Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster here. I rooted my Droid Incredible in order to upgrade to the leaked OTA 2.2 update, then decided after a while to downgrade back to 2.1 using mejdam's method in order to get the official OTA 2.2 update. I was able to root using unrEVOked not too long ago but ended up downgrading again to 2.1 because I started to have multiple reboot problems with the phone. I'm now back to the official 2.2 update and now when I try to root again with unrEVOked it gives me the error "internal error: cannot find misc". What am I doing wrong? The phone still works correctly, I just cannot apply root anymore. Thoughts? Thank you!

I've tried twice already and every time the recovery gives that error, with the little android next to a warning sign. All I can do si reboot and try again... Would this have anything to do with the fact that my Desire went swimming a few weeks ago? Or maybe that I put a custom recovery image on it? If so, how can I put the stock one back on?
I have the original rom, but rootet and get the same issue.
F*** - i rootet mine on thursday because i read HTC is issuing froyo on the desire in december - 4 days later i could do OTA, but now i get this stupid error because (i think so) do not have an original recovery menu anymore.
can ANYBODY provide
*update of recovery mode
*trick/hack to install anyway
*a way back to a non-rooted device
?
THANKS DUDES!
I have the same problem, but don't think its because your pjone went for a swim or the root because i have an un rooted debranded unswimed desire...so any help from any one?
IEF on irc helped me heaps. I'm now rooted and running his rooted version of the OTA update. Updated without wiping, everything was saved.
This is the link to his rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7464523
If you want root, run unrevoked 3.1 and if that doesn't work, find him on irc.freenode.net in #modaco.
same here
It happened the same to me...and it was because i had previously rooted the phone with unrevoked. If you didnt keep an image of the original firmware, search for this file RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe if your bootloader is 0.8, it is the original firmware and execute the file on a windows computer ( before you install htc sync to get the drivers ). Then you'll be able to upgrade to froyo. If your bootloader is another you need another firmware....i dont remember where i saw the links.
i have rooted desire with froyo,i was due an upgrade to 2.29.405 etc .being rooted i failed to upgrade,i then d/loaded the full RUU to my computer, connect via USB in charge mode,10 mins. d/load .installed, working& phone no longer rooted.
Hello,
i have the same problem
after i upgraded to android 2.2
there was only one problem
i cant backup
so i installed rom manager
and this problem appeared
anyone can help?
Hello All,
I have an EVO that was running 1.47 (rooted) with no issues. In anticipation for a 100% bugless Froyo ROM I unrooted with the 1.47 RUU so I wouldn't have any issues with the Official OTA. After HTC pulled the ROM I found the manual install version here at XDA and wanted to give it a shot.
While searching for the 3.26 "official" update I stumbled upon Ava's 2.2 ROM. I tried to reroot using SimpleRoot OTA and install Ava's ROM. Once I got to step four I received the error that the original version of the ROM was newer and it wouldn't finish. I tried to follow the steps found in thread ID 7454229 (can't post links yet) but received a Error 140: Bootloader Version Error. I figured that the rooted ROMs for 2.2 weren't far off and one of the geniuses here at XDA would have it rooted in a day or two - so I didn't think twice about just updating to the "official" HTC 2.2.
I received an email with Flipz' new Fresh v3 beta and wanted to jump ship back to the rooted world. When I attempt to reflash the 1.47 RUU I still receive the Error 140: Bootloader Version error. So I'm kind of stuck, I know I'm not rooted anymore (I get prompts from Quickboot and ROM Manager) and I can't flash to an older version to re-root. I've searched and tried repeated times with no success - can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance for all of your help!
Wait, so are you on 1.47 or on Froyo? I'm a bit confused. If you are on 1.47, then you shouldn't have a problem rooting using one of the 1.47 root methods. If you are on Froyo, you are screwed for the time being.
I'm on the 3.26 Froyo update. I was trying to get back to 1.47 via the RUU to reroot with SimpleRoot OTA. Sorry for the long winded, confusing post. I was just trying to provide as many details as possible. I kind of conceded to just waiting for the official 2.2 OTA and an XDAer to root it. I'm just impatient and really want to try out Fresh v3 and Fresh Kitchen.
Thanks for the quick reply!

