Ok...so what's the deal with the calendars - Windows Phone 7 General

I've been hearing that using Gmail/hotmail will allow you to see all your calendars. On the contrary, I've also heard that you can only sync your primary calendar.
So what is it?

I know! So I'd like some clarification.

You can sync multiple calendars to your device, these are aggregated on the phone and displayed using different colors in the calendar view. It will also allow you to reschedule if two (or more) entries from different calendars clash.

from each mail service that you might have only the primary calendar will be displayed.
i.e hotmail you have calender 1 and calender 2
gmail you have calender 1 and calender 2
wp7 will display both gmail and hotmail calenders but will only show calender 1 from both services..

unbelieveable in my eyes.

wife
kids

so, i guess. my next device will be an android, again. i hoped for wp7. but for me, that is a killer argument against it.

The devices aren't even out yet and we don't have full information. Relax for a couple weeks and get the complete picture before you jump the gun.

We already now that. From microsoft:
Note
You can sync only one calendar per account. If you have multiple calendars associated with an account, your phone will recognize which calendar is the primary calendar and sync that one. Source: I cannot put links, but in the windows phone webpage, look for calendar faq
And also some people have noticed this some time ago as you can see here:
Windowsphonesecrets look for "Calendar as the Windows Phone simplicity poster child"
I was going to buy Htc Mozart the 21st of October but now I'm thinking about it. I hope they fix it but the same happens with other windows mobile phones, 6 6.1 6.5 ....

yes, but even microsoft puts on their support-page that only the first calendar is supported. I can choose a new phone bei november and i guess, that they won't patch it until then. (if they ever will)

I can Confirm this guys.
It's ridiculous and USELESS.

Same story as the iPhone when it came out and it didn't stop them from adding all the advanced stuff later on as the platform grew.
If you need all those advanced options, wait. Microsoft have made a "business oriented" smartphone OS for years, they know people want these things and they will add them when they think it's time to.
I'm sure they're working the asses off for the very first update which will hopefully bring some of the features people have been ranting about.

That's hopefully what the Jan update will do. We know that Microsoft want to take back as much is the mobile market as possible and so they know that they need to add certain features for people to want the phones.

Calendar Sync
Hi I have got an outlook 2010 and installed therein my po3 mail account. How can I sync that calendar with my wm7 device? Before with wm6 system I used the active Sync..
Thanks

to the users who already have a wp7:
1) is it possible to use more than 1 google account? so, at least, i could use the calender from my wife.
2) is there/will there be 3rd-party calendar-applications who allow more than just the main calendar from 1 source?

Hi folks
Might want to sticky this one... many rely on the Google Calendar for business like myself and this Google Calender issue has been well documented all over the internet with no apparent fix, so it might be worth making this visible for people to see. There is a bug with Google Calendar that some of you may already know about. I have tested this fix noted below and it works flawlessly on two different HTC devices.
Issue:
When you sync Google Calendar via any android phone, it will only pull entries within a 30 day date range, anything older than 30 days will NOT be displayed.. The data in your Google web calendar will display calendar dates older than 30 days (mine goes back to 2003). This issue was raised with Google in 2009 and nothing has been done about, there is a fix though!!
Fix:
From home screen hit menu and go to settings
In settings go to Accounts and Sync
Turn off the background update and autosync.
Go back to main settings menu and go to Applications
Go into manage applications
Press menu button again and select Filter and then All.
Find Calendar and select it and delete all data (it will warn you about losing all files just hit OK).
Do the same for Calendar Storage.
Go back to main Settings menu and scroll down to Date and time.
Turn off Automatic and then set date to January 1st 2009 and hit set. (I tried to go all the way back to 2006 on my first try and it just kept rolling the date back to the current one)
Wait a second and make sure date remains set to the date you selected. Then select Date again and select your desired date (should be before first entry on calendar.)
Go back into Settings menu and select Accounts and sync.
Select the Calendar to sync and then go into calendar to ensure its all there.
Once it is you can then safely turn on auto time and date again and let all apps auto update in background.
Thanks to Wade for his help.
thanks, will give it a try. I must admit I never had any problem syncing my calendar since 2001 while using HTC roms. The problem only occurs using non-sense roms for which it would only sync the past 30 days.
Why does it affect non-sense roms only?

