So I am days away from junking my iPhone and coming over to the android world...
I've got my eyes on the HTC Desire HD... My current carrier is Fido and a friend of mine is open to selling me his Telus HTC Desire HD. I know that once it is unlocked I can use my Fido SIM card in it... What I don't know is whether or not I will be able to update to Android 2.3 with an unlocked phone.
Alternatively, would it be better for me to go with an unlocked AT&T HTC phone since (from my understanding... which is limited lol) their 3G networks seem to operate on the same frequencies...
I'm not tech savvy... I just want a fun android phone and still be able to get the android updates.
Thanks

I use another service provider and was considering getting HTC Desire, but the only thing Desire lacked was a load of internal memory which incredible took care off.
So is this an exclusive Verizon phone ?
if not, how long would it take for it to be sold sim-free.
Thanks
Its a CDMA phone so its never gonna be sold "sim-free" Maybe they'll make a similar model for GSM but you will probably never see this exact phone in GSM
HTC has stated this phone is a Verizon exclusive.
is there any free way to unlock the t-mobile G2
have done a search but can´t find any thing
Do you mean the MyTouch 3G? There is no phone with the title "G2" that I'm aware of. If you did mean the MT3G, then yes, there are plenty of options available to you, ranging from just granting root access to loading custom roms of Android 2.1, and hopefully soon 2.2. I just recently "unlocked" (generally reffered to as "rooted") my phone and upgrade to Android 2.1, very easy after I did a couple hours of reasearch. It is well worth your time, the phone really does have a lot more potential then it lets on straight out of the box. Best of luck,

SIM Unlock for T-Mobile G2
Hi,
Yeah i've also got a T-Mobile G2 in the UK which I have used the GoldCard method to convert to a Hero. I have upgraded it to 2.1. It is still locked to T-Mobile. Does anyone know how to do the SIM Unlock?
freg25,
still waiting for my phone to arrive, was it easy to Root with the GoldCard method?
found this site that offers unlocking don´t know how much they charge

If I were to purchase a fully unlocked HTC Pro 2 how would I go about getting it on the Boost Network. I currently have 2 accounts one is a IDEN account w/ (Motorola I1) and the other CDMA account w/ (Sanyo Incognito). I am new to this but the android I got needs a little more twinking before they put another one out. You can buy unlocked phones already unlocked just have to get them serviced. If I can't purchase one that is already unlocked how do I go about unlocking it.
i dont know abut IDEN but there is no such thing as an "unlocked" CDMA phone, they dont really have them locked anyway, but i doubt boost will activate one on their network, and an unlocked GSM TP2 wont work since AFAIK boost doesnt have a GSM network
ok
So say I can't get one aleady unlocked and I get one from lets say ebay how would i be able to use it on the boost network. I don't know how to do this all i am trying to do is get a better phone.
Hi all,
I am not sure what subforum to post it so forgive me if I've chosen wrong...
I have an unlocked HTC Desire HD bought in Europe (Poland in particular). I am currently in US for some time and to my surprise it does not work with AT&T GoPhone SimCard I hoped to use it with. The phone says "no simcard"...
Does anybody here knows what's the reason? Is there a way to correct it (load a different ROM onto the device?)? Or - if it's impossible to fix with AT&T - what are my options for finding a prepaid (I won't be here for a year to justify signing on for a full year contract) card that will work with this phone and have some decent data plan?
Poland uses GSM network and usually in US they use CDMA so it is not possible to use your DHD in US if the carrier uses other network than GSM because the 2 radios are completely different. Not sure if this can be changed but doubt it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I don't think this is a case.... This phone is AFAIK the same phone in technical terms as HTC Inspire being sold in US. This is a quad-band and is working in US with Polish sim-card in roaming mode (with horrendous prices of course). So this is something with a sim-card and/or radio-software compatibility. I would push for the first one as the phone is saying "no sim-card" signalling problems with recognizing it.
Hey
i think your problem lies in the frequencies used by european phones, arent the same as in us... on my old HD2 you could change the freq, but afaik its not possible with android phones... check this chart http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
hope u solve the prob.

Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple...
Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple... I believe the incompatibility is somewhere at the either sim card (being rigged in some special way by ATT) or radio software. The HTC Desire HD is a quad-band phone accodring to it's specs (I've checked at the GSMArena . COM). I've seen reports on the internet that people managed to run GoPhone simcards on unlocked HTC android-based phones. I just kind find any information about what might be wrong (incompatible) with my handset
Thank you for your replies anyway - hope someone will have other ideas what to do, otherwise I am stuck with $20 "phone" I got with my gophone card which is making me upset while having a proper phone not working...
RESOLVED!
I managed to google out the information that ATT is somehow locking the GoPhone simcard to the phone it was bundled with. I had to call Customer Support to get it unlocked which they did. Now my Desire HD is properly working with data plan accessible
Thanks for anybody who was trying to help me with this.
Regards!
HTC European Phone on AT&T
Hi There,
Does anybody know the access point configurations for an HTC Legend (or similar european HTC device) to access data on GoPhone on AT&T?
Thankss
hi so I am looking at buying a new htc 10 for verizon. I am aware that I will not be able to use it on the verizon network unless I root it and tweak some things. On the other hand I could buy the verizon htc 10 and send it to get unlocked. I'm not sure what to do for a couple reasons.
1. If I unlock the verizon phone, will I then be able to use it on GSM networks at a later time and can I get rid of ALL the bloatware (DT Ignite, NFL Mobile, etc...) that an unlocked phone purchased straight from HTC would have?
2. I'm not completely phone literate, but I did root my LG G2 for limited purposes. I'm a college student who studies electronics so I don't imagine it'll be too difficult with guides and youtube but i just dont want to **** up and brick a brand new phone. So would it be worth the effort to root an unlocked phone for verizon or should i just save myself the trouble and get the verizon phone and get it rooted for me?
3. Will my coverage with verizon be the same on an unlocked htc 10?
Thanks in advance guys! much appreciated.
