is there such a thing as scheduled silent/profile software - HTC Excalibur

hi
i have searched google prior to posting here and it came up with photo contacts, but thats a lot more than what i need, also when i checked compatibility it said if you have an HTC s620 you need the smartphone edition, but looking at the features the SP edition doesnt seem to detail the scheduled times of silence/profiles like the touch screen version
all i want to have enabled is this:
lets say at 11pm each night, the phone makes itself silent.
then at 8am in the morning it reverts to normal profile again.
on my iphone, i have the kate software which does that for me, but nothing i can see for the excalibur
if anyone knows of anything that would be great
thanks
quaddy

I haven't tried this, but I believe you could set up an appointment in your calendar from, say, 11pm-8am repeating daily. Windows Mobile can set your profile as silent just like being in a meeting for that time period. It'd be the cheap-and-easy fix.
CT Scheduler, Autoflight, and Switchprofile! are two non-free applications that can do what you want.
DontForget and Snooze are two free ones that might work.
Check clickapps.com, smartphone-freeware.com, and connectivetools.com for them.

Yeah just set an appointment at the time u want it to be silent and set your status to busy I think. Then set your profile to automatic to when even that appointment starts it will automatically be silent

I use Cell Profile Switcher, it switches profiles based on what cell tower i am connected to.

idk
i havent tried i out yet but that might wrk

WOW - thanks for all the suggestions, greatly appreciated!

Automatic Time/TimeZones - Setting

I have an Unlocked T-mobile Dash that I use on Rogers network in Toronto Canada.
The value for Automatic Time/TimeZones in Settings->Clock&Alarm keeps switching back to "Enable" on it's own. And that in turn screws with the dates and times of my appointments.
Has anyone else had the same problem?
Is there a way to change default setting for this parameter to "Disable"?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
David
Wish I had good news for you... but for some reason T-Mobile has disabled the ability to turn this off. It will only stay off until you reboot the phone. I've read that other phones, the Blackjack in particular, retain this setting when it's changed.
Someone else may come up with a registry setting to make the change permanent, wish I knew of one
I hate this too !!!!!!!!!!!
you're not the only one with this problem...
I've an open problem ticket with microsoft for perhaps some answers but don't hold your breath
meanwhile, no one has a fix for this...
the only way to resolve the issue is to fall in line with the microsoft implementation of outlook meeting/appointment scheduling which is to always record the meeting/appointment time RELATIVE to the timezone you are in when you make the entry
for example, if you're in Dallas TX on Central time and need to record a meeting in NYC 2days from now, if the NYCity meeting is at 2pm you MUST record the meeting time as 1pm which is the meeting time relative to the Dallas timezone. When you arrive in NYCity and you turn on your DASH/Excalibur it will automatically (since enable is forced ON) reset time to NYCity local time and reset the timezone to Eastern. When this happens your meeting time becomes 2pm, the correct time.
I hate this implementation but its a known "FEATURE" of WM5 and Outlook calendar operation. My investigation has found three groups of opinions:
- those who have learned to live with this implementation and agree with it
- those who have never figured it out and have given up
- those like me who hate the implementation and are looking for microsoft to add a checkbox to outlook meeting which makes the meeting time absolute and unaffected by change in timezone
Its also been suggested that a program like CityTimeSP might work ... I've downloaded and tested the 15day trial and it works as advertised allowing one to setup calendar events in other timezones without having to make the mental timezone calculation so that when you arrive and your phone time/timezone syncs all your meetings will show the correct time.
http://www.codecity.net/prodctsp.htm
good luck
A little clarification: The previous poster mentioned a "microsoft implementation" of "always recording the meeting/appointment time RELATIVE to the timezone you are in" -- this is his implementation, not Microsoft's. Once understood, the Microsoft implementation is actually pretty slick.
You can specify a time zone for an appointment when entering it in desktop Outlook -- there's a button in the appointment entry window labeled 'time zone'; when you click it you can specify alternate time zones. It's actually a powerful way to handle time zones that I was unaware of until a couple days ago. While at home, alternate time-zone appointments display earlier/later (depending on the time-zone) -- once you get there, they display correctly as your Dash pulls time and time-zone from your new location.
The real issue is that when creating appointments on your smartphone, there isn't a way to enter time zone info. Until there is, you can enter 'away' time-zone appointments on your desktop and sync them, or edit ones you've created on your phone after they sync to Outlook.
Or, jump through some hoops and add another layer to your calendar with the Citytime product, kind of overkill just to deal with time zones, but it is an option.
Pocket Informant for the PPC (not smartphone) does allow the editing of time zone info in an appointment -- hopefully a future release of the smartphone version of Pocket Informant (Papyrus) will offer this as well.
Regardless of my phrasing, I suggest you go to desktop Outlook help and search for the keyword "timezone", then read the "about timezone" and "troubleshooting timezone" items which should clarify how microsoft has implemented timezone processing.
Same exact thing happens to me and I am on Rogers Canada as well. I just learn to change the auto time zone back to disabled everytime I time I reset.
How interesting

