Will the HTC phones have this UI anytime soon ?
ELSE Mobile phone user interface
VIDEO: Hands-on with the ELSE Access Linux Platform smartphone
this is what i thought wm7 was going to look like
That 'home' menu looks pretty cool, the rest of the phone, eh. What's up with those side buttons?
However, their actual 'phone' functionality niceities are interesting - e.g. call handling while in another app, or during a meeting, etc. I'd actually pay for that as an app for our phones!
Also, their multitasking handling was cool.
BTW: Probably the wrong forum

Where should it be then ?
what category ?
Hi ilordvader,
You should go on the official site for more info: http://www.firstelse.com/
Also, it has nothing to do with Windows Phone 7 series (This UI is based on Limo).
To my mind, this thread should be moved in General forums.
Cheers.
This is actually much better than stupid iPhone-like WP7. And it even multitasks.

Multitasking is not special. Every phone EXCEPT the iPhone multitasks. Windows Mobile has been doing it for a decade.

Of course. I was trying to be sarcastic, because WP7 (just like iPhone) will not have true multitasking.
BTW,
The company which is responsible for this phone is an Israeli company called Else (foremly Emblaze). Another israeli designed cellphone is the Modu (or Modo, i'm not sure) which is intended for developing markets.

I hate tiny buttons
I love WP7 for it's big buttons.
I have said time and again, when you are mobile, you are HANDICAPPED. You cannot be looking for tiny buttons while you are walking down the street and typing an email or browsing.
So you need a phone with a large(er) size i.e HD2, and big buttons.
HD2's biggest flaw is it's array of tiny buttons on the bottom.

This thing has to be moved onto another forum.
Anyway, you can see that it is Linux-based, so maybe we can have it when we'll get a working Linux kernel for the HD2!
...Or on other devices (that are already running Linux just fine) like Diamond, Blackstone, Raphael etc.!

it would have been interesting if you talked about the hardware that's running the phone it would be interesting if we could boot that up on our devices the phone intergation is very slick i really liked the way it handled the phone call
i would like to see how it's developed in the future and if they release a version of hardware with a slide out keyboard if so i think i'd be interested in makin the switch if the development got big enough as thing here on xda have gotten

they should worry about the 10%, because they are not a very well known company and they could use all the customers they can get, i saw the ui about 1 month ago, and after that i read about it again yesterday in this thread. they would be better off selling the ui idea to a bigger OEM or MS or Apple or Google, because only then this ui will become popular.

Probably the best way for WM7 to sell those millions of phones that Ballmer has predicted would be to work even closer with HTC.
The Ultimate WM7 phone would be the HTC Touch Pro 3 with a 4.3 inch screen, the same tilt screen with HD definition, the same amazing physical keyboard, a 1.5 ghz Snapdragon processor, 512 mb RAM, 62gb micro sd enabled, and a 8 megapixel camera with 8x zoom and HD video enabled. Man that would be an amazing phone.
Oh yeah, also, I've heard rumours that the hardware requirements of Microsoft for WM7 don't allow a physical keyboard, is that corrrect?

Not correct. LG already has WP7 phone with keyboard.
My "perfect" device would rather be SE. I truly hate HTC design,
it's tacky and tasteless.
Camera's aren't great either.

Ah yes. SE is that.
i don't know if design is a very important issue when it comes to a phone, but I was talking more about functionality when I referred to HTC. Also I don't think the HTC Touch Pro 2 looks "tacky and tasteless" at all. It actually has a very modern finish and it looks sleek. The tilt of the screen only reinforces the look. I do like SE, because it has created quality phones for years now. However, the problem with SE is that they are not willing to compete for market share to the same extent as HTC. This leaves their products bland and inferior to the technology that HTC is using. It seems like they are playing catch-up every time they release a phone, just look at Xperia...

I know what you mean.
No doubt HTC does tremendous work, however remember SE produces also feature phones,
while HTC is smartphones only manufacturer.
But they did also great work in software....
Design - for me it's important. Also software, UI.
Now UI will be pretty the same everywhere....
Of course I only express my opinions. TouchPro 2 looks nice,
however I see X1/X2 much better in this regard.

