[Q] Downgrade to 2.1? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I posted this in a thread, but wasn't getting much response. Could really use your help. Btw, my phone is unrooted.
Two nights ago I downloaded the manual OTA update for the Droid Incredible from Android Central.
I installed it on the phone and everything seemed to be working properly until I got my first phone call. The ear speaker isn't working at all, but the speaker phone works fine.
I tried downgrading using a few links. I received one error: Main version is older. And another error: installation aborted - status 2 error.
If someone has a recommendation on what I should do next, that would be extremely helpful.
Does anyone have a proper link to downgrade back to 2.1?

I don't think you can unless you have S-OFF.

If I can't downgrade, do you know if I'll be able to get the OTA whenever it arrives?
Or are there any other ways to remedy my issue?

im also trying to re downgrade back to 2.1 but when you load the new OTA 2.2 it updates your hboot which is what is giving you that error message and at this time there is no way of downgrading

[Q] Can't Flash Back to 1.47 with RUU

Hello All,
I have an EVO that was running 1.47 (rooted) with no issues. In anticipation for a 100% bugless Froyo ROM I unrooted with the 1.47 RUU so I wouldn't have any issues with the Official OTA. After HTC pulled the ROM I found the manual install version here at XDA and wanted to give it a shot.
While searching for the 3.26 "official" update I stumbled upon Ava's 2.2 ROM. I tried to reroot using SimpleRoot OTA and install Ava's ROM. Once I got to step four I received the error that the original version of the ROM was newer and it wouldn't finish. I tried to follow the steps found in thread ID 7454229 (can't post links yet) but received a Error 140: Bootloader Version Error. I figured that the rooted ROMs for 2.2 weren't far off and one of the geniuses here at XDA would have it rooted in a day or two - so I didn't think twice about just updating to the "official" HTC 2.2.
I received an email with Flipz' new Fresh v3 beta and wanted to jump ship back to the rooted world. When I attempt to reflash the 1.47 RUU I still receive the Error 140: Bootloader Version error. So I'm kind of stuck, I know I'm not rooted anymore (I get prompts from Quickboot and ROM Manager) and I can't flash to an older version to re-root. I've searched and tried repeated times with no success - can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance for all of your help!
Wait, so are you on 1.47 or on Froyo? I'm a bit confused. If you are on 1.47, then you shouldn't have a problem rooting using one of the 1.47 root methods. If you are on Froyo, you are screwed for the time being.
I'm on the 3.26 Froyo update. I was trying to get back to 1.47 via the RUU to reroot with SimpleRoot OTA. Sorry for the long winded, confusing post. I was just trying to provide as many details as possible. I kind of conceded to just waiting for the official 2.2 OTA and an XDAer to root it. I'm just impatient and really want to try out Fresh v3 and Fresh Kitchen.
Thanks for the quick reply!

[Q] Cant unroot please help...

I am taking my phone back to sprint today to get it replaced because of screen issues, but i cant seem to unroot it i have tried the ruu.exe files but they give me errors saying i need to update something, then i tried just flashing an older rom and updating to android 2.2 but it wont install the update, can anyone help me? i was thinking i could maybe flash an unrooted file from recovery but i dont know where to find one :/
You say the ruu.exe is asking to update something? Can you be more specific...I mean is it just asking you to update to the latest HTC Sync drivers? I am not sure if I can personally help but that info would render a better reply from someone who possible could...
it says error 140 bootloader version error the rom update utility cannot update your android phone please get the correct rom update utility and try again :/
There are 3 different versions...try the 1.47 one and see how it goes.
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
yeah i get the same error on all 3 :/
I assume you have done a factory reset then tried? I got no further clue but this ^bump^ in hopes someone more qualified can see your issue quicker...
yeah i have factory reset all 3 times i tried, all i can think of that would not make it work is i have the 2.2 radios installed on it could that be it? because i unrooted my roomates evo just fine and the only difference was he didnt have the newer radios on it
There are other ways but as I just posted in another thread...
I would re-run root with the simple root 1.47 edition...this would get you back to a fresh root. Then re-try the 1.47 RUU.exe...
This has saved me a couple of times...

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
yes i have.i tried using the ruu's but i keep getting an error saying wrong bootloader.i dont know what else to do.
If you don't care about losing root, use the 2.2 unofficial RUU file and see if that works.
where do i find that?
i found it but not sure if i wanna lose root.i just wanna be able to flash cyanogen mod.it wont let me but i can flash any other rom..i keep getting an error when flashing rom in recovery.something about bootloader.anybody have any ideas as to why i keep getting that error?

This is how I was able to unroot:
1. Ran the 1 Click SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition root program. This downgraded my evo to 1.17.651.1 while still mainting HBOOT .76.2000 (this is very important!)
2. Downloaded one of the RUU files (RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.exe), connected my evo and launched the update . Ensure you have the latest HTCSync software installed before running the program. I used version 2.0.40
I successfully unrooted my phone, and rooted it back to 1.47.xxx just as an academic exercise.
This should work for you. Also search the forum, there's a ton of info (albeit disorganized) on how to do this.

