Cheap eBay extended battery question..

So I just got this battery hm around Wednesday or Thursday, and I have let it die down to around 10% or less and recharged it overnight several times and I still only see a slight difference in battery life. I am (I would say) a moderate user and I know some people say they get around 2 days on heavy use so I wonder what I'm doing wrong..? I ran the SU command to delete the battery.bin file to wipe the stats while it was fully charged, then let it run the whole day again only getting around 12 hrs (probably would have been shorter, but I have juicedefender running, and I was at work for 5 1/2 hrs of those 12) and then I stuck it on the charger at about 7:45 and then around 12 it was fully charged and I of course turned it off, then back on and it said it was around 80% so I let it charged to full, reset it again then when I turned it back on it said it was full. I took it off the charger and within minutes it dropped 1% every minute or 2 and now around 15 minutes later it's at 86% and I'm not even doing anything, just sitting here with the screen on and Skype is running. I've only drained it/fully charged it a few times maybe 3 or 4 should I just keep doing that or did I just get a crappy battery? It's better life than the stock, so I can't help but think that it's not crappy just not fully calibrated or "worn in" yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I too have a cheapo extended battery from eBay, for the first week I hated it, but finally I actually just let the thing completely die to wear the phone shut down and wouldn't turn back on, then I recharged the battery completely in a standalone charger(also ebay), then put it back in the phone and used normally, charging and discharging and now I can't even dream of going back to the OEM battery, my battery life has much more than doubled. I use my phone like most here with CM7 up to date on nightlys and I'm happy as can be. I also like the ext back on the cheapos much better than the seidio flavor.

So you use the wall charger from eBay to charge it? I don't want to take my battery out to charge it though every night, let alone turn it off because I use it as an alarm clock :X. I've read a whole bunch of different ways of how to charge it in your phone and most people even one of the legitimate companies (Seido) who sells it, says that if you let it go an hr or 2 after the light turns green its good to go, but I don't believe it charges after the light turns green hence why the charging icon on the battery goes away. people may "think" it does but I honestly don't think it does and if anybody can prove otherwise I might have to buy the external charger :/

Yes get an external charger, Preferably 2 batteries and 1 external charger.

I just ordered a wall charger for like $15 I hope this works. I'll just charge my extended battery at night and use my other battery when the extended is charging

I used the external charger just once to "calibrate" the battery it seemed? Since then I've not taken the battery from the phone and just charged it with the phone charger(plugging it in) and I have noticed a huge change in run time.

How do you charge it though now that its calibrated? Do you just leave it on the charger for a few hrs after it hits green or do you have to turn the phone off and back on then stick it on the charger

Yeah, its been about a week and my battery still can't even hold a charge, even if it isn't fully charging. It dies quicker than my stock battery. I told the guy I bought it from, and he said he'd send me a new one so I'm back to the stock battery for now until I get this one next week :/

i have two of those things and they work perfectly. plus, i don't have to kill the phone, open her up and swap batteries. additionally, it'll charge two devices at a time. bonus!

Hmm see that's what I'm trying to get rid of lol having to plug it in all the time. Plus I actually like the bigger back, I personally don't like the thin size of the evo I feel like I could drop it at any time.

How are you guys getting so many hours? I only get like 8 Hours on my heavy use and i bought a 3500mah extended battery wtf? I'm also using the net Netarchy sbc 3.2 more havs and mym rom with setcpu running profiles. What am I doing wrong? I even have juice defender running aswell.

I had my 3500 extended battery and at first it wasnt too good. But after switching to an external charger for all charges and completely letting the battery die out im getting a whole days worth of heavy use with no worries.
No rooting or any battery controls.

So recently I have been wondering if the way I charge my phone could negatively affect it. So I'm wondering when, and how you guys charge your phones?
I personally drain it as much as I can (to dead if possible), then plug it into my wall charge and leave it plugged in overnight. (Since I kill it right before I go to bed)

Nah, just charge whenever you need to. I would avoid completely draining it as that can damage lithium batteries.

At night. Wall charger.
No reason to be worried about negatively affecting your phone by charing it a certain way. It's going to be okay .

He is safe, this isn't a concern as there is internal regulation in the battery pack itself. It cuts out output to prevent completely draining.

Might I add I have the extended 2100mA battery.

