To determine if the phone is the AWS version of the HTC VISION (both phones are actually the SAME phone, with different amplifiers), check the top of the screen -- it will say T--Mobile. Also, at the bottom of the BACK COVER (not the battery cover, the actual phone back cover), the AWS version will say "with Google". The non-AWS version will say "with HTC Sense".
Note that any of the pieces could be exchanged if the phone was ever damaged, so the only REAL way to tell is to ask HTC given the IMEI (which also could easily be changed in this phone).
The TRUE ONLY way to tell is to try to sign it on to a UMTS network and verify the supported frequencies.

I have AT&T and wanted to switch to the hd2 but don't have a grand to get the verSion that supports USA 3g and the desire seems to have it all the same except a smaller screen. So, where's the cheapest place to order it ATM? I will also need the 32gb card too. . As long as I can get word on it and use my Bluetooth keyboard (damn u iPhone!) I'll be happy as can be. Thanks guys.
You are aware that the Desire is a completely different phone to the HD2? It isn't "almost the same" because the Desire runs Android, and the HD2, Windows Mobile.
Therefore, you'll never get true "Word" on it, though DocumentsToGo is broadly compatible.
I'd also imagine that it wouldn't work out much cheaper to get the Desire with US 3G bands than the HD2 as I guess you'd have to import a Telstra Desire from Australia.
Regards.
Dave
Sorry, what I meant was that the specs of the two units were nearly the same other than the screen size. I know they run a different OS, which I have heard that the android os is way better.
Also, I was under the impression that the HD2 was the only phone that needed to be the australia version to work on the att 3g.
I also thought that the desire was an AT&T phone anyway, so I had no idea I would have to get that version for it to have 3G. If that is in fact the case, i just cant seem to win. LOL.
Let me know if you can. Thanks for the response.
If we have the G2 will we be able to use the new HTC Sense services/Website? I've created an account and it now wants me to log in from my phone with Sense. Can we add it to the G2 or is that not an option?
I don't believe so since the G2 doesn't have sense...maybe after root has been completed.

No it will not work, HTCSense.com is only supported on 2 devices at launch being the Desire Z and the Desire HD both running the newest version of HTC Sense.
You do realise that while they are almost identical twins, the G2 is basically a T-mo branded phone? Its like, hey HTC make me a phone and HTC takes the Desire Z design, strips it all of what's HTC (software wise) and then sell it to Tmo, which then sells it to you.
The Desire Z on the other hand, is sold by HTC with their Sense software on board. This i believe will make the Desire Z definately pricier than the G2, because you are paying for HTC's software and services. Tmo on the other hand, (my guess) does not pay HTC for any software services, just the hardware, hence why G2 can be cheap, and also why it SHOULD NOT get to use the HTCSense.com services.
Now once rooted, who knows whether it'll be able to use it or not. It all depends on how HTCSense.com verifies the phone. If it verifies based on software, then perhaps a root and custom rom with HTC Sense are all it takes to be able to use the HTCSense.com service. But if the website verifies the phone by matching IMEI or SN with phone model, then i think the G2 would never get HTCSense.com services.
Edit: Seems like someone managed to sign into the service with a Desire HD ROM. Hurrah?!

