Not able to sync Windows MyPhone with Mozart - Windows Phone 7 General

Hi,
I have all my contacts and messages backed up in MyPhone.
The funny part is I am not able to sync them to my Windows 7 phone (Yes my HTC mozart which I got yesterday)
Any of you have any idea on how to do this.
(There is no myPhone app on windows 7 phone as of now)
Any help would be really appreciated

From everything I understand thus far (please correct me if I'm wrong), you can only sync between Outlook on Exchange or from Windows Live. You can't sync between Outlook that say you might have at home. They want you to do everything off the cloud.
It's not a situation I'm happy with at all. I've been experimenting with Outlook and Live using the connector and so far it's not brilliant. Live can't seem to handle contacts and calender items correctly or at least in the same way as Outlook.
Hope this helps - sorry if it doesn't
Edit - Forgot to say that MyPhone is not compatible - at least at the moment which is a shame as that wasn't too bad

its a shame that microsoft cannot use its own service to sync its phones

I totally agree. I found that MyPhone actually did work reasonably well but for me it was more of an online backup solution. Never had any issues with it though

Can we take a backup of our contacts and messages through gmail by any chance.

That I don't know. Sorry. Still trying to get Live to work with my old wimmo 6.5 device

Faced the same problem. Although I read in Paul Thurrot's review that a version of MyPhone is coming to Windows Phone 7, but I don't know what features it will be boasting. I can imagine that it will be closely integrated with Windows Live.
"I'm told a version of MyPhone will be coming online sometime soon as well, incorporating some features from the short-lived KIN Studio. And Microsoft is busy overhauling Xbox.com to accommodate Windows Phone users as I write this, so there's more to come."

In terms of migrating from Windows Mobile 6.5 to Windows Phone 7 (or in my case and HD2 to an HD7), I have managed to migrate all my calandar and contacts over without losing anything. Don't think it's possible with text messages though.
To do it, I synced my WinMob 6.5 phone with Outlook, then downloaded the Hotmail Outlook Connector which allowed me to sign into my Windows Live Hotmail account through Outlook then Outlook shows me two accounts - my old ActiveSync Local account and my Windows Live Hotmail account and it's just then a simple case of clicking and dragging from one to the other. The Windows Phone 7 will then just sync the changes automatically from your Windows Live account.

Ok - this is what I've been doing but it doesn't seem to work properly.
Do you have categories for contacts as well as calendar as well? If so how have you managed to get them across?
When you drag the calendar items across do you still end up with a prefix of "Copy"?

Have more questions but will try them first before I ask
Cheers

Aha, in terms of categories I had to end up getting rid of those completely. Windows Live Hotmail doesn't seem to support categories and even if they did I have a funny feeling I read somewhere that they aren't supported at all by Windows Phone 7 at the moment as the People Hub just dumps them all in one list.
I did have a few categories from my contacts from my previous phone but I ended up getting rid of them (for me this wasn't too much of a problem as they were just unecessary like family, favourites and school friends, etc.).
In terms of copying calendar appointments across. In Outlook 2010, while on the calendar section, in the left hand pane I checkboxed both my local activesync calendar and my hotmail calendar which allowed both to be shown side by side in the main part of outlook. I then just dragged appointments from my local calendar to the Hotmail one and the mouse comes up with a (+) sign while dragging meaning it automatically assumes that you're copying. If you copy a regular occurence, after dragging it was come up with a menu asking whether you want to copy the whole series or just the particular appointment you're dragging.
And if you mean prefix as in it changes the appointment name, then no. All of my appointment names copies 'as is' with no changes.
Hope this helps!

