Hi guys, I'm confused.
I have a stock HTC Desire on Orange with 2.10.405.2. I've been having problems with the radio (losing data connectivity but not showing it, text messages being delayed for hours, etc) and decided to root it with Unrevoked and put a new radio and RIL pack on. Well, I did that OK (although the connectivity problems persist).
The trouble is that now there's an OTA update to 2.29.405.2, which I would quite like to try out. When I tried to run it, Clockwork Recovery gave a signature check error.
Could someone explain how to fix this? I don't mind losing root, but I would very much prefer to run an update rather than flash a rom and lose everything on the phone! A clear description of what's going on would be appreciated, cheers!
I'm pretty sure, running the OTA would brick your phone, thats why it wont go through, what you need to do it, flash an Stock rom on your phone, then do OTA
Read the Wiki or Ask in the Desire forum for more help
Oh my, this reply came in just after I had managed to start an update (by moving/renaming the update file to update.zip in the root directory and using clockwork recovery). And as I read the update, the phone had been on the HTC splash screen for quite some time...
I almost had a heart attack.
But it's booted now The update failed due to not having enough free memory.
I suppose I'll just have to back up what I can and flash the stock rom. It's really annoying that rooting the phone in order to give me more flexibility has taken away the option to update painlessly.... That is, unless someone can point me towards a rooted update file?
Oh, the radio I updated to was Radio Froyo 5.11.05.27 (I flashed the RIL zip file separately), I am not sure how much that could affect things.
too bad that my phone had enough memory and now I'm trying to flash a stock rom.
The 1st one I tried was 2.09, and it failed saying kind of "invalid ruu version".
Now downloading 2.29.....

Hi guys, I'm at the end of my tether now!
My phone kept rebooting when using Navigation yesterday, then after the 3rd time it has just been stuck on the HTC boot screen and nothing will fix it.
I can't even get into recovery, so I cant do a nandroid restore.
I have been using Leedroid 2.2e with no problems before this.
I have tried flashing the latest RUU but because I had the latest Froyo already installed it wont work as it needs to be an older version on the phone.
I cant downgrade Froyo to an older version as I cant get into the phone to turn on USB debugging.
I have only had the phone 2 weeks, please help if possible.
If you use the 2.10.405.2 or 2.29.405.2 RUUs they should flash with no issues. Might be worth extracting out the ROM.zip from the RUU, rename it PB99IMG.zip, copy it to the sd card and go into HBOOT and it should revert back to stock (assuming it can read the card)
I tried flashing the 2.10.405.2 RUU but it fails halfway with a Customer ID error, and I know the goldcard is good so I thought it must be failing the check for older software version.
I also tried renaming and flashing the rom from the card, but the phone read the file and a progress bar went up the right hand side of the screen, then nothing, it just stopped.
I'm not really clued up on these things, but I have been doing a lot of reading on various forums.
Hey EddyOS, thanks for the heads up on the 2.29.405.2 RUU, that was what I needed to flash over my current rom.
All back and running now, after being up all night trying to fix it.
I'm scared to root and put a custom rom on now in case it happens again and I have to send it in for a warranty repair, that was my biggest worry.
Thanks again!
After installing unrevoked I am now having a problem with updates. It will start the update, the progress bar makes it about halfway thru, then the phone just locks and a soft reset to follow. I'm new to android, the phone is an EVO, and the only thing that has been done thus far is running unrevoked for the wireless tether. Please help out a noob.
From what I understand the update looks for the stock recovery image. Because your rooted via unrEVOked, your device has a custom recovery (ClockworkMod) installed. You have several options if you wanna do a little research but if your simply looking for an easy answer to your question I would recommend getting a copy of the latest RUU (ROM Update Utility) which will restore your EVO back to a factory fresh state and will allow you to install the update. You will loose root though so be warned. Look around in the EVO developement forum and grab the latest RUU, save to pc, connect your device via USB, run RUU and follow the prompts. Another option would be to find a ROM based off the lastest update. There really not hard to install and this is the perfect time to start learning the ins and outs of Android. If anything should go wrong you always have the RUU to fall back on. Here is the 3.70.651.1 RUU. NO need to manually check for the update, this will leave you with a clean install of the latest software. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9836069&postcount=67
Thanks for the info. I actually just moved off of an HD2, so its all greek to me, just not that familiar with it. But again, thanks for the useful info, will get on that right away.
I had the same issue ... Ended up flashing 2.1, OTA update, OTA update and then flashed superuser ... Of course I started out with unrevoked forever ...
If I'm correct the latest version of unrEVOked does the same thing as unrEVOked forever, I say this because I used unrEVOked 3 and after updating my device is still S-OFF but when I download the superuser app from the market I get errors when trying to install clockwork recovery via Rom manager. setCPU is also telling me I'm not rooted. Any advice?

