Hey all, quick question here.
I want to move up to CM6 nightly but want to clear out my gapps that I used when testing a nightly several weeks back.
Does a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik) clear this or should I investigate further?
Thanks for the help

CM has a built in backup script that backs up gapps and then reinstalls them. If you want to have a complete wipe and use clockwork reecovery then just go into partition and format /system/ from there before installing CM6 from .zip

you don't have to wipe between nightlies.
just wipe cache and dalvik-cache before you flash and you should be fine!

Hi guys,
When updating a current rom from one build (8/20) to the next (8/25), will I have to do a full wipe/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache, or is it possible to just flash the newest update for this rom?
Thanks!

Its always the best to do a clean wipe so the new rom doesn't co-exist with the old bugs
Thank you!
One more question, when restoring a previous build, like a stock build or something, is it safe to go ahead and restore that rom, or do you also recommend wiping and going back to stock ICS and then restoring?
Or does wipe/factory reset basically put you back at un-root and stock ICS?
Still trying to understand all the lingo, thanks for the help.

If you are updating the same rom you don't have to do a full wipe. Just wipe cache and dalvik. AOKP --> AOKP is fine. CM10 nightly --> CM10 nightly is also fine.
If you are talking about a nandroid, you can restore those whenever you so choose. No prerequisite necessary.
Hi there
I have wiped data, cache, dalvik cache and fix permissions, flashed Remics 1.8 and Gapps 20120429 and i'm stuck at Remics boot animation.
I am trying for the second time, this time I wiped data, cache before flashing gaps too but it's booting for 15 minutes now and still waiting.
The ROM was released today so I have no feedback. Anyone tried it already?
Thanks

To make sure you have the full file try checking the size, download the file, check size, if same click cancel and if not same delete the incomplete version(sometimes it's just a network problem, happened to me before)
After checking you have full sizes, follow these steps:
(1) copying the files to you phone.
1- use CWM, connect usb to computer.
2- go to mounts and storage.
3- connect usb storage.
4- copy files to the phone's internal memory.
(2) flash the rom.
1- go to mounts and storage(again)
2-format /system /data /cache
3- go back and wipe data(just to make sure) then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
4- go back and flash rom and Gapps.
5- again go to advanced and but now fix permissions.
6-reboot and enjoy!
Press The Thanks Button If I Helped.
Thanks
I had to install another rom but i'll try it again tonight and than i'll let you know if it worked. Thanks for helping me.
Didn't work but I guess it's a problem with the rom and the developer is trying to fix it, but thank you for your advise! :good:

True, arco really worked hard on it. I like to take the risk for the features
How do you flash back to a previous nightly? What are the steps I know I have to make sure I have the nightly I want to flash to on my SD card, but before I can do that what caches do I need to wipe?
Current: D2att cyangogen nightly12/28/12
to --> nightly12/27/12

Wipe cache and dalvik. If you have any problems that weren't there before a full wipe might be needed.
Also for future reference you should use a more descriptive title when posting questions.
Not sure what you mean by flash to a previously nightly, I am guessing you would like to restore your phone to a previous backup?
If so you need to use something like ROM manager and grant superuser permissions to it. From there you can create backups and restore points from your custom ROM`s. You can either restore from inside the phone or from CWM recovery mode.
Personally for me everytime I flash a new ROM on my phone I hop into CWM recovery and do a factory wipe and reset, wipe cache, and then go to advanced and wipe dalvik.
If I have been messing around with the same Custom ROM, changing widgets, apps etc, I back up using ROM Manager and just restore back to something if I don`t like the changes I have made.
Hope that helps.

Thank you very much, and will do I'm pretty new to this I'm just trying to figure out all the correct steps so I won't brick.
I've been flashing the nightly cyaongenmod 10.1 builds on my i747m using cwm.
Is there a way to prevent losing all the settings and apps that I have? For example, if I don't clear data/cache will this cause bad things to happen?
Or is there another way to do this?

Get titanium backup and do a full backup of your apps/data. When you restore, dont restore any system app but you can restore the rest.
And to avoid problems, always clear cache/dalvik.

All you need to do is download the new nightly that you wanna flash, boot into recovery, flash the nightly. If you have any other files that you wanna flash like a kernel, flash them after the nightly. Clear cache & dalvik cache & reboot. You won't lose any apps or settings doing it this way. This is how I update every day. Now if you wanna do a clean install every single time you update, that's another story. The way I just explained to you will work just fine. There is no need in wiping EVERYTHING for every update.

It's not only about wiping everything (Clean flash), having a backup is always good and *needed* imo. Never know when something will go wrong, could be as simple as a corrupted download.
So just to confirm, if I download the latest nightly, boot into cwm, clear cache and dalvik, but don't delete user data, then flash ROM and gapps, it will have all my settings and apps already setup?

Thanks. I didn't think about mentioning that. It's kind of a given to me to keep a good nandroid. Some people may not know though. Thanks for adding that.

I have a touchwiz nandroid and a cm10 nandroid on my SD card and my computer.
Will I have to flash gapps again or will that already be there?

Gotta flash the Gapps everytime you flash a ROM. (Their respective one)

You will only have to flash Gapps the first time. If you update like I told you, you will not have to flash them.

Changing from stable to nightly
Hi,
I'm currently running on a cm 10.1.3 stable (note 2 N7100). I would like to install cm-11-20141027-NIGHTLY-n7100. Do i have to do a complete wipe or just flash the downloaded file from recovery.
cm upgrade manually w/o losing data

Does it apply to stable updates and upgrades also and not only for nightly?
Can I use the same method for updating CM11s to CM12 whenever they release...?
Titanium Backup
Will the Titanium Backup * root be the correct one, or the Titanium Pro?