Does this happen on a HTC S620 as well?
oh, I am on FIDO, Canada.. which I guess is Robbers too?
B
It's probably a firmware thing. I am using a TMOBILE DASH if it matters. I am too lazy to upgrade the firmware to HTC 620 though
My dash changes from Pacific time to Mountain time... No date change tho.
looking at the date of the original post ... I believed this is due to the extended "daylight saving time" the USA implemented this year (2007)
there have since been a patch release to resolved this issue:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/daylightsaving/default.mspx
Was just reading a similar thread in HowardForums. They don't have a sure-fire fix either. It really is frustrating. I have just learnt to reset the time zone info each time I have had to reset my phone.
I fly a lot and my Dash is the only WM device I have ever owned that updates itself to time of the country I am visiting even if I have this option turned off.
OK, I can live with that if I have to, but when I arrive back in my country (UK) and turn my phone back on the time (and appointments) remain as at the last destination forcing me to have to manually update the time and turn off auto-time zone settings AGAIN.
The feature does not stay turned off though, because the next time I arrive abroad.....Bam, the auto-time zone settings have turned them selves back on again and the entire cycles starts again.
I am using the dreadfully buggy T-Mobile WM6. Hopefully when HTC finally release their WM6 version the problem will have been fixed.
Yup, I feel your pain. I am an airline Pilot, so you can imagine how frustrated I get!! I hope there is a fix for this soon. Otherwise, I really like the Dash.
Same here It drives me nuts.
The solution is to use the timezone feature in Outlook. Specifiy the time-zone for your appointments in Outlook. If you do this, then everything displays correctly as you change timezones. It's actually a slick feature if used correctly. It's even easier than complaining about it
That's not what I am 'complaining' about.
Even with the auto-time zone off....
I leave the UK. Clock = UTC
I arrive in Orlando and the time changes to UTC-5
I arrive back in the UK and the phone is still on UTC-5
With the setting off it should stay on UTC time forever.
It wouldn't be so bad it if chnaged the time without me wanting to do it, but the fact it does not change back to my home time zone on arrival back home is irritating.
Works great for me -- must be there's something wrong with your device.

WM6 Live (Email SYNC Settings Fix - not saving)?

I finally had an evening with WM6 LIVE and AS RECIEVED/ALWAYS on for emails and man is this QUICKKKKKKKK --- in terms of PUSH email its almost freakish fast.
I was sending emails from other accounts, specifically Yahoo and work accounts and BOOOOOOOOM it hit my 8525 almost instant...
Then - not sure if it was the reboot, or what, but I can no longer get those "as recieved" settings or anything other than MANUAL to stick for Email-SYNC.
Is there a new version or fix to make this work guys. Part of me makes me think this "could" be a server forcing those settings back to me but wanted to check.
I could not have been more impressed - it was lightning fast and I was feeling in love with hotmail again and thinking about forwarding to hotmail for that Push.
Advice? - thanks for anything ---- maybe there is a new version I just can not seem to find one.
Thanks all
Remove the settings from activesync (on your device). Now re-enter them and warm-boot the device:
to warm booth the device:
Press and hold the power button until the confirm box appears
Select Yes, the device will power down
power on the device as normal
Only thing i can think of is a soft reset was carried out before the settings took.
THANKS!!!
Man SO MUCH thanks for the quick response - I am trying RIGHT NOW!!!!
A million thanks - I am assuming they stick for you then correct?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

My settings just work as normal, when there is a change on either the server or my device they synchronise.
OK - Let me be more clear ok.
This is WINDOWS MOBILE LIVE - then the settings associated with LIVE. Here is where you set how LIVE aka Hotmail will be delivered, which is essentially HOTMAIL-PUSH... Which is freakin awesome......... However, the settings (and I saw this posted once before) they wont stick. It now defaults back to MANUAL only and not AS RECIEVED.
So the steps are -
1 - LIVE is installed
2 - Synch performs first time
3 - Then in PROGRAMS you adjust the live settings, one is SYNC and this is the issue.
I checked for a Registry setting on the device but could not find any to hard-set them there.
Just fyi

