Cheapest place to get the desire and a 32 gb card - Desire General

I have AT&T and wanted to switch to the hd2 but don't have a grand to get the verSion that supports USA 3g and the desire seems to have it all the same except a smaller screen. So, where's the cheapest place to order it ATM? I will also need the 32gb card too. . As long as I can get word on it and use my Bluetooth keyboard (damn u iPhone!) I'll be happy as can be. Thanks guys.

You are aware that the Desire is a completely different phone to the HD2? It isn't "almost the same" because the Desire runs Android, and the HD2, Windows Mobile.
Therefore, you'll never get true "Word" on it, though DocumentsToGo is broadly compatible.
I'd also imagine that it wouldn't work out much cheaper to get the Desire with US 3G bands than the HD2 as I guess you'd have to import a Telstra Desire from Australia.
Regards.
Dave

Sorry, what I meant was that the specs of the two units were nearly the same other than the screen size. I know they run a different OS, which I have heard that the android os is way better.
Also, I was under the impression that the HD2 was the only phone that needed to be the australia version to work on the att 3g.
I also thought that the desire was an AT&T phone anyway, so I had no idea I would have to get that version for it to have 3G. If that is in fact the case, i just cant seem to win. LOL.
Let me know if you can. Thanks for the response.

Htc touch pro2 ii unlocked t7373

Haven't been to this website in a while ... Been using an iPhone for about a year .. Tried some of the [supposed] iPhone killers. Xperia and others, but I didn't like them. I have this phone coming tomorrow ..
HTC TOUCH PRO2 II UNLOCKED T7373
Am I in the right place ?? HTC has so many phones. This one that I am getting is the European model, 2 cameras .. I was due for a free upgrade from Tmobile but that phone looked awful compared to this version .. Are the models different ? I don't think Tmobile has to cameras, I don't need 2 but if I can have 2, I want them.

Hi Diane,
The model you got (unlocked unbranded HTC TP2) will work here in the states, but I don't believe that you will be able to use T-mobile's 3G bands on it, so your data would only be EDGE (i.e. slower). Unless I'm mistaken, Tmo is the ONLY carrier in the world that uses their specific 3G bands, so unless you buy a phone branded by T-mobile, odds are you won't get 3G with it.
Now as far as the dual cameras....that's another thing that no US carrier has implemented, yet. The phone may have the camera, but if the provider you're using doesn't have that capability setup on their network, it's not much good to you I'm afraid. I believe I've seen some upcoming models for AT&T that advertise a front camera, so I believe they're about to introduce that capability...but as for now, none of the carriers here can do that
But yes, you're in the right place....every model of this phone is technically a "HTC Rhodium", no matter what carrier model (or unbranded) it is. So, these are the forums you want to be in, to learn more than you ever wanted to know about your new toy
Thanks for your reply and info. My Tmobile contract is up for renewal on this one. June for the contract that my HTC shift uses... I am wondering if I should renew or just go with ATT .. they seem to have better phones and better service .. anyone agree ??

The best people to ask that are the ones that live or work in close proximity to you...it doesn't really mean a hill of beans what anybody's reception is like anywhere but where you'll most often use the phone Find a friend with AT&T and compare coverage with them side-by-side in different places.
Be careful about switching carriers because one or the other seems to get "better phones"...that can change with the wind, and you may find the only one phone you really want, went to the carrier you chose not to go with lol. Also, carriers and manufacturers negotiate new agreements for almost every new phone that gets made, so one carrier may get several great new phones this quarter, but nothing truly decent for months and months, so...just pick your carrier based on your service needs (price, coverage, signal quality, etc), there will always be a way to get a phone you like no matter which you choose.
My service needs are simple. I don't care about 3G. But if I did, Tmobiles is different than anyone elses. I never really use the browser on my phone. I check my eBay auctions on my phone, but not with a browser. My iphone "has an app for that."
What disappoints me most about Tmobile is that not many of the new phones work with Tmobile. iphone doesn't. My iphone cost me about $700 because I had to get it from Italy where it was unlocked by Apple. I bricked my other one. The Blackberry Bold 9000 also wasn't unlocked for Tmobile. And there are others.
Even their website is HORRIBLE .. I have been with them for about 10 years. It is time I stopped waiting for them to get with the program.