Looking for info to get a US Cellular Desire working on the Verizon Network
so far:
Rooted S-off
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7632904/52105.rar Verizon PRL's updated using ##775#
Unlock code for edit access to EPST ##778#
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-540455.html Copied settings from this page to use in EPST
Right now I've got the phone on the Verizon Network (sorta the lock screen says "preferred system") but I still can't get *228 to "activate" (option 1) or "update roaming" (option 2) both options ask me to call VZW support from a landline
up next:
I have yet to have Verizon update the phone with this phone's ESN
interested in trying these RUU's anyone have any feedback on where they came from or which is best? http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-540455.html but concerned with how the RUU_DesireC_2.36 may conflict with my phone
Ideas? I've spent all day today searching and working on this and have yet to find one decent post with a clear outline on how to move this phone to verizon.
U have to modify the phone's esn and meid number. Research HTC evo on boost. There is a guide out there.
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA App
Do NOT use DesireC RUU! The desirec is the board name for the HTC Eris. The boardname for the Desire model phone is bravoc.
Confusing, yes.
yay
All seems well... The ESN and MEID are now correct but I'm still not getting into the verizon network...
The PRL is up to date and I was able to *228 option 1 on verizon but now nothing seems to work.
Also nothing shows in my "phone identity" information except for the "model number" which still reflects it being a USCC device... is this possible to change and why doesn't my meid phone number or imsi show? All say unknown or not available though they read fine in the ##778# EPST menus
...Any updates?
How functional is the phone so far with your attempts?
Can you post some DIY steps you took to do some of the programming?
I Just got an USCC HTC Desire from a friend of mine and I have Verizon service. I was looking into a way to start using the phone on Verizon's network. I'm still new to the whole programming aspect of Android; but I'm a fast learner!
I have hte Desire rooted using the unrEVOked 3 method so far.
Any updates at all? Getting an Alltel HTC Desire for my wife and would really like to know that I can get it onto Verizon Wireless without issue.
Please let me us know if this DID or DID NOT work!
Thanks!
-Elo
Any update to this? I'd like to get a US Cellular CDMA Desire for use on Verizon ... but not if it won't work ...
bringing back a dead thread to life, but i would also like to know if anyone was succesful as i am considering purchasing a desire. thanks!
I too, would like to know if this can be done. I'd like to give my Desire as a present to a close friend on VZW. Sorry for the resurrection.
Hahaha, if we're all trying to keep this thing on life support, I might as well throw in. I, too, would like to know if it's possible to use a USC phone on Verizon (and how).
Carry on.
I saw a guy on the CM boards claim he successfully did it, claiming he'd release a video, but no such luck. I bumped it there too, although I'm likely just going to sell mine.
I believe you can send your device to Verizon and they'll program & activate it for a fee..
"Any Apps, Any Device" is the name of the program.
Hi all,
I am not sure what subforum to post it so forgive me if I've chosen wrong...
I have an unlocked HTC Desire HD bought in Europe (Poland in particular). I am currently in US for some time and to my surprise it does not work with AT&T GoPhone SimCard I hoped to use it with. The phone says "no simcard"...
Does anybody here knows what's the reason? Is there a way to correct it (load a different ROM onto the device?)? Or - if it's impossible to fix with AT&T - what are my options for finding a prepaid (I won't be here for a year to justify signing on for a full year contract) card that will work with this phone and have some decent data plan?
Poland uses GSM network and usually in US they use CDMA so it is not possible to use your DHD in US if the carrier uses other network than GSM because the 2 radios are completely different. Not sure if this can be changed but doubt it.

I don't think this is a case.... This phone is AFAIK the same phone in technical terms as HTC Inspire being sold in US. This is a quad-band and is working in US with Polish sim-card in roaming mode (with horrendous prices of course). So this is something with a sim-card and/or radio-software compatibility. I would push for the first one as the phone is saying "no sim-card" signalling problems with recognizing it.
Hey
i think your problem lies in the frequencies used by european phones, arent the same as in us... on my old HD2 you could change the freq, but afaik its not possible with android phones... check this chart http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
hope u solve the prob.

Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple...
Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple... I believe the incompatibility is somewhere at the either sim card (being rigged in some special way by ATT) or radio software. The HTC Desire HD is a quad-band phone accodring to it's specs (I've checked at the GSMArena . COM). I've seen reports on the internet that people managed to run GoPhone simcards on unlocked HTC android-based phones. I just kind find any information about what might be wrong (incompatible) with my handset
Thank you for your replies anyway - hope someone will have other ideas what to do, otherwise I am stuck with $20 "phone" I got with my gophone card which is making me upset while having a proper phone not working...
RESOLVED!
I managed to google out the information that ATT is somehow locking the GoPhone simcard to the phone it was bundled with. I had to call Customer Support to get it unlocked which they did. Now my Desire HD is properly working with data plan accessible
Thanks for anybody who was trying to help me with this.
Regards!
HTC European Phone on AT&T
Hi There,
Does anybody know the access point configurations for an HTC Legend (or similar european HTC device) to access data on GoPhone on AT&T?
Thankss
I bought an htc desire off of ebay it turns out it was not unlocked like they said and in fact was a us cellular phone which I cant even get in my area so my question is can someone tell me if and how I can unlock it or what other carrier I could use it on it is also a cdma phone thank you
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you can use CDMA in Europe..
Maybe things have changed since I last checked. I wanted to buy a DoCoMo phone and had this problem.
Good luck!
