looks good.
Yeah, it looks better on the video than it did on the pictures, but it's such an iPhone knock-off.
And here is the Desire HD...
Im not liking these designs at all.
Actually looks like TPro a bit.
I was expecting more from HTC. Hopefully this isn't they're flagship WP7 device

Exactly.
From the awesome sleek design of Legend to this?!
Its like going a year BACK in time.
What happened to the elegance?
If their flagships will look like these chubby plastic iphone wannabe toys then im moving to ASUS, looks like they are on top of things designwise.
Legend was ugly IMO, i think this device looks really good love metal piece of it. Could it be better yes but i still like the desgin, but i do believe its an early build.
I generally don't like HTC design.
No class.....
TPro 2 was the best IMO.
Well then you must ike the Schubert because it looks just like the TP2 on the front.

Oh right, forgot about that ****.
honestly i think i think looks really slick and nice. the back design is different but i like the use of different materials on it. the front resemboles the touch pro 2...which is my favorite htc phone so I'm happy with that. The screen looks small (3.7") but I thought WP7 has a minimum requirement of 4".
I wish it had a physical keyboard tho

Nope. Not sure what the minimum is but probably 3" or so.
Fugly!!!
I think the thing looks ugly and I for one will be waiting to see what Samsung has to offer, hopefully with a super amoled screen. I also like the look of the Dell Lightning.
I for one wont be buying this device if its the best HTC has to offer. I want something with a bigger display. More like an evo screen or what they showed on the Desire HD but this is just my Tilt 2 with WP7 buttons and no keyboard. Boring
I don't like how the Dell Lightning has its keyboard on the short side with NO TILT, I can't wait for the HTC Touch Pro 3 with WP7 (and a dual-core 1.5GHZ processor yeah right)
Looks like the lovechild of the TP2 and the Tilt2
More like an inbred bastard son.

Now I am just curious, I know the touch pro 2 is coming to sprint, but its rumored that the hero will be out for sprint later this year, possibly December. Which one should i wait for?

+ one is android and other WM, usually a big difference depending on what you like.
That will depend on what is for you need the device
TP2: Buissness oriented device with the second best physical keyboard (1st is from Universal)
Hero: Multimedia oriented device with an OS tha promises a lot in the future, by now it needs to grow up and madurate
Welcome to my world, all these damn phones coming out, Hero I like however things I dont like are the shape, imagine that in your pocket? "Are you pleased to see me or is that a HTC Hero in your pocket?" and as the person above mentioned, lack of keyboard.
White doesnt stay clean for long either.

Haha, yeah I know, keyboard is a big deal to me. It's just WM seems to disappoint me a lot. Although I have high hopes for 6.5, I'm thinking sprint is waiting for 6.5 to release to touch pro 2, it would make it all that better!
But still, functionality versus a keyboard, I don't know! haah
I know what you mean about WM, but HTC have done a great job of masking the dull and boring monolike OS with Touchflo from what I have seen and WM 6.5 looks like a vast improvement at least visually.
Personally I think you, like me, would probably get bored of Android and the touch screen keypad would drive me nuts in the end.
I tried typing on an Iphone 3GS yesterday to get a (improved) idea of what a Diamond 2 or Hero might be like and with my fingers theres no chance I would type quickly on that ever, it would be like trying to look behind you without moving your head.
TP2 is the way to go, however the Omnia Pro is coming soon too, but then the Nvidia Tegra chipset powered HTC HD sequal is comign - I cant decide either, phones are like PC graphics cards these days.

the shape is virtually the same as the G1, and I've never heard anyone complain about any discomfort when they put the G1 in their pocket. and there may not be a hardware KB, but as far as onscreen KB's go, it looks like the Hero's will be one of best so far. and I like how the screen is capacitive and thus supports multi touch.
personally, I'm getting the TP2 when it comes out on AT&T. I'm also planning on picking up an unlocked Hero (unless it finds its way to the states, specifically AT&T). just want something else to play around with
Please buy both. Both has different strength, features & abilities. Both are totally different. I hope i will get one if god willing
For me it will be the one with the biggest screen & WM on it...TP2!

