FroYo OTA failed to verify whole-file signature - Desire General

I've tried twice already and every time the recovery gives that error, with the little android next to a warning sign. All I can do si reboot and try again... Would this have anything to do with the fact that my Desire went swimming a few weeks ago? Or maybe that I put a custom recovery image on it? If so, how can I put the stock one back on?

I have the original rom, but rootet and get the same issue.
F*** - i rootet mine on thursday because i read HTC is issuing froyo on the desire in december - 4 days later i could do OTA, but now i get this stupid error because (i think so) do not have an original recovery menu anymore.
can ANYBODY provide
*update of recovery mode
*trick/hack to install anyway
*a way back to a non-rooted device
?
THANKS DUDES!

I have the same problem, but don't think its because your pjone went for a swim or the root because i have an un rooted debranded unswimed desire...so any help from any one?

IEF on irc helped me heaps. I'm now rooted and running his rooted version of the OTA update. Updated without wiping, everything was saved.
This is the link to his rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7464523
If you want root, run unrevoked 3.1 and if that doesn't work, find him on irc.freenode.net in #modaco.

same here
It happened the same to me...and it was because i had previously rooted the phone with unrevoked. If you didnt keep an image of the original firmware, search for this file RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe if your bootloader is 0.8, it is the original firmware and execute the file on a windows computer ( before you install htc sync to get the drivers ). Then you'll be able to upgrade to froyo. If your bootloader is another you need another firmware....i dont remember where i saw the links.

i have rooted desire with froyo,i was due an upgrade to 2.29.405 etc .being rooted i failed to upgrade,i then d/loaded the full RUU to my computer, connect via USB in charge mode,10 mins. d/load .installed, working& phone no longer rooted.

Hello,
i have the same problem
after i upgraded to android 2.2
there was only one problem
i cant backup
so i installed rom manager
and this problem appeared
anyone can help?

[Q] Help / Advice needed PLEASE..

Hi, I am new to the andriod platform an i have just got a HTC Desire with Virgin Mobile, PLEASE BE GENTLE.....
It does not seem to be sim locked as i have tried an Orange sim in the phone and it works.
I have seen a Desire with Froyo on it and want to upgrade my phone.
After trying all the guides on various forums i still cannot upgrade and VM is not offering the update OTA.
when trying the Goldcard method I get error wrong bootloader, when trying with the OTA named update.zip using recovery it also throws up an error and exits.
What i have done now is rooted the phone using unrevoked3 method which has worked.
i want to have a stock 2.2 phone, not bothered about keeping the root, if i put the OTA update.zip on the sd card (or goldcard as i have created one) and flash using the clockworkmod recovery which is now on my phone will this work or should i update the radio first and will i be able to get OTA updates in future ???
my desire is:
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Software number 1.23.351.1
Bootloader 0.80.0000
when it boots it has the VM logo but apart from that there is no other branding on the phone.
Obviously i dont want to brick the phone, i have done lots of reading and i am still unsure of how i can get my phone updated.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help....
Your phone is rooted?
Simply download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Which is a rooted but everything else is the same as stock 2.2. That way you'll have the option to use custom roms etc.
If you need step by step instructions to flashing as the guide on that page isn't so detailed let me know.

Thanks for the reply , if i keep root i was thinking of trying this rom
h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726300
i take it since my desire is rooted and i am on boot 0.80.000 i will just need to flash radio first , then flash the rom??
will it matter that my desire is possibly classed as branded and has the operators custom firmware on looking at the software number???
do i just rename the radio to update.zip and put on sd card and flash with clockworkmod , then do the same with the rom ???
should i use the goldcard when doing the above or will any sd card be ok??
thanks again for the advice....
Update....
Took the plunge and installed radio 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 and then the Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed].
All went well but the phone was running slow.
Did a factory reset and wipe in clockworkmod and reinstalled the rom.
restored my apps using mybackup , got contacts back off google account and all is good now.

