Can I update from CM10.1.2 to CM10.2 without wiping the data partition?
Please only answer if you have tried it.
thanks
Hello,
I did that by automatically updating to nightlies. I wasn't planning to update yet so I didn't read anything about it. It took me a few hours to realize that I had to manually install gapps again. Now I'm planning a wipe and reinstall as some things don't work (like Keep and Drive sync).
If you're not plannning to beta test CM10.2 and provide feedback to the developers, I would advise you to stick to 10.1.2 for another while.
Have a nice day!

I updated to yesterday's build with the 4.3 gapps and I just wiped cache, dalvik, and system. 14 hours later and so far no issues.

I wiped everything yesterday evening (did a backup in advance) and reinstalled the nightly of 21st. Left the phone to automatically reinstall everything, restored what was to be restored from Titanium Backup and everything seems to be OK (even the colored artefacts from Focal are gone).
Now that I'm thinking about it, a Dalvik wipe might have solved the problems...
Cheers!

So I have a question , I'm currently on 110722 Nightly Jordan, and I'm planning on going to the newest 110729 Nightly Jordan.
Now, what are the steps that should I take?
should I upgrade to either the BOOT 179-4 / BOOTSEA first? or I could just flash to 110729?
thanks for your help
just flash 110729 Nightly as u flash normally..no special steps required..
one more question, to upgrade, we firstly need to wipe data, wipe cache and wip dalvik cache right?
can anyone tell me what does this three steps do? (as in wiping data, you're deleting something, .........)
thanks
do not wipe anything..u can wipe cache but never wipe data..wiping data will result in deleting everything u have ever installed in ur phone..like apps and all..and wiping cache is also not required..but it is ok if u wipe cache..
oh thank you arpith
so if I don't need to wipe data, then I don't need to use titanium backup right? as none of the apps are deleted
yep..no need of titanium backup..it will be as it is..only system files will be updated..
Can you tell us if you haver wifi problem with the new nighty ?
I went back to the latest SEA because of that

my wi-fi is working great actually, no loss at speed or sudden DCs.
the one thing that I'm worried is my camera.
somehow, the images that it produce are really bad, it doesn't force closes, but the quality of image is very poor (already on max settings) , both on photos and videos.
any solutions?
Need a little help here... Been on CM 10 from the beginning on my TMobile s3 with no problems. After I downloaded the 8-18-12 nightly my phone will not get past the android setup screen?? Anyone else having this issues and what can I do about this? Thanks!!
I just installed it and it works fine so far. Try another wipe and install. Or maybe your download is bad.

Tried nightly download from cyanogen site & rom mgr. to no avail?? My rom mgr is updated, did full wipes and no luck. Reverted back to 8-14 with no issues. Haven't heard anyone else having this issue and I've never had any issues downloading CM before?? Weird. Thanks for the info.

First time I installed it, it worked out fine but there was a few minor issues like camera won't upload pictures and videos to facebook, Unable to update status. I decided to flash it again but this time I wiped dalvik 3x cache and data 2x format system cache data 2x each. After doing that everything worked out fine.

Yes, I had the same problem. It seems to work sometimes, sometimes not. Just do the 3 types of wipes, and try again- it should work.
One hint: during the installation of the ROM when it says "unleashing the evil"- it should take a good 20 seconds (or so) to "unleash". On the installations that failed for me it said "unleashing the evil" and immediately finished installing- and then the boot after that failed too....

Thanks for all the info. This morning I tried the download again from ROM mgr. and it worked fine Didn't do anything different but it worked!! Also, when you say wipe 3 x's, how do you do this? I installed today from ROM mgr. and it pops up to wipe and I check all boxes. After install is complete it auto boots into new build. Should I go back to recovery and wipe again or?? Thanks again.
Since I used the recovery to wipe, I was taking about wiping the 1) user data (factory re set), 2) the cache, and 3) the dalvik cache. If you're using the ROM manager, I'm sure what you did was fine. Truth is, I don't think all of the 3 wipes I did are always necessary especially if you're just upgrading from a previous build... Good luck!

Thanks! Went ahead and booted into recovery and did the wipes again anyway. Seems to be working great.
I had that problem last night.
What I did was go into Clockwork and installed google apps. Then rebooted and it went through the setup without any problem.
Thanks Cyanogen & Crew
Just wanted to say thanks to all that works on CM 10. I'm running the 9-6-12 nightly on My mobile Beastly S3 & we are very close to stable! Thanks for all your hard work.
I've been flashing the nightly cyaongenmod 10.1 builds on my i747m using cwm.
Is there a way to prevent losing all the settings and apps that I have? For example, if I don't clear data/cache will this cause bad things to happen?
Or is there another way to do this?

