So I woke up this morning to phone charged too 100%, and I picked it up and it was really warm. Hot almost, I unplugged it and it went straight to zero, then shut off. Any ideas?

try wiping batt stats, and do a battery pull. sounds like you weren't getting a good contact or something. that or something is preventing your battery from charging, app?

I did just install dead runner before I went to bed, but hasn't happened since. I was just afraid a ev-omb next to me
Weird, I have had that happen before, and then I just do a battery pull and reboot and all is good. Did you have it plugged into wall or usb device?

Wall charger, non htc, samsung I believe, but after a pull it was deffinetly dead.
It's the setcpu screen off settings combined with a havs enabled kernel. It is recommended that you don't use setcpu profiles (especially a low frequency screen off one) when using a kernel with havs.

this same thing happened to me after using my samsung camera's usb wall charger... once unplugged, my batter was dead...
Micro usb chargers are not all created equal (that and they have different voltages). Also the EVO is pretty picky about where the charge comes from. I have a pre and an evo (and the little wall plugs are different).
One last point samsung micro chargers are a tad smaller than most, the EVO is a tad larger. Needless to say you probably did not have a proper charge on the phone.
Seems to me like it's a defective battery.. Happened to some of my old electronics and all I did was replace battery and they were fine..

Sorry if this subject has been beat to death, but i'm new to the EVO. Actually the fone belongs to a good friend of mine. She was told that if her battery gets so low that the fone shut's down, she'll need to bring it to a store for them to get it restarted. This seams wrong. I know with my Droid1, D2, And DInc1, all will power up as soon as they're plug'd in.
Both my friend and i are rather intelligent, and if a sales rep at Sprint can reboot it, so can we. (after all, her is the only fone i mentioned not rooted)
What i'm looking for is:
1. Does this condition really exhist?
2. If so, how do I! reboot it?
Sometimes the Evo's battery will drop so low that it won't charge - it happens fairly often. You'll need to take the battery to a Sprint store so they can boost the battery.
An external wall charger should charge it too. It isn't a given that the battery won't charge after dying completely, it's just a possibility. I have never had it happen to me, but people start threads about it all the time thinking their phone is bricked.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
I have never heard of this happening and have never had it happen to me. Did a quick search and you may want to have a look at this thread HERE to see if you can find some answers.

Exactly what Jane said is correct. It will get so low sometimes that it will need to be "boosted". I have a battery right now that my wife let get so low I can't do anything with it so I just gave her my spare.

No it isn't. Its the protection circuit in the battery. In an undervolt (as in an overvolt) condition the charging circuit shuts down.
As was mentioned earlier, a wall charger can sometimes push the voltage high enough to "revive" the battery. I believe it depends on the battery.

Exactly. Or if you're like me, an aggressive under volter, when you let the battery hit 0 and it auto shuts down, once plugged in, the charging like blinks for a about a minute before it stays solid, which is normal.

I'm sorry I can't link to the secured site bug list for the Evo however I service 10-20 Evo's a week where the owner has let the battery die to the point where the phone won't power or charge the battery. Pull the battery and drop it in a HTC Hero/Touch Pro 2 or external charger and it will charge but simply will not charge in an Evo. This does not affect all Evo's. I'll say again, this is a known bug.
I'm feeling pretty doomed too! I ordered two batteries plus a wall charger from ebay and have been charging it but it = ZERO! Plus I tried to charge the stock battery with the cable, and it still never charged! I thought it was the cord, but when I plug it into the pc, the usb de-bug still comes on. Earlier, I was on the phone with my bf, and dead it went when it was at 81% charged and I was on the phone for no more than 15 minutes. WTF IS WRONG WITH MY PHONE!? Rooted.
I was wondering if it was possible to have the primary source of power be the USB port versus the battery. I tend to leave my devices plugged in a lot more than I probably should and figured if I could do this it would save on messing up my batteries. It's kind of like having a laptop plugged in without a battery (if you don't really take it out).
Doesn't really help, but if you charge your battery to 100%. you can pull it out as it runs on the usb port from then on. Only worked a few times for me

