How did you root originally? Shouldnt of done OTA with root. Can you get into your hboot? S-off or S-on? If S-on then you would prolly have to reroot.
S-OFF. Thanks for the reply. So, with s-off, where do I go from here?

You can flash Amon RA or Clockwork recovery from the bootloader and then flash the superuser zip from recovery.

Ya with S-off your still rooted prolly just lost your recovery and superuser permissions.

Rooted, unrevoked, forevered and upgraded a friend to 2.2 with root access. The only thing I want to do now is flash a stock recovery and remove clockwork mod.
Anyone have a link to download one? I can't find it anywhere.
You only have a choice of RA or Clockwork. The stock recovery, as far as I know, wasn't something we could actually access. Though I could be wrong. Custom recovery is a part of being rooted. Without it you couldnt flash anything.

Shoot. The reason I'm looking for it is due to the stock recovery floating around for the Incredible.
I've unrevoked, forevered, froyoed, rooted, and reverted to a stock recovery on my phone to allow any additional software upgrades to my Incredible, with my friend's evo... I figured I could do the same.
The only thing to complete now is the stock recovery.
Hmmmmm
I just extracted this from the 3.26.651.6 OTA and packaged it. It should do the trick. Dump it on the root of your SD card and reboot into the bootloader.

The stock recovery is no recovery... running an RUU or flashing a PC36IMG of the RUU will erase the recovery.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Here you go.

This is the flashable stock recovery "from" the 3.70.651.1 full OTA. Not sure that's what you were asking for.

Wait, really? So that red triangle with the exclamation mark is what I'm supposed to see after unrooting? Why do they even have a recovery option in there then?
Hey guys I've searched and haven't really seen a simple answer. I have the s-off from unrevoked and did the OTA update and had root even on the OTA. Now like a week later my root randomly stopped working and I can't load my recovery. How can I load a recovery back up?
You should be able to get the PC36IMG zip. From here and flash it from your bootloader if your s-off.

What ROM are you using? Most ROMs come with the proper superuser apk cooked into them.
Boot into your hboot. Does it say S-on or S-off? If it says S-on then you're not rooted. If it says S-off then you're rooted and need to make sure you flash a ROM with an updated superuser apk or get the updated version.
If your Hboot says S-Off, as it should, boot up, go to Superuser and in the menu, make sure permissions are enabled.
I unrooted my evo 4g a week ago because I was going to turn it in to the Sprint store but I turned out keeping my phone. Now I'm trying to root it again and install custom recovery.
I am running the Sprint Stock ROM 2.3.5 but I still have S-OFF when I load into bootloader. I also have HBOOT version 6.16.002
Is there any way I can install a recovery program such as clockwork, etc. with this S off permission?
thanks

Yes as long as you have S-Off you are rooted, you will be able to install a new recovery.
You're S-OFF (rooted), so you should simply be able to download ROM Manager and Flash CWM. Have fun

Don't use rom manager, theres too many things that could go wrong,i've had restore problems with rom manager, its better to install a recovery manually.
I don't have superuser anymore though since I'm on the stock rom so I can't use Rom manager to flash the recovery.

Find the recovery of your choosing in zip form, name it PC36IMG, put it on the root of your SD and boot into bootloader.

Which one do you recommend? I've always used clockwork but I was wondering if there was a better one?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
use "AmonRa Recovery v3.11-gnm" for recovery, it's the best.
http://www.mediafire.com/?w2ycdp38dqfg9
put on sdcard, rename to "PC36IMG.zip", boot into bootloader, say yes to install.
after you have amonRa recovery, goto "Recovery", install from zip "Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed" to root device.

S-off is not "rooted" s-off is just security off meaning you can install unsigned unofficial software in the bootloader, s-on is security enabled requiring an officially signed HTC soft/firmware to be able to flash. Superuser(SU) and busybox are required to obtain root privileges
Edit: you can get superuser by downloading and installing it from the market and busybox installer which will regain root privileges, you can the use flash image to install a recovery .img or use rom manager(not my recommended method) or prior to installing SU and busybox you can flash recovery thru bootloader as a PC36IMG.zip or a recovery.img using fastboot

I'd recommend downloading busybox installer from the market and su as well, and flashing a recovery VIA PC36IMG; I think fastboot may be a bit too much for the user right now.
I was just giving all options available for regaining custom recovery and full root from s-off *shrugs*
Edit: flashing PC36IMG is my preferred method cuz its quick and easy BTW I recommend Amon RA style supersonic recovery v3.11 since it has full capacitive function home = up menu = down back = back search = select no more raping your hardware buttons

So I decided to try and unroot my htc evo 4g with this tutorial i found:
[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141&highlight=unroot
I began with the steps that just involved transferring PC36IMG.zip onto my root folder and booting into boot loader. I ran the update and everything and rebooted and my phone seemed to have factory reset. i went back to my bootloader tho to find that it still says "s-off" so i guess its still rooted? I then installed rom manager and when i go to app it says im not rooted. Im so lost and confused I assumed i need to flash a recovery so i used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 and tried each way. none have worked.
Please help!!
Thanks
Your not rooted just s-off which makes it possible to root.. If you get s on and update your phone to a newer hboot then you can't root.... If you want to be rooted again and have a custom recovery your gonna have to flash a recovery and flash su

the only thing that can be flashed in the bootloader that will wipe your phone is a RUU. Flashing a recovery wont erase anything
I also did the bootloader thing and ended up getting a big "**unlocked**" and "**relocked**" symbol above the regular Supersonic EVT3 S-ON. So I dont where this leaves me when its talking about my warranty and getting the device repaired. I wanted to re-root my device but nothing is working now that I am HBoot 2.18
Hey all) Maybe someone knows where to get information on how to write scripts for root.

unlock bootloader then downgrade to a earlier version of android like 2.3.3 then accept the OTA and it will say LOCKED s-on http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-) dont do the root part after you downgrade to a earlier version
I just tried this today and it should work.. Use the "HEX" zip file from this forum. Rename it PC36IMG and place it on the root of your SD card..

Such a pain in the butt now. I tried to get s-off for my nephew earlier this month but I threw in the towel. Thought it would be as easy as my phone but it was too late as he had updated his bootloader. My phone was rooted back in January, nice and easy.
