[Q] Cant unroot please help... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am taking my phone back to sprint today to get it replaced because of screen issues, but i cant seem to unroot it i have tried the ruu.exe files but they give me errors saying i need to update something, then i tried just flashing an older rom and updating to android 2.2 but it wont install the update, can anyone help me? i was thinking i could maybe flash an unrooted file from recovery but i dont know where to find one :/

You say the ruu.exe is asking to update something? Can you be more specific...I mean is it just asking you to update to the latest HTC Sync drivers? I am not sure if I can personally help but that info would render a better reply from someone who possible could...

it says error 140 bootloader version error the rom update utility cannot update your android phone please get the correct rom update utility and try again :/

There are 3 different versions...try the 1.47 one and see how it goes.

yeah i get the same error on all 3 :/

I assume you have done a factory reset then tried? I got no further clue but this ^bump^ in hopes someone more qualified can see your issue quicker...

yeah i have factory reset all 3 times i tried, all i can think of that would not make it work is i have the 2.2 radios installed on it could that be it? because i unrooted my roomates evo just fine and the only difference was he didnt have the newer radios on it

There are other ways but as I just posted in another thread...
I would re-run root with the simple root 1.47 edition...this would get you back to a fresh root. Then re-try the 1.47 RUU.exe...
This has saved me a couple of times...

Wrong bootloader???

well i dont know where to go with this one....
I get the error 140 wrong bootloader when trying to flash back to stock when im in the RUU reflash program
this is the 4th EVO i have rooted and the first to not go past the pc36img.zip
help....i have any info you may need
Is this on the latest OTA update or a new phone? If so, you can't flash a ROM to it.
June 29th update.....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
any word on when a fix will be released or if its a WIP
As of right now, there is no way to downgrade or root from the latest OTA. There are a few threads out there regarding devs taking a crack at it. No definitive ETA yet.

you can try to use toast root method 1 and 2 to see if you can downgrade from there....i've flash the update OTA and wimax, but not from sprint, so i was able to downgrade without a problem.

Going back to stock without using RUU?

I have tried the RUU for the recent OTA update and the previous firmware, both gave me errors at one point during the process that i could not figure out how to fix, error 170 (i fixed with the drivers) then 171 witch i could not get around. I have also tried putting the recent OTA firmware on using the pc36IMG firmware, but for some reason my Evo will no longer check for that file on the root of the SD. I think it may be due to the fact that i have Amons(Think thats the name) Recovery on my Evo now. My Evo is currently fully rooted and NAND unlocked.(Using toasts method) But for some reason it has started freezing alot and not turning back on once the phone goes to sleep etc etc. I am running Fresh 1.0.1(The latest version, the # may be incorrect) And i want to go back to stock, unrooted, without NAND unlocked and then im just going to wait for Froyo to be pushed. If anyone knows a way to do it without the phone needing to check for PC36IMG, and without using the RUU that would be great, maybe an ADB way.
Thanks guys,
Daugusta
im stuck just like you bro...RUU wont work on my evo either....please somebody help us go back to stock anybody?

Put it in your SD and flash it (you will need to root again)

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
yes i have.i tried using the ruu's but i keep getting an error saying wrong bootloader.i dont know what else to do.
If you don't care about losing root, use the 2.2 unofficial RUU file and see if that works.
where do i find that?
i found it but not sure if i wanna lose root.i just wanna be able to flash cyanogen mod.it wont let me but i can flash any other rom..i keep getting an error when flashing rom in recovery.something about bootloader.anybody have any ideas as to why i keep getting that error?

This is how I was able to unroot:
1. Ran the 1 Click SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition root program. This downgraded my evo to 1.17.651.1 while still mainting HBOOT .76.2000 (this is very important!)
2. Downloaded one of the RUU files (RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.exe), connected my evo and launched the update . Ensure you have the latest HTCSync software installed before running the program. I used version 2.0.40
I successfully unrooted my phone, and rooted it back to 1.47.xxx just as an academic exercise.
This should work for you. Also search the forum, there's a ton of info (albeit disorganized) on how to do this.

How To UN ROOT. TUTORIAL. Your Problems are solved!
That's where I run into problems.my hboot is .79.000. I use the ruu and i get errors about wrong bootloader.and simpleroot doesn't work.the step where u type in the website doesn't work.i get a blue Lego block with a question mark.
Which version of SimpleRoot are you using? I used the most recent version of the app (the latest has just 2 buttons NOT 4). Make sure after downloading to use the update option to check for updates. For some strange reason, the Simpleroot app is able to downgrade your HBOOT to .76.2000 (I couldn't achieve that by manually completing steps 1 & 2 of Toastchf method AND running the RUU - it always came up with that error UNTIL I resorted to the SimpleRoot method.) Maybe someone else can chime in. Anyways, give it a try.

[Q] Updating an Unrevoked Desire

Hi guys, I'm confused.
I have a stock HTC Desire on Orange with 2.10.405.2. I've been having problems with the radio (losing data connectivity but not showing it, text messages being delayed for hours, etc) and decided to root it with Unrevoked and put a new radio and RIL pack on. Well, I did that OK (although the connectivity problems persist).
The trouble is that now there's an OTA update to 2.29.405.2, which I would quite like to try out. When I tried to run it, Clockwork Recovery gave a signature check error.
Could someone explain how to fix this? I don't mind losing root, but I would very much prefer to run an update rather than flash a rom and lose everything on the phone! A clear description of what's going on would be appreciated, cheers!
I'm pretty sure, running the OTA would brick your phone, thats why it wont go through, what you need to do it, flash an Stock rom on your phone, then do OTA
Read the Wiki or Ask in the Desire forum for more help
Oh my, this reply came in just after I had managed to start an update (by moving/renaming the update file to update.zip in the root directory and using clockwork recovery). And as I read the update, the phone had been on the HTC splash screen for quite some time...
I almost had a heart attack.
But it's booted now The update failed due to not having enough free memory.
I suppose I'll just have to back up what I can and flash the stock rom. It's really annoying that rooting the phone in order to give me more flexibility has taken away the option to update painlessly.... That is, unless someone can point me towards a rooted update file?
Oh, the radio I updated to was Radio Froyo 5.11.05.27 (I flashed the RIL zip file separately), I am not sure how much that could affect things.
too bad that my phone had enough memory and now I'm trying to flash a stock rom.
The 1st one I tried was 2.09, and it failed saying kind of "invalid ruu version".
Now downloading 2.29.....

Going to stock from Leedroid

hi guys, I have tried using the search function but there are so many posts with conflicting information for different dates, I just thought i'd ask.
I need to get my DHD back to stock for now, Im running Leedroid gingerbread (2.36.405.8) which i think is formatted with ext-4 or whatever, I have eng s-off and super cid
Just want to make sure before I do any changes that what im about to do is correct or not..
Do I downgrade to the old version (1.32) and then temproot, then use the radio -s to get radio on ?
Then I can do an OTA and it'll be completely stock?
Im just confused, so a little help would be nice thanks.
Alos i'd like to know if the above method will get rid of clockwork mod recovery, or do I need to get rid of that manually?
right i've gone ahead and had the "guts" to do it without any help, i've downgraded to 1.32 and i've put radio-s back on and default CID, but still cant get OTA updates?
Why is this?
I've tried putting radio-s off again and changing the CID to vodafones one, and then radio S back on again, and diff combinations, but to no avail.. can anyone tell me why im not getting OTA update?
nvm, done it now. done a factory reset in bootloader and it's ok can get OTA now.