Go down to the section that talks about reinstalling an official recovery ...
Thanks so much. Very simple yet so many people are looking for that exact solution. You saved me a ton of searching, thanks again.
Hello fellow forum members;
I have done a lot of searching on the forums and still cannot find clear steps as to going about upgrading my DINC from 2.1-update1 with baseband 1.00.03.04.06 to a 2.2 working rom. Most of the time, i'll download the zip and rename it 'update' but it will fail and abort.
Initially, I rooted, then followed the walkthrough video to UNroot. Now, ive been stuck on 2.1-update1 for days and my phone will not update to 2.2 OTA and im getting extremley frustrated. THis firmware is no good whatsoever. Can anyone help me in getting the CORRECT, WORKING zip package to load into recovery?? I'll paypal you cash if you get me up and running, without quesiton. Im desperate.
Thank you in advance!
If you are still unrooted with stock recovery, then follow the instructions at http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/31/manual-update-droid-incredible-to-android-2-2/
Be sure that when you rename your update.zip that it is in lowercase and that it's not inadvertently named update.zip.zip. Also, make sure that your sd card is formatted to fat32 rather than fat. That should put you where you need to be.
try dialing *#*#2432546#*#* and seeing if that updates it. should force a check for updates if they've been pushed by the carrier at all. works better than the check software updates in the settings.
Najaboy: Will try that right now, thank you for your replay man. My SD card is already in Fat32, so i'll dump it at the root and give it a shot.
Baram: i tried that, getting a 'success' message, yet the firmware still stayed at 2.1-update1
I will report back in a few minutes after folowing Najaboy's request.
Thanks again, guys.
Ok, got a 'Status 7' Error upon running the zip. Both downloaded files return a Status 7 error. I"ve looked up some help regarding this but the ones i've come across are not very clear, and sometimes the answer could be like...20 pages back from the first post due to down links and such.
Instantly regretting my root attempt.
Any ideas?
Check your current software build number. It should be 1.22.605.2 in order for the update to work.
My software number is infact 1.22.605.0
At this point, I'd probably just re-root and get S-OFF. After that, follow the tutorials for upgrading your HBOOT to .92 and radio to 2.15.00.7.28 via PB31IMG.zips. After that, you'll be able to use any of the 2.2 ROMs including a stock one.
It's a bit more involved and carries some risk if you don't follow the proper steps, but is the same upgrade path that I used.
The upgrade.zip path that we tried for you isn't going to work since your phone doesn't have the May OTA. I've done some searching and can't seem to find it available online anywhere and some members have indicated that VZW is no longer able to push it- instead offering certified like new replacement that have it.
Have you tried an RUU? My suggestion would be to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436 and try the "Part 2: 2.2 stock using OTA RUU"
Basically all you have to do is download this http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip
Make sure your SD card is formatted as FAT32.
Put the PB31IMG-3.21.605.1_RUU.zip to your SDCard, rename it to PB31IMG.zip
Boot into HBOOT (PWR + VOL Down) wait a bit and it will ask you if you want to update. (VOL + UP) It will then update to the stock 2.2, with the 2.15.00.07.28 radio.
Also DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY! And make sure you have a good charge.
Then you can re-root using the latest UnrEVOked, it does the S-OFF for you as well.
Hey guys, I should have posted this about a month (maybe even longer) ago, but I've been dealing with some health issues and couldn't be bothered. First off I have a rooted phone (with S-OFF) but I like keeping the stock sense build. I upgraded OTA to 2.2 some time ago, then there was an OTA update a few months after that (which I was able to install without any problems after I replaced a couple of files that had gotten modified), now this newer OTA update refuses to install.
It tells me it needs to reboot to start installing so I click the button to reboot and it counts down, but it never reboots. Is it somehow detecting that my phone is rooted? I would like to have the most up to date OTA update installed on my phone at all times so any help or ideas would be great (also I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but I've been afk for a bit so I might have missed some things).

Read this thread, it tells you how to get back to 2.2 stock, then download the latest Unrevoked to root again and obtain s-off...

