[Q] Orange Simlock, what have I done wrong? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought a HTC desire locked to orange. I rooted it and upgraded the radio to the latest one and then flashed OpenDesire 2.6.0 only to find that I get a message asking me to enter the simlock pin.
So I bought the simlock pin. This works fine, however after a messages stating that I was succesfull nothing happens. there's a warning sim notification on the top corner of my screen but when I expand the notification bar there is no message. The phone still hasn't registered/acknowledged my sim card though (I cannot make calls etc).
Am I doing things in the wrong order?
Please help.
Thanks,
Craig

Which radio version are you using? The latest ones do not seem to have any problem with Orange phones.

I tried 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 first
and then 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20

You're the first to report SIM lock issues with the latest radios, you on Orange UK?

Yes, orange UK. I'm just trying a different ROM as we speak (DeFroST_3.1)

Those radios have been ok with Orange branded phones so far. Did you let the phone boot after you flashed your radio before you installed the custom ROM?
I would try flashing the latest 2.1 generic RUU (goldcard required). Apparently there are problems trying to sim unlock a phone on some non-stock ROMs.

I understand what a gold card is etc....but why is it needed again here?
I thought the gold card pretty much allowed you to boot into recovery and then flash a rom?
I will try the following first:
1)wipe / clear cache's
2) flash radio and reboot
3)flash rom
This is what I SHOULD be doing right?

When you first updated the radio did you boot into your Orange software? If so, I take it there was no request for a sim unlock code then?
Without a goldcard you can't flash using an RUU (there are no branded Orange ones).
You could also try installing a custom pre-rooted froyo ROM.

I don't think there was a request for simlock. Instead it just rejected the sim.
Oh right....why do I want an RUU? I'm sure I'm missing something here.....My phone's already rooted....I just want a custom rom on here eg. open desire...

People have had problems unlocking their phones on non-stock roms.

Ahh ok. So I apply the RUU rom and unlock....then re-root etc and I won't need to unlock again?

That's what I'd try.

OK, thanks alot mate

Just a quick update. I've flashed RUU and then sim unlock has worked perfectly. I'm now going to root and try a custom rom again. If this fails I guess I'm stuck with RUU = stuck with sense = no wii remote

You will need to update the radio again for the latest roms.

[Q] Do i need to update radio to use with Froyo ?

Hi guys,
I've just rooted the AMOLED HTC Desire (Branded, Simlocked, Orange FR) with the following version:
- HBOOT: 0.75
- Radio : 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
- Firmware version : 1.15
So i have few questions:
- Do i need to update radio to use with froyo ?
- Which radio should i use to remove simlock ?
- Is there any combination of radio + hboot would brick my Desire ?
- Any suggestion on cooked froyo i should use ?
Thank you very much
- no you dont need to upgrade your radio to use froyo, just to use the hd video recording
- you cant remove a simlock with a radio lol
- radio and hboot dont interact with eachother so i doubt it
- everyone seems to use leedroid these days, i like nextsence tho both roms are pretty awsome tho
@AndroHero: Thank you for you quick reply. But i seached forum, and found that each version of firmware does required a specific radio version. And my radio is quite obsolete. I doubt that froyo requires a higher radio version.
They also mentioned that if radio and hboot is not compatible with each other, my phone will be bricked.
And i'm afraid of upgrading to froyo will also upgrade radio and hboot which leads to loosing rooting capability.

i have used froyo with the stock radio i got with my desire, only problem was camcorder crashed, i have the same hboot version as you and used every radio under the sun with no problems, if you flash a custom rom, they will not come with a radio or hboot upgrade so dont worri about that
@AndroHero: I do see the newest version of LeeDroid do require new radio and they said i need a unlock code("Orange users may need an unlock code.")
I don't have a unlock code, but i still use an orange simcard. Is it ok ?

