Best ROM ever for battery life? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to get more battery life out of my Inc. What ROM gave the best battery life? Froyo, GB or ICS. I will flash any one that gives me the most time to use it.

Using froyo sense 1.0 roms... with Lou's #8 kernel, that was my most battery efficient rom-kernel combination.
I run vanilla(GB)/incredikernel now, and with a lot more of customization, I am close-but-not-quite as efficient as froyo sense/Lou's #8.

None of Lou's links work anymore. I may try the Froyo Incredikernel. Did you ever use that?

Right now I'm on hour 20 of my battery and still at 70% on GB Inc-Deck with 11/03 incredikernel. Granted its been light use but i did have a 30 minute phone call with the gf in there.
Also Stock+ had the best sense rom battery life ive seen.
Just make sure you can use SmartassV2/InteractiveX/Intellidemand with your kernel. helped me out a lot
Edit: The froyo incredikernel with Skyraider was pretty slick too but i havent used that combo in months

I've been using my own ROM with Interactivex and I can get maybe 10 hours out of it. I'm a flashaholic anyways, so I'll probably end up trying everything

The other day I went through 5 different roms including yours, that's not the 2 I went through on my transformer... I'm cooling down the flashaholism.
But you probably know by now that a good flash cycle is gonna kill about 10% of battery at a time. Try dropping your screen brightness down to 15% i did that and finally got it to be <50% of where my battery was going.

Thanks. I've been running Skyraider 4.2/Incredikernel today. Battery life has been better. I'm trying Lou #8 now to see how that runs.

Kernel suggestions?

Here is the situation, I appreciate any feedback. I'm running Remptive Revolution with the Distinction 1.49 theme on it, I flashed over to one of ziggy's kernels not too long ago and it seems like it rips my battery up. I usually have it around 1.15 on demand in SetCPU with profiles set to 384max when screen off, and 768 max when below 50% and 691 below 30%. It seems like the original ROM kernel was wicked fast but I didn't get a good chance to test out the battery life. I've tried a few different kernels and I'm considering going back to one of the Hydra kernels, I feel like they haven't done me wrong. I'm just looking for a good solid kernel that will give me solid battery and good performance, I know I won't get the best of both worlds, but I'd prefer good battery life. Also, pro/cons/purpose of wiping battery stats? I can't seem to find any info about it.
I really like chads kernels. His newest one an oc to 1.113 and is faster then any other kernel ive ever used with really good battery life. (ive only tested the battery life at stock speeds.) And the purpose of wiping battery stats is to let your phone recalibrate the battery so basically you can get the best battery life. ( i believe at least)

Installing now. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have an update later on and we'll see where we stand.
The reason I'm hesitant to use KingKlicks is because of a constant bootloop I ran into. And Ziggy was just cool, got some really good quadrant scores on it, but it just ran through battery like nothing. Anyway, thanks again! I'm excited!
I've been using Heyitslou new kernel and battery life is the best since I've owned this phone. I'm also using his Redemptive Revolution ROM.

If you use aosp roms then I would go with invisiblek #17. It's the best that I've found thus far.

Best kernel i have used by far for cm6
I wiped battery stats a few days ago in recovery, and literally every app on my phone started force closing. I had to restore from a backup, and when I did, every app acted like it was the first time I ever loaded it. Had to set up EVERYTHING again. Do as you will, but the ONLY thing I did to cause that garbage was wipe my battery stats. I'd love better battery life too, but I think the software should be capable of relearning your power cycle of a battery if you replace the battery. Can't stay one way forever.. or at least it shouldn't.
does anyone know where I can download KXK #3 or one of his other kernels? I have tried to find them on this site and the ROM manager. Even google's top results are just sending me to theads about the kernels but none have links to the kernel itself. I am going to try using it to get my battery life extended since I really don't mess with my DINC much besides angry birds (addict for life).
Thanks,
JrdnThms
There is a kernel thread floating around here somewhere it has them. I'm on my phone so I can't link but its called the official kernel thread I believe

[Q] 2.1 and 2.2 roms

Does 2.2 provide better battery life than a 2.1 rom + UV kernel?
Better question...for the guys who've had the 2.1 roms + undervolted kernels and are now on 2.2...which was better? I really want to know about just battery life but the more you provide the better.
Sorry if this has been posted up, I didnt really search so I expect and welcome the flaming. I will be searching after I post this though and if I can gather enough info that helps me out, I'll beg for this thread to be deleted.
Honstley, stock 2.2 gave me slightly less battery life than epic experience 2.1 with pheonix kernel and more than stock 2.1 but I'm currently running midnight and have run every bonsai rom as well and the battery life on these are amazing, I get about 14 hours on a charge and that is litening to music for 8 hours straight while I'm at work. I can't tell you aout the other dk28 roms since I've only ran bonsai and midnight but they give me great battery life and I don't think I could stand to go back to 2.1 now