There's going to be an Xperia with WP7 but it does look like it won't beready at launch. They will be a month or two (this is a guess) late for the launch.
I remember seeing them listed on the original hardware partners list but they are absent on the initial release list.
EDIT://
The Dell Lightning phone looks like the one to beat right now. http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/21/dell-lightning-the-ultimate-windows-phone-7-device-leaks-out/
Asus is the manufacturer of the slate WP7 prototype they've showed off some. It seems that HTC has a run for it's money. Here's hoping that they can put something out that can beat these.
ya but the keyboard on the Dell lightning is on the short side, which is kind of redundant in terms of functionality and that's going to be a big factor when it comes to sales.
Completely agree!
Hope at least some of that specs can be found on the successor of Rhodium.
I really like HTC designs, I won´t go for another brand really...

I've always loved the portrait slider form factor. With a portrait slider you still get the benefit of the hardware buttons but you can easily type with both hands or with a single hand.
I really want it but I think on the leaked material it said it was going to be on Sprint. I'm really hoping that the Samsung phone, due to that massive camera, will come to Verizon so I can buy it.
I live a bit off the beaten path and the only carrier that gives me good coverage at home, work, and inbetween is Verizon.

Countries at Launch:
■Australia
■Austria
■Belgium
■Canada
■France
■Germany
■Hong Kong
■India
■Ireland
■Italy
■Mexico
■New Zealand
■Singapore
■Spain
■Switzerland

Languages:
English, French, Italian, German and Spanish
Depending on what languages you can speak you might be able to buy one and have it shipped from Germany since it's closer or possibly the UK. Since Europe is GSM you should be able to just pop your SIM card in there. However, you probably won't be able to use zunePass and potentially marketplace access (at least for paid apps)
It's also available in other countries than that list. It's not Apple, so the individual manufactures are allowed to sell it in all regions they want to.

It depends on when it will get released. The countries listed are for the INITIAL release in October/November. Other countries are slated for later dates. I think I heard of a second release for a month or two after the initial but nothing is set in stone since there hasn't been a press release. I'm guessing that the countries for the second release aren't finalized yet due to no official list being leaked. But for the initial release it'll be only for those countries listed above.
Looks like WP7 is getting more and more device makers all the time. Acer is the latest to sign on:
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/acers-on-board-with-windows-phone-7
Hum interesting change I wish I knew why they changed. Microsoft eluded last year that Acer and Asus especially would be launch partners. But after seeing the lack of relevance from either I'm curious as to what Acer motivation is. Nevertheless more hardware is not a bad thing if its in a mango flavour
Sent from my Venue Pro using Board Express
Interesting indeed. I wasn't aware Acer was suppose to be a launch partner. I was aware ASUS was doing some concept hardware well before launch. I remember drooling over the ASUS concept. I think a great many will be on board once WP7 hits its stride.
Thats one company I'll never pick up hardware from... After attempting to use one of their laptops I'd rather juggle Magic Johnsons blood samples and razorblades than buy anything from them.

As you'll no doubt be aware, Qualcomm currently enjoys a stranglehold on processing hardware inside Windows Phone handsets. Its Snapdragon chip stars in both Microsoft's original and updated chassis spec for the platform, but its hegemony may soon be coming to an end. STMicroelectronics (the ST in ST-Ericsson) boss Carlo Bozotti is cited by Forbes as saying that Nokia will use ST-Ericsson hardware to power at least some of its Windows Phones. The dual-core U8500, a long-time Nokia favorite, is touted as the first such system-on-chip to appear, with its successors helping to populate Nokia's expansive WP lineup in 2012. The only intel we've had so far on Nokia's initial handsets for the new OS revolved around Qualcomm-based devices, so even if ST-Ericsson is indeed going to infiltrate the Windows Phone ecosystem, it doesn't look likely to be among the very first Nokias out of the gate.

What is "pretty low", what the "standards" (RFC, ISO - show the proof link!), what the "sadly zoom"? What are you talking about???
I'm professional developer, working on the startup specializing in smart phones (video delivery). I saw (and work with) a lot of (no, A LOT OF!) different handsets, running different platforms, from the different manufacturers. But my "low resolution" Samsung Focus display is exceptionally good! I have no problem to read/zoom text, watch video etc. even on a daylight (where is iPhone, 4 example, sux at all). So, if you have a problem with WP7 resolution - buy a pair of glasses!
criticisms promote changes and improvements. developers understand this, normally.
if the device were perfect, there would be no need for improvement of any facet.
