Virtuous 3.1 combo..... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So last night I installed the new virtuous Rom and custom kernel from Rom manager bc its supposed to have great battery life, well after a full bump charge overnight my phone is already down 5% in just an hour. Anyone know what might be going on, should I find a new Rom/kernel combo?

Are you sure you bump charged the right way?
Also, try the newest leaked HTC kernel.

For one, I believe the Virtuous posts states that since 3.1 is based off of a newer leak of sense, that the newest v4 stock kernel is recommended as the custom kernel is based off the previous release, so that may have some effect.
Secondly, is that really that bad? That comes out to about 20 hours of battery life, which is more than a lot of people get (with a stock battery at least). Of course, if you haven't been using it at all in that hour I guess that's a different story.

The tweaks for battery performance is it has perflock disabled so you can set custom profiles in SetCPU.

Best ROM for battery life?

I need my battery to last a full day with medium use. What is the best ROM/Kernel combination I should use?
i think fresh is supposed to be the best battery wise...but the negative is that you have to use its kernel. and its kernel doesnt allow overclocking/underclocking with apps such as setcpu and it also has the 30fps cap.
but if battery is what you need go for it. i also say go for it if you've never flashed a kernel to remove the 30fps. if you've never flashed a kernel to move the cap you wouldnt be able to tell the difference

I use Fresh 3.2 w/ netarch's Kernel w/ full 60fps unlock. I used my phone all day and still had 30% by 9pm starting 11am. Facetubing, gtalk, voice calls, internet, rss, time checking.
I've flashed a kernel before, but never knew if I was underclocked/overclocked. I flashed King 7 or whatever.

Most ROMs are built on the same HTC OTA releases (except for CM6, which has worse battery life than HTC OTA's); kernels are usually the thing that differentiates their battery life.
Fresh uses the leaked OTA stock kernel. You can probably flash this kernel to any regular OTA based rom.
...but the HTC Kernel has NOTHING on Backed Snacks Kernel #6. Go read the Baked Snacks thread thread. The battery life is literally ridiculous with Kernel #6.
Could I use the BSK #6 with Fresh?
Ok I went to the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701685
And the link for Kernel 6 is not there, only 1-5
Dude, it might be the booze talking, but you got this thread on lock down. I couldn't have said it better than myself, what other dev has both a sick ROM and a sick Kernel like its nothing? I am still surprised dudes leaked his stuff because he gave all that stuff up no questions. And that is saying a lot because other dev's have better rom's with stock kernels. but the combo's and choices hero comes out with is what makes android android

You can underclock the kernel included in Fresh. And I do not see a point in OCing for 12%. The 1Ghz is plenty.

Umm sorry my cm6 battery life is great I get avg 22-25 hours per charge with medium use far more than I have gotten with any sense rom besides baked snacks. Om testing the new flipz rom for a few days since i hear great things about the kernal
from the fade
In my opinion:
If you do not need 4G, CyanogenMod v6 with Snap kernel v7.5 would be your best bet.
If you do need or want 4G, Fresh EVO v3.2.0.0 would be your best bet.
Of all the sense roms i've tried, baked snacked seemed to have the best battery life of them all even beating out fresh 3.2 imo

So Baked Snack Roms Nd Kernals Are the best battery life? I switched from his baked snacks 1.2.15 because it was missing vital features but how's the battery life on his latest 1.7 updated version is anyone using that rom nd kernal?

Leave your wifi on all day connected to wherever you are. It's the 3g data that uses much of the power. I keep my work and my job's wifi remembered and get 20 hrs on a charge with medium/heavy use on stock 2.2. If no access to wifi most of the day, this won't help you.

The 30 FPS limit and SetCPU are two different things. SetCPU will allow you to overclock/underclock your phone's CPU. The 30 FPS limit is a video limitation and will need a kernel to remove.
I'm currently running Baked Snack 1.7 and I believe his stock kernel. I get about 14-15 hours with medium/heavy use.
Will be checking out kernel #6 later today.

[Q] Sprint Lover's Rom..Best Kernal for it?

Go Here for his kernels. I use Netarchy Toastmod - 4.3-cfs-havs-more-sbc and so far it's worked amazing on the various ROMs I've used (including Sprint Lovers) but it's worked best for me on Myn's ROMs.

No, and no
Don't use SetCPU with a havs kernel. If you go with one of his nohavs kernels then by all means use SetCPU as you wish. Another thing, just from my personal experience (though it may be different for your phone) the CFS kernels work far better than the BFS kernels. There's a guide around here that explains the difference.
As far as SBC goes, I haven't had any issues yet. I've been using a battery monitor to watch what's going on with my battery and haven't seen anything wrong with it. Another thing I do, just as a small precaution, is not let the phone charge 6-8 hours over-night. I'll let it charge to 100% then let it sit for about 2-3 more hours and call it quits. Don't know if that really does anything, but it makes me feel better so eh.
I know the military (I'm in the Army) uses Lit-ion batteries and trickle charges them without having any of them blow up/fry, however they do lose their ability to hold a charge over time. The fact that they do it, and the only problem has been lifespan of the battery is what convinced me to try an SBC kernel. Just choose whichever you feel comfortable with. It's all preference really.