same thing happened to me after using unrevoked....but now everything is ok
and keep your money...buy something cool for your newly fully rooted phone
HI,
where can i find this "trying using toasts how to unlock NAND"?
IF i find this then do i need to use unrevoked or simpleroot?
Thank You
Wiki
Toast has written a two-part guide to rooting. Then there are other threads that already outline how to get around the Main Version is Older error. Simple Root is basically an automated version of toast's method. Unrevoked is not recommended as it's not a full root.
Had the same issue with a firend
My friend had the same issue, we ended up figuring out it was the HTC Sync software that caused the issue. Try uninstalling that, rebooting and trying again. I think he tried unrevoked 3 after he uninstalled his and it finally took.
Move Flash_image
Had this issue with Simple Click Root, had to move Flash_Image from the Simple Root folder onto the ROOT of the SD card. Then I ran the simple root program again and it completed successfully.
I ran into the same error that you are running into when using SimpleRoot. I ended up using this guide instead:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1853598&postcount=792
It is more involved than SimpleRoot, but the guide is very much step-by-step and detailed. It might take you a bit more time, but remember, you only have to do it once.
I had this problem over and over, I eventually got through with Simpleroot OTA
it took me a long time to get mine fully rooted, but once it worked it was worth it.
Try blanking your SD card (after backing it up, of course)
I've rooted 3 Evos now. Once with Toast's 1 & 2, once with SimpleRoot (one try success), and the third, well, I did simpleroot again and it was giving me "Main Version is Older" 3 or times in a row. After racking my brain, reading and searching the error for about 2 hours, I just tried it again, and vioala! It worked. Man I was getting mad too!
If you continue to have problems, try copying the PC36IMG to your SD card via "Disk Drive" then execute simpleroot, instead of letting simpleroot push it over by itself. No idea if that's what finally did it for me becasue I tried so many things, but it did finally work, much to my surprise.
I posted this in a thread, but wasn't getting much response. Could really use your help. Btw, my phone is unrooted.
Two nights ago I downloaded the manual OTA update for the Droid Incredible from Android Central.
I installed it on the phone and everything seemed to be working properly until I got my first phone call. The ear speaker isn't working at all, but the speaker phone works fine.
I tried downgrading using a few links. I received one error: Main version is older. And another error: installation aborted - status 2 error.
If someone has a recommendation on what I should do next, that would be extremely helpful.
Does anyone have a proper link to downgrade back to 2.1?
I don't think you can unless you have S-OFF.
If I can't downgrade, do you know if I'll be able to get the OTA whenever it arrives?
Or are there any other ways to remedy my issue?
im also trying to re downgrade back to 2.1 but when you load the new OTA 2.2 it updates your hboot which is what is giving you that error message and at this time there is no way of downgrading
Hi all,
A long while back I used an old version of Unrevoked3 to root my 2.1, and I've since installed several of the 2.2 ROMs which has kept me happy. Now I'm really itching to delete some of the Sprint crapware, and I also noticed that even though I ran the WiMAX update, it didn't stick. Both of these issues are, from what I can tell, due to the fact that I do not have NAND unlocked.
So, rather than go and try one of the older methods to get NAND unlock that potentially involves downgrading the PRI, I decided to just try and run the latest Unrevoked 3.2 which does S-OFF, NAND Unlock, etc. I gave it a shot using the ROM I'm most currently running (the 3.28 Leak) and Unrevoked 3.2 is dying out at the "Waiting for Root" screen, probably because I am using a ROM that already has root. I spoke with the guys in the Unrevoked freenode IRC channel and some of them suggested trying to install an unrooted stock ROM, then run Unrevoked 3.2.
So, can someone point me to an unrooted .zip for the stock 2.2 ROM? I found an RUU .exe file here but I'm afraid that running this is going to remove my recovery, which I really don't want to do in case Unrevoked still doesn't work after installing the "Unrooted" 2.2. There's a link to a .zip ROM file in that thread, but the file is corrupt, I've tried downloading it twice and it won't flash and I can't unzip it from my PC (it says it's corrupt).
Failing this, any other suggestions to get Unrevoked 3.2 to play nicely with my pre-rooted Evo?
Thanks!
I found what I was looking for here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
This essentially puts your phone back to "Factory" 2.2. I ran this and then ran Unrevoked 3.2 and now I'm all up to date with full NAND unlock and S-OFF.