That's where I run into problems.my hboot is .79.000. I use the ruu and i get errors about wrong bootloader.and simpleroot doesn't work.the step where u type in the website doesn't work.i get a blue Lego block with a question mark.
Which version of SimpleRoot are you using? I used the most recent version of the app (the latest has just 2 buttons NOT 4). Make sure after downloading to use the update option to check for updates. For some strange reason, the Simpleroot app is able to downgrade your HBOOT to .76.2000 (I couldn't achieve that by manually completing steps 1 & 2 of Toastchf method AND running the RUU - it always came up with that error UNTIL I resorted to the SimpleRoot method.) Maybe someone else can chime in. Anyways, give it a try.

[Q] Updating an Unrevoked Desire

Hi guys, I'm confused.
I have a stock HTC Desire on Orange with 2.10.405.2. I've been having problems with the radio (losing data connectivity but not showing it, text messages being delayed for hours, etc) and decided to root it with Unrevoked and put a new radio and RIL pack on. Well, I did that OK (although the connectivity problems persist).
The trouble is that now there's an OTA update to 2.29.405.2, which I would quite like to try out. When I tried to run it, Clockwork Recovery gave a signature check error.
Could someone explain how to fix this? I don't mind losing root, but I would very much prefer to run an update rather than flash a rom and lose everything on the phone! A clear description of what's going on would be appreciated, cheers!
I'm pretty sure, running the OTA would brick your phone, thats why it wont go through, what you need to do it, flash an Stock rom on your phone, then do OTA
Read the Wiki or Ask in the Desire forum for more help
Oh my, this reply came in just after I had managed to start an update (by moving/renaming the update file to update.zip in the root directory and using clockwork recovery). And as I read the update, the phone had been on the HTC splash screen for quite some time...
I almost had a heart attack.
But it's booted now The update failed due to not having enough free memory.
I suppose I'll just have to back up what I can and flash the stock rom. It's really annoying that rooting the phone in order to give me more flexibility has taken away the option to update painlessly.... That is, unless someone can point me towards a rooted update file?
Oh, the radio I updated to was Radio Froyo 5.11.05.27 (I flashed the RIL zip file separately), I am not sure how much that could affect things.
too bad that my phone had enough memory and now I'm trying to flash a stock rom.
The 1st one I tried was 2.09, and it failed saying kind of "invalid ruu version".
Now downloading 2.29.....

[Q] Official Update Not Working

Hey guys, I should have posted this about a month (maybe even longer) ago, but I've been dealing with some health issues and couldn't be bothered. First off I have a rooted phone (with S-OFF) but I like keeping the stock sense build. I upgraded OTA to 2.2 some time ago, then there was an OTA update a few months after that (which I was able to install without any problems after I replaced a couple of files that had gotten modified), now this newer OTA update refuses to install.
It tells me it needs to reboot to start installing so I click the button to reboot and it counts down, but it never reboots. Is it somehow detecting that my phone is rooted? I would like to have the most up to date OTA update installed on my phone at all times so any help or ideas would be great (also I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but I've been afk for a bit so I might have missed some things).

Read this thread, it tells you how to get back to 2.2 stock, then download the latest Unrevoked to root again and obtain s-off...

Blah I have to go back to 2.2 stock? Oh well, it's not the worse thing in the world (I already had to do it once) and those are great instructions (plus I've wanted to have the latest version of Clockworkmod installed for a while and using Unrevoked means I won't have to mess with the payload/su/etc files). Thanks!
I also thought of something (kind of late though). I was using a custom kernel, which might have been the issue too. But I went ahead and re-enabled S-On, however now for some reason my phone is checking for errors on my SD card (no idea how long it will take, or why it's doing that), but does anyone have a link for that 17.7mb file of the 3.26.605.1 update? I found the full RUU, but it's huge and I rather just upgrade than possibly wipe everything out (and I don't know when my phone will have the OTA ready again). Thanks for any help!
Is it necessary to update or downgrade then upgrade the OS?

That seems to be what that linked thread says, but I don't believe that is correct (that's why I am looking for that 17.7mb OTA file). I was able to install the first 2.2 update (aka 2.2.1) without issue after I restored some files that were altered (either by rooting or installing the wireless tether app that's hosted on Google Code). However this OTA update (aka 2.2.2) isn't popping up again for me to install, so I am going to see if I can extract just the upgrade data from the official RUU. I have to wait until later tonight because I need my phone to be operational for another few hours but I'll post back with results (and files if need be =).
Yeah I tried the RUU update and as expected it did a total wipe... bringing back system via nandroid and will try something else.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969973 <= using Jay's thread, which is much like the post that was first given to me in this thread. Not re-enabling S-ON seems to be the problem... lesson learned, don't try shortcuts unless you know what you are doing (and I've been afk from the "Dinc Scene" too long for that =p.
Edit 2: Up to date and 100% working!
