[Q] Battery replacement warranty question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The HTC battery died the other day and won't take a charge or anything in my phone anymore. I'm using the spares that I purchased off ebay. If I took my phone to a sprint store for a battery replacement do I need to worry about my phone being rooted running snap kernel and cyanogen mod 6 or do I need to go back to stock for everything? I would hope they'd just give me a new battery and not look at my phone at all.

They should just give you one. There were a lot of reports of people with good batteries just walking into stores and asking for an extra one and getting them, no questions asked. Also, it is the same battery as the Hero and TP2, so any Sprint store should have plenty of them.
I just took my phone in for replacement (for other issues), and they thought they could fix it with a battery. They gave me like 4 to try to fix the problem before ever even looking at the phone's software.

Battery replacement from BestBuy

Hey everyone.
Alright so I just got my Evo a few weeks back through BestBuy. Today while I was texting on it, the phone randomly shut off. I figured it was just a random reboot type of deal, but then the phone would never turn back on.
I tried charging the battery and it won't charge so I'm going to assume that it's completely fried. After I came to that assumption, I grabbed my friends batter and slapped it into my phone, and it worked perfectly fine, so it's safe to say that it is the battery and only the battery, not the phone. My battery also didn't work in his phone either
Now my question to you is, since it's still within the 30 days since I got the phone AND I have the Black Tie protection plan, will they give me a new battery no questions asked? Or do they need to boot it back up and inspect the phone also? The reason I ask is because I'm running MIUI and don't have enough time to keep my friends battery to flash a 2.3 ROM. Also I don't want them "inspecting" my phone, and upgrading my phone because I like having root.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys/gals.
Uhm, I'm not 100% on this but you shouldn't have any problem. What I would assume they will do if anything is try powering up on your battery, which won't work, then try plugging it in to charge, which won't work. Get a different battery and if it powers up, they probably won't pay attention after the HTC EVO 4G screen pops up and give you the battery. On the other hand since its a Best Buy I don't know if they will have HTC batteries in stock, they might have the cheaper ones like Radio Shack. Try a Sprint repair center, they would be more likely to have a battery for you. I've gone to Sprint before for various phone issues and twice they didn't know what being rooted was so they didn't even realize it and once, the manager noticed it was rooted, fixed the problem and asked me to root his lol. Good luck.

But they have to replace my battery don't they? Since it's still within the 30 days? Even if not, I have a $50 dollar gift card, and the last time I was at BestBuy I saw they had a 1700 extended battery that didn't require an extended back. Has anyone heard anything about that battery?
Radio Shack wouldn't be able to replace my battery since I didn't get the phone from them originally, right?
The other thing to my advantage is that I know most of the guys that work at the phone department, so they don't really care that it's rooted.
Well yes they would be obligated to replace the battery for you, what I a saying though is that Best Buy will not likely carry EVO batteries in stock. They will probably have extended batteries or replacement non HTC batteries, I'm saying that you will probably have better luck getting an HTC original replacement battery from Sprint, reguardless of where you bought the phone from its within the Sprint 30 warranty and HTC 1 year warranty, so you don't HAVE to go to Best Buy, go to anywhere that sells Sprint phones, manufacturer warranty works anywhere...

I understand now. I went in to BestBuy and go figure.... The old one worked. It didn't at first, but after a few minutes of them trying it actually kicked in.
I was able to get the extended battery and I only had to pay the difference. I was going to buy that battery anyways before this whole thing happened, so it worked out well.

OEM battery. Who wants mine?

Just destroyed my mytouch4g and had to send it in to the insurance company. Anyone want my battery? It doesn't fit in my new sensation so I have no use for it. Rather let someone make good use of it instead of throwing it away.

Wait so they sent you a sensation as a replacement for the mytouch 4g?
If so Ill be sending mine back as well. Mine went for a swim in the porcelain pool a week or so ago and has not been the same since.
In fact I went to two t-mo stores today looking for batteries (We no longer carry this phone or its accessories is what I was told) and even went to verizon to try and get a thunderbolt battery since they are the same (only had fat battery which wouldnt work because I wouldnt have the right back).
I ended up ordering a seidio "extended" battery when I got home...wish I would have seen this first.
May I ask how you "destroyed" yours? and did you return it to stock before sending it back?
i could use it mines crappin out
my battery is more than begginning to crap out on me. After a full nights charge, im lucky to get about 30min of talk time before it will just shut off on me. Only to turn back on in 3-5min with a battery level +50% (or so it says). Needless to say i will be buying a new battery in the next 48hrs if im not so fortunate.

dropped mine and the screen exploded because i tried to catch it and just slapped it even harder towards the ground. phone worked fine but the screen was like running your fingers across well a broken piece of glass. called tmobile and go through insurance but they didnt have any in stock so they offered me the mytouch4g slide or the sensation as a replacement as those were the closest match to what i had. and yes i flashed it back to stock and got it s-on before sending it back.

