I don't have the Touch Pro 2 yet but I am trying to help someone out to fix his issue.
Basically his problem is the suggested word feature doesn't work as well as the Original Touch Pro.
Here is his issue. If anybody could help I would greatly appreciate it.
The correct word "também" is correctly suggested if I type "tamb". So far, so good (although on Touch Pro I could type "tambem" and he would suggest "também" also). The problem is with small words like "olá", "não", "é", "há", "ás", etc...
The T9 only starts suggesting words after the third letter.
Does anyone know how to make the T9 start suggesting after the first typed letter? It would make things better, but it would not solve the problem. There are many words that are single lettered: "é", "à", "á", etc..

Maybe a registry setting? I don't have the TP2 so I am not able to browse the registry and find it but I figured you guys would be the best help for this issue. Thanks in advance.
Try this...
Dont know if its what you are after, but might be

hope this helps
I think most t9 starts after the third word because just by typing one letter, there are thousands of words that it can be. So when more letters are typed, it narrows down the selection in the dictionary. The only words that might show up quicker is if the TP2 actually stores newly added words into the dictionary.

Hi. I'm the one who wrote the quoted message
Thanks dfootball56!
Let me just add some more info: what madjsp wrote is indeed true. However, on Touch Pro, this never happened... If I typed "esta", the XT9 on Touch Pro would suggest "está", "esta", "estámos", etc... On TP2, "está" only is suggested if I type "est".
This is, if I type the full accented word (without the accent) it does not suggests the correctly accented word...
Hope I'm not being too much confusing...
Thanks for any help!
you've been clear enough! same problem here, very very annoying since in italian accented letters are very common too.. no solutions / hacks / tricks??
that would be great! thaks a lot!

Hey man. Figured these guys on here were the best resource of new hacks and tweaks. I'm sure someone will get bored and try to figure something out...haha If I had one now I would search the registry for you but it hasn't came out in the U.S yet
Update: I mailed HTC and they understood and acknowledged my problem. Just hope it was worth the "effort"...
I'm quoting all the mails:
Me: (...) already described the problem
HTC:"Hi Nuno,
The T9 dictionary does not include words with special characters. You can add these words manually, and they will be remembered next time you need them. On the onscreen keyboards, tapping and holding on the letter assosciated with the special character will display all the extra characters for that letter, and you can drag and select them.
Best REgads"
Me: "Hi. Thanks for the fast reply. I'm afraid I disagree with you: the T9 does include words with special characters. I've never added words like "está", "também", "já", and they are there. The problem is that even if I add the word "olá" to the diccionary (not needed because it is already there), the T9 will not suggest it because the suggestions only start after the third letter. I type "ola" and it does not suggests me "olá". However, the T9 of the 'old' Touch Pro that I've got does this correctly: I type "estariamos" -the full word - and it suggests me "estaríamos". On the Touch Pro 2, I would have to type "estar" so it could suggest me "estaríamos". Are understanding what the problem is? I hope I'm not being too confuse. Thanks."
HTC:"Hi Nuno,
I understand the issue now, I do not think I can resolve this for you now, I have forwarded details to our developers for investigation and possible resolution. Please monitor our support pages for fixes and updates in teh future, and I will be back in contact once I have further news for you.
Best Regards"
I then closed the "support case". I think there's nothing much I can do...
Nuno, did you recieve any reply from their side?
great job nuno, so basically we have to wait and pray for them to fix it in a rom update or hotfix... wtf

Yes, I did... you can see what they told me on my previous post.
Unfortunately we just have to wait for a hotfix...
at least they said they will do this hotfix.. it's a good start, now let's hope it doesn'take ages!
Today I found that the T9 word suggestion work's perfectly if I write the messages in portrait mode (without hard keyboard out) and with the "telephone numeric keys" selected...
This is indeed a bug somewhere on the T9 definitions...
Hi.
I worked out a solution!! ;D ;D ;D
I borrowed a Portuguese Touch Pro, copied the following files from \windows
eT9.HQD.kdb
eT9.SQR.Accented.kdb
et9.sqr.portuguese.kdb
eT9ime.dll
KbdNopAll.dll
and then placed them on the \windows folder of the Touch Pro 2
Reboot and DONE!
Good "old" XT9 with the correctly suggested words!!
I've placed the files here, in case someone needs it:
http://www.nunosilva.com.pt/nuno/outras/T9TouchPro.rar
Mind that this is for the Portuguese TP2; I don't know if there are differences from TP2 from other countries.
Thank you all for your help
Well... not that solved after all...
I found out that the Touch Pro has specific keys for these marks:
/ ? + = - _
Meaning: on the Touch Pro 2, I can't write them with the hard keyboard
I also found out that it is only necessary to replace the eT9ime.dll file; all the other are pointless as far as I figured out.
So, to put it back in it's original form, just re-replace the eT9ime.dll file.
Here is the link, in case someone forgot to backup the files before replace them with the files from the Touch Pro:
http://www.nunosilva.com.pt/nuno/outras/T9TouchPro2.rar
Because it is an .dll file I don't really know if it is editable in any way... is someone knows how to do it, please do tell me..
Thanks.
Hi guys, complete WinMo newb here, and I'm probably missing something, but I've got a burning question I can't seem to find the answer to.
I've got my Tilt2 running EnergyROM Phoenix right now. Pretty stable, but there's one thing I've been wanting to do for a long time: Be able to send off a typed SMS from the keyboard without having to reach my thumb up and smack the Send button with my thumb on the touchscreen.
I've got the Rhodium Keyboard Config installed, and I can't find a way to map it there. Maybe I'm missing something?
(PS: That OK key is useless on my Tilt2--I'd like to map it there, if possible.)
Thanks in advance.