Ok!! Seems like appointments set up by others like meeting requests etc do go in as "Copy:" Will still play with this some more to see if I can resolve as it is an Outlook (2007) issue not Live issue.
The categories thing is a pain both on calender and contacts. I make a lot of use of them in both personal and business.
Having to constantly drag across to live is going to be a massive a*se ache too. Will see about writing a macro or something to automate the process.
Live is just not designed for the business professional (oooh, look at me

Contacts

hello everyone,
I finally got my desire this monday and being playing it all the time.
I have all my gmail/facebook/phone contacts under the people menu and i have filtered them as phone/with numbers only. everything looks nice, but when i try to send sms to multiple contacts it shows all my contacts, facebook/gmail. how can i fix this?
and to have my contacts sync automaticly i want to "convert" my phone contacts to gmail contacts. is it possible and if yes, will the facebook links will be stored as well.
thanks for answering in advance!
ps.in order not to get "google it" comments i did heavy searching but as the words are like people, contacts, desire, sync it is almost millions of results, mostly unuseful.
What do you mean by 'it shows all my contacts'
Do you mean in the Messaging app or in the Contacts app??
Contacts has everything linked into it Google+Facebook, your phone will link Google with the contacts on your phone so you always have your contacts on your phone and Gmail.com, Facebook contacts wont show up on Gmail.com and the pictures from Facebook wont show up on Gmail.com regardless of if they are linked to contacts on your phone or not,, i hope this helps a little bit

In messaging app. I just want to see my gmail/phone contacts, not the facebook contacts as it is in people app.
Also is there a way to just import gmail "my contacts" rather than "all contacts" as all contacts include all the email addresses you have used so far in gmail.
Thanks
If you open up Gmail.com and click contacts usually you can have a play around in there and move/delete certain contacts and thatll then sync with your phone
and as for messageing, do you mean;
'im sending message to 5 people and it shows the 5 seperate people in messaging'
or?
'its showing messages i have received on facebook as well'

I mean when I am goign to send texts to multiple recipents in messaging app, in the recipent selection windows, where you tick the people, I am getting the list of all contacts, including facebook emails and mobiel numbers. I don't want facebook but gmail and phone contacts.
Was it more clear this time?
Thanks for the superquick answer btw.
I get ya know
out of curiosity, your facebook, did you select sync all contacts or sync only contacts on phone?? (this has happened to me in the past) also if your facebook contacts have phone numbers listed on facebook itll try synching them as well
This time it is me who didn't get the question.
Are you asking if Facebook is selected under the sync menu? In sync menu. myfacebook, and gmail accounts are selected.
I just don't want my facebook contacts(numbers and emails) under the messaging app and "phone" menu.
if you go into the sync menu and click on facebook is it only synching with contacts in phone, or all facebook contacts?
There are only 3 options under Facebook under Sync:
Account settings(just selecting the sync frequency)
Sync live feed
Sync contacts
I can only select or deselect the last two, so I don't know where to look if it syncs with contacts in phone, or all facebook contacts
Go into the facebook app and on the main menu screen press Menu (on phone) and click on settings have a look in there at the bottom for 'other settings' and there should be an option for sync contacts, bringing up this screen;

Now I understand you
But under the other settings it is only "Helpful Tips". Maybe it is because I am using the default facebook app?(for htc sense, that was preinstalled on the phone)
Maybe,,, it might be worth having an quick install from the market and seeing if this changes anything
other then that this might be a 'feature' in the official HTC ROM,, i never checked it though and rooted and installed a Cooked ROM 2 days after purchase
double post*
i will try the app from the market!
The app in the market comes as an update to HTC sense one, it didn't change anything as I can see.
I will try something on my own now
Keep us updated mate as there might be more out there having issues
after hours of googling and calling htc hotline:
you can't link your phone contacts to facebook contacts and keep just facebook contacts out of your "phone" and messaging tabs.
i will spend some hours on my gmail contacts and add photos manually, remove facebook sync at all.
Dang!
i have to admit that sucks,,, i like the sync contacts only in phone so some of my contacts have pics but other then that,,, that sucks!
Give it a week or 2 and someone will have Cooked a ROM or made a MOD to fix this issue

[Q] Does the Desire support multiple Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) Accounts?

