Vodafone UK Have Released Offical Froyo Update! - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

GOOD NEWS FOR VODAFONE UK USERS WAITING ON FROYO 2.2
Connected my Galaxy S to Keis this morning at 0700 GMT & was greeted with the mesage firmware update available
Proceeded with firware upgrade & am now running Froyo 2.2 Build Number: FROYO.BUJP7
Upgrade went very smoothly using the latest version of Keis.
The Vodafone badging & splash screens have also dissapeared!
The phone is functioning 100% & does seem faster & less laggy, although as i have just upgraded i will reserve a full judgement untill i have time to test properly.
My Phone is with Vodafone UK & is completely stock with no rooting history or tweaks of any kind!
Cheers gang
Dave

How to upagrade to this version??

Just got a text by vodafone to tell me it's available (despite my handset being unbranded). Their FAQs say that due to customer feedback, it removes the vodafone animations and 360 services Bout time Vodafone listened to customers!

Yeah I had the h1 the 360 thing was **** sent it back after a week. But bought the galaxy sim-free been running 2.2 for ages now on voda.

[Q] Slightly worrying comment on Voda UK board about FroYo release.

In the ongoing discussion about when Vodafone will release FroYo for their branded Desires, someone has just authoritatively posted this;
****The "Official" release of v2.20 (FroYo) software for the HTC Desire, Vodafone branded, will be 28th October 2010****
Link here; http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/63923-htc-desire-android-22-coming-soon/page__st__80
Vodafones bought on contract from Carphone Warehouse. Are they branded?
Carphne warehouse don't brand the phones... mine was from them on the release date and was HTC stock.. No Vodafone on it at all..
Nice
Thank you!
Oh and a Desire bought on contract from the Vodafone store. Would that be branded?
why wait
im on vodafone.had the branding,as u can tell if it has the vodafone scene.
so i got bored..debranded..then got froyo official..loving it..id advise it
took 20 mins for the whole process...
seriously why wait?

Mango Update: Carriers Status

What we know so far... The carriers below have tested and approved the update and are waiting on Microsoft to deploy it.
Official word from Microsoft is Mango will start rolling out between September 26th and October 9th.
Vodafone Australia
Optus
Telstra
Telus
Bell
O2 Germany
Deutsche Telekom
SFR France
Orange France
O2 UK
Other information as follow:
AT&T to start rollout on September 27th for HTC Surround, LG Quantum and Samsung Focus Rev. v1.3 (supposedly as there's no official word directly from AT&T to consumers)
have not deployed on telstra yet
Talked to O2 in UK and they just say they cannot say anything about it. Useless company and useless staff.
Oh Oh Oh, I have confirmation from "3" UK that they are..doing absolutely..nothing. That was 3 days ago.
I did post this in another thread but I think it got ignored because of countless "WHERES MY UPDATE" posts.
Give my email address to /b/ and I will kill all of you.

If no one posted, then call them up to see if you can find any info, that's what everyone else is doing...
I heard some, probably not accurate, stuff, that AT&T should be rolling out Mango on day 1, which _could_ be as soon as Monday. But don't believe me, it might be HOAX.
Oh and Windows Phone CZ on Facebook asked if we are preparing for Mango update in upcoming DAYS
AT&T said, "AT&T will be among the first to offer the Windows Phone Mango update to its leading portfolio of Windows Phones this fall." Not sure if that means you can get it on day 1.

Upgrading my Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) to ICS

Hi Forum
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 which is out of warranty. As is known to most, Samsung is most likely not going to come out with an ICS upgrade to this model.
I live in India and travel frequently to the UK, and am therefore looking for a stable ICS ROM that will work on my phone and render the phone usable in India and the UK. I did try with a Cynogen Mod 9 ROM for the i9000 which worked in the UK, but the moment I landed in India, the SIM refused to register with the GSM network in India. My IMEI number also changed when I flashed my phone with this ROM.
Currently, my phone was brought back to a working condition with a Samsung Android 2.1 ROM, but this ROM is really bad and makes my phone freeze frequently.
I am looking forward to some advice from the XDA Forum members to point me to a stable ICS ROM that I can download and flash my phone with, so that the phone works in India.

[Q] OTA update questions

I have a factory unlocked HOX that I bought from NewEgg. The phone's default language was Taiwan English and all the packaging also matches with that, so I guess it's an Asian market device. Now, as you can probably see, I'm in Canada, on Virgin Mobile. I'm also new to Android, coming from iOS. Something I had always heard about as a negative about the Android platform was that people had to not only wait for Google to release their OS updates (eg 4.0.4), and for their device manufacturer to create their OTA update (Android 4.0.4 plus Sense 4.x I guess), but also for the carrier to roll out the updates.
So my questions are simply, "what role does the carrier have in OTA updates?", "how does this process work when you have a factory unlocked device?", and "does the fact that my carrier does not carry/officially support the HOX change anything?"
I've already received OTA updates since I got the phone, so I know they work, I'm just interested in how the whole update system works in Android, and how my OTA update availability schedule will look.
Thanks

your phone is the international unlocked version. in fact its the taiwan version which in some and most cases, gets the update before the europen and asian N HK ones. If there is an update, you would be the first to receive it.

Anyone in Australia have Nougat?

So after some uneventful conversations on the HTC live chat, I'm wondering if any of you have an unlocked HTC 10 from Australia and have the nougat update?

It started rolling out about a week and a half ago. Are you rooted? If so you won't get an OTA update. You'll need to update manually
I'm not. To my knowledge I have a stock ROM as I got this handset from JB.

Would this be an Optus OTA? To my knowledge, Telstra and Vodafone haven't released any comms about Nougat update for the HTC 10 while Optus was testing both the M9 and 10 earlier this month. M9 was definitely listed as released but 10 was still marked as being tested earlier this week.

As I understand it, JB HiFi was selling phones with either Optus or Vodafone firmware. Mine's from JB too and is on 1.95.710.3 which I understand to be the Vodafone version.
Optus update status states 'Testing Android 7.0 update and VoLTE – completion expected late February':
https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Android-Software-Updates-16-02-2017/ba-p/198463
UPDATE: Actually, Vodafone has HTC 10 listed as well as "Testing complete, awaiting feedback from HTC", hopefully that doesn't mean a long wait.
http://community.vodafone.com.au/t5...-2017-Software-Update-Weekly-Wrap/td-p/424073
JB sold an unlocked handset which I am with on the Optus network. I am on 1.95.710.3 as well. I was under the impression that HTC sends the software to unlocked devices first specifically, and then to carriers who then distribute it for the optus devices. Would I be correct in assuming that?

That's usually the case though I'm not entirely sure about the nature of our firmware (mine's the same as yours) - is it a true unbranded retail or an unlocked carrier version? I know the Moto Razr I had in the past was an unlocked Vodafone handset.

Im not sure. I would be more inclined to go unbranded retail but again, Im not certain.
Bump.
My HTC 10 is right now in the process of downloading 2.42.710.2 (1.19Gb) OTA. It's this one:
http://ausdroid.net/2017/02/27/nougat-update-htc-10-now-rolling-vodafone-customers/
Got it as well!
Installed here too.. however no live wallpapers. I personally hate all the default graphics on the HTC10 so in MM had a Sony live wallpaper which I liked.
Anyone else here have issues with live wallpapers?
Steve