what i do is make a script to simulate a mouseclick on the screen and then map that to the button of your choice using keyboard config
Hi.
I have a norwegian touch pro 2, which means my keyboard is a bit "strange"and have theese weird æøå buttons. I don't need those to work, but my Fn key, neither my ctrl key (which is placed where your Fn key is placed at the lower left) will not give me access to any Fn function keys like / ! () etc. Is this a know issue? Is there a way for me to fix this?
Ps. Thanks a lot for porting Android to TP2. Except for this and GPS all my needs are satisfied, and Android is so much better to use than WM6.5. So thanks a bunch guys, going to make a small contribution as soon as I get my first paycheck next month

Whats wrong with your GPS?
Hi all !
I tried to look for a thread talking about that, but I didn't find some ...
I have a problem with my Desire Z, with the physical keyboard.
I need to write specials characters like the : < or the : > and others
But I don't have them on my physical keybord, even if I do the key : FN + Symb I have only few special characters ! where are all of special characters I have with my tactical keyboard ??????
If someone has few informations about that, that would be very helpfull !
Thanks for reading my poor english.
On the G2 i hold Alt and K to for like 2 secs and a small menu will pop up allowing me to do 3 additional characters one of them is >. For the desire z i am guessing my alt button is your FN button. Give that a try
Thanks for the answer.
I tried again to long press on all the keys of the physical keyboard. I have other specials characters with most of the keys but no < or > ....
And for the letter : K , I have only one other character : ?
I dont know why its a : ? ....?!

This works the same on the Desire Z
Hold FN & K for 2/3 seconds & a menu pops up with '>'
Hold FN & J for 2/3 seconds & a menu pops up with '<'
Doesn't work on the German version of the DZ...all I get when I press and hold FN-K is:
üüüüüüüüüüüüüüüüüü
...because the German Umlauts sit on jkl. Hoping for an Update...
Maybe I have to say that I have french Desire Z.
I think it's a problem with the localisation of the language .... maybe, maybe not ...
I up the post !
nobody have informations about that ?
Desire Z HW keyboard problem
hi to all,
i have purchased htc desire z from O2 (CR) and also had a problem with HW keyboard, on the second row from the second or third key the special characters were shifted by one key....
O2 wanted to exchange the phone for a new one immediately, but a second phone we unpacked at the store had the same problem....
ive got my money back, and i have no new phone 8((
im so far hesitating to purchase the phone again elsewhere....
I have the german version of the desire z and for > and < you can press the FN key with the key label SYM and an magnifying glass on it
Weird, as my German Desire Z (stock Sense ROM) with German keyboard setting only allows these characters with the SYM button:
'...' ¥ · ® © ± [ ] { } \ |
Holding Fn + something else for two seconds doesn't work for any key.
Same problem.
I dont know if some dev can correct the problem, I think its software and not hardware.
I will try to call HTC to know more about this problem
EDIT :
I just called HTC center. After 30 minutes on the phone, they don't have a solution for me, their best solution was to use the virtual keyboard, I said it is not a solution for me, I bought a HTC Desire Z to always use a physical keyboard, and if some countries don't have this problem, why I have to stay with this problem without doing something. The guy on the phone told me he will send this problem higher and if he has informations he'll call me back.
Maybe people who have the same problem can call HTC to show to HTC that it's a permanent bug, permanent missing option and we need this option back. (I need in fact, but I think I'm not the only one who need the < and > when I use my physical keyboard)
I'll give new informations as soon as I have news
Thx again for reading my f****** poor english
Similar topic is DZ Sym Key Menu.
HTC says its only possible through the virtual keyboard.

Yes without doing something it's only possible with virtual keyboard.
But if they do something, they can "fix" that by including < and > in the FN+Symb combo popup.
It's easy to say something like that. But for a customer like me, I can't let them saying that. Why because I'm using a Azerty Desire I dont have these characters and why US people have them correctly with their physical keyboard, in fact there is no problem for US keyboard, only for French keyboard (and I guees German too).
It's not my problem, it's their problem, and I hope they will fix it.
Saying to use the virtual keyboard is a funny joke, when we know that the Desire Z has a physical keyboard ! People you buy this smartphone does it because they don't want to use the virtual keyboard ....
These kinds of answers make me crazy so sorry because its totally stupid and think people are stupid, I AM NOT !
I agree with you. Yes, it is normal to expect that you will be able to input the same characters on the HW keyboard.
I do not understand why they left them out.
Especially weird seems leaving out different characters on different layouts while barely/not using the symbol key and pretty much omitting Shift-Fn-.. combinations...

