSP GB ROM.
I tried the latest 27.03 then went to 5.14.05.17, both seemed good and I was having good coverage for mobile/GPS. But the main problem is when I want to use 3G for mobile browsing. I see full coverage, H and everything, but when I try to browse something, nothing happens, its like no data is sent/received...It'll stay like that for few seconds sometimes a minute too and then does send/receive which annoys me a lot and prefer a consistent 2G connection which works 100% even though its slow. It happens quite regularly. This is irrespective of which ROM I use so it may be to do with -
a. Radio
b. Phone
c. T-Mobile UK
Btw, I am on "unlimited" data plan.
So just want to know if there are any T-Mobile UK users who don't have this problem and would wish to know which radio suits best for them and then I may try that n see if that helps or infact anything to boost 3G data transfers ?
Help much appreciated.
Cheers,
RD
..... I will say what you said and a lot of people said. Try each radio to see which suits you the best.
If your still having issues (which you are) then give T-Mobile a call. They do diagnostic checks and everything so they will be able to help you out more than what we can.
i find 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 seems to hold a constant H
Hey Thank you both for replying. John, I flashed the radio you said above and it is behaving good so far. Will test this throughout the day but initial impressions are definitely better.
i will definitely second that. i have been using 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 for a long time on my Desire (TMobile) and its the best i have tried.
Is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 'compatible' with 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROMs?
I am so glad you have created this thread as I havn't got round to it. This problem is a constant pain in the ass, and is driving me nuts.
You have mentioned, if it was to do with 'T-Mobile UK' themselves as I believed it was. I've contacted numerous times regarding this matter but they hadn't a clue what I was on about and I presumed it was to do with the recent merge up with 'Orange UK' to create Everything Everywhere that I signed upto, so I had requested to opt out but they're demanding me to tell them what the reason and issue was, so I did, but they did not respect my decision of wanting to opt out, so I didn't take it any further. If you are signed to Everything Everywhere, then we may have something there...
So, I left that to be... until I investigated the other possibilities... I tried flashing other ROM'S but the problem kept persisting.
However, I have never discovered it could be to do with the 'Radio' I'm using, hopefully it is as it will be less of a hassle for myself and others alike.
I await a solution...;(
Anybody can help assist me? Thanks

no radio is going to fix the issue, i've had that problem since i had the htc hero, tried all the radios, they all the same , can;t really see the difference .the same thing with the desire. what made it worse since the merged with orange.
the only good thing about orange , i get good reception indoors, good for making or receiving calls, no internet .
indoors wifi . oudoors hsdpa(t-mobile) when you a good signal is good . i wouldn't bother flashing more radios, it's t-mobile's **** coverage.
hope this helps
Thanks for your reply.
My first instincts was that is was to do with the Orange merger. If there is a slight improvement by flashing a different radio I would be grateful, if however as you say it makes no difference I'd leave the radio as it is.
It would be great if others can confirm/post a solution.
Thank you.

Help me, Signal Problems - 3 UK

I got a 3 PAYG sim last month for the all you can eat data plan. It was working perfectly for 3 weeks, full signal. I used CM7 RC1 for a while however after a smooth start the number of forced closes began driving me mad.
My 3 signal indoors just disappeared all together one day this week. I decided to change ROM and did a full clean install of JokerDroid 4.2. (not because I thought CM7 was causing any signal issues, just the force closes and thought I'd try something new)
I have Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband version 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10
Kernel Version 2.6.32.39-nFinity
Build number 2.37.415.1
My problem is my signal and I don't know whether it's 3 or the phone. Indoors I have nothing, occasionally 1 bar at best. Outside, it works fine. My phone randomly decides I am roaming and gives me a full signal with a little R sign indoors.
I have also noticed that where previously in CM7 it said I was connected to 3, in JokerDroid 4.2 it says 3G-3.
My Girlfriend also got a 3 sim card at the same time as me and she has a nokia 6303c, She has experienced no problems and continues to have full signal everywhere. I switched sims between phones, mine works perfectly in her phone and hers doesn't work in mine.
Can anyone suggest what is happening here? Is my phone broken? is it a 3 problem? is there a simple fix?
I have searched a forum for 3 and there seems to be a lot of compaints about 3 switching off 2g coverage, could this be the problem? The threads where a few months ago and I don't know if this explains the difference between the wildfire and the nokia either.
Any help much obliged.

Done that.
I searched the forum and someone had suggested that but nothing changed.
I am thinking of wiping everything again in recovery, flashing the radio and then flashing the rom.
I just wish I knew for sure it was the phone and not 3. I will try a different network provider asap.

I've just absolutely had it with the LTE nexus's radio.

I'm so completely frustrated by this phone.
I live in Houston, we've had excellent LTE for a while now. I had a thunderbolt for a long time that performed flawlessly on LTE.
Since day one, across multiple roms, multiple radios, and more wipes than I can count, this phone has been absolutely pathetic with regards to radio performance.
I'm CONSTANTLY losing 4G, or having 4G and being stuck with gray (non google connected) bars. I'm always singing out of Gtalk, not having texts go through.
The phone burns a hole in pocket (figuratively) sometimes when it drops to 3G.
What should I do? Do i need to get a new phone? Anyone else massively disappointed with the Gnex data connection?
GSM ftw.