Get titanium backup and do a full backup of your apps/data. When you restore, dont restore any system app but you can restore the rest.
And to avoid problems, always clear cache/dalvik.

All you need to do is download the new nightly that you wanna flash, boot into recovery, flash the nightly. If you have any other files that you wanna flash like a kernel, flash them after the nightly. Clear cache & dalvik cache & reboot. You won't lose any apps or settings doing it this way. This is how I update every day. Now if you wanna do a clean install every single time you update, that's another story. The way I just explained to you will work just fine. There is no need in wiping EVERYTHING for every update.

It's not only about wiping everything (Clean flash), having a backup is always good and *needed* imo. Never know when something will go wrong, could be as simple as a corrupted download.
So just to confirm, if I download the latest nightly, boot into cwm, clear cache and dalvik, but don't delete user data, then flash ROM and gapps, it will have all my settings and apps already setup?

Thanks. I didn't think about mentioning that. It's kind of a given to me to keep a good nandroid. Some people may not know though. Thanks for adding that.

I have a touchwiz nandroid and a cm10 nandroid on my SD card and my computer.
Will I have to flash gapps again or will that already be there?

Gotta flash the Gapps everytime you flash a ROM. (Their respective one)

You will only have to flash Gapps the first time. If you update like I told you, you will not have to flash them.

Changing from stable to nightly
Hi,
I'm currently running on a cm 10.1.3 stable (note 2 N7100). I would like to install cm-11-20141027-NIGHTLY-n7100. Do i have to do a complete wipe or just flash the downloaded file from recovery.
cm upgrade manually w/o losing data

Does it apply to stable updates and upgrades also and not only for nightly?
Can I use the same method for updating CM11s to CM12 whenever they release...?
Titanium Backup
Will the Titanium Backup * root be the correct one, or the Titanium Pro?
Hi, in the last minutes i've flashed the 2.7 build of LiquidSmooth Rom from the Paranoid Hello Halo rom... I've done the prcedure like XDA said : Wipe Wipe Wipe (cache, dalvik, system) Flash Rom Flash Gapps. It booted fine but all my apps that i've had on my previous rom was still there... all of them. The most disturbing is my settings were also like I've left them ( disabled pie wifi etc) also my Google Accound was already setuped and good to go. Is it a new feature from flashing 4.2.2 rom to an other 4.2.2 rom ? I've never seen that before. I've also rebooted to make sure it wont boot loop on reboot, and it booted like a charm!
Any clues ?
Weird, never seen that before. Tell us what recovery you have and exactly what you are wiping. Can't think of anything else at the moment I'm sure others will chime in.
Sounds to me like you're not wiping /data. This is where your apps and setting are stored and unless you factory reset using stock recovery, deliberately wipe/format /data, or flash a Rom that wipes it for you, all your apps and settings will remain.
Seems like normal behavior to me.

Ya I re-read it and he just wipes caches and system, definitely need to factory reset lol.

Got it that's why. I was sure wiping system would wipe data too. But do you think its dangerous to not wipe data? Because actually my ROM is rocking right now without issues? Should I reflash it for safety?
It just depends....
It's always best to start clean, especially if you were having problems. But if you want to keep data intact, you should be ok as long as you don't go to an entirely different rom, base, or build.
If you are updating to a newer version of the same build, you're fine. Also if updating to a newer build/version you should be ok, but may have a few hiccups.
However, anytime you go backwards (4.2.2 to 4.1.2) you should wipe it all. The same is true if you are moving to a different base, such as CM to TW. Keeping your internal sdcard data is usually ok, but sometimes it can cause some issues.

Hi,
I started using PA on my Galaxy Nexus with a fresh install of 4.0 Beta 6 about 4 weeks ago (unlocked and rooted via nexus root toolkit, recovery is teamwin).
Since then, I installed every update through Paranoid OTA, so I am on current 20140318 now with GAPPS stock 20140318.
Everything was great.
Suddenly, a few hours ago, the phone started rebooting again and again until I decided to take out the battery.
Since then, it hangs during boot at the PA logo.
I tried reinstalling pa_maguro-4.0-BETA6-20140217.zip and pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20140217-signed.zip through recovery (after backup of course), but this changed nothing.
Fun thing is... I am moving to a new flat tomorrow and really need my phone to organize things.
So if anybody has an idea what I can look at or how this may be fixed, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Stephan
Edit: wiping cache and dalvik cache did not help...
Factory reset and reinstall

Seems like you got stuck in a bootloop. bootloops can occur pretty easily, it’s mainly caused because system files interfering with each other which causes instability and/or crashes at the boot sequence
Try doing a fresh install (use latest recovery version of your recovery)
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- format system and data
- wipe dalvik cache and flash the rom and gapss again