Blah I have to go back to 2.2 stock? Oh well, it's not the worse thing in the world (I already had to do it once) and those are great instructions (plus I've wanted to have the latest version of Clockworkmod installed for a while and using Unrevoked means I won't have to mess with the payload/su/etc files). Thanks!
I also thought of something (kind of late though). I was using a custom kernel, which might have been the issue too. But I went ahead and re-enabled S-On, however now for some reason my phone is checking for errors on my SD card (no idea how long it will take, or why it's doing that), but does anyone have a link for that 17.7mb file of the 3.26.605.1 update? I found the full RUU, but it's huge and I rather just upgrade than possibly wipe everything out (and I don't know when my phone will have the OTA ready again). Thanks for any help!
Is it necessary to update or downgrade then upgrade the OS?

That seems to be what that linked thread says, but I don't believe that is correct (that's why I am looking for that 17.7mb OTA file). I was able to install the first 2.2 update (aka 2.2.1) without issue after I restored some files that were altered (either by rooting or installing the wireless tether app that's hosted on Google Code). However this OTA update (aka 2.2.2) isn't popping up again for me to install, so I am going to see if I can extract just the upgrade data from the official RUU. I have to wait until later tonight because I need my phone to be operational for another few hours but I'll post back with results (and files if need be =).
Yeah I tried the RUU update and as expected it did a total wipe... bringing back system via nandroid and will try something else.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969973 <= using Jay's thread, which is much like the post that was first given to me in this thread. Not re-enabling S-ON seems to be the problem... lesson learned, don't try shortcuts unless you know what you are doing (and I've been afk from the "Dinc Scene" too long for that =p.
Edit 2: Up to date and 100% working!
Hello everyone, I'm running into a bit of a problem here with my sister's HTC EVO 4G.
You see her phone is a remanufactured replacement model from Sprint, and naturally it has a few minor problems with it. She wasn't thrilled with the battery life, so I rooted and flashed CM7.1 on her phone. She liked the rom and liked the extra battery life after I did some tweaking. Two Months later, for some odd reason, her phone will not connect to the data network at all. I flashed CM 7.2, same problem. Contacted sprint, where they refreshed the signal to the phone, no luck. So I concluded that it was a hardware error. Problem is, Sprint won't work on the phone without the Stock Sense Rom installed. I thought: "No big deal, I'll just flash it back to the stock sense rom" right? WRONG.
Never have I ever been so enraged by a cellphone. No matter what I do, no matter what I try, this phone absolutely REFUSES to go back to the stock rom. I've tried flashing several PC36IMG.zip files from the sdcard in HBOOT, and I have also tried several RUU updates from my PC while having the phone in Fastboot USB mode.
Quick Info:
Phone: HTC EVO 4G
Baseband: 2.15.00.12.19
HBOOT: 2.18.0001
Bootloader = Unlocked
Security = ON (S-ON)
Trying to flash PC36IMG.zip from HBOOT results in the phone loading the zip (with the little vertical progress bar on the side) and after loading completely, it just goes on it's merry way, checking for any other zip files and then HBOOT loads normally.
Running the RUU .exe files on my computer goes smoothly right up until somewhere in the update progress I get Error 155 (Unknown Error).
Now, it's my understanding that I don't need S-OFF to go back to the stock Sense rom, but I figured I should try to get S-OFF anyways. So I downloaded unrevoked and try to apply it from CWM, and it fails stating that it's not compatible with my radio version. Funny thing is, in all the radio lists for the HTC EVO 4G, I don't see 2.15.00.12.19 anywhere. In fact, 2.15.00.08.08 seems to be the newest one, unless I'm reading the lists wrong.
Either way I'm completely stuck here, and now I have a whining teenage sister screaming at me because she doesn't have a phone on a friday night. Go Figure.. Please guys, I know I'm a noobie here, but do me a solid. Please help me out, I'm stuck, frustrated, and I'm getting to the point where it's time to crack open a beer or 3 and say "f**k it".
Thanks in advance,
Alcolawl

Does it matter which RUU version I download? (I've been extracting the rom.zips from the RUU's temporary files). I have the most current one on my computer named: "RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed". I usually take the Rom from that, rename it PC36IMG.zip, place it on a freshly formatted sdcard, and reboot into bootloader and hope for the best.
well, if you want the bootloader to be returned to factory stock settings then you can follow the guide below, BUT if you just want to UN ROOT, just copy a stock rom like the one you named, and flash it thru RECOVERY menu (install zip from sd card), dont install it from the bootloader (white screen)

Sounds easy enough. While messing around and waiting for Dominos to arrive, I decided to flash MikG (first time doing so, so I wasn't sure what to expect). Lo and Behold, I updated the PRL and Data Profile, and her Data works again. She also likes how Sense looks more so than CM7. Aesthetics > Functionality in her book I guess. If it comes down to having to bring the phone to the Sprint store, I'll try flashing the image through Recovery instead of Hboot.
Thanks for the help man, really appreciate it.