That's not what I was trying to get at. I was trying to avoid using the battery versus continual draining/charging it. I tend to use it as my hotspot at home for my primary internet connection and sometimes music.
My thought process was if I didn't constantly use the battery I'd keep phone temperature low and not mess up the battery.
Have you ruined batteries in the past by charging them/depleting them? Honestly, I have mine on and off the charger constantly. Today I used my phone to listen to Pandora most of the day and about half way through the day I video chatted with a friend and had it on the charger. I took it off the charger, ran around a little bit away from my house and then came back and it currently sits on the charger again.
From my experience with it, I've never had any issues with keeping it on/off the charger periodically through the day. I am also using a 3500mAh extended battery, but I did the same thing on the stock one.
I understand you are trying to keep temperatures low and play on the safe side, but unless you are noticing unusually high temperatures or something, I wouldn't worry about it being on and off the charger.

Yeah, if you're worried about the battery crapping out, I wouldn't. I've had mine on charger every night or every other night, and it's still like new.
Heck, even if it did die on you, you can get a brand new OEM battery on eBay for less than $6 shipped.
Quick tip on battery. If you go online and sprint chat with a representative, just tell him or her your battery life is no good on your phone. Then he or she will tell you go to buy one then get back on chat and sprint will credit your account. I bought $60 battery extended with case and got credited $60 on my bill
Plus now I can charge one night and last two days!

I have a rooted 0003 Evo that runs many different roms- miui to bliss sense 3.5. It has amon ra 2.3 and the original hboot. it is completely rooted with s-off.
Now my issue... a few days ago I woke up with my phone on the charger but it completely dead. I had been running cm7 nightlies for about a month and always woke up with 80-85 % with it off of the charger. I thought maybe a nightly messed me up so thought it would be a good time to start flashing again, well it is not the rom. The thing I noticed was that when it is plugged into the htc wall charger (other chargers do not charge at all for me, no light or anything) it will say charging : AC but then switch to USB. I can not figure out why this is happening. It has now become impossible to use the phone when plugged in it drains faster then it can charge. I did find a wake lock issue but that now seems to be fixed. This morning I managed to get it to read 100% but it dropped to 71% within 10 minutes. I am now clueless so if anyone has any ideas let me know it would be appreciated. it battery monitor I also noticed that my "current" goes from red 20mah to green 260 mah but I am not a electrician and have no idea what these numbers mean
EDIT:
the phone says the battery is good and this was a sudden problem, like perfect battery performance with heavy use then just dead. I will need to go purchase a cradle. I am really hoping it is not the port. the thing that has me really confused is the switching from AC charge to USB charge without the phone even being moved.
Your battery is probably old and dying out due to age or sbc kernel? . Try a new battery or charge your current battery on an external cartridge. (Seperate wall charger)
I'm not too experienced with batteries but that is the process I will try out

I'm willing to bet that it's possibly your battery. Sounds to me like it just can't hold the charge correctly. The red and green numbers in BMW represent a drain or a charge. If you're at a red 20MAH (Milliamps/hour) then it's only draining at 20mah and that's nothing at all. Mine usually avgs a steady 51 throughout the day minus the times I'm checking something and I get my 8 hours just fine. I've used SBC kernels for a long time and mine doesn't do that kind of stuff or show any fatigue or damage from it. If you have a spare HTC Hero the batteries are the same. If not you COULD bring it to a sprint store and have them check it.

My wife and I had the same problem with our evo. We found out that it was the cheap aftermarket chargers that messed our phones up. I had to get a replacement. She is due for an upgrade so she will wait in the meantime she uses a battery cradle to charge hers. She is waiting for the I phone 5.