no orange users need to buy a sim unlock code to sim unlock your desire before you can flash a new radio, otherwise you will get network locked ( meaning you cant use the network, phone, internet ect ), after you have sim unlocked your desire you can continue to use your orange sim as usuall but you need to sim unlock your phone
@AndroHero: So said . Is there anyway so that i can update to froyo without upgrade radio ? I see most cooked roms need updated radio to work.
Anyway, if i want update radio, is there anyway to backup current radio and restore later ? Nandroid seems not to be eable to do that

there is a thread the top of the development section with all the radio's, just take a note of your radio and then download it again if nessessary like i said before as far as i know (and have tried) froyo will work with the old radio's just some of the functions will crash like camcorder, when the first htc froyo rom was leaked we had no new radio so everyone used it with the ones they had

The latest 2 radio's can be used on Orange without an unlock code.
Thank you guys, i will cross my fingers and do a radio update tonight
Old (4.x) radios are not supported with froyo. It may seem to work, but you will end up with problems, and devs will usually refuse to offer any support if you have an old radio.
Some custom roms will flash the radio as well.
I answered all this on MoDaCo this morning...
I've just updated radio to the newest, but the download speed seems never reach 0.5mbps, uplad is 1.6 mbps.I tried with iphone 4 (with the same sim card),it can reach 4mbps for download and 2mbps upload easily. Any idea ?

also i've herd people get past the radio problem by doing the update without the sim card in the phone. and then inserting it in.
they might be talking BS, but it might be fact. best thing to do is unlock the handset anyways

Have you checked your APN settings?
hi,i realized the problem is from the operator. There are 3 access point, and only one of them allows me connecting at max speed. "Orange Internet" is suck. Use "Orange World" instead.
Hi! I am in your same situation. I have a Orange branded Desire. Finally, did you update the radio without need SIM unlock?
Thanks
Yes, I CONFIRM that you can update it without simlock.

[Q] unable to downgrade or root

i performed an OTA (Froyo) update on my phone and now i'm unable to root or downgrade so i can root.
i tried the downgrading method from here and i get an "incorrect cid" error
using unrevoked3 doesn't work, the process takes a long time and the phone just boots normally and it says "root failed"
i tried using a RUU and eventually ended up with an "wrong or incorrect cid" error too
so i'm guessing it's some error with the CID or something else i'm missing. how do i determine which is the suitable RUU for my CID? and how can i determine if my phone is CDMA or SLCD?
i'm not sure what to do now. i can post my phone info if needed.
What ROM version are you using at the mo?
stock HTC desire ROM
Baseband version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Software number 2.32.415.3
Not seen an RUU with that version so you'd have to debrand (using a gold card) and then root that instead...the CID error is because you're not using a gold card
As for other questions:
- You're GSM, not CDMA, as you use a SIM card in your Desire
- Screen types are SLCD or AMOLED. New Desires (built August onwards) tend to be SLCD so you can only use RUUs with versions 2.x.xxx.x onwards (unless otherwise stated)
i still have to use a gold card even though the phone is unbranded? i'll give it a try i guess. i wanted to avoid making a goldcard but i guess i'm running out of options.

If you get incorrect CID that means that your phone is branded, hence the goldcard
If you're phone was unbranded you'd be on version x.xx.405.x - anything is either a region variant or branded. Most debranding guides use the WWE ROM (x.xx.405.x)
yeah it could be a region specific phone, that would explain the ROM version and the CID errors. but its definetely not branded, no extra software on it and its works with any network. does that mean i have to debrand, downgrade and then root?
Just have to debrand, use 2.10.405.2 and flash it with a gold card and then root - no downgrade required
- Insert a Goldcard
- Flash this using this RUU:RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49 .00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=853178&page=3
then u can root it using unrevoked if u dont have goldcard dowload this file http://www.mediafire.com/?pby74hjgv9t9tmu put it on the sd card turn the mobile off then press volume up while keeping it pressed press the power button then it will go HBOOT then PB99IMG.zip will flash ur desire u can root it again using unrevoked.
Why would they want to flash a Vodafone UK ROM onto their phone?? Bad advice, there...
Get the one from my signature of you still want to be unbranded
This one 2.29.405.2 WWE will not work on desire with RUU ARA_2.32.415.3 this the only way to root the device again pls see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853178&page=3
So why did you post the Vodafone UK one before? And how do you now the EU is on that ROM?? It doesn't matter which you use so long as you have a gold card

