Has anyone had their phones repaired by HTC? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I sent in my broken phone with a shattered screen and cracked LCD. It's costing 140$ for the whole deal; has anyone else had this done to their phones?

I havnt heard of anyone doing such, taking the evo apart and replacing the screen/digitizer isnt too awful difficult for one to do on their own. Theires a youtube video with an excelent teardown. But it states a t4 torx to remove the 6 screws but mine were t5

I mailed mine in last thursday 10/14 for a non-responsive touch screen only on the right edge (faulty digitizer I assume). I un-rooted and mailed it in. I told the guy on the phone about my hairline power button crack and he said that wasn't covered by the warranty and they might have to charge me ~$140 to fix it. Called yesterday and they have replaced the screen and it is enroute via fedex should be here tomorrow 10/20 and they didn't charge my anything! I would have been pretty pissed if they had because the faulty digitzer is in no way due to customer abuse.
But yeah, a broken/cracked screen can probably be attributed to customer use and therefore isn't covered by the warranty

I had my touch pro repaired thru them and they repaired all the cosmetic stuff along with the unresponsive keyboard which was the reason I initiated the RMA.
I'm about to send in my Evo, the charging/usb port works intermittently
Frickin sucks goats nutz LOL

HTC Desire Screen Replacement

Right so long story cut short, my beloved Desire has decided to stop working after being dropped from a small height by a friend, the glass has cracked, the LCD is bleeding, while the digitiser seems to work fine still. Is there anywhere recommended that will replace it for me? Or any decent site selling OEM parts?
Cheers
i have also had an accident with mine. the lcd screen seems to be ok but the glass cover cracked in a million placed. took it to a few repair places and are all pretty confident it can be fixed. only problem is the parts for the phone are not out yet as its so new. have been told it could be up 2 a month. contacted htc but they cant give me a quote, i have to send it to them first.
bump, might take a few pictures of it for your entertainment
Sounds like your friends owes you a new Desire!
Cracked Screen... ME TOO!
I too have had the unfortunate displeasure of seeing my brand new desire drop to the ground on my tiled floor bathroom and land in just the right position fo the screen to crack. Have insurance but as I had just that day switched to a new phone and contract with orange hadn't switched the IEMI number over with my insurer. Long story but didn't realise I had to switch as I have never claimed AS THE INSURANCE COMES WITH MY BANK ACCOUNT NEEDLESS TO SAY INSURANCE DOESNT COVER IT FOR 15 DAYS AFTER YOU REGISTER THE EMEI NUMBER OF THE NEW PHONE... so beware folks honest isn't always the best policy and sometimes having insurance with your phone provider can be a better option!..
No new screens available from any UK repAIRER YET SO WILL HAVE TO WAIT IT OUT WITH A HALf visible (but still working) screen.
I just joined your club.
I dropped my desire just 15 minutes ago onto some concrete stuff.
The glass screen is totally obliterated.....but the phone still works.
So 2 questions.
- Can I but just the glass part and replace it ? the underneath screen is ok
- How much can it cost ? ( if it's possible in europe...if not in canada or usa)
Both display and digitizer can be currently found on the internet, they're not cheap though...

They say LCD, I'd say it's a mistake, not sure though.
Are you kidding?
If it's just 60$ then it's very very cheap......
I will try to buy it.
Ps:
read this : http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-tear-down
it's a photo tear-down and re-assembly guide on how to replace the broken glass digitiser
howzit guys
i see on the net that theres a new desire coming out and its got a lcd screen coz of the bad visibility in sunlight of our amoled screens
where can we get these lcd screens - mayb its better to fit a lcd onetime instead of amoled again
I also have a broken display.
And last week I ordered a new one on ebay. I got it today, but when I installed it, it wasn't working. Only a faded green light on the right side of the screen.
The phone booted ok (vibration at the beginning and the sound when it's booted - pin request).
Then I took the new screen out and began an close inspection. I was amazed that I found a freaking hole in the display (the original does not have one, obviously).

(there is an tireless w810i behind the screen with led on, u can clearly see the light shining through the display)
I'm going to send the pictures to the seller, and see what he says about it..
Anyone had similar experience? Or any explanation about the holes? (there actually two, second one is right on the edge, can't take a photo of that one..)