[Q] Replacement Phone Questions

My Battery port on my phone seems to be messed up. The orange light is on to show a charge but it looks like it isn't gaining any juice.
Weird because last night it was charging fine, so I'm not sure what the deal is.
Anyway, I'm wondering how the whole process to try and get a replacement phone works. I have been looking to purchase a new phone anyway, and this is just giving me a better reason to get one.
If anyone has gone through this process before can you please share what you did?
I more or less want to know if I am about to get raped by Big Red or if I am going to need to buy a brand new phone outright.
I am wondering if the script I installed to improve battery life is causing this issue. I actually turned my phone off to see if it would charge up and it is, just EXTREMELY slow.
I am just speculating right now and trying to narrow down the issue. I know charge ports are an issue for this phone, I am just hoping I don't need to go that route.
Try a different charger. Yours may have went bad.
As far as the exchange, do you have insurance? If not how long have you had your phone and where did you buy it? Also did you buy it new or refurb?

I have tried multiple chargers and get the same result. Sometimes it will charge, but most times not.
I have no insurance on in, and it is under a year old. I bought it brand new.
Of it is under a year old then just call Verizon. Tell them your phone won't take charge. They will replace it for free with a manufacture refurbished incredible 2.

I just replaced my phone (it was under one year as well) by calling verizon and telling them it wouldn't charge ... it's a known problem w/ our phones. They replaced it for free (as long as you return your old phone w/in 5 business days). i unrooted and put my phone to s-on again before i returned it. good luck!

I have Burn In, advice?

I have burn in on my S3, it is from a golf GPS app that I use frequently. I used it for about 6 months with no problems, then all of a sudden after 1 round of golf a couple of weeks ago the outlines of the app are intensely burned into my screen. I am not sure I understand why all of the sudden it became an issue, as I did not change any settings prior to the round and used it how I always used it before.
At any rate, I'm still within the year of when I purchased it from AT&T. I called AT&T and they told me my options, please let me know what you think:
1. try to get Samsung to replace (do they cover burn in?)
2. AT&T warranty center will replace with a refurbished (most reasonable option, but I've had really bad experiences with AT&T always replacing the phone with a *more* broken unit than the one it was replacing...so am scared of this)
3. AT&T says I am eligible for an upgrade, so I could get a free S3 from them or get a new S4 and pay upgrade price
4. combination of 2 & 3, get a refurbished to replace my burned in S3, sell on ebay and then upgrade to the S4--maybe someone else will have better luck with a refurb'd item, as they never work for me
What do you guys think?

4 sounds like a good solution. Although, the S4 is like the S3s, pretty much the same phone, with some small upgrades.
You can also try your luck with a refurb and keep your upgrade for something better. Summer is coming = device release.
Got a replacement yesterday. So far, so good. It even seems to work with GPS better than my previous one. Hopefully it lasts!
So had the phone only a few days as a replacement from Att. Tonight it locked up and would not respond to anything and I had to reseat the battery to get it to respond. Think this is a bad sign and should I take it back or give it the full 30 day warranty??

I had a Galaxy 4G that used to do that all the time, the only fix was to reboot it before charging (every couple days). Depending on how much you are willing to pay I think I would go with the S4 option since you are probably only going to get refurbished phones as replacements.

Is there any phone better than the S4 anticipated to come out in the next 9 months or so? Removing the battery every now and then isn't a huge deal, though when I buttoned everything back up and put the case back on, it caused the corners of my Zagg to stretch out a little which is really annoying. I wonder if doing this repeatedly could cause the Zagg to get worse.

If Samsung keeps to it's current strategy, you will probably be looking at the s5 in a little more then 9 months....