So my s2 has been charging really slow, like today it took like 5 hours to fully charge, and when connected to charger if I'm using it it wont charge very well, like the battery will stay at lets say 20% when im using it and charging it, it might even go down more. it used to charge pretty well even if I was on it. Cuz this be the charger, or is my battery messed up?? Im using the charger that came with the phone.

Are you charging through a usb port on your computer or ac? If it is with usb port then yes it will charge at a much slower rate. Also if you have a lot of apps running or backround data going it will also cause your charging to slow down some. I would say through usb without any apps open and backround data stopped It would take a few hours to charge say from 20%. Through AC in the same condition probly 1.5 hours. Try to reboot your phone and then plug it in to charge to see if that doesnt speed it up any. If it does then you know you have backround data moving at a fast rate and that would be your reason to slow the charge down.
Yeah I'm charging with the wall charger, not thru usb

You could try calibrating the battery, maybe. To do that, turn the phone off. Charge to full (make sure it's full, by taking it off of the charger and putting it back on...the indicator should read 100% almost immediately when reattached to power).
When the battery is full, with the phone still turned off, remove the battery for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, reinsert battery and restart phone.
Battery will be calibrated. This may not resolve the problem of a slow charge, but will clear 'battery memory' which may have been preventing it from charging completely (and, I suspect, may have inhibited charging).
Good luck!
I was using an aftermarket wall charger and had similar results. Switched to the USB/AC converter that came with the phone and all was well.

Actually, one doesn't need an app to calibrate the battery. If you follow the instructions above, the app is unnecessary. And the phone mustn't be rooted

Hey elflip88, have you found the issue yet?
I have the same problem on my HTC Amaze 4G. It's charging 1% every 3 minutes (adds up to 5 hours)
I'm also using the wall charger...oh damn, I'm starting to think I have a faulty device / battery...
yelp!
For the record Samsung devices are known to be slow at charging so with that considered.... You still shouldn't be at 5 hrs. I would find a battery stats app charge your battery over night and check the chart to see exactly how long it takes to go from 0 - 100. Make sure your batter status is good. Also check the voltage coming into your phone from your charger. There are plenty of battery stat apps in the market that will do this sort of thing. Of course make sure your battery doesn't have water damage of course too lol.

I've had the same problem with mine. But, I can get 1.5 days without charging and moderate usage. Charge it up, drain it, charge it back up then wipe your battery stats in recovery.
This may help if you're using an aftermarket wall charger
If you guys are having issues with slow charging using an aftermarket wall charger, it could be that the phone is charging in a USB state rather than an AC charging state. QuickCharge could alleviate your issues. The cable is inserted between the wall charger and the USB cable that goes to your phone. You can find the product on Amazon. It's the 2nd of 3rd item from the top when you search 'QuickCharge'.
I find that when I fully drain my battery and charge it, it's really slow. Once the phone has enough battery to stay on, I unplugged it and replugged it and it charges normal again.

It's your wifi and your apps using wifi. Turn wifi off while charging. I used to charge 4 hours + on my S2. Reduced to 2 and some change when I turn off wifi.
Also, I struggle to make it through a working day with wifi on. Turn wifi off and I can do 4 days no problem.

Here is a pic of what happened to me. Lately the phone shuts off whrn it gets ecen remotely hot, i can barely feel it getting hot when it shuts down. After that sometimes it wont reboot because the battery has drained and when I plug it in it shows a battery with a yellow triangle. Another thing is that my phone or battery has killed two different chargers and it seems now the only way to charge my phone is through a usb cable either connected to the wall or to my computer.
So which is it, my phone or my battery that is bad?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
As I recall, if the battery is drained and shows the triangle, it just means it's too "dead" to power on.
Hmm, that's strange. Were they Samsung Chargers or generic ones?
Maybe it's a certain ROM or something you are using?

That's probably a failing battery. Mine drained while charging. Turnout to be a bad cable. I also had the wall adapter start to do that when it went out. Try a new charger and if that doesn't help it is probably a bad battery.
