anybody know what the difference between this new program and Blackberry Connect is? hopefully this is the solution i'm looking for as my carrier (Rogers) doesn't support BBC and therefore I can't use it at work
The Register had a story today about this and it was specifically named as Blackberry Connect.. it sounds like its just what everyone here already has to me but maybe an updated version for WM6

Yes but not much use in that if they can't even manage to keep their data centers up and running

I agree completely. RIM may still be growing, but as WM6 rolls out on new devices, and Exchange 2007 grabs a foothold, savvy CIO's will be hard pressed to justify spending the extra bucks on RIM software, maintenance and "support". Hell, it took them three days to admit that they had made a change that brought down the house. Rediculous!
So will t-mobile offer a rom upgrade to 6.5 for the touch pro 2? And if so could some one post a link to the info.
Sorry if this upsets anyone, I used the search feature and really didn't find any thing on this.
Also I looked on t-mobile's site and htc's site as well and couldn't find any info on this.
Thanks in advance too anyone that could shed some light on this for me!!!!
I read a note some week ago that T-mobile would offer a free download of WiMo6.5 for their customers. I don't remeber exactly where I read this.
It would seem likely that all the different carriers will offer official upgrades to 6.5 but only HTC and the individual carriers know for sure. Normally they don't release any official communications until they actually release the upgrade.
Sometimes someone at the carrier who is in a position to know what the plans are will leak said plans to someone on the outside and then you see a bunch of posts about it here. You have to treat such posts as hearsay and take them with a grain of salt as they often turn out to be untrue.
Short story - you will know if and when your carrier is going to release 6.5 the day they release it.
S
When HTC did their training for the Dash 3G And Touch Pro 2 with some Tmo employees we were told that the Touch Pro 2 would be getting a free upgrade to 6.5. Not sure when though...
I'm staying with T-Mobile as I really like my tariff, but when it comes to phone ROM updates I cannot stand how they usually seem to be the last to deliver (correct me if I'm wrong). Also I must add that through flashing ROMs via this site, I have seen that certain vendors hide features of the phone via their customised OS. That's all good for SLAs and manageable support etc. , but it does get to the point when you feel like not sticking to the rules. Just like the way a home harddisk recorder comes with say a 80Gb HD. Guaranteed you'd see stuff about upgrading it yourself.
I made the jump from a TMo Kaiser to getting an unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2. WM6.5 goes through a wizard which allows you to configure the phone with the settings from your service provider. Seems Ok for me. The HTC Touch Pro 2 is looking good.
I like many others am also anxiously waiting for the update from T-mobile. The only feature that T-mobile hides is FM radio AFAIK, but that can be easily fixed by installed the cab file on this website.
As for the front camera for video calling, then all I can say is "oh well, it's t-mobile". It doesn't even have the opening for that, and I doubt that little camera is included at all. Other than that, absolutely no complaints especially considering the my other phone before this was the wing.
T-Mobile USA will release an update.
All Windows Mobile updates are posted at the link below.

When T-Mobile USA release an update they will post it.
Dear Jonathan, Thank you for contacting us in regards to your flash player issue. Within the next 2 weeks HTC wil release the Android 2.2 OS over the air. The will enable the lastest version of Adobe Flash Player on your device and will resolve any exisiting issues. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Best regards, xxxxxxxxxxxxx HTC Technical Support

That's brilliant news! Can't bloody wait!
Brilliant, lets hope his word is good for it !!
Thanks for the info.
Sent them the email cos I couldn't watch Vixen Videos on The Daily Star
I still wouldn't be too suprised if it doesn't come out at that time.
By now it's getting kind of a fail on Google's side that they teased us with Froyo mid may and still haven't officially released it even on the N1. I'm afraid Apple's iOS 4 will beat Froyo to the market. After iOS4 mass market will not care much for Android at least for another half year.
We have to keep our hopes high though, so hopefully in 2 weeks we'll be running Froyo.
IF, and I say if, that's true then fair play HTC!!

I agree. I think if you don't release the update within a few weeks of announcing it publicly, it reflects very badly on your planning/preparation. And as much as I hate Apple, I think they are pretty good at these things, while Google clearly has a long way to go. If they do screw up with Froyo, Android's dreams of catching up with iPhone in terms of market share would remain dreams for a long long time.
Ah, so it begins. The rumour of the 23rd of June is now being pushed back by another two weeks before we even get to the 23rd.
Can we stop this? In just under two weeks someone will receive another email pushing it back another few weeks, and again, and again and so on.
Until HTC say "It'll be out on this date" this emailing customer service nonsense should just stop.

Chill dude.
Last time i checked the 23rd was in the next 2 weeks. OTA updates are rarely on the same date for everyone for a number of reasons, so an exact date may not be possible.
Well, see you all in three weeks for the customary self induced *****fest. People need to stop attention seeking.