Thank you thank you I knew as soon as I went back to 2.1 someone would respond >.< but its all good. 8 hours straight of music is what I like to read because thats very close to what I pull in. 2.2 has some great UI changes over 2.1 and on Bonsai I got about 14 hours on a charge as well under perfect conditions and but daily it was an avg at around 12 so I appreciate this post a lot. I've never ran 2.1 for long, as soon as I got this phone I just put on 2.2 so I never got to see what it had to offer so I guess I'll give it a go. I really just want the added battery life.
Going from noobnls 2.1 rom with different kernals, stock with noobnls kernal, now to bonsai, I say its pretty close to the same on some days 2.2 last forever that's if I'm not hands all over it playing with all the awesome 2.2 feutures which has been since last weekend once I get bored of the upgrade I say 2.2 bonsai is better

i get better battery life on dk28 than di18.
coolness. i've been back on 2.1 roms, and I haven't wanted to change back to dk28 because of battery life myself. but a lot of people are liking Bonsai, so that might be the next thing i try before official 2.2 drops.

yeah, Bonsai was really really damn good. That thing was on roids or something. I tried another 2.2 rom for today and it was just terrible...one thing I dont like is how they are all themed up >.< But I got that stock theme from that huge theme thread so its all good, but still....
The reason I like bonsai is its clean of no extra themes it apps its like the mighty rom of the epic and everything works amazing no bugs!!! I am very satisfied with it til next week when supposedly froyo official is coming

Battery life is all relative to what your are doing with your phone.
So many people like to tell everyone how they got XX hours on XXX Rom with "moderate use" or "heavy usage", etc..
It's all relative, moderate to some would be heavy to others, etc.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
The only thing I would add is that, for me, Bonsai does a wonderful job at minimizing battery use while the phone is idle (ie sleeping). If the screen is off it seems like it will last forever!
Best thing you could do is load up a Rom and try it out for a few days.
No one's phone usage is the same as yours so just try for yourself.

So far for me the best I have found ( 300+ texts 2+ hours phone calls lots of internet both on and off wifi/4g with screen on time (auto bright) averaging 7hrs a day) is CWM 3 DK28 EXT 4 viperrom 4.0.3 average 16 hours before low battery alert and Im pretty sure I have tried them all with the exception of cyanogenmod and for that I will wait till the team says its stable.
EDIT: for some reason I NEVER have a time without signal below or above 50% even if I check it 2 mins after unplug but that dosent seem to drain battery like it did on DI18 (average tw/os there was 30-40% same usage but only 8-9 hrs until phone off from dead battery)

[Q] Kernel for Miui

I just flashed the updated Miui ROM onto my friends Incredible (I am improving it for him) and was wondering which kernel would work best with it. I have heard that Tiamat is one to consider, but I don't know if it works the best with Miui.
Thanks in advance!!!!!
Tiamat is great, but I've been really happy with the included kernel. YMMV

Oh that's right, there is a kernel included with Miui. lol Forgot about that. Does it install automatically when you install Miui, or is there something separate you have to do? I am a Miui noob and just want to make sure I do everything right. And has it improved battery life? That's why I am asking about the kernels.
Guess I'll keep Tiamat on the back burner for now.
Thanks for the response.

No problem! Yeah, it installs along with MIUI. Give it a few days, I think your friend will like it. I'm running it underclocked to 800MHz on the stock kernel and it's smooth as butter
I flashed chads incredikernal. One thing I don't like about the stock kernel is the charge speed. I am currently at 11 hours 19 minutes with 36% remaining on stock Inc battery. I don't mess with any settings, I let it do it's thing.

Well, if you charge overnight, then that really isn't that big an issue. But I will definitely put that on my list of kernels to try if my friend isn't satisfied with the Miui one.
Thanks!
I've tried Chad's incredikernel and it was awful. Been using Tiamat for the past couple days. I'm gonna be going back to the included stock kernel that came with MIUI tomorrow. I've gotten the best battery life out of that one. I think it'd be worth it to try out each kernel on your own phone for a couple days. Some kernels may work better on certain phones than others.

Interesting. I will definitely try them at one point to see for myself, but it seems that the stock Miui kernel is the way to go. I've been playing with it for 2 days now, and I have seen a noticeable increase in the battery life. I am very pleased.