[Q] Updating an Unrevoked Desire

Hi guys, I'm confused.
I have a stock HTC Desire on Orange with 2.10.405.2. I've been having problems with the radio (losing data connectivity but not showing it, text messages being delayed for hours, etc) and decided to root it with Unrevoked and put a new radio and RIL pack on. Well, I did that OK (although the connectivity problems persist).
The trouble is that now there's an OTA update to 2.29.405.2, which I would quite like to try out. When I tried to run it, Clockwork Recovery gave a signature check error.
Could someone explain how to fix this? I don't mind losing root, but I would very much prefer to run an update rather than flash a rom and lose everything on the phone! A clear description of what's going on would be appreciated, cheers!
I'm pretty sure, running the OTA would brick your phone, thats why it wont go through, what you need to do it, flash an Stock rom on your phone, then do OTA
Read the Wiki or Ask in the Desire forum for more help
Oh my, this reply came in just after I had managed to start an update (by moving/renaming the update file to update.zip in the root directory and using clockwork recovery). And as I read the update, the phone had been on the HTC splash screen for quite some time...
I almost had a heart attack.
But it's booted now The update failed due to not having enough free memory.
I suppose I'll just have to back up what I can and flash the stock rom. It's really annoying that rooting the phone in order to give me more flexibility has taken away the option to update painlessly.... That is, unless someone can point me towards a rooted update file?
Oh, the radio I updated to was Radio Froyo 5.11.05.27 (I flashed the RIL zip file separately), I am not sure how much that could affect things.
too bad that my phone had enough memory and now I'm trying to flash a stock rom.
The 1st one I tried was 2.09, and it failed saying kind of "invalid ruu version".
Now downloading 2.29.....

[Q] Official Update Not Working

Hey guys, I should have posted this about a month (maybe even longer) ago, but I've been dealing with some health issues and couldn't be bothered. First off I have a rooted phone (with S-OFF) but I like keeping the stock sense build. I upgraded OTA to 2.2 some time ago, then there was an OTA update a few months after that (which I was able to install without any problems after I replaced a couple of files that had gotten modified), now this newer OTA update refuses to install.
It tells me it needs to reboot to start installing so I click the button to reboot and it counts down, but it never reboots. Is it somehow detecting that my phone is rooted? I would like to have the most up to date OTA update installed on my phone at all times so any help or ideas would be great (also I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but I've been afk for a bit so I might have missed some things).

Read this thread, it tells you how to get back to 2.2 stock, then download the latest Unrevoked to root again and obtain s-off...

Blah I have to go back to 2.2 stock? Oh well, it's not the worse thing in the world (I already had to do it once) and those are great instructions (plus I've wanted to have the latest version of Clockworkmod installed for a while and using Unrevoked means I won't have to mess with the payload/su/etc files). Thanks!
I also thought of something (kind of late though). I was using a custom kernel, which might have been the issue too. But I went ahead and re-enabled S-On, however now for some reason my phone is checking for errors on my SD card (no idea how long it will take, or why it's doing that), but does anyone have a link for that 17.7mb file of the 3.26.605.1 update? I found the full RUU, but it's huge and I rather just upgrade than possibly wipe everything out (and I don't know when my phone will have the OTA ready again). Thanks for any help!
Is it necessary to update or downgrade then upgrade the OS?

That seems to be what that linked thread says, but I don't believe that is correct (that's why I am looking for that 17.7mb OTA file). I was able to install the first 2.2 update (aka 2.2.1) without issue after I restored some files that were altered (either by rooting or installing the wireless tether app that's hosted on Google Code). However this OTA update (aka 2.2.2) isn't popping up again for me to install, so I am going to see if I can extract just the upgrade data from the official RUU. I have to wait until later tonight because I need my phone to be operational for another few hours but I'll post back with results (and files if need be =).
Yeah I tried the RUU update and as expected it did a total wipe... bringing back system via nandroid and will try something else.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969973 <= using Jay's thread, which is much like the post that was first given to me in this thread. Not re-enabling S-ON seems to be the problem... lesson learned, don't try shortcuts unless you know what you are doing (and I've been afk from the "Dinc Scene" too long for that =p.
Edit 2: Up to date and 100% working!

