any way to flash the updates for cm7 nightly builds without loosing all apps and settings???

you don't have to wipe between nightlies.
just wipe cache and dalvik-cache before you flash and you should be fine!

Hey all, quick question here.
I want to move up to CM6 nightly but want to clear out my gapps that I used when testing a nightly several weeks back.
Does a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik) clear this or should I investigate further?
Thanks for the help

CM has a built in backup script that backs up gapps and then reinstalls them. If you want to have a complete wipe and use clockwork reecovery then just go into partition and format /system/ from there before installing CM6 from .zip
So I have a question , I'm currently on 110722 Nightly Jordan, and I'm planning on going to the newest 110729 Nightly Jordan.
Now, what are the steps that should I take?
should I upgrade to either the BOOT 179-4 / BOOTSEA first? or I could just flash to 110729?
thanks for your help
just flash 110729 Nightly as u flash normally..no special steps required..
one more question, to upgrade, we firstly need to wipe data, wipe cache and wip dalvik cache right?
can anyone tell me what does this three steps do? (as in wiping data, you're deleting something, .........)
thanks
do not wipe anything..u can wipe cache but never wipe data..wiping data will result in deleting everything u have ever installed in ur phone..like apps and all..and wiping cache is also not required..but it is ok if u wipe cache..
oh thank you arpith
so if I don't need to wipe data, then I don't need to use titanium backup right? as none of the apps are deleted
yep..no need of titanium backup..it will be as it is..only system files will be updated..
Can you tell us if you haver wifi problem with the new nighty ?
I went back to the latest SEA because of that

my wi-fi is working great actually, no loss at speed or sudden DCs.
the one thing that I'm worried is my camera.
somehow, the images that it produce are really bad, it doesn't force closes, but the quality of image is very poor (already on max settings) , both on photos and videos.
any solutions?
Hi guys,
When updating a current rom from one build (8/20) to the next (8/25), will I have to do a full wipe/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache, or is it possible to just flash the newest update for this rom?
Thanks!

Its always the best to do a clean wipe so the new rom doesn't co-exist with the old bugs
Thank you!
One more question, when restoring a previous build, like a stock build or something, is it safe to go ahead and restore that rom, or do you also recommend wiping and going back to stock ICS and then restoring?
Or does wipe/factory reset basically put you back at un-root and stock ICS?
Still trying to understand all the lingo, thanks for the help.

If you are updating the same rom you don't have to do a full wipe. Just wipe cache and dalvik. AOKP --> AOKP is fine. CM10 nightly --> CM10 nightly is also fine.
If you are talking about a nandroid, you can restore those whenever you so choose. No prerequisite necessary.
Can I update from CM10.1.2 to CM10.2 without wiping the data partition?
Please only answer if you have tried it.
thanks
Hello,
I did that by automatically updating to nightlies. I wasn't planning to update yet so I didn't read anything about it. It took me a few hours to realize that I had to manually install gapps again. Now I'm planning a wipe and reinstall as some things don't work (like Keep and Drive sync).
If you're not plannning to beta test CM10.2 and provide feedback to the developers, I would advise you to stick to 10.1.2 for another while.
Have a nice day!

I updated to yesterday's build with the 4.3 gapps and I just wiped cache, dalvik, and system. 14 hours later and so far no issues.

I wiped everything yesterday evening (did a backup in advance) and reinstalled the nightly of 21st. Left the phone to automatically reinstall everything, restored what was to be restored from Titanium Backup and everything seems to be OK (even the colored artefacts from Focal are gone).
Now that I'm thinking about it, a Dalvik wipe might have solved the problems...
Cheers!

you can use a backup software or simply DONT do a wipe data/factory reset..
just wipe cache and install the update..
I'll work fine.. I did the same and it works fine for me so far..:victory:
everytime i try to go from 10.1 to 10.2, my extrnal usb card isnt mounted..i can see it in device storage but not in any file managers
I did'nt do factory reset for last 2 updates. I did'nt experience any problem. You can wipe the cache and install the update as says tharas.