I emailed customer service because I wanted to know if they had a fix for embedded flash not working, not to find out if there was an update coming, just thought I'd share the reply.
within the next 2 weeks includes the 23rd as far as my calender goes btw and they'd be stupid to update all desires on the same day - the network stress would be ridiculous!

Dear <me>, Thank you for contacting us. In regards to your query, I am afraid but that is not an official statment from HTC. Please find below the official statment about the update to 2.2 Froyo: "We are considering a Froyo(2.2) upgrade for some models of our phones, but we are still analyzing the impact this will have on the user experience. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades." I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Not over the air. How many desires have seen sold? Have a guess and multiply it by the 150MB or so of the update and see why not everyone will get it on the same day..
Personally im waiting for cooked Froyo Desire ROMs. Im sure the stock one will be nice, but i want FULL A2SD.
Some of you guys need to get a life! Continue with your life without *****ing around and when the update eventually comes, you'll see it. Those people at the helpdesk in HTC HQ are just people like you and me trying to do their job. They're told what to and (and more specific) what NOT to say.
So hold your horses, quit *****ing and bothering them, they're no gods, they're just lads trying to earn their beer.
Once the update is READY, you'll all see it flashing on your screen.
Thank you.

is there no way to just host it online and have it downloaded over regular internet?
i'm imagining it being like flashing the firmware of a dvdwriter or something.
would make it faster by a long shot and not impact the 3g network
This reply does kind of fit in the other leaks about froyo on the Desire. Namely end of June.
Off course until we actually have it on our phones it remains a question whether or not they can deliver in a timely fashion (unlike other htc android handhelds)
But the regular slips of htc support seem promising

Does anyone have any news of a new handset from HTC to replace the TP2?
Now that Windows 7 is released I would be expecting HTC to release an updated top-of-the-range business handset to replace the TP2. I've had a TP2 since it came out (and every model prior to that), but it's a bit tired now (not to mention scratched to buggery!). Surely there must be a new flag-ship handset on its way?
I comtacted HTC who in their usual helpful way said "I can help with that question" and then proceded to not help me in the slightest! Their stock answer is we'll tell you when (or if) we feel like it! Obviously, this really encourages me to stay with HTC! These forums tend to be far more informed than anyone else and so maybe someone here has some news, rumours etc?

Oh come on, all companies don't disclose such information prior to official announcements.
I wouldn't expect minute details of their latest project, but since everyone knows they will be launching a Windows 7 handset, I wouldn't have though it beyond the realms of possibility for them to say we're looking for a Q4 2011 release". Every other company does this, and it not exactly a secret that a handset manufacturer will launch a new handset sometime soon!
And why would you ask something that you obviously already know?
I don't already know. If I did, I wouldn't have been asking. If they aren't going to be releasing one for another year, I'll look at buying an xperia. If they are, I'll hang on.
There are lots of rumors; according to them, they will release maybe not one but several handsets. Officially they are announced as launch partners by Microsoft. There are no official statements from HTC that their support staff can distribute though, so I don't see why you prefer to bug them instead of googling, it'd bring you better results with much less effort.
Before he left, Conflipper disclosed a bunch of previously unknown WP7 and Android HTC devices. That's on top of the Mozart, Mondrian, Spark, Gold, and Schubert that are already rumored.

I read that the HTC Gold_W will come to Sprint with WP7. The _W might be World Phone speculation. No word on CPU but I would prefer a Tegra or Tegra 2 CPU dual core CPU. World phone would be nice. I just hope HTC does not screw up the camera or video recording as usual.
One thing that gets me is the wait till the Holiday season.. I mean common, release at least early/mid November at the latest since I do not want to be waiting in line for a device while I need to get Christmas Shopping done.
(Seriously thinking of Pre-ordering/Waiting in line (if their is one) for the first Sprint based device) I really want to get my hands on one early to see the OS grow, Market it to friends, family, iUsers, and hopefully work my way into a Marketing Position for Microsoft's Mobile Marketing or HTC's Marketing Devision. Both of them really need to push Windows Phone better than any past device thus far.

No way I am switching from Sprint. I am Pretty darn sure that every carrier is onboard to provide a relase day device (and HTC has the devices for them). No ATT only crap even if they are a "Premiere Partner"
I'm not sure I'm sticking w/ HTC - I want to see what all the devices are and I don't have enough info at this time. I'd like something with a 1.3 or 1.5 GHz dual core, and a nice keyboard is a MAJOR bonus for me... so, we'll see which device has what specs, then I'll decide

Correct me if I'm wrong (cuz I'm not 100% knowledgable on "dual-core") , but you want a device that runs at 3 ghz?! No one is going to be able to provide that for you at least until Q4 of 2011. Motorola is showing off with their 2 ghz phone in Q4 2010 but 3 Gigs is just impossible...