Hi, with hotmail introducing EAS for mobile devices today on the 30th Aug, I was wondering if the Desire can support multiple EAS accounts??
I've read in several places it can't. I've also heard that the Nexus One can support multiple accounts, so if this issue does exist, would it be as easy as installing the Nexus' email app on the Desire to solve it?
(I'm running my Desire on LeeDrOid's 1.9a Froyo ROM is that makes any difference)
UPDATE & ANSWERED: Nevermind, as usual, google answered the Q for me, Froyo brought along multiple EAS support for the HTC Desire, source: http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/mobile-it/2010/08/03/android-22-bound-for-htc-desire-40089711/
Froyo does support multiple Exchange accounts. You only need an email client that let's you configure multiple Exchange accounts. If you use the email client HTC Sense offers, then it's a no-go. HTC Sense email client can only configure one Exchange account. However, the stock android email client can be used to configure multiple Exchange accounts.
Look in the market for Improved Email. I've installed it and configured 3 Exchange accounts and this works very well.
I've attached an email client which allows you to configure and setup multiple exchange accounts. It's the same as the Improved email version, only with an other icon.
Tested and works perfectly on LeeDroid v1.8, v1.9 and v2.0
Thanks for the advice, I downloaded Improved Email from the Market and set up both my Hotmail accounts on it, they sync mail, contacts & calender perfectly! Can get rid of K9Mail now!
any of them have an unread counter widget?
I am looking for a mail client that allows me to connect to my company exchange server (Exchange 2007 SP1) that integrates into the device calander etc. The HTC Mail app does this, but I tried the Oxygen ROM the other day and discovered that the native Android mail client won't connect to the company mail server. I know Touchdown and Roadsync etc work, but they have their own Calendar etc so I have to check multiple applications rather than one Calendar app/widget which I don't want.
I also tried Improved Email and it came up with the same error as the mail client in the Oxygen ROM...
Setup could not finish
This server requires security features your phone does not support
However, in the mobile devices list on OWA it is shown so it obviously gets part way through the process and the HTC Mail client works (the htcbravo device)

Any ideas? I assume it's something at the Exchange end that's causing the problem, but why does the HTC client/Touchdown/iPhones work and the native mail client not?
This is the only thing stopping me from moving to a non-sense ROM at the moment...

I have the exact same issue with my HTC Desire and company mail. Improved Mail returns a message saying that company policies require more security than the mail client can handle. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks
I have also tried Touchdown and other mail apps, but I certainly prefer the standard calendar to touchdown etc.
Hey all, I to am trying to sort out multiple Excahnge account on an HTC Desire. I am just search the market for "Improved Mail" but came back with nothing. Is this app no longer available or do I have to get rid of sense or a now ROM or something?

Little late I know, but some companies require that the activesync client allow for remote wipe, PIN enforcement and maximum idle time.
I doubt "Improved Mail" does, so you're out of luck.

Ok...so what's the deal with the calendars

I've been hearing that using Gmail/hotmail will allow you to see all your calendars. On the contrary, I've also heard that you can only sync your primary calendar.
So what is it?

I know! So I'd like some clarification.
You can sync multiple calendars to your device, these are aggregated on the phone and displayed using different colors in the calendar view. It will also allow you to reschedule if two (or more) entries from different calendars clash.
from each mail service that you might have only the primary calendar will be displayed.
i.e hotmail you have calender 1 and calender 2
gmail you have calender 1 and calender 2
wp7 will display both gmail and hotmail calenders but will only show calender 1 from both services..

The devices aren't even out yet and we don't have full information. Relax for a couple weeks and get the complete picture before you jump the gun.
We already now that. From microsoft:
Note
You can sync only one calendar per account. If you have multiple calendars associated with an account, your phone will recognize which calendar is the primary calendar and sync that one. Source: I cannot put links, but in the windows phone webpage, look for calendar faq
And also some people have noticed this some time ago as you can see here:
Windowsphonesecrets look for "Calendar as the Windows Phone simplicity poster child"
I was going to buy Htc Mozart the 21st of October but now I'm thinking about it. I hope they fix it but the same happens with other windows mobile phones, 6 6.1 6.5 ....

yes, but even microsoft puts on their support-page that only the first calendar is supported. I can choose a new phone bei november and i guess, that they won't patch it until then. (if they ever will)

Same story as the iPhone when it came out and it didn't stop them from adding all the advanced stuff later on as the platform grew.
If you need all those advanced options, wait. Microsoft have made a "business oriented" smartphone OS for years, they know people want these things and they will add them when they think it's time to.
I'm sure they're working the asses off for the very first update which will hopefully bring some of the features people have been ranting about.

