So my friend dropped her phone in the rain (go ahead and gasp, I know I did) and cracked the screen. luckily there was no water damage to the phone but she now has a spider web screck going across the screen. I looked on ebay and see plenty of replacement screens but no where does it mention the digitizer. every sammy I've owned since the og GS has had the digitizer and screen connected. can anyone verify if this is the same or has sammy changed their ways?

Right so long story cut short, my beloved Desire has decided to stop working after being dropped from a small height by a friend, the glass has cracked, the LCD is bleeding, while the digitiser seems to work fine still. Is there anywhere recommended that will replace it for me? Or any decent site selling OEM parts?
Cheers
i have also had an accident with mine. the lcd screen seems to be ok but the glass cover cracked in a million placed. took it to a few repair places and are all pretty confident it can be fixed. only problem is the parts for the phone are not out yet as its so new. have been told it could be up 2 a month. contacted htc but they cant give me a quote, i have to send it to them first.
bump, might take a few pictures of it for your entertainment
Sounds like your friends owes you a new Desire!
Cracked Screen... ME TOO!
I too have had the unfortunate displeasure of seeing my brand new desire drop to the ground on my tiled floor bathroom and land in just the right position fo the screen to crack. Have insurance but as I had just that day switched to a new phone and contract with orange hadn't switched the IEMI number over with my insurer. Long story but didn't realise I had to switch as I have never claimed AS THE INSURANCE COMES WITH MY BANK ACCOUNT NEEDLESS TO SAY INSURANCE DOESNT COVER IT FOR 15 DAYS AFTER YOU REGISTER THE EMEI NUMBER OF THE NEW PHONE... so beware folks honest isn't always the best policy and sometimes having insurance with your phone provider can be a better option!..
No new screens available from any UK repAIRER YET SO WILL HAVE TO WAIT IT OUT WITH A HALf visible (but still working) screen.
I just joined your club.
I dropped my desire just 15 minutes ago onto some concrete stuff.
The glass screen is totally obliterated.....but the phone still works.
So 2 questions.
- Can I but just the glass part and replace it ? the underneath screen is ok
- How much can it cost ? ( if it's possible in europe...if not in canada or usa)
Both display and digitizer can be currently found on the internet, they're not cheap though...

They say LCD, I'd say it's a mistake, not sure though.
Are you kidding?
If it's just 60$ then it's very very cheap......
I will try to buy it.
Ps:
read this : http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-tear-down
it's a photo tear-down and re-assembly guide on how to replace the broken glass digitiser
howzit guys
i see on the net that theres a new desire coming out and its got a lcd screen coz of the bad visibility in sunlight of our amoled screens
where can we get these lcd screens - mayb its better to fit a lcd onetime instead of amoled again
I also have a broken display.
And last week I ordered a new one on ebay. I got it today, but when I installed it, it wasn't working. Only a faded green light on the right side of the screen.
The phone booted ok (vibration at the beginning and the sound when it's booted - pin request).
Then I took the new screen out and began an close inspection. I was amazed that I found a freaking hole in the display (the original does not have one, obviously).