Desire Z - counting down the days

Well I'm definitely planning on getting the new Desire Z, finally officially announced by HTC today, as soon as it comes out in the UK. Love the keyboard espcially.
Is there a separate area for this new version or will chat stay here? And has anyone heard anything officially about how soon T-Mobile in the UK will get it?
Andre
Only on VodaFone isnt it?
dont know how long before others will pick it up
Vodafone for now, others might take it but no news as yet
Surely it'll be released sim free though?

what do you mean?
Personally I wouldn't buy any phone unless it's sim free. You pay for the phone through the contract anyway and the network messes with it. Sim only contracts are much cheaper and you can change phone when you like, selling the old one.
well, IMHO I don't really see what all the thus is about! the european 4g is pretty nice and would swap it for my Desire.. but the Z, not the nicest of phones is it? well, at least HTC will finally be as famous and as popular as Nokia or SE YES! I* cant really believe it but, I am the only person in my school that has the desire! YES! but it is pretty hard to type onder the table.. ;/
xx
If I'm going to be paying for a contract anyway (as I would need airtime whatever phone I get) then it just makes sense to me to get a free phone from them too, rather than paying £400-£500 on top of what I'm going to pay them anyway.
Of course, I'd probably unlock it and install a much cleaner ROM after a while, as I have done with previous smartphones.
I had assumed that T-Mobile in the UK would be doing the same as the US T-Mobile have already announced, and rebranding it as the G2?

Probably, but I would think they would only do this if it was a T-Mobile exclusive in the UK. As for Vodafone, according to an article on engadget, the Desire Z is exclusive to Vodafone in Spain and Australia so far.

Doesn't it have a 800 Mhz OLD proccesor?
I mean yeah.. the keyboard is grate... but i don't even like to imagine a slower phone again.
What exactly is the main attraction of this phone for you ?

Correct. A lot of manufacturers are now looking into dual core processors for mobiles. It's hard to imagine most mobiles are now more powerful than a pc from just a couple of years ago.

Don't know about that, TMob UK was the only wing of the German owned TMob that wasn't turning a profit and has been sold to Orange (French owned), so I'm not sure if TMob US is relevant.
And when it comes to sim free you should add up what you pay over your 18-24 month contract and then minus the cost of the phone and the same amount of time sim only. If you wait a month you'll find the phone costs considerably less than on launch day. Even if you don't it still works out similar pricewise.

The keyboard mainly, as long as the rest of the phone is pretty good too. Pure processor speed is never the only measurement of how 'good' a phone is, any more than that is true of PCs. One of the main reasons I won't go down the iPhone route is the lack of any proper tactile interface (that and being locked into what Apple want me to to). Yes I'm a little disappointed it's not 1Ghz, but at least I'll be able to use it!

That's what puzzles me - surely I'll pay the same amount for my current contract over the next 18-24 months whether or not I buy or upgrade to a new phone (OK, I might get a small loyalty discount if I don't upgrade). So the cost of buying an unbranded phone is purely extra cost. That's not to say I won't do it if I have to, but it just seems to make more sense to get it free.
Andre
When your contract is up you could ask to be transferred to a sim only plan, or do the upgrade through someone like Carphone Warehouse as they use unbranded phones.