I charge when needed (keep a charger nearby at all times) and am only concerned with keeping the battery from dying and leaving it at full charge for more than a couple of hours. Most of the time this results in once a day charging before bedtime but if I'm downloading or tethering all day (recently lost my wifi connection) then I'm looking at 2-4 charges a day. Kinda lame but eh, electricity is cheap.

I charge it when it needs to be charged.

Your practice is bad. The deeper you discharge a battery, the shorter its overall battery life will be. However, it's also not good to keep topping it up, thereby keeping the batter in a perpetual high voltage state. Just use it normally, and charge it at the end of the day.

I hear waiting till level gets to 40% to charge is suggested. Keeps the battery stuff moving properly. Think I read it on CNet

Meh I just charge it whenever and haven't noticed a bad effect on it yet. I put it in and out of car dock multiple times a day. Always charge it at night when sleeping. And if I'm at home all day using nit a lot I might charge it an extra time if I wasn't getting topped off in car dock.

Another question. How is cell service in the majority of users areas?
I have no service at all for at least half the day (school and home). At work I have good service, and I'm only ever in other good service areas for no more than two hours. I finish off the day with an average screen on time of one hour and thirty minutes.

My phone gets about -90dBm on LTE near Chicagoland area at home. At school, my signal drops quite a bit, and I get about 2 bars (No idea what dBm, never checked.) but overall, I usually have great signal and speeds.
I also average about 11 hours of just normal use (for me, checking it quite a bit, playing games and listening to music)

I rarely plug my phone into the wall outlet. I have the pogo pin dock so during the work week I have it sit on the dock all day and it is fully charged when I come home from work. So even with heavy usage at night, I never have to plug it into the wall whether that be after work or when I go to bed. The next day I just charge it back up at work.
The only time I run into battery issues is during the weekend. But since I have two batteries they normally can get me through the whole weekend without having to plug it in to the wall too much (again it depends on usage).

Really depends on the situation. If I need the phone next day and won't have access to charger for sure I'll charge overnight from USB port on one of my comps that is on 24/7. Usually I don't let the battery go below 20% before charging. I'm also always charging the phone when driving since use my GNex for listening to music with Spotify and always force the screen to stay on during those times. Don't want the battery to drain when driving due to having the screen on for long time.

[Q] Confusion regarding the battery cycles

I recently bought a note 3 and I wanted to ask is it okay if I put it into overnight charge even if the battery is 60-70% ?
Does putting it on a charger over long period of times affect the battery life?

battery has protective circuit that will cut off the current when fully charged, since Li-ion batts are very sensitive to overcharging and discharging bellow spec and will get damaged quickly if done so. However, since there is always some possibility of malfunction I would not leave the batt. at home on the charger and left for 2 weeks vacation, but overnight should be fine, probably many people do so.

Thank you Pete for such an elaborate reply. In your opinion would it affect the battery if I put the phone over night every night for, let's say, 3-4 months?

I charge nightly so that when I wake up the phone is fully charged. Seriously, if the battery starts to wear out you can simply replace it. It is removable. Not a big deal.

Buy an extra battery and swap out when it gets down to 15%. Saves wear and tear on the charging port and keeps away extraneous heat from having the phone itself charging the battery.

Imho even if you would charge overnight you wont notice any difference untill your phone is EOL. Even if you would treat your liion battery like a princess it would still die in ~5 years (please correct me if im wrong).
Even though this is only my personal experience and your mileage may differ, but im currently using a HTC HD2 which is still going strong on its first battery. I plug it in almost every night before i go to bed.
Edit: and I must add that really your phone is designed to be used like this. If you only have 70% left and you really need that extra juice the next (few) day(s) because you wont have a charger with you, just plug it in as you go to bed.
If you really go out of your way to rape your battery every day, just buy a new one when its EOL, if you haven't gotten a new device already.

Charging with chargers

I have 2 t989's, one as my phone and the other as a charger (so I can always have a 100% fully charged battery ready to go instead of leaving my phone to charge and missing calls n stuff). I bought a 6ft charging data usb cable cause all my other chargers wer actually draining the battery when plugged in my phone, the very 1st time I plugged in the new cable, man I tell u, I was a happy camper, it actually CHARGED while using my phone, couldn't belive it. But now, 2nd time plugging in the new cable, right back to not even charging. It shows charging and all that but the percentage just goes down. What is going on and can someone please school me right. Thanks.

Are you using the original battery? If so it might be time to get a new one. They are estimated to go downhill after 500 charges. Maybe it just won't hold a charge anymore. I suggest getting the anker 2200mah replacement. It's the same physical size and 10 bucks on Amazon.