Wndows LIVE Sync Schedule
The Setting is:
Option #3 - Sync Schedule
Option is - Sync Frequency (AS ITEMS ARRIVE)
This is the one that allows Push to be received on the 8525 and won't stick. BUT - it did last not and not sure if it is being Server governed. When this was in place I've seen PUSH perhaps better than I have with a BlackBerry. AMAZING.
But now it just resets to MANUAL once you save it with DONE.
Any help on this one folks is much appreciated.
Same Problem - No settings stick
I am having the same problems with my Windows Live settings. Just went to play around with the Sync Schedule settings and it looks like NONE of the settings stick, not just the delivery frequency. I didn't even have to soft reset for the settings to undo. So this is definitely an issue.
I have Live set to sync emails, but NOT messenger and contacts.
I noticed this happening last week with LSVW and still doing it today with Black VI.

I don't think it is really not sticking...it just shows as not sticking. I have noticed this back in wmxl 0.10 and even posted about it. Mine does not seem to stick either, but my hotmail stays constantly connected and shows up as pushed mail, even without settings sticking. the question I am dying to get answered? Are either of you able to get sound and onscreen notifications from windows live mail?
OK - I agree with you as well and noticed this after I posted. Oddly for some reason I was not getting some emails, dug, and saw nothing sticking but dont think that was the issue. I do as well see CONNECTED which makes me feel good.
Next - NO!!! I have tried like heck to see which alert ties to this but am not able at all as you mention to tie an alert/notification to the incoming LIVE emails.
Boy is this nice --- but a few items need worked out. I also wish somehow without servers that support Direct Push, I am in a major BlackBerry shop that I could get ActiveSync as middleware for PUSH. They removed the net option and I have tried every push option with not as much luck. I want ActiveSync with NET and PUSH/NetSync ....

Believe me I think I have looked at every possible registry entry and cannot figure out which one would fix this.
Anybody have the phone not waking up every once in a while after installing mobile live? It clearly what causes the problem because I used wm6 black 1.2 for a week and no problem then I installed live and my phone started hanging. Is there a solution for that problem?

Midnight Reminders

Tough to believe I'm the first to post about this, but I did my share of searching in this Rhodium forum with no luck, so here goes...
I use the Outlook calendar religiously, and have many "all day events" scheduled such as birthdays and anniversaries, etc. My standard reminder for these events takes place 2.5 days in advance, so that Outlook (and my phone) lets me know at noon 3 days prior to the event.
But now, with the Tilt 2 (stock AT&T ROM), not only do I get reminded per the Outlook setting, the phone issues another reminder at the moment the event occurs, meaning my phone lets me know at MIDNIGHT at the start of the day in question. Same happens for normal events too, mind you. For example, I have a meeting at 3pm, 30 minute reminder. The reminder pops up at 2:30pm, and I'll dismiss it, no worries. But at 3pm sharp, the phone lets me know once again that meeting is right now.
So bottom line, is there any way to prevent the secondary "time-of" notifications from being issued? I could use the sleep.

Great question. I have the same problem but no answer for you unfortunately.
I had a probem like that long ago on another WM PDA.
I used a program called PMClean to clean up the notification database.
I do NOT know if that will help and do NOT know if it is even compatable with the newer OSs.

Appreciate the suggestion, but I don't think that'll do it. It's not a case of orphaned reminders in the event db or notification queue, it's by design that the reminders go off at "game time" in addition to their user-defined reminder. Thanks anyway.
Anyone else have an idea? Thanks,

I don't think the OP wants to turn off ALL reminder notifications. He just wants to silence the midnight reminder for All Day events in Outlook.

This.
The Outlook reminders are behaving normally, displaying at their proscribed lead times for events for which I have defined a reminder. However, and regardless of whether an Outlook reminder is set for an event, the phone reminds you secondarily at the time of said event. It is this second reminder that I wish to eliminate. Unfortunately, the phone's notification management system does not discriminate between the two types. Silencing reminders will silence ALL reminders.
Terrible oversight on the part of the designers.