Yeah but the hero has a capacitive screen right? or am I wrong about that? Im actually not sure but I would think that it does because all the other android ones by HTC ara capacitive
Edit: I checked and im pretty sure its capacitive but I just browsed through search results

The same question has been haunting me lately too. I've been waiting forever for the TP2 to come to AT&T and now I see this. If they end up having release dates close together I'm thinking I might go with the hero. The main thing that will bother me is the lack of keyboard since I'm coming from a Kaiser (Tilt).

Agreed, but there's one big difference. You can get an upgrade discount on phones once every 1.5 years, otherwise you're paying out your A$$. Graphics cards are always the same (usually relatively lower) price.

Yeah you seem like you have the same thoughts as I do. I think you're right about getting tired with the android phone. I love messing with WM and modding it. I know you can with android, but it will have its limits. The thing about touch pro 2 not being a capacitive touch screen, it bums me out and makes me ask why they won't do this with WM yet. I can say they have been improving their resistive screens, big difference from the mogul to the touch pro, so I hope they can do that again. I am definitely leaning toward the touch pro 2. Does anyone know why they won't go with the capacitive screen on WM or touch pro 2?

This is exactly why I'm shying away from the TP2 and leaning towards the Hero or the Magic. The sheer idea of there being opportunities where I might need to resort to the stylus are completely holding me back. Guess I'll have to actually play with one before I make my decision; but, since using the capacitive touchscreen (iphone/G1), I'm not sure I can go back.

The resistive screen is one of the selling points for me, especially one as finger-friendly as TP2s. Best of both worlds. I get easy navigation without having to constantly sheath and unsheath the stylus, but I can use a compact and conveniently tucked away stylus when needed. I very much doubt I'll ever need it for the basic interface, but with some apps I'll want it. My Palm TX has been my primary Chinese-English dictionary for some time (before it, my Palm T|T and m500 served the same purpose), and the same software is available for WinMo. I'd just as soon use a stylus for character recognition. For that matter, I'd just as soon use a stylus for handwritten memos. I imagine capacitative screen users get by on both fronts just fine, but for me, I'm glad there's a good resistive screen still available.

So far with my TP2, I have not used the stylus at all and I am a pretty heavy business user, thats emails, facebook, youtube, general browsing and posting on forums, stock, sms.
Whats more I have yet to use the actual qwerty keyboard aswell, I find the touch one good enough everytime unless I'm typing a huge email or document.
My advice is go and actually look at the Diamond 2 and TP2 in the flesh, it is totally different to looking at it on the internet, it really is a quality product.

sorry to burst your bubble, sir, but the TP2 doesn't support multi touch. that luxury is reserved for devices that have a capacitive display. and while the TP2 feels like it's capacitive, it isn't. the Hero, on the other hand, IS capacitive and therefore the screen supports multi touch
hi with all the leaks of the new mobiles that are to be released which one is going to be the best 1 to get thats gonna keeps me going for at least 2 years.
With WP7, the specs are all standardized. The options are pretty much personal decisions..
How much storage do you want?
Do you value a physical keyboard?
Which do you think looks the best?
How big of a screen do you want?
What models will work on your carrier (this will probably limit you the most)?
Noone can answer those questions for you. The things that would affect longevity (CPU, RAM) are all standard on WP7 so really won't differ much if at all.

go with hTC Hd3~ haha
question is when is the hd3 gonna be released? One things for sure i dont want a small screen nothing less than 3.8 but would prefer 4 and above
I looking for more of a Touch Pro3 type device. Although I would love to see a 4"+ screen with a slide out keyboard.
I'll probably end up with a Samsung whenever I decide to switch. I don't know what it is, but I always ended up with a Samsung in my pocket for the last 4-5 years now.
I went from the Samsung i630 -> i760 -> Omnia II (i920)
Probably has to do more with Verizon being my provider than any affinity I have for Samsung.
what I'm wondering, .I'm from the netherlands, and also wantto buy it in october, but the dutch version won't be there then yet. So, can I also buy the english version here, or do I need to export it?
cheers

According to pdadb.net the HTC Mondrian/Schubert /Mozart's predecessor model is the HD2, so basically, this will be the HD3.
pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2388&c=htc_mondrian__schubert__mozart
But to answer your question, RustyGrom couldn't have said it any better, but the best thing to do right now is not to get into any contracts until at least November, I just canceled Sprint and now have and HD2 with T-Mob, contract less...