GSM touters aside,
Have u tried flashing one of the custom radio packages or even one of the radio hybrids?
i had some wifi-mobile data handoff issues with the 4.0.2 radios, but the 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 have been stellar. digs out 4g almost everywhere and whatever the connection, no heat or handoff issues.
i also came from a thunderbolt. and the only place i have issues is when i am in a building pretty far away from windows. at work, where i had an OK 4gLTE connection on my thunderbolt, i have a 50/50 connection on my nexus (probably 80% 4g with thunderbolt)
other than that, as long as i am close to a window, or outside i get as good a connection as my thunderbolt did. you may have a bad SIM card, or a bad radio in general. i would try to get it replaced.

Loss Of Signal When Wifi's In Use?

So, I've had my phone for probably about a year or maybe longer, Rooted it when I first got it, came from an Eris...I flashed a few different ROMs then kinda settled and have been out of it for quite some time now...
But I'm back...and I've got a question, back when I was flashing ROMs often, I couldn't find one that wouldn't drop network connections while using wifi/wifi tether.
Has this issue been resolved? It didn't seem like it was ever a really big issue with most, before, so when I asked about it months ago, no one said much, but I'm hoping now, with newer releases of ROMs someone will have some more info on this issue?
Thanks in advance...
p.s.
currently I'm running TSM Bullet Vivow 1.4 and haven't flashed anything for a good 8 months and I'm gettin buggy and wanna upgrade to something fancy, fast and doesn't drop service...
You need to get a update of your firmware
I'm still a newb on a lot of stuff...how do I go about doing that?
Just google
Are you referring to a radio update? Last I checked, that wasn't the issue and I tried different radios with no results
Kamikaze - I experienced this as well on Bullet, is it while you are on the phone and the call drops out for a few seconds? I think it has to do with the modified boot.img that the port uses.
This is a list of what worked without connection issues for me.

Yeah, it is a problem with ROMs that are ported. The only ROM this doesn't happen on for me is Justin's stock/stock-modified ROM.
I always found that all ported ROMs worked for me because I had the latest OEM radio. But, when I had the leaked ROM for the DINC2 it said to update a radio but I didn't and the WiFi and data signals kept over writing reach other.
So, its just a thing with the radio.

My experience has been less than pleasant with my signal on my Inc2. I have been all over google trying to find a way to boost my signal for the Inc2. I have only had my Inc2 for a few months and just rooted a few weeks ago. Mine problem is not a result of having WiFi on/off, mine is just a week signal period (-95 dBm to -105 dBm). From what I found through my search is people modifying the back cover with foil/copper wire and tape, raising the cleaning the contacts for the antenna, which I have tried all of these as well. I am considering buying a new cover just to see if I can get a better signal as everything I have tried has failed to boost my signal. I have tried *22891 to update my PRL as well as toggling the settings from CDMA only PRL and CDMA/GSM PRL. If anyone finds the magic trick to boost signal strength I am open to other suggestions.

Data speeds are a bit slow but that is not really a problem as I connect to wifi most of the time. The major problem is I get grumbled voices a lot when the signal drops below -100 and I have to change rooms to continue the conversations, only a dropped call from time to time, but I get people telling me they tried to call me but my phone didn't ring and I think that is a result of the low signal strength. I think this is a hardware problem more so then a software/rom issue because a lot of people have an issue with low signal with the Inc2 I found searching on the Verizon forums. I do appreciate you taking time to inquire.

Looking for a lower number would prove challenging unless you are right next to a Verizon tower. I know this because at work we have one on premises and my signal goes to 40 to 60 dbm.
Of course, at home, my signal ranges from 85 to 105 dbm but experience no dropped calls.
Ever since I got my first verizon phone in 2001 the signal quality has mostly measured (on every phone) at approx 85 to 105.
And this is living in two metropolitan cities. I wouldnt give it that much thought unless you are dropping calls. Upgrading the radio is a good idea though as well as PRL after upgrading radio.
Edit: Just realized your post was answered. I would call Verizon and inform them of the call drops and ask them to log them. Could be your unit.

Yeah, just an update, nothing has cured the issue, updated both firmware and radio with the lastest leak ROM when it came out last month, then switched to different CM ROMs and those were horrible with the toggling of wifi hot spot signal and mobile network, so I went back to bullet and am just living with the random toggling off of wifi/network
I had been bouncing around on alot of the ICS rom's but couldn't seem to find one that this issue was gone. I think it is kernel related.
Since I want my phone to not have this issue I went back to GB for now which for me I didn't want to but this rom works just flawless for me.
GB Sense M 5.0.1 Ext4 Version w/ Drell's #21 Kernel w/ Sense 3 Patch v5.0
Was going to try cm7.2 next since I have always liked non-sense roms.
