Shortcut or widget to change HTC mail download frequency? - Desire General

Hi all,
Pretty much what it says on the tin? Is there a way to change the download frequency of emails in a shortcut or widget instead of having to go through all of the menus? Also if I set up my work profile as downloading emails as they arrive can I set downloads to manual on my everyday profile or do these settings cover all profiles
Thanks in advance guys

Dunno of any widget, but you can set different frequencies in custom peak and off peak times if that helps.

I was kind of hoping that it might change the settings when I changed the scene but it didn't. The reason I ask is that I work shifts that aren't set so u can be working one day and not another so setting specific days and times is no good for me. I need to be able to turn on the email push as and when I need it but a shortcut or widget would have been very handy. Any other suggestions that might suit this kind of use?

The only straight forward thing I can think of is to set sync period for peak/off peak. Then put the 'power control' widget somewhere in sense. It has a 'sync' icon which glows green when on, then when you work turn it on, when you don't turn it off. Hope this helps.

yeh i will give that a go and see what its like.
do you know if there is any way that you can change these settings in different scenes so it would be as easy as changing seen to set up mail sync options?

Besides the widget I can't think of any way you can change the sync frequency by changing the scenes, sorry

is there such a thing as scheduled silent/profile software

hi
i have searched google prior to posting here and it came up with photo contacts, but thats a lot more than what i need, also when i checked compatibility it said if you have an HTC s620 you need the smartphone edition, but looking at the features the SP edition doesnt seem to detail the scheduled times of silence/profiles like the touch screen version
all i want to have enabled is this:
lets say at 11pm each night, the phone makes itself silent.
then at 8am in the morning it reverts to normal profile again.
on my iphone, i have the kate software which does that for me, but nothing i can see for the excalibur
if anyone knows of anything that would be great
thanks
quaddy
I haven't tried this, but I believe you could set up an appointment in your calendar from, say, 11pm-8am repeating daily. Windows Mobile can set your profile as silent just like being in a meeting for that time period. It'd be the cheap-and-easy fix.
CT Scheduler, Autoflight, and Switchprofile! are two non-free applications that can do what you want.
DontForget and Snooze are two free ones that might work.
Check clickapps.com, smartphone-freeware.com, and connectivetools.com for them.
Yeah just set an appointment at the time u want it to be silent and set your status to busy I think. Then set your profile to automatic to when even that appointment starts it will automatically be silent
I use Cell Profile Switcher, it switches profiles based on what cell tower i am connected to.

idk
i havent tried i out yet but that might wrk
WOW - thanks for all the suggestions, greatly appreciated!

Clock setting itself one hour ahead unprovoked...anyone else?

Hi Guys,
Forgive me if i missed this in the search, but I couldn't find this subject already covered.
My issue is, that the clock on my TP2 keeps setting itself one hour ahead. I set the country and city ofcourse for my location but cannot find the settings for automatic/manual summer/winter time or where ever i might have missed setting a proper timezone.
Thanks for any feedback
Do you have automatic daylight correction switched on?
Originally yeah butonly when I first got it not anymore since I
changed the setting. typing this reply on it too cool!

err... i might have, but i cannot seem to find the setting... pointer please?
thanks
I found with my phone (I am in Perth, Western Australia) that my time kept getting set to a timezone that was GMT + 8 but that was on daylight savings and so my time was 1 hour out.
I fixed it by turning off auto time update:
- All settings
- Personal
- Phone
- Time Zones
- Uncheck 'Automatic change time zone and clock'
Hope that helps.
Thanks dude, i found the setting now.
The really odd part is, that the setting wasn't checked on... I tried that now and will update when i know if the clock keep setting itself one hour ahead
OK i found out that the clock still sets itself one hour ahead regardles of the setting to automatically change timezones in the phone settings. any other help is much welcome thanks guys.
Are your pc and phone on the same regional setting?
I had a similar problem when mine wasn't
the pc is set for the correct time zone, and i cannot find the place on the phone to set the timezone manually, except if the home city has anything to do with it
Ok, have you used the Weather Database Editor to add you home location to the system?
If so, the you need to go to the thread that you downloaded the weather app from, and on page 3, I think, are the instructions rto edit the weather file. the weather app misses a bit apparently
no, my city was already on the list to chose from ...

Whats this Icon?

Been playing around with my new HTC Desire. Added a new widget called power control.
Accidentally i clicked the 2nd last icon which is next to the Brightness Option. Cant seem to tell what it does. Does it needs to be On (with the green bar under it) or needs to be off. Clicking the other icons it shows what they are for but not this one. Can someone help.
Picture of the widget attached and the current state of it.

Thanks for the help.
thats the SYNC option. To sync things like email, facebook etc based on what frequency you set for each.
Guess i need it on, because i get my google apps account to sync with the phone and the google apps emails also come there. Check facebook and twitter manually so its good.
Thanks for the help. Gonna turn the option on. Cheers

I wish I knew how to do this as well. I don't even see an option to change the intervals at all. If you find out please let me know!

You go into accounts&sync settings in the main settings section and you have to have the sync on otherwise it wont let you change it then just click on the account go to the sync settings and change it! Hope that helps.
Email retrieval
I did some research and it turns out that Gmail uses a special push mechanism. There is no interval. It is always listening with a low power service. No need to turn it down.
For those that care, it might be Microsoft's mail push mechanism or XAMPP, people aren't sure which. Some docs say it just opens a connection to a webservice, which would mean XAMPP is what they've converted to.
The option to reduce Gmail possible power consumption is to change from the Gmail client to the standard email client and set up polling. The only time Gmail won't be getting pushes is if Data Network is disabled.
Hope this helps.

Thank you because I checked and I knew I wasn't going crazy when I couldn't find it anywhere. I'll see how my battery does with it syncing for a full work day.

[Q] autosync account

Hi, does anyone know if there is any app that allows you to schedule or determine a time interval in which the device enable automatic synchronization?

Well first off I believe you've posted in the Themes & Apps section when really this should have gone in the Q&A section.... But..
I'm sure there is something like Tasker or another app that could do exactly what you're asking. But it may be worth your while to look into UnBounce.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54953199
It allows you set a time period for your phones Wakelocks and Alarms. You could definitely change your sync settings with UnBounce, however it may effect all of your accounts syncing . Take a look at it anyways, if nothing else it'll greatly improve for battery life!!
I use tasker to turn off auto sync at night and then back on in the morning.