Well, as always Sprint is last to get a phone. The only positive is lately Sprint has the best looking and performing phones out (Evo and Epic). I hope this trend continues and Sprint drops a real monster this winter.

ditto - plus SD card support as well if that pans out.
From people who have had hands-on sessions and the lucky few who have received their review units already, I've been hearing Mozart and Omnia are the nicest. The general consensus seems to be that the HD7 doesn't feel quite right, too big, too shiny and WP7 somehow feels better on the smaller screens.
The Trophy seems to be winning a lot of praise too, though I think that's on the presumption that it will be quite a bit cheaper than the Mozart.
Yeah the Mozart is a very nice looking device. My only concern is no SAMOLED. I agree with the above post about WP7 looking best with an AMOLED screen. However, I'm not too sure I want a phone with Samsung's build quality. Decisions.. decisions..
The LG phones actually look good in the reviews Ive seen which is a bit of a shocker as Ive never like LG for phones that much in the past...
Well... I prefer the HD7... it just looks like THE WP7 device... it just stands out, that gorgeous 4.3 inch screen? that beautiful camera(2 LED!), the stand! the other devices are small and weak... the Dell one just looks ugly(I thought it looked like the BlackBerry Style)
Still, speed is no issue with any of them...

Hope so, because that'd mean there's a humminbird/SGX540 in it with a 4in Super Amoled screen, but the person who leaked the vid says it's a 3.7in screen. And like most people are saying here, it will most likely have the Snapdragon processor.

Hmmm...the US (att) Samsung Captivate has some pretty troubling issues on the reliability front. Granted it has a WM OS, however, most of the issues seem to be hardware related.
I am pretty underwhelmed by the three rumored handsets set to be announced in a few days. I'll end up purchasing one of them, simply to support the OS, but all of them look pretty ho hum. I really though that Microsoft was going to come out swinging this time around. Apparently not. The OS looks slick, though incomplete, and the hardware looks minimal instead of trend setting. Bottom line is that an WP7 handset announced next week will be eclipsed in technology by holiday sales period. That is pretty sad.

That review was really unfair... that device is the best on the market, the only way you can tell if that screen is weird or not is if you compare it, alone it looks beautiful. the surround's speakers blow and it is so thick!
The display is objectively terrible. HTC has an unhealthy addiction with reusing old stock/designs on new devices, which is probably what made it use a vanilla TFT-LCD panel on a device that is all about the display.
Omnia is the best WP7 launch device, unless some showstopping hardware defect is found.

Objectively terrible....Hmm have you actually seen a HD7 in the flesh or are you taking it from a poorly crafted review? The display is actually far better than the HD2 with richer colours, better back lighting (more even) and it's nice and bright. The design is also subtly different, far better camera, sound quality is excellent. Maybe try one for yourself before criticising, personally I only like to comment on items when I have something informed to say!

You can see the display by lookimg at an Evo. Fon't embarass yourself. The quality is terrible, ESPECIALLY compared to a Super AMOLED display. Evo looks washed out compared to Galaxy S. The same will be true for HD7 vs Omnia 7.
However, I would suicide before buying another Samsung phone.

Really, so I have the device in my hands as well as a Galaxy S and you are looking at an Evo, and I shouldn't embarrass myself Hmm! Most people who have the HD7 are more than happy with both the build quality and the screen. As I stated the display is better than the HD2 (Evo) so you are incorrect! and yes I have actually had a HD2 as well! The HD7 is using a newer screen.
Since I have upgraded my Galaxy S to Froyo it seems to be running far better. Using the HD7 now though as my main phone.