Thanks - that's odd cause I did not experience the problem on my hero and desire until I started using a non-Sense ROM a few weeks ago - i've had my full calendar since 2001 on both devices until a few weeks ago!
By the way the trick did not work - my exchange server refused to synchronise my calendar when i set a date that did not match the date on the server...
given the lack of interest of others for this thread it sounds like only a minority of users are experiencing the problem - as i wrote earlier, i did not experience it in 3 years of running Android on various devices until I rooted my desire and installed a non-sense froyo rom. My calendar went back to 2001, and I could sync them all with my android devices until recently.
btw I have not seen many threads about the problem on xda either....

Interesting... point.
I only noticed this after I rooted as well. I guess the people that experienced this in the links I provided above must have rooted their phones too. Anyway, this thread is here for those that need to reflect back on previous appointments that aren't visible.
Doesn't work on my I9000
Sync sign appear just for a few sec and then disappears. On Calendar Storage just 40K of data seems to be downloaded instead of several MB (full of events from 2004)...
i tried it but it won't work for me
any other solution?
i really need more than 30 days

The only fix is to install a HTC rom and you'll get all your appointments back... sorry for not being any more helpful. I must admit this is an issue I have experienced with all non-htc roms on all my devices, from the hero to the desire and my Asus eeepad transformer
did not work
Hi,
I have an HTC Sensation XE, but this trick did not work... any other idea?
Where the limitation is coming from ?
- the server side or device side.. if it is device side it could be that somebody would be able to implement something where we could chose the timeframe for sync (like the gSyncIt tool for outlook)
Thanks
Does also happen at devices which are not rooted
I'm tired of posts blaming rooting of devices for every bug in Android. My brand new (December) Galxay Note is not rooted (yet) and it does not sync events from November. However, many missing basic features (e.g. a bitwise backup of the internal flash, like nandroid) in Android make living without rooting very dangerous: On my old, rooted Milestone 1, the system corrupted itself several times, and I could restore with Nandroid. Many (payed) apps after some time destroyed themselves with "updates", and I could roll back with Titanium.
CalenGoo to the rescue
While I love a technological fight as much as the next guy, this syncing issue with Google Calendar and Android phones is a waste of flipping time.
Yes I know that Google's calendar sync works for some people, some of the time.
Yes, I know theirs is built in... and used to work... and should work... and Google is being a butt for not getting it resolved.
But sorry -- it's time to get back to work.
Following the suggestion of a post earlier in this thread, I installed CalenGoo and all this [email protected] is far, far behind me.
Installed, configured and synced perfectly in about 5 minutes.
I don't work for CalenGoo, don't know anyone who does -- don't get nuthin' for mentioning it. But give it a whirl -- and when you see how quickly it works, you'll be triply pi$$ed at Google.
(f-it -- I'm to new to post URLs, so just search Calengoo in the store)
Thank you so much man, this is even happening in top recent roms like [AllianceROM][6.0][26.01]LS8
Worked on my rooted Note 3
Thanks!!! This worked on my rooted Note 3 but can not get it to work on my Note Edge. When syncing NE it gives the red indicator failed to sync.
It worked, PARTLY. All my Google calendar entries from the beginning (2009) are now synced with my phones. However, when I do a search for particular entries it cannot only find entries beginning November, 2017 not anything earlier.