[Q] O2 OTA update 2.14.207.3

So I got a notification today that there was an OTA for my HTC Desire. So seeing as I am running the stock HTC Sense ROM (although I am rooted) I downloaded it however upon trying to install the update it failed and I was stuck at a screen with the android logo and a warning sign> I managed to exit this via clockworkmod recovery. Now when I boot into hboot it finds the PB99IMG.zip and tries to install it after realizing this I tried the same method using my goldcard however again it failed. This method also fails and I can no longer get to clockwork mod.
Does anyone know either how I can install this update or how I can find the zip to get rid of it as the only way I can think of (and this is because im a n00b) is to unroot, install the update then re-root.
Thanks
Have you had any luck sorting this?
I've got the same issue, I'm running the ROM that came with my phone, but I have rooted it, I can download the OTA fine, but it wont install. I've tried to unroot it by reinstalling the standard ROM, but the only one I can find that matches my Desire seems to be too out of date.
If you're rooted you should NEVER accept an OTA update as it will screw your phone up
nah havn't sorted it. As to about the RUU Pirow the one I found that works is 2.14.207.1 which can be found here: http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe

Thanks! I tried the only O2 one I found yesterday, but it wasn't that one, I'll give it a go tomorrow

Rom didn't work for me get 110 error files are missing, downloaded it a number of times
Better link here:

I sorted my phone by sending it off to be relashed at the O2 repair centre, it's now unrooted, but I've no reason to root it as I have more free space than I did while it was rooted so I'm happy

Need some help unrooting please?

Hello,
I am trying to unroot my phone so i can send it back to HTC for repair, i have already unrooted about 12 months ago when my phone started rebooting and i kept the files to unroot but they dont seem to work now because i have hboot 0.93?
Everytime i try to run the RUU to downgrade my phone disconnects from HTC Sync with a 140 error.
I made a gold card and followed this guide.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256 but at the very last part the box closes and the new image is not flashed.
Can someone point me to the latest tutorial to unroot please?
Thanks.
You don't have to downgrade if you download the latest ruu.
You can find a lot of stock roms here:
http://ship.ibeta.org/shipped/Bravo/
Just make sure that if you are branded you download a branded rom.
What RUU did you keep for unrooting purposes? Might be a newer one out now
Thanks for the replies.
I was using this rom..... RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed
I managed to unroot it eventually, think it was something to do with the USB connection.
CHeers.
I think i may have messed up my phone now.....
After i unrooted, my phone seemed to be working fine and did not reboot once, so i thought i would root it again and see how it runs, i used unrevoked and it got as far as the message saying rooting phone was a triumph then it went to the next stage where it was removing itself but then my phone rebooted.
My phone is still not rooted and when i go into bootloader it takes a minute of checking then there is a message saying "CID incorrect"
The phone still boots up but i need to send it for repair, i want to flash the original RUU but i am getting the "Error [140]: Bootloader version error"
What can i do now to fix the bootloader?
Appreciate any help.
What software version are you running at the moment (Settings>About phone>Software information)?
Hi,
Here are the details.....
Android Version
2.2
Baseband version
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel Version
2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0
Build number
2.12.110.4 vl274424
Software Number
2.12.110.4
Browser version
webkit 3.1
You can't run the old RUU over the top of FroYo, which is why it's failing
You could try downgrading and then run the TMO UK RUU you have but it might not work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
I would need to root to downgrade again? My my phone seems to go into a bootloop when connected to USB.
I am trying to get unrevoked to root the phone again but my phone reboots at the last part.
My phone managed to stay on long enough to root it again then i got it back to stock
My phone seems to run fine on stock rom....no reboots but if i root and put on a custom rom it start to reboot again.
Anybody think why?
I was hoping to send my phone back for repair then root again when it comes back but i can't send when it works fine on stock.
Cheers.