Thanks, Warlock. They're experiencing the same problem or a variant thereof, the variant being that they were relying on the default reminder lead-time of 18 hours, hence the reminder going off at 6am the morning prior to an all-day event.
The solution proposed in there is very heavy handed, and would require the redefinition of every all-day event in my calendar to an appointment-based event. Not exactly elegent, but I guess some are willing to do this.
Funny, my HTC/Cingular 3125 on WinMo 5 didn't have this problem... but hey, you can't stop progress, right? Even if it's in the wrong direction, evidently.
This is BS.

SMS-like or SMS replacement software options

My wife and I both now have WM phones (mine is a Tilt 2, hers a Pure) and we don't want to spend money on text messages to each other, since each text message would count twice... once for her receiving and once for me sending. (on a pay per use plan it would be $0.40 each!).
I was looking for other options. Push email is o.k. but often times there can be a minute or more delay, and my early tests of push gmail are not producing any confidence that it would push reliably.
So then I was thinking IM. It looks like IM programs would be battery hogs, and have to stay running in the background, and could easily be accidentally closed. Also, when the phone goes to sleep it seems like they then switch you to "offline".
So am I missing something? What are my sms like, non sms options?
Also does anyone have any small programs that would set up a auto-soft reset on a repeating schedule, it would be great if I could start the morning with a fresh phone. Thanks.

Yes, any non-sms messaging app for your phone would obviously use data (3G or EDGE connection) to communicate, and would need to be left on all the time to be able to receive incoming messages and notify you in real-time...so battery drain would be in direct proportion to that.
The best solution I've ever seen for that is Palringo, a free IM-integrator app that can connect you through most of the common IM networks (yahoo, AIM, Google talk, etc), or just direct through it's own (if I remember correctly)...meaning that as long as you and she both have the palringo client installed, you don't necessarily have to use any of those services to be able to IM each other. It's also free, and I seem to recall that it can be set (but isn't by default) to stay connected even when the phone goes to sleep, but don't quote me on that part.
It would be great if one of these programs had a "listening" service that would run in the background and then notify you of the "call" similar to an email.
I have seen a few online, (my research has just begun) that indicates "push notifications". Sound interesting, the data connection would remain active all the time that does not bother me.
I seem to have lost the setting to switch the "x" button from close to minimize. That would solve the issue with accidental closing the program. It would have to be managed via the task manager.. no biggy.. and then if I can find a soft reset scheduler it would keep the open programs from overwhelming the phone.

it's the other way around. default for winmo is minimize, there is
an htc bundled app called taskman. it's in settings - task manager which is making apps close when you click X
plenty of other apps can change that too

[Q] Find Phone via WiFi? (e.g. turn Ringer on, Vibrate)

I'm trying to find an app which runs a server or something on the phone and is able to turn on the ringer.
I keep loosing my phone in my house and it takes me ages to find it again. Even calling myself doesn't work since sometimes the phone is in silent mode without vibration.
Is there an app on the market which remotely turns on the ringer (even the phone was in silent mode) and has a simple web interface? Lets say my phone is connected to Wifi or 3G, I type in the IP Adress of my phone in an internet explorer and click on "locate" or something
Thanks
Tasker can handle something like that. It's an amazing program, so worth the $5 (or $6 from the market), but you can download a 7 day trial from the website:
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
You should be able to set up a task to turn on the ringer (or to play a song or tone or whatever) when a particular text string is sent to the phone. Or, presuming you have a landline, you can turn the ringer on when you call just from that line. Lots of ways to do it.
Have a look on the market for
Wheres my droid
A simple text can set off the ringer, enable gps and txt you location etc...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
tasker sounds interesting, does it need root?
Wheres my Droid is exactly what I'm looking for, but it would be great if I could activate it by mail and not by phone only (cant send mails to a phone number in germany)
Tasker doesn't require root, I don't think there's anything it does that would require it (could be wrong, I do have root, but it's not listed as a requirement). I don't think it handles emails, though, either. But I'd say you can call it and use Tasker to handle the call from a specific number. I checked and nothing else comes to mind as a way to find it, but it's worth testing out if you think you can use Tasker for other things (I have alarms, various profile changes, app events, headphone plugins, etc) - with some work, it does replace several programs I was using. Haven't lost my phone, though
On the tasker website, it lists "Email (K9)" as a compatible event - does that mean emails through the Gmail App will work as well?
sorry to bring up an old thread, but is there an app that works stictly on WiFi only? I have an Android phone with no service and I would like a Find my phone app usable on WiFi