(there is an tireless w810i behind the screen with led on, u can clearly see the light shining through the display)
I'm going to send the pictures to the seller, and see what he says about it..
Anyone had similar experience? Or any explanation about the holes? (there actually two, second one is right on the edge, can't take a photo of that one..)
I sent in my broken phone with a shattered screen and cracked LCD. It's costing 140$ for the whole deal; has anyone else had this done to their phones?
I havnt heard of anyone doing such, taking the evo apart and replacing the screen/digitizer isnt too awful difficult for one to do on their own. Theires a youtube video with an excelent teardown. But it states a t4 torx to remove the 6 screws but mine were t5
I mailed mine in last thursday 10/14 for a non-responsive touch screen only on the right edge (faulty digitizer I assume). I un-rooted and mailed it in. I told the guy on the phone about my hairline power button crack and he said that wasn't covered by the warranty and they might have to charge me ~$140 to fix it. Called yesterday and they have replaced the screen and it is enroute via fedex should be here tomorrow 10/20 and they didn't charge my anything! I would have been pretty pissed if they had because the faulty digitzer is in no way due to customer abuse.
But yeah, a broken/cracked screen can probably be attributed to customer use and therefore isn't covered by the warranty
I had my touch pro repaired thru them and they repaired all the cosmetic stuff along with the unresponsive keyboard which was the reason I initiated the RMA.
I'm about to send in my Evo, the charging/usb port works intermittently
Frickin sucks goats nutz LOL
I craked my G2's screen (Fell asleep on the couch with it in my pocket). It turns on and only displays 2 green lines. The cracks are on the bottom left side of the screen. I found a site with the screen for $59.99 and a digitizer for $46.19. I talked with TMO and they said it was not covered under warranty, no insurance. They gave me a decent price on a MT4G (13yr customer).
I would like to get the G2 fixed/sold. I am not sure if there is more damage since it does not boot, etc. Should I order the parts and try to fix it myself, or is there somewhere else to send it to for repair?
Thanks,
Eric
How much do you want for it as is ?

I would see if there is more wrong before buying parts to fix it.
Try to connect it to adb and see if it's recognized. That way you don't have to see anything on the screen
your PC will tell if it's communicating.
Sometimes you can shine a flash light up to a broken screen and see the home screen.
In those cases I would try to fix it myself. If not you may need to send it to HTC.
I've had my s3 since store release date and been cracked since 2 days later, just getting progressively worse, meaning cracking more. The phone still works but got littl pieces of glass falling out now.IS anyone having an issue with a faulty screen? I don't have any clue what happened to it in the first place that it cracked, that is why I ask this!
Secondly,
3 hours away from best buy where I was talked into getting their protection plan. Little did i know that they wouldn't ship ANYTHING!
What do you suggest I do. Anyone had any long distance dealings with the geeksquad?
Thanks
Woody
hmmm.
the screens crack easy because of the curved glass.
mine was cracked but i had it replaced already.
did it through sprint.
funny theres a video in another thread showing a guy attaching a brand new s3 to a string along with an iphone 4s and dragging both behind a car at 30 mph... after wards the s3 screen is fine but the phone is toast...
yes, indeed, so you should wear it a case, and the screen should avoid hit the hard things, it is also easy to be scrached and damaged.
i have tab s4 t835.
accidentally tab slipped from hand and hit floor from about 2 or 2.5 feet height. nothing happens but there is grey whitish blurred area created on glass shown on picture attached. s pen ..touch image all working good on it.. as screen turn ON this greyish area almost non visible.
can someone help me what is this and how i remove this from screen or glass..?
This looks like you damaged the lcd screen when you dropped it. I don't think it is anything you can "remove" short of replacing the screen. Which, for Samsung, is usually pricy.
but the screen works good at that portion even s pen works fine..
That doesn't mean that liquid crystal matrix under the glass isn't damaged. The display has multiple layers, and you can damage one without breaking the others. The problem with Samsung is that they laminate the layers in such a way that you really have to replace the entire front assembly to fix a broken screen. This looks like a damaged lcd to me. There is probably a screen repair shop near you that could evaluate it.
u r right ... i must get it check from repair shop or samsung and see what tthey say... but im also thinking now i will use it as it is as it didnt cause any hinderance to me
That's the thing about damaged screens. You usually can still use them fine. With Samsung, I'm guessing the repair will be in the $300 rang. Which is 50% of a new device. And probably 100% of the current eBay identicle unit replacement cost. It is crazy how quickly the value drops out of these tablets. After two years and the emergence of the Tab S3 and Tab S4, trade-in eBay sale value for my Tab S2 dropped from $650 to $120.
Let me know if the techs that look at your tab agree with me. If I'm wrong, I'll buy you a beer next time you're in Lubbock.

yep,
Looks like damage to one of the inner layers in the screen sandwich. Fortunately along the edge and not in the middle of the screen. It could just be 2 layers pulled apart because of the hit, but I don't know of any way to repair aside from a complete screen replacement.
Does that part of the screen still light up, or are there dead pixels?