Or immediately sell your branded one, and buy an unbranded one

[Q] Sim card on Telus Desire HD

One stupid question. Can I put a different Sim card in the Telus Desire HD out of the box? I will try to buy one directly from the Telus website, and I won't be using it in Canada, so do I need to activate it or something before I can use it with a different type of sim card?
It's amazing how hard it is to get a new phone with the right 3G bands!! In my country the only 3G bands available are 850/1900, just like AT&T, so the Desire HD will be the next best thing after the Nexus One.
Thanks for your help.
Yes, mine was bought unlocked, and works perfectly with At&t. Telus version, of course. I can answer any other questions you might have.
Thanks for your help. You got the AT&T 3G bands working then? And how did you get yours? Because the Telus website won't send phones outside Canada. Mabey Ebay is an option.
And also, I've heard that it's easy to root the phone using unrevoked, and maybe that way you can use some kind of flavor of Gingerbread. Maybe CM7.
Thanks for your help.
I got it from here: http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-hd-ace-sense-850-1900-3gblack-unlocked.html
I pre-ordered it Dec. 29th, and forgot about it completely. I was going to get the At&t version, but they sent a email saying it already shipped!
Either way, I haven't rooted it yet b/c people have been saying that they've lot sound with the s-off method. I probably will when more people are successful
Thank you. I will consider that site. And I agree with you, it's better to wait until the root process is reliable.
Thanks for your help.

[Q] CDMA Desire and the effects of switching networks. Any info?

Huzzah noob questions!
Recently, my phone's screen head-butted a microphone and now the touchscreen doesn't work. US Cellular would like ~$250 to 500 (refurb and new, respectively) for a replacement. I love the phone, but I can't just part with that much money without doing a little research.
Fast forward to now: I've looked on eBay (and many other dealers, carriers, etc.) for a used phone as getting a new plan elsewhere would still be too expensive. I found a couple used ones for ~100 from a highly rated source and it leaves me wondering a few thoughts:
-Does the phone differentiate at all going from carrier to carrier? Or, does a cdma desire mean a cdma desire?
-I have heard that US Cellular will activate the used phone once I purchase one. Anyone have any experiences with this kind of support through them, htc desire or otherwise?
-Are there any other places to look for a used/new htc desire? I'm currently checking local craigslist ads and finding prices slightly higher than eBay. I figured at least they could show me the phone was functional if I chose to go that route.
Thanks for any/all help you can send my way.

[Q] Making European HTC Desire HD work with AT&T GoPhone

Hi all,
I am not sure what subforum to post it so forgive me if I've chosen wrong...
I have an unlocked HTC Desire HD bought in Europe (Poland in particular). I am currently in US for some time and to my surprise it does not work with AT&T GoPhone SimCard I hoped to use it with. The phone says "no simcard"...
Does anybody here knows what's the reason? Is there a way to correct it (load a different ROM onto the device?)? Or - if it's impossible to fix with AT&T - what are my options for finding a prepaid (I won't be here for a year to justify signing on for a full year contract) card that will work with this phone and have some decent data plan?
Poland uses GSM network and usually in US they use CDMA so it is not possible to use your DHD in US if the carrier uses other network than GSM because the 2 radios are completely different. Not sure if this can be changed but doubt it.

I don't think this is a case.... This phone is AFAIK the same phone in technical terms as HTC Inspire being sold in US. This is a quad-band and is working in US with Polish sim-card in roaming mode (with horrendous prices of course). So this is something with a sim-card and/or radio-software compatibility. I would push for the first one as the phone is saying "no sim-card" signalling problems with recognizing it.
Hey
i think your problem lies in the frequencies used by european phones, arent the same as in us... on my old HD2 you could change the freq, but afaik its not possible with android phones... check this chart http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
hope u solve the prob.

Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple...
Once again - I am afraid it's not that simple... I believe the incompatibility is somewhere at the either sim card (being rigged in some special way by ATT) or radio software. The HTC Desire HD is a quad-band phone accodring to it's specs (I've checked at the GSMArena . COM). I've seen reports on the internet that people managed to run GoPhone simcards on unlocked HTC android-based phones. I just kind find any information about what might be wrong (incompatible) with my handset
Thank you for your replies anyway - hope someone will have other ideas what to do, otherwise I am stuck with $20 "phone" I got with my gophone card which is making me upset while having a proper phone not working...
RESOLVED!
I managed to google out the information that ATT is somehow locking the GoPhone simcard to the phone it was bundled with. I had to call Customer Support to get it unlocked which they did. Now my Desire HD is properly working with data plan accessible
Thanks for anybody who was trying to help me with this.
Regards!
HTC European Phone on AT&T
Hi There,
Does anybody know the access point configurations for an HTC Legend (or similar european HTC device) to access data on GoPhone on AT&T?