I always flash Chad's Incredikernal after the MIUI update, but this time I'm test driving the (MIUI) stock kernal to see how battery life really compares after a couple of days. You really can't go wrong either way. But, as posted above, YMMV. Good luck!
Incredikernel #1 with IncrediControl app http://www.incredikernel.com/
I try Tiamat every release but always go back to Incredikernel, Incredikernel is so much smoother. Also better benchmark with all apps and no task kill. Pics for proof!!!!
SetCPU min128/998max @ smartass scaling
Also if you are playing with kernels and want to go back to MIUI stock it is the Official CM7.0 version1. Can be downloaded from kernel manager lite(free) in market. Invisiblek version4 is nice to, its based off CM7.1 version2 with smartass added.
Remember when trying new kernels for best results.. Charge until green, then boot into recovery, then advanced and wipe battery stats, then power off and let charge until green and good to go. This gets the results without waiting 3 or 4 days of charging. Also you wont see the unplug and go from 100% to 83% in 15 minutes.
every phone is different. I have been trying to use incredikernel for months and my phone runs like complete garbage with it. I use tiamat and it blows incredikernel out of the water on my dinc. I have no explanation for this and am hoping one day my phone will accept incredikernel. :-(

Actually, to recalibrate, this is what I'd recommend.
Charge the phone to 100%
Turn it off. The LED will turn red again, wait for it to turn back to green.
Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
Reboot, then unplug.

[Q] Best rom+Kernel to maximize battery life 2.3 :|

i know i know some of you are going to ride my ass for this because there are plenty of other questions asked regarding this.
and if i was using froyo, i'd use ner kernel plus stock sense rom but now that 2.3.4 is out i was hoping to find a rom that would give me the best result on battery life.
i do like the idea of sense look alike roms but i havent found any kernels that would increase my batterylife.
right now i'm on synergy and boy this thing dies fast.
Evervolv has been the most efficient rom i've used but its not sense like
kindly share your thoughts on what you use and what you like and dont like about it. i'd be curious to hear it.

The other ROMS I got great battery life on were the Froyo ROMs, before the GB ports came out. Koni III for sure with NetarchyToast SBC CFS Havs had incredible battery life, VaelPak is a good ROM , too
I wouldn't recommend MIUI if you're looking for decent battery life. I tried it about two months ago and it was just eating up my battery like crazy. Then when I went back to CM7, battery went back to being spectacular again.

If you're getting all those force closes, then I can only think that you're not doing a full wipe as I outlined in my guide and/or you're not giving it a chance to settle on the first boot ups. I could be wrong, but that is usually the case.
If you just want an updated sense, I use Myn's warm z, its sense 2.0. I also run netarchy's latest w/sbc,cfs,havs,more. And recently I use the incredible voltage app to set the actual voltage range.

With WildStang83 Desire Inc HD ROM I go from 440am to 5pm with a single charge and still have like 20-30% left.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253492
And aosp I can't really tell because I don't use aosp (I'm a Sense lover maniac) the only one I used was cyanmod7 nightlies like for a week and the battery life was ok. I had to charge atleast 30-50 minutes during my break time.
Sent From My Optimized HTC Incredibly Dinc
Sense ROMs take up more battery life because their is more going on, but I don't think its that drastic compared to AOSP. I use Nils 2.3/3.0 gingersense and I can normally go till next morning or miday after a charge.
The only AOSP rom I've run was MIUI and I would constantly get 24+hrs and sometimes over a day (1800mah battery).
There's still a lot of tweaks to come on the Sense ROMs so don't expect too much from them at this point in time. Once the GB kernel source is released and we get some custom kernels then the battery life of Sense roms may increase.
MIUI with Chad's Incredikernel will give you ridiculous battery life. I would get over 24 on one charge. That's what I used during Hurricane Irene when the power went out lol

I use Jermaine's In-Sensitive Minimalist. It's kind of a mix between sense and AOSP. Alot of the sense has been removed, but it still kind of has that feel. Love it...very responsive and stable. By the time I get home from work, around 7pm, I still have like 70% battery remaining.

With WildStang83 Desire Inc HD ROM I go from 440am to 5pm with a single charge and still have like 20-30% left.

And aosp I can't really tell because I don't use aosp (I'm a Sense lover maniac) the only one I used was cyanmod7 nightlies like for a week and the battery life was ok. I had to charge atleast 30-50 minutes during my break time.

MIUI with Chad's Incredikernel will give you ridiculous battery life. I would get over 24 on one charge. That's what I used during Hurricane Irene when the power went out lol

+1. I use either MIUI or one of many AOSP ROMs then I flash Chad's incredikernel. When I undervolt the kernel I can almost go two days without needing a charge.
The best battery life I've gotten is with the most recent stable Cyanogenmod 7.
For some reason my battery life is *noticeably* better on MIUI than with CM7. Seems strange but the difference is there.
of the few
of the few I've tried (gingersense, cm7, and uber), I found NilsP's Business Gingersense to get me the best battery life. Day and a half on one charge, mobile network on 80% of that time...