Calendar Sync
Hi I have got an outlook 2010 and installed therein my po3 mail account. How can I sync that calendar with my wm7 device? Before with wm6 system I used the active Sync..
Thanks

1) is it possible to use more than 1 google account? so, at least, i could use the calender from my wife.
2) is there/will there be 3rd-party calendar-applications who allow more than just the main calendar from 1 source?

To be fair Kik is a great alternative but then convincing your friends to use something other than WhatsApp isn't an easy task. So really this is good news.
Samsung ChatOn will be better. It'll have much better file/media sharing and social functionality. Samsung just need to get the App out the Door. I still know people who refuse to create a Facebook account. ChatOn would be perfect for those people.
Never used Kik before. They had a Huge Security hole on WP7 and they took way too long to fix that.
WhatsApp is a lot more popular in Europe than in the US, though.

For when your friends are away from their PCs:
If they have an Android phone: Facebook chat is a bit rubbish and WLM isn't used by most (both are done via third party android apps)
If they have a Blackberry: Neither of FB Chat or WLM are really avaliable
Both sets of these users use WhatsApp a lot.
^ I don't have a FB account, but my lady does. Her FB chats are integrated in with her texts, just like all the other social stuff is integrated in her contacts app. She loves it. So it can't be too rubbish.
Oh yeah she has a Android.
maybe i'm wrong but didn't blackberry have an official microsoft version of wlm?

The tweet came from the official Whatsapp account, and mentioned the popularity of mangoes. You're supposed to put 2+2 together, and interpret it to mean that Mango has their attention right now.

The biggest failure of WhatsApp is that you have absolutely no control over who else can see taht you have it installed on your phone if you use the program. Also, if you change your phone number or relagate your phone to a backup other people can have multiple entries in their WhatsApp contact list. It's really messy from that standpoint.
I had to contact them to get phone numbers removed from their DB because of that. It's a real PITA.
It's like getting a BB and having every other BB list in your phone's contact list automatically be able to see your PIN and send you messages, unless you block them. Ugh...
That's great news... in between testing a bunch of new smartphones (some are Android based), I've grown used to WhatsApp and have quite a few friends with it.

I would definitely agree with that which is why I think KiK is superior but convincing people to drop WhatsApp is a lost cause. Having the app checking your contact list is considered to be its biggest feature and the reason it has more users. I don't see how hard it can be to enter a username once for each one of your contact.
Correct.
That's why I'm waiting for ChatOn. Hopefully it will come to WP7 but since I've been using the Vibrant as my daily driver and the HD7 as a quasi-ZuneHD it won't matter if it comes to Android first
The main issue I've had with WhatsApp and Kik is reliability and message delivery speed. This is more pronounced with Kik. They were really really fast at first, but as more people started using it their service has degraded. WhatsApp is more reliable but I still get stints where messages fail to send for several minutes and I don't recieve messages people send, or get them way after they send them... For hours at a time...
I really like what Samsung is doing with ChatOn, though. They need to get the Android app out fast so I can try it out.
File Transfer in the integrated Mango Chat protocols is too limited, IMO.
chat apps............meh.....
Nice have been waiting for this quite some time.
The built in live + fb messenger is not sufficient since you HAVE to be online to send/receive messages. It has chat only not integrated messages (and really why?). Also it drains the battery so quickly that is kind of useless.
It does not let me be offline for live and be online for fb. And if somebody send me offline msgs, i have to read them in the fb app which is a pain. Cant wait for the mango update of the fb app and be able to pin the inbox to the start screen.
Lets hope MS does some improvements to the native support of offline msgs in the next version.
Drains your battery? I've actually had better battery life with Mango, my only gripe is Zune freezing with downloaded marketplace songs, but I think the chat is amazing, would have loved an inbox too though.
& did I see somebody say nobody uses WLM?