Couldn't agree more, such size screens are just stupid, you are getting in to realms of tab territory then, really who needs a screen of nearly 5 inches on a phone?
Samsung's really do feel cheap, having played with the majority of their releases, they all feel like a lump of plastic, HTC on the other hand feel solid and well built.
And to top it all I hate Samsung's interface, sense IMO is the king of android UI.
I don't think I could bring myself to move away from the look Ive become used to.
If HTC bought out a phone the same size and look as the desire, with the latest android, dual core, more internal memory possibly 32gb or even just a couple but with 2 micro sd slots then I'm sure it would be a best seller again.
HTC if you are reading, please make it happen They could call it Ultimate Desire
Yeah, but with Google it will be vanilla UI

Yeah, it won't be using TouchWiz if it is a Nexus device. And this is the XDA Developers forum - if you don't like the stock rom, change it!
I really prefer the overall look and feel of my Desire, but my wife and son each have SGS2's and I must admit that I'm jealous of the extra screen size and how quickly apps load.
hehe i agree with some of the above
samsung will probably make it feel cheap and iphone-esque - as thats what they do
I like 3.7" - but the sensation might be at a push ok - 4.65" seems massive! I'll never reach my thumb across the screen holding it one handed...
I also like physical buttons - also thought the trackpad on my desire was pointless until t2w/t2u came into my life!
only thing good would be that it is pure android and no touchwiz
Someone asked me to help set up their galaxy ace the other day. I hated no track ball
It also seemed to lack a home button which was really annoying

Its tricky. The SGS2 is much better spec'd, especially in the screen. But if I get mugged I want a phone that will dent the offenders skull, not shatter to pieces on his face.

Concur with all of this.
My mate got a Sensation last week and, while it is a gorgeous looking piece of hardware, very hard to negotiate with one hand.
And tp2w/u is just the bees knees! When I unlock my phone using track pad, my friends are blown away with the idea...we are talking iP3/4 owners, HD7, Sensation and SGS in my group. Worst thing HTC did was lose the tactile buttons.

And tp2w/u is just the bees knees! When I unlock my phone using track pad, my friends are blown away with the idea...we are talking iP3/4 owners, HD7, Sensation and SGS in my group. Worst thing HTC did was lose the tactile buttons.

everyone is doing it though - binning off all the physical buttons... I guess it 'looks cooler' or something
i also agree - keep the desire - wait for the nexus prime to calm down - then samsung and htc will release a new phone based on ICS probably with slightly better specs than the Prime soon (I say april next year)
My contract wont finish till April next year , so all the tine phoens coming out now will be affordable ( free on contract or cheaper to buy )
I am looking at the Gnote... I like the screen and teh mini tablet "esq"
my desire is fab .. but I have used the sensation and the the g2 .. but there is something missing..
for now , my Desire wins!
Yup. Ending May. May go Sim free for a while....I'm on O2 though and I either keep paying my contract + handset or go down to 500MB internet (which is NOT enough) or go SIM free and risk not being able to afford a handset
720p 4.65" screen

depends from how much useless space there is around the screen
it can be 4.65 and be with the same dimension as our desire for example, because it should also not have physical buttons
anyway is not really so big.. 4.65-3.7= 0.95 inches = 2.4 centimeters much bigger, in diagonal, than our desire..but our desire have some useless space around the screen
lets just wait when it comes out to see how it is
Is Sensation exactly the same size as Desire (external size)?
I am asking, because I have a bike mount for Desire that I use everyday when cycling to work, and wonder if Sensation would fit into it too?

Hang onto your Desire, imo. They are becoming outdated, but with custom ROMs et al, can be kept pretty well abreast with the latest releases. I am gonna hang out til Q2 next year and see what is around then. jm2c

The main reason for most moving away from physical button off the main screen is concern of getting sued by apple for copyright .
Planning a funeral ?
There's an app for that .
To soon ?