HTC 10 Unstable, Unpredictableand crappy battery.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on this crazy phone.
I am experiencing some really erratic behavior and rapid battery drain. My phone will spontaneously reboot at any given moment. Usually when the battery level gets below 50% but not always, I've had it happen at 80% as well. When it reboots it will go into a boot loop and show the battery at 1%. It will boot a few times then shut off until I plug it into a charger and reboot. Then the phone will have to charge from 1% even if it was at 75% when it shut off. Sometimes if I charge it a bit, say up to 30% and then reboot, it will boot back up at 60 or 70%. No rhyme or reason.
When all this started I was running Venom rom and I hadn't updated anything for a long time. I thought maybe something was crossed up so I flashed the stock RUU and re-rooted with the intent of re-installing the current version of Venom. I flashed Venom and got everything set up again....Bam...out of the blue a reboot. This time I lost all of my settings and tweaks in Venom, it seemed like it reverted to a fresh install. I went through all of the tweaks again and set everything back up only to have it happen again.
I have tried all of the battery reset tricks i.e., deleting battery stats. Holding down both volume buttons and the power button etc. Nothing works.
I have wiped everything except the external SD card in TWRP and then again when I installed a new ROM. I have done this numerous times. The phone seems to run a little better now but it still will random reboot and show discharged. Only get about a half a day out of the battery if I'm lucky.
I am currently running the latest version of TWRP 3.2.1-0 and stock rom firmware version 2.41.605.36.
This thing is driving me nuts. I have tried pretty much I know how to do with my limited abilities. Anyone have any ideas?
Sooo....as soon as I posted this thread I found this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/random-shut-boot-loops-t3690547. I'm not sure how I missed it in my searches. I have some reading to do LOL.

I tried that as well. LeeDroid didn't change a thing. At this point it really seems like a hardware issue. I have an email sent to HTC to see what they have to say.
Well to be honest I was getting a crapy battery life while using the car charger or charge it more frequently, but I am using In home Aukey Q3 and in work stock, these results are captured before writing the reply
Any lint or anything else stuck in the charge port?
I think you need to do an RUU, and run your device completely stock. Are you s-on or s-off? Do you use magisk or just old school supersu for root?
You need to go back stock anyway, I'd definitely start the warranty replacement process and you'll want to be stock for that anyway so if you confirm it does it bone stock, you'll know it's a hardware issue, and you've got it ready to send back.
Just make sure HTC knows how frustrated you are to have invested in an HTC device and having a problem like this with a device that hasn't even been out that long yet. It definitely should be within the period that HTC will take care of you as a paying customer. It's a lot cheaper to keep you as an HTC customer than it is to go make a new customer to replace you.

Unfortunately my warranty expired in July so there is no point starting a replacement process. I have been on chat with 2 different HTC people. HTC will not help me....period. They will not even acknowledge that they have a problem. I sent them the link I posted above with everyone else having the same exact issue. I made it really clear to HTC that I will not buy another one of their phones. Too bad, I have had nothing but HTC since the Thunderbolt. I won't have another one.
I have wiped all partitions including the internal sd card via TWRP at least 3 times. I have flashed the lastest Verizon RUU firmware 2.41.605.36 at least 3 times (running that now). Flashed an updated version of Venom. Flashed the latest LeeDroid, complete wipes for everything. Tried holding down the power button along with both volume buttons to reset battery stats. Tried dice and chicken bones LOL. Nothing corrects the problem. I thought it got a little better but I was wrong.

Missed the first part of your post....I'm S-off. I have gone both ways with Magisk and SuperSu. Currently (and I seem to prefer) SuperSU.
Hard not to come to the conclusion that your battery is bad
I found a shop that is going to try and help me replace the battery. They were hesitant due to the possibility of breaking the screen during disassembly. I ordered a new screen to go along with the new battery. If this doesn't fix it I guess I just tossed another $100.00 bucks in the trash.

I had the exact same issue as you! A repair shop replaced my battery for 70€ and now it's working perfect again. I also tried different custom ROMs and nothing worked.
I've been having the same issues and I finally decided I've had enough. I'm going to try to revive my 10 by replacing the battery with the part here. I have a heat gun and phone repair kit already but just to be extra safe, I ordered a replacement screen/LCD assembly as well from here. I really hope I don't break my original screen because I'm not convinced this replacement is actually OEM. I don't want to risk sacrificing screen quality by having to swap my original out with a replacement. We'll see how it goes when I get all the parts in about a week and a half. Wish me luck!
Got my 10 back from a local repair shop after replacing the battery Runs like new again. Really happy the new battery fixed it back up. Pretty disappointed that HTC would do absolutely nothing to help me get the phone fixed.