Does anyone know if at all possible to swap the Z and Y symbols on a QWERTZ hard kb on an Austrian Dezire Z?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Work-around (lame but nonetheless)
Hey all,
I ended up here yesterday, also looking for a way to input the "less than" or "greater than" symbols (<, >) on my Desire Z using the physical keyboard.
I don't have a solution, but I have found a workaround that is acceptable to me (until somebody finds out how to add symbols to the SYM list ).
Just enter the symbols as "quick text". Then, you can press then MENU button on your keyboard while typing, press "quick text" on your screen, and then select the symbol you want.
It's a good idea to delete the default quick text messages (unless you actually use them ), so that you won't have to scroll to select your symbols of choice.
I know it's far from perfect, but better than the only other way to get to these symbols. At least for me (Desire Z bought in the Netherlands), I would have to:
1) close phone
2) tap text area to activate onscreen keyboard
3) tap '12#' button
4) tap '1/2' button
5) tap symbol (e.g. '<' or '>')
6) open phone again and continue typing
I also know this is a pretty obvious "workaround", but I thought that the possibility that it might provide some relief to somebody somewhere made it worthwhile typing it out
For the rest, but the way, it's seriously an amazing phone (and OS)! My previous phone was a Touch Pro, with Windows Mobile 6.5 I think (or 6? Don't even remember - and never got around to flashing it, sad as that may be ), and this is amazing. I'm not so much of an Apple person, but I can now for the first time understand what they experienced when they played around with an iPhone or Apple for the first time. The gap in functionality and userfriendliness is mind-boggling.
So, bar the fact that it's not so easy to type "<3" anymore, great phone
< and > characters have been added to the SYM list in the OTA 1.72 version I know this version has been pulled out by HTC but I'm sure the SYM list will also be updated in the next OTA.
But I still can't find the degree symbol. Am I missing something?
Sent from my Vision using XDA App
What still is totally missing is the clause symbol (§). I did not find any way to type this (neither hard- nor softkeyboard). I really hate it, as I need it regularly.
The '<' and '>' characters are available through the C and V chars.
@Becksman: I found § in the 'S' menu.
(Although I'm not sure for the Sense ROM, I'm on Cyanogen 7)
Hello,
I didn't post here for a long time, so I hope that this is the correct section to post my problem, if it isn't, I kindly ask a moderator to move it in the correct place, thank you.
Also I wanna thank all that users here who develop custom ROMs, you are doing a great job.
Now I would like to explain my problem:
I ran an HTC Desire Z with the stock ROM for almost a year now and decided to upgrade the ROM. A friend helped me to unlock and root the device, he put the Andromadus CM 10.1 build 22 on the phone.
This (and also the hardware keyboard) worked quite fine, until I installed SwiftKey via Amazon Appstore.
Since I installed this app and changed the input method for both on-screen-keyboard and physical keyboard, the hardware keyboard behaves weird and is not fully useable. The layout changed from german QWERTZ to QWERTY (which I actually chose in Swiftkey Settings as it is fine for me), but additionally, the FN Key doesn't work anymore: When I press it, followed by some key, the number or symbol doesn't appear. Instead, nothing happens; additionally, in Skype 4.4.0.31835, the button for sending a chat disappears and can be only brought back by switching to portrait mode.
Unfortunately, neither unchecking SwiftKey from input methods nor uninstalling it solved this problem, which is quite annoying as I cannot type any numbers and many needed special signs.
I checked already these things:
- physical keyboard layout (vision-keypad-ger)
- Has this keyboard file the right content, according to Thread "[GUIDE] Simple way to change physical keyboard keymappings!" --> yes, it has, even Y and Z are not swapped)
So it seems as if SwiftKey changed some other file or setting in the system.
Could anyone please tell me where to search to resolve that issue?
Thank you very much in advance,
greets,
PS. I could, of course, backup the phone and reflash it, but I really would like to use SwiftKey as it improved my workflow dramatically even though I only used, use and will use the hardware keyboard...
Hello,
I now had some time to investigate a bit more. First I have to add, that some keys still worked with FN; these were ! ([email protected]), = (FN+?) and one other which I don't remember.
Then, I backed up my Apps and Data and reflashed another ROM (SlimROM), with which I had a lot of other problems, so I switched back to the already stated Flinny-CM10.1, Build 22.
I didn't install Swiftkey, neither any other apps, I just changed the hardware keyboard layout to QWERTY. Immediately, I had the same behaviour
Also, I checked the other files in the keychars directory and I found that the system fell back to "Generic.klc". Exchanging the file with "vision-keypad-ger.klc" by renaming it now led to even worse - now only the menu and the search buttons are working i.e. the keyboard is completely unuseable...
As next, I also changed something in the keylayouts directory, which made no improvement.
can somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks a lot =)
greets