Hey guys. I posted in a different thread (can't remember which) that I emailed the HTCDev support team basically pitching a b*tch about the fact that Verizon's source has yet to be posted and that HTC is in violation of GPL. I was told it would be escalated and that was roughly a week ago.
I just received a call from HTCDev Support and they have informed me that Verizon's kernel source should be posted on HTCDev in the next day or so. Huzzah! Who said sending random b*tchy emails about stuff doesn't result in anything?
There ya go devs! official kernel source. Have at it! :good:

Great news...let's hope nothing holds it up again.
Verizon's network is fantastic but they really, really, really suck at everything else. Okay, maybe not everything, customer service is pretty decent too.
You know what you must do now with your new found power?
Call everyone Congressman and Senator and tell them to pull their heads out off their asses because they are all violating the constitution in some form, or....let the tv networks know that sex is better than violence and they now have to show full frontal or resign.

They are violating the GPL right now, so they better get it up ASAP.
can't wait to have sweep2wake/sleep and to be able to use the stupid htc logo as a button.
I remember they said the same thing about the bolt years ago and still took forever to get them to release it. It's just a generic response to tell you what you want to hear. So you will leave them alone.

I just emailed them again saying that it still hasn't been posted after I received a phone call stating it would be "presently" and I made sure to inform them of the GPL violation again. If it isn't there by the time I get off work today (5 EST) then I am going to call the rep I spoke with and ask her what is taking so long. I made sure to get a direct contact number to the rep I spoke with. I'm a little pissed it still isn't there. 5 EST will be exactly 24 hours since I was told it would be posted and since she did say it could take a day I figured I'd give them at least 24 hours before I call and b*tch.

Hey dude just wanted to let you know in some places it may or may not be illegal to record a conversation without the other parties consent.
In like two minutes of Google research I have come up with (Assuming you live in the US) that there are about 12 states that require the consent of both parties and about 38 states + D.C only requiring one party to consent.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-taking-aim-at-device-modders-in-android-4-4-kitkat/
This concerns me greatly as a kernel modder...
I am worried they aren't going to release the source code until the One gets the Kit-Kat update, thereby enforcing this dm-verity feature...my only hope is that there is a toggle for it in the source. We shall see.
Still havent heard back from HTC yet on my end, just this: "Thank you for providing this information. I have forwarded your request for the Kernel Source Code to our Specialist. They should be in contact with you within 7-10 business days. They may be in touch with you sooner. It just depends on their current work load as they work on a first come first serve basis. In the meantime, Bryan, I hope you enjoy your week!"

The issue with that is when they record conversations from customers calling in they don't ask for consent right? They just do it. I'm sure it's probably frowned upon. At this point, with how long they've basically not cared about violations of GPL with their refusal to release source, I don't care. Any excuse they try to give us will be BS. T-Mo and AT&T released source for their one. Both 4.1 and 4.1.2. When any of us email to complain about it we always get the same canned "We understand that kernel source code is valuable and essential for all developers..." blah blah blah. They know but they don't care enough to release it. I'm tired of it. I appreciate the warning and I will delete the part about me recording the convo but honestly I shouldn't have had to even felt the need. I had a feeling it was possible they would try to blow smoke up my @$$ and attempt to placate me and say it was being released soon so I wanted documentation. They don't offer transcripts of the conversations freely when you speak to them. Essentially they can say anything they please and not be held accountable for it and that is the exact opposite of customer service and support that HTC likes to claim they pride themselves on. Customer service and support doesn't end at device purchase. You can't claim to be developer friendly and then deny the very thing developers need to develop on the platform.
HTC clearly made one of the best android smartphones of all time. I just wish they would actually support the dev community since, you know, they're "Developer Friendly". Sorry for the rant but I'm tired of waiting... and waiting... and receiving "we know it's important" email responses.

Yeah I saw that when that story broke on the main XDA page. It seems very anti android. I found it odd Google would be taking that stance.
The response is the first response I received. Then it was exactly a week and I received that phone call last night saying it would be released. I just checked AGAIN and it has yet to be uploaded to HTCDev. I will be calling them and inquiring about it after I get off work as that would be exactly 24 hours since I received their call. If that's the case it doesn't make sense. If that's all they were going to do then why even call period? It's a waste of their time and mine. That's an asinine method of customer support. I'd rather them not even call. I didn't expect a call. I expected the "escalation" to be the end of it. This is frustrating as hell. I'm calling them this evening and I will point-blank ask if they ever truly intended to release source or if they were just telling me what I want to hear to shut me up. That line of thinking is idiotic. You tell someone that, when honestly you don't have to (even if HTC wants them to it makes no sense), they are going to follow up.
