O2 Germany will be releasing official WM 6 update

Don't know if this is old news here, but I just came across a news that tells about O2 Germany releasing an official WM 6 upgrade. I assume it will be for free.

Does anyone know how far I might be able to use O2 updates with my unbranded htc device with another provider? I'd say don't care, but O2's providing that home zone stuff my provider doesn't
Don't have much experience with updating my Hermes.

i hope ONE austria will do this too, or ill leave them.

I asked them some weeks ago, the answer was "WM6? Theres a new WM out?". And this was a technician from the tech hotline........ But I'm fine with the Roms on this site, no need to have all the ONE stuff in the extrom.
BTW: Did you manage UMTS to work? I only have GPRS access.

Today I also read in a printed computer magazine (C't who knows) that HTC will be releasing a free upgrade in June. According to that article on downloads.europe.htc.com, but I can't find anything usefull there yet. Let's hope for the best.

It's official, no WM6 upgades for T-Mobile customers!

Hi there, I joined T-Mobile UK about a month ago because it is the only network with a reasonable "unlimited" data tariff.
Given that all of the other suppliers have been releasing WM6 upgrades for the current batch of HTC based phones, I was expecting T-Mobile to do the same. Sadly, I was mistaken as you can see from the official response I've just received from them.
If you are a T-Mobile user, I would recommend that you email them directly - perhaps if enough people complain, they might change their minds - it can't be that hard since it looks like HTC do most of the work!

We have decided that bringing in new MDA devices that make best use of the features of Windows Mobile 6 is a better use of our resources than rolling it out on existing devices which already work well with Windows Mobile 5.
I realise this is disappointing however, I'm pleased to tell you that we'll be including Windows Mobile 6 on all new MDA devices that are launched. This will be starting with the MDA Touch and MDA Vario III in September.

UK Release date / GSM exclusivity

Hey does anyone know if any networks are claiming exclusivity to the Touch Pro 2 in the UK and even when its likely to be with the different GSM companies.
My TyTnII is getting very worn down and I dont fancy buying a second SIM-free phone to get the Pro2 to replace it.

i am also (and for a looooong time) eagerly awaiting the answer to this question!
my kaiser looks like it got imported from the classic starwars era, or has just been fighting the taliban in afghanistan, call buttons are just red or green haphazard scratches and the windows start button...lol its not even there anymore!

Mobilegazette have it hitting t-mobile in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Czech Republic in June.
Orange retentions UK, confirmed it's on their list of coming soon but no specific date.

O2 release
Any word on an o2 release as i cant see why it wouldnt but would be nice to know that i dont have to change networks to get it.
Then again o2 keep tight lipped on everything until it is actually released.

lets hope its not the same farse on tmobile that the MDA Vario 4 was.

I had a meeting with a sales rep from o2 the other day with a view to switch from Vodafone to o2 and he mentioned that they are looking at getting some updated HTC models in soon and whilst he couldnt give names he hinted at the diamond2 would be one and the pro2 may be another.
He also said that they put their devices through a long testing period before release so they can put their custom ROM in.

Which means a release in late-2010 for upgrade customers over retentions. I am willing to put alot of money on this to be the case.

Yeah which is why im not holding out on O2 for anything with the Pro2.
At the moment I am considering taking the upgrade on orange to the touch HD, selling my original touch HD (bought sim free) and then buying the Pro2 sim free when it comes out.
What i want to do is have Orange announce the Pro2 then see what deal they can concoct to keep me on the network when I come to review my contract in a month or 2

It had better come out on o2 as i really dont want to switch to orange and really cant be arsed with the move to a new network, come on o2 and bring it to us earlier than 6 months after the full realease of the phone!

I dont mind which network takes it - Orange would be less hassle for me as im already there but I just want a network to confirm it and put it on a coming soon page so i can plan leaving or working on getting a pre-order in

Phone will be out on orange later this month, maybe towards the end as it should not conflict with the launch of the omnia hd which is due this week, T Mobile will be getting the touch diamond with a view to picking up the touch pro 2 in july. Nothing on o2 or vodafone as of yet.

Arvin - have you got any press release or anything from Orange to back this up? Really want to see what they want to start pitching it at so i can work out what i do/dont want to spend with them!

i talked to HTC yesterday and got release date of 05.06 for the U.K and Germany.

Hope this is correct

thats what i got in writing from htc (without any commitment as observation of course). If we compare the time periord of release of the diamond and touch pro it was aprox.the same, so it could be true.

Any idea how long internal coming soon turns to official coming soon/release. My commitment date on the contract just passed for my TyTnII and i am looking to upgrade ASAP!

well the omnia hd went on mid april and its being launched this week now, the touch pro 2 came on around the same time frame and should land end of this month or begining of june. supplier problems hindered the launch of the omnia hd though , was meant to be last week so might have pushed the touch pro 2 back a bit

The Expansys website has been updated to say...
Availability: Normally less than 5 days
I sent an email to them asking if this is the case and when we can expect it to be release.
This is the reply...
Many thanks for your enquiry , please be advised that the Touch Pro 2 is out towards the end of June.
I hope this aint true.

Update Blocking Carriers - Name and Shame

Ok, so it appears some carriers have blocked the first update that does nothing to WP7.
To take a quote from WP7 support:
[Some Mobile Operators have the right to skip one update if they wish.
However, they can't skip the next one, which would be an acumulative update and would include the previous one.
So if your mobile operator decided to block this one, you will be getting the early March one (which will include the Feb one too)]

The concern is if they block an update that does nothing, what will they do in future?
So, lets try to isolate which ones havent updated yet - if you have a BRANDED handset that HAS OR HAS NOT been updated :

There is also a list of carriers who are apparently confirmed to be pusing it out - but I would debate this to be totally accurate (as with the above list) as they too are sourcing their information from posts by people who may not necessarily know if their phone is Branded.

I think there was an article somewhere stating that this update is being rolled out in steps to ensure that it goes out smoothly.
i think it is quite probable that MS is also sort of dipping its toe in the water before it dives in with the first proper update.

Of course this is possible, but then they go post things like:

When I asked if TmoUSA was blocking the update, I got this response from WindowsPhoneSupport...

At this stage, I am just compliling a list of branded phones that have not been updated - as they get updated, I will ammend the list and append the date of the update next to the carrier.
I love that, Microsoft say they dont know if a carrier has blocked an update...

Well, in the support team's defense, they probably wouldn't be given that information, especially the Twitter branch of it... At least not this early. I think they're just tiering the updates, and maybe holding them off until they fix this Samsung issue...

You need to compile a list of people that HAVE received the update, not people that have not: Microsoft directly said the first update would NOT be rolled out to everyone.
Also, what's the big deal ? It's just a pre-emptive update, not something that actually matters.

Actually, it has the first batch of OEM software updates, so it does matter.
I am monitoring the update thread for those that have.

Samsung Focus with AT&T here and still without an update. I wish there was another way to get them.

Neither me or my mate have received updates on our T-Mobile Samsung Omnia 7s

[Q] Samsung Omnia 7 Mango Update in UK

Hi,
I have a locked Omnia 7 on Orange. I have an OS version of 7392. I was expecting to get the mango update but still Zune says my phone is up to date.
Has anyone in the UK received Mango for their Omnia 7 on the Orange network?

Yeh - Both me and my sister got it on Orange about 2 weeks ago. It's random though as far as i can tell wheteher you are in the early rounds or not. Even if your carrier has approved it.