I've been using that one with no-sbc and it's worked great with the conservative profile. HAVS just deals with what voltage the processor uses at any given time/frequency so you can indeed use setcpu with it. It's the kernels with the built in smartass governor or ROMs using other battery tweaking scripts that don't always work well with setcpu.
And trust me, the military does not trickle charge their li-ions and they only run them at 4.10 volts to extend their life (depending on battery, always less than volts than their commercial counterparts). This I know for certain.
Anyone have a link to the stock kernel
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Guys quick question, with the above mentioned kernel. What frequency does if use when you turn off the screen? I want if to use the lowest possible, does the kernel do it automatically or should I use something like the overlook widget?
Also, can someone please provide instructions how to update the kernel, I haven't looked at the link yet so If there's instructions there that fine.
Thanks
wifi errors
i just flashed to netarchy kernel to my evo. cfs, havs no sbc. when i try to connect to wifi it says error. i used kernal manager to flash the kernal. is there anything i can to do to get the wifi back or do i need to go back to the stock kernel. i am running sprint lovers ROM. any suggestions.
update. when i flashed manually everything worked fine. maybe the kernel manager program has an issue with wiping the cache. not really sure. just thought i should let everyone know.
I would use the stock #15 HTC Kernel but with SBC. Link is in sec post here..

I've been using netarchy 4.3.4 cfs more havs aggressive sbc with no problems. Amazing battery life and very responsive.
Netarchy's kernels are very stable,if you're up for it try a sbc kernel, great battery life.

i was just reluctant to try an sbc because of the horror stories i have heard about frying the battery. i guess when i feel lucky i will try it.

[Q] Kernel for Miui

Oh that's right, there is a kernel included with Miui. lol Forgot about that. Does it install automatically when you install Miui, or is there something separate you have to do? I am a Miui noob and just want to make sure I do everything right. And has it improved battery life? That's why I am asking about the kernels.
Guess I'll keep Tiamat on the back burner for now.
Thanks for the response.

No problem! Yeah, it installs along with MIUI. Give it a few days, I think your friend will like it. I'm running it underclocked to 800MHz on the stock kernel and it's smooth as butter
I flashed chads incredikernal. One thing I don't like about the stock kernel is the charge speed. I am currently at 11 hours 19 minutes with 36% remaining on stock Inc battery. I don't mess with any settings, I let it do it's thing.

Well, if you charge overnight, then that really isn't that big an issue. But I will definitely put that on my list of kernels to try if my friend isn't satisfied with the Miui one.

I've tried Chad's incredikernel and it was awful. Been using Tiamat for the past couple days. I'm gonna be going back to the included stock kernel that came with MIUI tomorrow. I've gotten the best battery life out of that one. I think it'd be worth it to try out each kernel on your own phone for a couple days. Some kernels may work better on certain phones than others.

Also if you are playing with kernels and want to go back to MIUI stock it is the Official CM7.0 version1. Can be downloaded from kernel manager lite(free) in market. Invisiblek version4 is nice to, its based off CM7.1 version2 with smartass added.
Remember when trying new kernels for best results.. Charge until green, then boot into recovery, then advanced and wipe battery stats, then power off and let charge until green and good to go. This gets the results without waiting 3 or 4 days of charging. Also you wont see the unplug and go from 100% to 83% in 15 minutes.

Charge the phone to 100%
Turn it off. The LED will turn red again, wait for it to turn back to green.
Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
Reboot, then unplug.

2 Days with what kind of use? I don't have an extended battery and as long as I didn't used the phone for anything other than a phone the battery was pretty good. If I tried to do anything that needed the display open...internet, angry birds, whatever....it wouldn't last an hour. Didn't matter whether I had auto brightness set or not. Went to San Antonio over the weekend turned the brightness all the way down on the plane (at night) and it still didn't last an hour. Had to use my wife's Epic! I used hers for an hour doing the same thing and only lost 10%. I'm currently attempting EnergyROM...so far it doesn't seem any better just using the kernel it comes with. Sorry I'm no help, I gave up on Synergy.
I wanna know too !
I ran Synergy for a while and achieved excellent battery life. But, synergy is becoming outdated and not being currently developed. If you like synergy, strongly recommend switching to MikG 2.61, its a 2.1 + 3.0 sense rom. Definitely a superior rom thats updated and development ongoing. Battery life is better, and rom is faster and much smoother. Not bashing synergy, both roms are personal choice, but try MikG.

Best ROM ever for battery life?

Using froyo sense 1.0 roms... with Lou's #8 kernel, that was my most battery efficient rom-kernel combination.

The other day I went through 5 different roms including yours, that's not the 2 I went through on my transformer... I'm cooling down the flashaholism.
But you probably know by now that a good flash cycle is gonna kill about 10% of battery at a time. Try dropping your screen brightness down to 15% i did that and finally got it to be <50% of where my battery was going.