Oil-like blot on the display

Hi,
has anybody encountered this?
Few days ago, I noticed my display is not "clean" anymore, it has a colorful oil-like blot on itself. The blot does not cover the whole display area, but has an almost
uniform 1 cm thick padding..that means the blot area is a smaller area in the middle of display.
By colour I mean a visual effect that resembles a drop of oil/gasoline in water on the street.
This happened to my sprint tp2 and soon after the touch screen stopped working. I just replaced it by buying a replacement screen/top housing on ebay. Quick an painless really, no need to fiddle with the digitalizer and all that mess. I hope this isn't the case for you but expect the worse my friend. Best wishes man.
You,ve probably got the dreaded Newton Rings. I had my screen replaced about 2 months ago by HTC for the same reason. Luckily I had a month left on my warranty so i got if fixed completely FOC. My warranty has now been extended to run out next month.
Update:
My newton rings got really bad a while ago, the screen stopped function at all.
I registered my TP2 directly to a Czech servicing company (I am Slovakian)..
Now comes the interesting part.
1) They sent a courier for the phone and it took them a veery long 3 business days to repair and send it back by a courier, directly to my office. The courier man had a specialy designed bag for protecting the phone on pickup.
2) They did not care at all about my forgetting to reflash stock SPL
3) Nobody asked them for this, but besides the digitizer, they also "repaired" (read replaced) the buttons, the silver border, the display and the rails in which the upper part moves. For free.
4) They flashed a Slovakian stock ROM for me..Who could have know, that know that such a thing existed

Scren replacement

So my friend dropped her phone in the rain (go ahead and gasp, I know I did) and cracked the screen. luckily there was no water damage to the phone but she now has a spider web screck going across the screen. I looked on ebay and see plenty of replacement screens but no where does it mention the digitizer. every sammy I've owned since the og GS has had the digitizer and screen connected. can anyone verify if this is the same or has sammy changed their ways?

Glitchy Digitizer simple fix

Having used my atrix for over a year now and the more scratches i get on my screen the more unresponsive the screen becomes.. couple that with oily/dirty hands and the screen response just go crazy all the time.
Everytime that happens I notice i get better response after wiping the screen clean and toggling the sleep switch.
Then i tried installing one of those matte screen protector around $2.- on wher i am, problem solved, no more glitchy touch screen response

Wish it was that simple. The plain fact of the matter is.. Motorola screwed up and put in a low grade digitizer (2 point multi touch) with bad manufacturing process meaning that most Atrix out there will have problems with connections between the mainboard and digitizer causing glitches, problems with sensing and the capacitance buttons not working.
The atrix digitizer is great coupled with the fact custom roms here make the phone support 5 touch.
Atrix digitizer can go up to 8 but gets buggy.
I had touch issues only after having a broken digitizer (dropped it) for 3months.
And yea I noticed for awhile now turning off screen resets touch.
Your screen protectors adhesive probably sealed the scratches temporarily which has been linked to the issue that and stops your greasy fingers tampering with it.

Actually, a tech, told me that the Atrix has a factory problem, and its not a bad production of the digitizer, its a fault with the Motherboard, causing it to damage the digitizer. Thats why it gets fixed when you put your phone to sleep, because its the board's fault, not digitizer's. Sooner or later, the board will cause a dead stripe on the digitizer, with no fix available except for replace the digitizer, and then if you do, after a couple of months, it will damage the new digitizer. At my local repair shop, they won't carry that digitizer anymore because when they used to, customers that fixed their Atrix would come back with a dead stripe and say that they sold a bad/low quality product, but the truth is that its not the digitizer fault.
So you are telling us that when the first digitizer issue appear we should seriously think about replacing the whole phone instead repairing it? (Obviously if warranty is void)
Yes, make sure to carry the insurance on atrix first gen models. They are all faulty. I had the problem with the digitizer/mobo that developed into the lines where nothing would be touch sensitive on the line. Our was like a break in the middle of the screen and a multi touch test app showed the phone thought two fingers were being used if you tried to Swype on the line or if you Swyped across the line it would drop you touch like you lifted your finger at the line. This made the phone touch screen useless and the insurance sent me atrix 2 as a replacement.

Both are correct.
Non reinforced mini flex ribbon on a flimsy connection mounted on another connection. Many points of failure. However a fresh oem digitizer, good repair, dab of silicone, and not dropping your phone can fix most of the issues before they happen.

I've replaced my digitizer since I bought it broken. I don't seem to have the same issues so I agree with the last comment.
I have two motorola atrix and both have fantastic touch.. One I used with broken digitizer for over a year without any issues whatsoever. Recently replaced the digitizer on the broken one, and still going strong.

Screen replacement

Hello ,
Yesterday I managed to drop my Note 2 and crack the front glass of the handset. The screen itself is totally un-damaged.
After looking around on the internet it became quickly apparent that 3rd party repair centre's don't really want to touch the handset. I have called Samsung and they have sent me out a jiffy bag to send the handset back to them to get repaired. Obviously this will not come under manufacturers warrenty and I will be charged for the replacement. Does anyone know how much the front glass (not the screen) cost to replace? I saw someone mentioned around $180 however I live in the UK. Any guide lines on how much I will have to pay to get them to replace the broken glass would be great so I dont get a nasty surprise.
Thanks,
J
Mine dropped from two feet and hairline cracked across the whole screen. I bought the full assembly LCD/digitizer. Did the repair per LE55ONS. AOK now. afterwards, I tried to pry apart the digitizer glass. In my Note II it is bonded with transparent gum covering the entire LCD. No way to replace only the digitizer on my version of the Note II
Mine was $249 USD