Another tease, it's definitely coming. By the way, Joe Belfiore also retweeted the initial tweet so no doubt is allowed. For all we know they might get it out as soon as Mango is released.

using a nexus without google-account?

Hey guys,
i am using all my android phones for a while with all the gapps provided. i really like them, but there are some things that make me angry and really would like to get rid of them.
let me start with the contacts syncing.
contacts app is fine, especially the way u can attach pictures to your contacts, which will be displayed in nice looking hd quality when getting a call.
so far so good. lets sync with your google account. oh well... picutures really look bad now. and each time you sync with it... it will be bad again, no matter what
(i know, the problem is the googleservice itself. we cant do **** here)
but how to handle this? if there would be another way to safe my contacts in a easy way, i would like to hear it.
so first point: no need for contacts sync
next point is gallery. i dont need the sync for it. google does not need to know anything
next point, music app. its fine, but there is no need for me attach it to my google-acc
calendar is nice and will be used. but even with this, i do not need it on other devices.
last two points are the market and maps. here we get a problem
i do need both of them. is there a way to avoid using a google account?
this could be a workaround for ppl who dislike using a google account in future maybe... if it is even possible. i dont know right now
You can disable account-wide sync for all the apps that you've mentioned. Gallery is a little tricky especially if you are using G+ but it's possible. In fact, you can skip signing into a Google acocunt completely should give you a clue.
You will only have problems with the market. As far as I know, you have to have a google account to download apps from the google market. But you could always install 3rd markets like Amazon appstore, Slideme and GetJar, off the top of my head.
the biggest problem i have is the contacts.
is there a way to easy backup them and restore, maybe when switching roms or whatever?
some for my calendar. how to restore it without signing in?
ps: i am not using g+
pps: if someone would know if there is a data folder or whatever, where the contents of my contacts and sms and calendar are saved, that would be enogth for me.
coz then i could just cut it off there and place it in my new roms
Your problem with contacts is bad picture quality..? Then don't put pictures on your contacts.. Google isn't looking at your pictures either. If you want to use the market you need a Google account. None of the information is stored on your phone so there is no folder on your phone that will let you back these up.

You can completely disable all syncing to your Google account if you want, but you're really just making it harder on yourself than it needs to be.
I realize there are some little niggles that are annoying about how its working right now, but I think its a bigger hassle to completely turn it off and do it all manually with a mishmash of other services.
if there would be a solution to have high quality contact pictures, i would use it. no problem with it
but it seems really ugly. dont you have that ****?
just as an example i found on the internet...

this is what any contact picture looks like after syncing my contacts.
if i just attach one without sync enabled, it looks awesome. after syncing, its like the picture
there must be any workaround for this problem...?!?

You just said it yourself.. don't sync your contacts. You aren't forced to sync anything. If you get pictures from Facebook there is an app called Haxsync that will give you high quality pictures.

thats the point, where to get my contacts if not syncing when switching the roms?
and no, i dont use any social network
STOP
We are forced to sync! Ok one can avoid it if you now what options to be checked and which not. But in first place everything is synced to somewhere. You have to some kind of "pro" to avoid it completly
I had all my contacts accidently synced to google after android "stole" my thunderbird contacts claimed that they have to be googlemail.com contacts and then after an accidently removal of an small hook evrythink went to google.
The best was that my thunderbird then all contacs removed as well, because my phone said "all contacts in the homeaccount have been deleted"
###Just to have my anger put at least somewhere###
To come back to the orginal poster:
Now it works all perfectly well with birdiesync (i read somewhere but havent tried thta MyPhoneExplorer would to the trick as well), i have only an google account for market access reasons. I dont use gmail (as google reads all mails in order have the right advertisement for me) but k9. Just deactivate syncing under settings.
But i cant so far confirm that the contact pics arent downsized. Because i dont really care...
Bye