Not able to sync Windows MyPhone with Mozart

Hi,
I have all my contacts and messages backed up in MyPhone.
The funny part is I am not able to sync them to my Windows 7 phone (Yes my HTC mozart which I got yesterday)
Any of you have any idea on how to do this.
(There is no myPhone app on windows 7 phone as of now)
Any help would be really appreciated
From everything I understand thus far (please correct me if I'm wrong), you can only sync between Outlook on Exchange or from Windows Live. You can't sync between Outlook that say you might have at home. They want you to do everything off the cloud.
It's not a situation I'm happy with at all. I've been experimenting with Outlook and Live using the connector and so far it's not brilliant. Live can't seem to handle contacts and calender items correctly or at least in the same way as Outlook.
Hope this helps - sorry if it doesn't
Edit - Forgot to say that MyPhone is not compatible - at least at the moment which is a shame as that wasn't too bad
its a shame that microsoft cannot use its own service to sync its phones
I totally agree. I found that MyPhone actually did work reasonably well but for me it was more of an online backup solution. Never had any issues with it though
Can we take a backup of our contacts and messages through gmail by any chance.
That I don't know. Sorry. Still trying to get Live to work with my old wimmo 6.5 device
Faced the same problem. Although I read in Paul Thurrot's review that a version of MyPhone is coming to Windows Phone 7, but I don't know what features it will be boasting. I can imagine that it will be closely integrated with Windows Live.
"I'm told a version of MyPhone will be coming online sometime soon as well, incorporating some features from the short-lived KIN Studio. And Microsoft is busy overhauling Xbox.com to accommodate Windows Phone users as I write this, so there's more to come."

In terms of migrating from Windows Mobile 6.5 to Windows Phone 7 (or in my case and HD2 to an HD7), I have managed to migrate all my calandar and contacts over without losing anything. Don't think it's possible with text messages though.
To do it, I synced my WinMob 6.5 phone with Outlook, then downloaded the Hotmail Outlook Connector which allowed me to sign into my Windows Live Hotmail account through Outlook then Outlook shows me two accounts - my old ActiveSync Local account and my Windows Live Hotmail account and it's just then a simple case of clicking and dragging from one to the other. The Windows Phone 7 will then just sync the changes automatically from your Windows Live account.

Ok - this is what I've been doing but it doesn't seem to work properly.
Do you have categories for contacts as well as calendar as well? If so how have you managed to get them across?
When you drag the calendar items across do you still end up with a prefix of "Copy"?

Have more questions but will try them first before I ask
Cheers
Aha, in terms of categories I had to end up getting rid of those completely. Windows Live Hotmail doesn't seem to support categories and even if they did I have a funny feeling I read somewhere that they aren't supported at all by Windows Phone 7 at the moment as the People Hub just dumps them all in one list.
I did have a few categories from my contacts from my previous phone but I ended up getting rid of them (for me this wasn't too much of a problem as they were just unecessary like family, favourites and school friends, etc.).
In terms of copying calendar appointments across. In Outlook 2010, while on the calendar section, in the left hand pane I checkboxed both my local activesync calendar and my hotmail calendar which allowed both to be shown side by side in the main part of outlook. I then just dragged appointments from my local calendar to the Hotmail one and the mouse comes up with a (+) sign while dragging meaning it automatically assumes that you're copying. If you copy a regular occurence, after dragging it was come up with a menu asking whether you want to copy the whole series or just the particular appointment you're dragging.
And if you mean prefix as in it changes the appointment name, then no. All of my appointment names copies 'as is' with no changes.
Hope this helps!
Ok!! Seems like appointments set up by others like meeting requests etc do go in as "Copy:" Will still play with this some more to see if I can resolve as it is an Outlook (2007) issue not Live issue.
The categories thing is a pain both on calender and contacts. I make a lot of use of them in both personal and business.
Having to constantly drag across to live is going to be a massive a*se ache too. Will see about writing a macro or something to automate the process.
Live is just not designed for the business professional (oooh, look at me

To be fair Kik is a great alternative but then convincing your friends to use something other than WhatsApp isn't an easy task. So really this is good news.
Samsung ChatOn will be better. It'll have much better file/media sharing and social functionality. Samsung just need to get the App out the Door. I still know people who refuse to create a Facebook account. ChatOn would be perfect for those people.
Never used Kik before. They had a Huge Security hole on WP7 and they took way too long to fix that.
WhatsApp is a lot more popular in Europe than in the US, though.

For when your friends are away from their PCs:
If they have an Android phone: Facebook chat is a bit rubbish and WLM isn't used by most (both are done via third party android apps)
If they have a Blackberry: Neither of FB Chat or WLM are really avaliable
Both sets of these users use WhatsApp a lot.
^ I don't have a FB account, but my lady does. Her FB chats are integrated in with her texts, just like all the other social stuff is integrated in her contacts app. She loves it. So it can't be too rubbish.
Oh yeah she has a Android.