Yea..
I think his best bet is to downgrade using Teppic's utility to the WWE 1.720 and then upgrade to whatever version of his ROM is avilable on Shipped roms. And root. And..I have yet to see Unrvoked failing on any software version.
Use a goldcard while using Teppic's utility too. That will bypass the CID check
Why downgrade at all? So long as you're on ANY stock ROM you can root it. Downgrading is completely unneccessary
believe me I got this RUU ARA_2.32 I ve tried all the methods u mentioned here only the vodadafone RUU could resolve this problem all other methods gave different kind of errors without any success.
Of course it'll work, if not THEN use Teppic's downgrade tool and flash whatever ROM you want

I suggested that only b/c he said he tried unrevoked and it failed..Of course unrevoked is supposed to work on every software..That said, I havent seen 2.32.415.3 before and thought maybe it has patched the Unrevoked vulnerability..

Would help if you could describe the "different errors"..
The solution could have been anything starting from incorrect drivers..
I think I know what he's trying to say, he wants me to use the vodaphone one as a stepping stone before moving on to an unbranded ROM and rooting. But won't that still require a gold card anyway since its not the same version ROM?

[Q] Do I need to SIM Unlock??

Hello All,
When I first got my desire back in April from Orange UK, I had the default Eclair build. I rooted and moved to a Froyo custom ROm and Radio and found I was locked out of my own network as the ROM was of course De-Branded. At the time I paid and got an unlock code.
I recently had to send my phone back for Warranty repair with HTC and they have returned it to me, once again with the current Orange ROM/Radio versions and having changed some inards, I now have a new IMEI number too. I have so far tried two unlock sites but both came back with a "sorry we don't have a code for that IMEI" and so I am very wary of putting another custom ROM on my device in case I get SIM locked out of my own network again.
My question is this:
I vaguely remember that the issue with Orange users being locked out of their own network when using the debranded froyo ROm's was due to changing the Radio (as we needed a 5.x.x.x radio when moving from ecalir to froyo). Since my current Radio is 32.48.00.32U_5.10.05.30, if I get a custom ROM without Radio and carry on using the one I have (already Froyo compatible) will I be ok or will I get simlocked again?
Many thanks in advance
David
Strange, I always thought ROM had nothing to do with your SIM lock... Maybe it depends on what phone you have because I have SIM unlocked my HTC magic after owning it a year long and then after that installed many different ROMs without being SIM locked again.

You don't need to unlock anymore. Newer radios don't lock orange desires anymore.
I did the exact same thing as you, when I got my second orange desire I didn't need to unlock it.

That's generally the case, but in the past flashing a non orange froyo radio on a locked orange desire would lock you out of all networks...including orange. It has not been an issue afaik since orange released froyo, all radios after this point did not lock orange phones.
I wish we knew more about this bug because if the radio can manipulate the phones lock state maybe a custom radio can be made to unlock your phone...that's a big maybe though, and I don't know what I'm talking about

Its up to you. If you've got froyo now the radio will work fine with any rom. I've never had any trouble with my new orange desire, flashed loads of radios.
I think i would have a word with HTC, your phone was unlocked when you sent it to HTC for repair, so it should be unlocked on return to you, even if they have changed the mainboard.