[Figured It Out] Between me and my son, we have like 11-12 of those little rectangular boxes that plug into the wall outlet then plug the usb charging cord into those and into the phone to charge, well I switched to a different one with the same new cable I got the other day and WHAM, it actually charges faster than it drains from normal use. Before itd take like 3-4hrs to charge without touching it and drain with 35min of use. Now it charges around a percent every 2 min, and thats even while using it too. The little charging box is the one from my ascend II with my new 12ft charging cable so I can answer the door and check car parts and stuff without having to put my phone down.
Now im soo broke, I cant even pay attention!

I'm glad you got it sorted out. Consider getting that new battery though. Ever since I got a new one I can use my phone for video, GPS, Web browsing, and still have 40 percent battery left by the end of the day. I only charge it when I go to bed. With the original battery I would have to charge it by lunch time. And I just started using the newest paranoid Android rom and I swear it makes my s2 almost as fast as my nexus 5, it amazing.

Ill take that suggestion and give it a shot cause its that time of the year to start working 14hr a day, 7 days a week, till February, and phone charging time and availability will be rare. Thanks.

Is everyone really getting the 50% charge in 30 mins? It feels like I am getting about 1% per 1 min of charge time on average. Not sure if that is normal or I have a defect somewhere? Also, is fast charging safe to use for every charge session or is it meant to be used once in a while for emergencies? Thank you.

yes my phone will go from zero to 100% in an hour no problem when using charger that came with phone

Really? Did it charge like that from the very beginning or did it take a few charges to get to that speed? I think it takes me like 1.5-2 hrs from real low to full charge with fast charge enabled.

yup and as long as i can remember it has always done it. It goes stupid fast. went from 30% to full in under 40 mins thing flies

I used to get those insanely fast charge times; however, recently my phone has been charging slower (with fast charging on). Not only that, but, for some reason, the original wall adapter stopped working twice now. The first time it freaked me out because I thought my phone was messed up, but it turned out that everything was working except the adapter. Then later, I found out that if I reboot my phone with the adapter plugged into the wall, the charger will magically start working again! This worked for one or two charges. Today, I found that my phone was, again, charging extremely slow. Not only that, but my phone stopped charging after around 50% and the adapter is broken once more. I've tried the reboot thing three times and it didn't work again T: So now I'm kind of worried my phone might be defective?
Has this happened to anyone else with charging issues?

I haven't ran into anything like that yet. Who is your carrier? Maybe you can take in your charger and battery to get it replaced? Can you try charging with a different quick charging phone or something to narrow down if it's the phone or charger's fault?

Although I am fairly certain that my issue was the wall adapter portion of the charger, I just found it strange that the fast charging function failed to work properly around the same time when my wall adapter started to fail. Hopefully I am right and nothing else was wrong, but I thought that I would say something in-case I was wrong
As for getting it replaced... I bought my Verizon Note 4 at BestBuy off-contract and when I went there, they claimed to not have any in stock. They never really bothered to ask if I wanted to replace it even though I brought all my receipts and junk so I just took that as I wouldn't be getting a replacement haha :crying:
If anything I'll probably end up just buying another fast charger from samsung later, but for now slow charging is fine I guess. The fast charging did make both my device and charger hot, so maybe that was the problem?
edit:
I do not have any other quick charging devices (to my knowledge), but the wall adapter - combined with various other cables - continued to fail with my other phones as well.

Weird, I need like 1.5 hrs to get from 15% to full on fast charge and about 1.75 hrs for 15% to full on slow charge.

i timed my 1st charge. 57 min from 0 to 100. phone turned on and screen off.

Yep, to me that's the best feature. No more battery switching.
I even bought the Verizon vehicle charger with fast charge, and it works just as quick

Do you know if it's safe to use fast charge for every charge up? If it shortens battery life over time, I'd like to know this now and only use fast charge sparingly.

Yes. It shortens battery life. By using the only charger they give you, you essentially cut your battery life in half. It's a conspiracy by Samsung and the makers of the materials used the batteries

Pretty sure that was sarcasm. I'm less sure about your comment, though. ;P

I read it in American Android, first December issue. They did a study. Only way to avoid the battery dissipation was if you only used the fast charger at night, and Sundays after noon, but before 1pm PST. fascinating article. It's amazing what a group of students at Yale who love Android can actually accomplish.

I think I can work around that charging schedule. I am also going to subscribe to that magazine now.
