If we have the G2 will we be able to use the new HTC Sense services/Website? I've created an account and it now wants me to log in from my phone with Sense. Can we add it to the G2 or is that not an option?
I don't believe so since the G2 doesn't have sense...maybe after root has been completed.

No it will not work, HTCSense.com is only supported on 2 devices at launch being the Desire Z and the Desire HD both running the newest version of HTC Sense.
You do realise that while they are almost identical twins, the G2 is basically a T-mo branded phone? Its like, hey HTC make me a phone and HTC takes the Desire Z design, strips it all of what's HTC (software wise) and then sell it to Tmo, which then sells it to you.
The Desire Z on the other hand, is sold by HTC with their Sense software on board. This i believe will make the Desire Z definately pricier than the G2, because you are paying for HTC's software and services. Tmo on the other hand, (my guess) does not pay HTC for any software services, just the hardware, hence why G2 can be cheap, and also why it SHOULD NOT get to use the HTCSense.com services.
Now once rooted, who knows whether it'll be able to use it or not. It all depends on how HTCSense.com verifies the phone. If it verifies based on software, then perhaps a root and custom rom with HTC Sense are all it takes to be able to use the HTCSense.com service. But if the website verifies the phone by matching IMEI or SN with phone model, then i think the G2 would never get HTCSense.com services.
Edit: Seems like someone managed to sign into the service with a Desire HD ROM. Hurrah?!

I use another service provider and was considering getting HTC Desire, but the only thing Desire lacked was a load of internal memory which incredible took care off.
So is this an exclusive Verizon phone ?
if not, how long would it take for it to be sold sim-free.
Thanks
Its a CDMA phone so its never gonna be sold "sim-free" Maybe they'll make a similar model for GSM but you will probably never see this exact phone in GSM
HTC has stated this phone is a Verizon exclusive.
So I am days away from junking my iPhone and coming over to the android world...
I've got my eyes on the HTC Desire HD... My current carrier is Fido and a friend of mine is open to selling me his Telus HTC Desire HD. I know that once it is unlocked I can use my Fido SIM card in it... What I don't know is whether or not I will be able to update to Android 2.3 with an unlocked phone.
Alternatively, would it be better for me to go with an unlocked AT&T HTC phone since (from my understanding... which is limited lol) their 3G networks seem to operate on the same frequencies...
I'm not tech savvy... I just want a fun android phone and still be able to get the android updates.
Thanks

To determine if the phone is the AWS version of the HTC VISION (both phones are actually the SAME phone, with different amplifiers), check the top of the screen -- it will say T--Mobile. Also, at the bottom of the BACK COVER (not the battery cover, the actual phone back cover), the AWS version will say "with Google". The non-AWS version will say "with HTC Sense".
Note that any of the pieces could be exchanged if the phone was ever damaged, so the only REAL way to tell is to ask HTC given the IMEI (which also could easily be changed in this phone).
The TRUE ONLY way to tell is to try to sign it on to a UMTS network and verify the supported frequencies.

Hi everyone, my friends stock Desire HD is still on Android 2.2. When she looks for updates via her phone it says its up to date when its clearly not. The phone was bought outright and is sim-lock free and unbranded.
Is there anyway to make the phone update to the latest official Desire HD rom without rooting?
No, eventually the HTC servers will pickup on the phone... OTA is unpredictable when it comes to the company, give it a week... Or just call HTC and they could send to the phone. Its worth a try.

Google release the update to HTC, then HTC to your carrier and your carrier to you.
The weakest link being your carrier. If it hasn't happened by now, it probably wont. HTC have released to many new models for the carriers to keep up with.
It may be worthwhile contacting the carrier.

Thanks for the replies. The carrier shouldn't be an issue since the device was bought outright without any branding so the updates should come directly from HTC. The support page on HTC website suggests a soft reset. I think my friend should just call HTC and see what they can do. Thanks!

Just root. I worried about OTA a lot before rooting, when will it come, will it ever etc..
couldn't agree more, after rooting i have fallen in love with my phone all over again
Is it possible to install the Google Play KitKat version for the One (M8) onto the Verizon One (M8)? I really want this phone, but I can not stand the HTC Sense that plagues its. I know things would have to be changed around since the Play Store version of the M8 is GSM. But I couldn't find any mention here on XDA of a port of the Play Store version to the Verizon model.

VZW users are pretty screwed in this respect, if you're tired of all the hardware restrictions Verizon forces upon its customers then you're best off dropping them and switching to a different carrier even if it means a small sacrifice in reception and coverage. I switched from Verizon to ATT then to Tmobile and yes my coverage isn't as good but it's more than adequate and more important I have total freedom of phone hardware to use.
I have the GPe M8 on order and waiting for it soon.

Unfortunately switching to a different Carrier in my area is not an option. I was with AT&T for 6 Years, but moved to a new state/town where any GSM carrier has little to no Service, you might have service in the left corner of the yard, but none in the right corner, and don't even think about going inside a store/building otherwise you'll have no service no matter what corner you head too...
I just really hate the Sense UI. Is there an option to turn off the HTC Feed Screen (left most homescreen) on the M8 like there is on the HTC One Max? I hate how they have those really tiny Navigation icon on that huge black navigation bar. Just seems like a waste of space, imo.
Hopefully someone, somewhere will make a vanilla ROM (keeping the dot matrix, tap unlock, etc,) some day.
Well here's the thing with Verizon, the M8 Verizon MID is the only M8 blocked on HTC Dev, meaning you can't unlock the BL as simply as the other variants...Also the with VZW you're dealing with CDMA and well most Variants including GPE is GSM...the chances of an AOSP/Vanilla non sense ROM on a VZW M8 arent as good as the GSM Variants so long as the BL remains locked. An exploit will have to be found before anything happens on the VZW M8.

Well thats good to know, well bad actually... I've always had Unlocked/Google GSM device since the Nexus was first released, so I was not aware of all that (BS) surrounding VZW/CDMA devices. The LG G2 was the first locked/unroot (I never rooted it) device I've had in years, and the First CDMA device as well. So Thank you for the little bit of information, its makes me hate VZW more and more :good:
Well fingers crossed something happens, as I really want the HTC One (M8), but I really don't want the Sense UI - Even though the Camera is a downgrade from my G2. The good thing about going from the G2 to the HTC One (M8) is that I'll still be able to Tap to wake it... I'm constantly tapping on friends and family members phones trying to turn the screen on, at takes me a couple seconds to remember it does work like that.
Do you use the One (M8) as your daily driver, if so any complaints about it thus far?