Flash unbranded ROM question

Hi everyone,
I bought an unlocked Desire HD, but I guess it's from German Vodafone.
Everything works fine etc, but I guess I rely on Vodafone for the latest update, isn't it?
I want to remove the carrier (Vodafone) stuff from my device. Is it possible to flash the original HTC (no carrier stuff) Rom on my device and also get the latest OTA from HTC, when it's available?
I searched via the forums already, but couldn't find a proper answer.
So I hope someone can help me

if you do a search on how to make a goldcard, once you have done that, you can just flash a generic htc ruu
Yes, although you may have to create a gold card first, also you don't say what your Firmware version is, but full instructions can be found here

Sorry, I'm on 1.39, fully rooted and Radio S-OFF & ENG S-OFF
Thanks for the help gonna search the gold card thingie
I went to Clockwork Recovery and selected "Select zip & update".
When it opens the zip it says: "Can't open the zip (bad)" and abort the whole thing.
I wanted to try a stock 1.32 rom, don't know what I'm doing wrong :-s
You do not do it in clockworkmod, but in bootloader. Just put the PD98IMG.zip to your SD card and reboot to bootloader. It will ask you automatically whether you want to flash.
OH i see
Thanks it worked ^^

[Q] Serious problems after manual FASTBOOT FLASH

Long story.
Was originally a UK Orange branded HTC Desire HD, running OTG updated 2.3.5, unrooted
I originally unlocked the stock device using the HTCDev method, all went to plan. I then installed clockworkmod and from there installed jellytime 10.
All good so far. I then applied a sim unlock code so we could use other SIMs in the device. Although the unlock code was accepted, with a 'Success' message, we could not get the phone to log on to other networks. Googling this problem suggested that the SIM unlock needed to be done under the stock rom. So I went looking further and found these two files:
RUU_Ace_Orange_UK_1.84.61.2_Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3_release_170856_signed.exe
RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe
Both of which were supposed to be compatible with the phone.
Neither would install when run on an XP machine with the correct HTC drivers installed. So I extracted the ROM.zip from the WWE RUU above, opened it with winrar, and manually FASTBOOT FLASHed the .img files within, including boot.img, lib, img, recovery.img, and others. Some would not copy or install, but those above definitely did. (flashing at 5 am!)
However, none of this worked, so I rebooted into clockworkmod and reinstalled jellytime 10 and its boot.img.
Now, no matter what rom i put on it, the rom cannot access the sdcard (although hboot and CM have no problem doing so) and the phone can see no cell networks.
the phone current state is:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.00.027
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot

Anybody got any ideas on how to fix my phone?
You unlocked the bootloader with 2.00.0027? I had a Canadian Desire HD with the same bootloader and I couldn't unlock the bootloader until I upgraded to 2.00.0029.
I followed the guide in this forum to unlock my bootloader, get s-off, root, load 4ext, and load a custom rom. By doing all of this, my phone automatically became carrier unlocked.

Yes, the antenna was in place when no network was available.
If you can tell me what radio to flash for an Orange branded UK Desire HD - and more to the point, where to find it! - I'd be happy to give it a try, provided I can get hboot to allow me to flash the radio.

Thank you. I've previously tried two from that list, Orange UK 1.84.61.2 / CSL-HK CHT 1.84.832.2 and HTC 3.12.405.1 WWE.
I had great difficulty installing them as the fastboot flash radio radio.img process would fail, saying remote not allowed.
I was unable to s-off the phone using the methods most pages talked about (froyo/gingerbread exploit), the AAHK was unavailable and frankly, I don't really know what I'm doing.
The WD98IMG.zip method refused to install the zipped radio.img. As a workaround I extracted the rom.zip from the HTC WWE RUU above, unzipped it to a folder, replaced recovery.img with CM recovery.img and also replaced the radio.img with the one from the Orange RUU. Zipped the lot back up, put it on SD card, and hboot picked it up and flashed it.
This got me a working ROM with CM recovery, at which point I installed jellytime11. Then I fastbooted and flashed the boot.img. Once in Jellytime (and here's a tip - if it fails to boot, go and format the cache again) the radio started working. Don't know how stable it is and given how difficult it seems for me to change the radio rom, I will need a good reason to change it again.
Never flashed a rom before three days ago.
I was also having issues with the radio after rooting, unlocking the BL, and getting s-off so I just loaded the most recent radio and it worked.
My baseband is 12.69a.60.29u_26.17.14.11.m.
It's easier to flash roms with s-off as you can just install from cwm without having to extract certain files from the zip.