The biggest failure of WhatsApp is that you have absolutely no control over who else can see taht you have it installed on your phone if you use the program. Also, if you change your phone number or relagate your phone to a backup other people can have multiple entries in their WhatsApp contact list. It's really messy from that standpoint.
I had to contact them to get phone numbers removed from their DB because of that. It's a real PITA.
It's like getting a BB and having every other BB list in your phone's contact list automatically be able to see your PIN and send you messages, unless you block them. Ugh...
That's great news... in between testing a bunch of new smartphones (some are Android based), I've grown used to WhatsApp and have quite a few friends with it.

I would definitely agree with that which is why I think KiK is superior but convincing people to drop WhatsApp is a lost cause. Having the app checking your contact list is considered to be its biggest feature and the reason it has more users. I don't see how hard it can be to enter a username once for each one of your contact.
Correct.
That's why I'm waiting for ChatOn. Hopefully it will come to WP7 but since I've been using the Vibrant as my daily driver and the HD7 as a quasi-ZuneHD it won't matter if it comes to Android first
The main issue I've had with WhatsApp and Kik is reliability and message delivery speed. This is more pronounced with Kik. They were really really fast at first, but as more people started using it their service has degraded. WhatsApp is more reliable but I still get stints where messages fail to send for several minutes and I don't recieve messages people send, or get them way after they send them... For hours at a time...
I really like what Samsung is doing with ChatOn, though. They need to get the Android app out fast so I can try it out.
File Transfer in the integrated Mango Chat protocols is too limited, IMO.
chat apps............meh.....
Nice have been waiting for this quite some time.
The built in live + fb messenger is not sufficient since you HAVE to be online to send/receive messages. It has chat only not integrated messages (and really why?). Also it drains the battery so quickly that is kind of useless.
It does not let me be offline for live and be online for fb. And if somebody send me offline msgs, i have to read them in the fb app which is a pain. Cant wait for the mango update of the fb app and be able to pin the inbox to the start screen.
Lets hope MS does some improvements to the native support of offline msgs in the next version.
Drains your battery? I've actually had better battery life with Mango, my only gripe is Zune freezing with downloaded marketplace songs, but I think the chat is amazing, would have loved an inbox too though.
& did I see somebody say nobody uses WLM?

Another tease, it's definitely coming. By the way, Joe Belfiore also retweeted the initial tweet so no doubt is allowed. For all we know they might get it out as soon as Mango is released.

using a nexus without google-account?

Hey guys,
i am using all my android phones for a while with all the gapps provided. i really like them, but there are some things that make me angry and really would like to get rid of them.
let me start with the contacts syncing.
contacts app is fine, especially the way u can attach pictures to your contacts, which will be displayed in nice looking hd quality when getting a call.
so far so good. lets sync with your google account. oh well... picutures really look bad now. and each time you sync with it... it will be bad again, no matter what
(i know, the problem is the googleservice itself. we cant do **** here)
but how to handle this? if there would be another way to safe my contacts in a easy way, i would like to hear it.
so first point: no need for contacts sync
next point is gallery. i dont need the sync for it. google does not need to know anything
next point, music app. its fine, but there is no need for me attach it to my google-acc
calendar is nice and will be used. but even with this, i do not need it on other devices.
last two points are the market and maps. here we get a problem
i do need both of them. is there a way to avoid using a google account?
this could be a workaround for ppl who dislike using a google account in future maybe... if it is even possible. i dont know right now
You can disable account-wide sync for all the apps that you've mentioned. Gallery is a little tricky especially if you are using G+ but it's possible. In fact, you can skip signing into a Google acocunt completely should give you a clue.
You will only have problems with the market. As far as I know, you have to have a google account to download apps from the google market. But you could always install 3rd markets like Amazon appstore, Slideme and GetJar, off the top of my head.
the biggest problem i have is the contacts.
is there a way to easy backup them and restore, maybe when switching roms or whatever?
some for my calendar. how to restore it without signing in?
ps: i am not using g+
pps: if someone would know if there is a data folder or whatever, where the contents of my contacts and sms and calendar are saved, that would be enogth for me.
coz then i could just cut it off there and place it in my new roms
Your problem with contacts is bad picture quality..? Then don't put pictures on your contacts.. Google isn't looking at your pictures either. If you want to use the market you need a Google account. None of the information is stored on your phone so there is no folder on your phone that will let you back these up.

You can completely disable all syncing to your Google account if you want, but you're really just making it harder on yourself than it needs to be.
I realize there are some little niggles that are annoying about how its working right now, but I think its a bigger hassle to completely turn it off and do it all manually with a mishmash of other services.
if there would be a solution to have high quality contact pictures, i would use it. no problem with it
but it seems really ugly. dont you have that ****?
just as an example i found on the internet...

this is what any contact picture looks like after syncing my contacts.
if i just attach one without sync enabled, it looks awesome. after syncing, its like the picture
there must be any workaround for this problem...?!?

You just said it yourself.. don't sync your contacts. You aren't forced to sync anything. If you get pictures from Facebook there is an app called Haxsync that will give you high quality pictures.

thats the point, where to get my contacts if not syncing when switching the roms?
and no, i dont use any social network
STOP
We are forced to sync! Ok one can avoid it if you now what options to be checked and which not. But in first place everything is synced to somewhere. You have to some kind of "pro" to avoid it completly
I had all my contacts accidently synced to google after android "stole" my thunderbird contacts claimed that they have to be googlemail.com contacts and then after an accidently removal of an small hook evrythink went to google.
The best was that my thunderbird then all contacs removed as well, because my phone said "all contacts in the homeaccount have been deleted"
###Just to have my anger put at least somewhere###
To come back to the orginal poster:
Now it works all perfectly well with birdiesync (i read somewhere but havent tried thta MyPhoneExplorer would to the trick as well), i have only an google account for market access reasons. I dont use gmail (as google reads all mails in order have the right advertisement for me) but k9. Just deactivate syncing under settings.
But i cant so far confirm that the contact pics arent downsized. Because i dont really care...

Question Maildroid

Hi guys have been trying to install Maildroid on my Fold 3 but keep getting this error.
Have downloaded from the play store and also the Dev's website but this comes up eveytime.
l might add that the page is unresponsive and the only thing l can do is shut it down. I have also set all permissions.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Is this app still getting updates? (I see the last one is from august '21)
I paid many years ago for premium and liked it all out for sometime, eventually switched to Aqua Mail Pro because I wasn't happy with Maildroid anymore.
Anyway what I mean is, maybe it is also time for you switching away to better alternatives
Just tried it out for you installing Maildroid Pro and I didn't have any issues installing and adding my Gmail account.

I think you are right there - I managed to get it running but it will not play well with office 365.
The main reason I am trying it is because it appears it the only android mail client that can save emails to different accounts - which Apple has been able to do since the year dot!!!

I also loved it, but on going development is important I think especially when it is a email client.
Of course others are also not guaranteed in the future, Aqua Mail Pro is for me the same but better than Maildroid.
But with Aqua Mail I got a problem after updating to Android 12, when closing the window and reopening it doesn't refresh but stays like you closed it.
Devs says, we got more reports but think it is because of Samsung so they said wait
I was able installing Maildroid on my Fold3, I guess something is blocking it for you installing it?.

l got it running in the end - I think it was a server connection issue their end as I tried it an hour ago and it connected and I was able to set it up fine - until I tried the office 365 account which failed miserably.
So now its history
Tried Aqua as well but the 365 account is a company one - meaning they will only let a select few mail clients connect.
Bottom line is I'm screwed - so will move all the emails between accounts on my Macbook at the end of each day
I gave up on Maildriod last year. It was the best IMHO, but they stopped supporting it. I went with Samsung Mail FWIW.

I've not had that issue with Aqua Mail Pro. But, I do recommend the app! Better than the old one I used on my previous phone.

I tried a lot of things. Aqua Mail and one other app is acting like this since 12, hard reset or reinstall doesn't fix it,

Weird. What's the other app? Did you try uninstalling it and then seeing if Aqua Mail does that thing still?
