Pointless video.
Screen is too big for me. 3.7 is perferct
No Physical buttons. I like physical buttons. Gives me more confidence in case of failure
Made by Samsung. Will feel cheap?

Couldn't agree more, such size screens are just stupid, you are getting in to realms of tab territory then, really who needs a screen of nearly 5 inches on a phone?
Samsung's really do feel cheap, having played with the majority of their releases, they all feel like a lump of plastic, HTC on the other hand feel solid and well built.
And to top it all I hate Samsung's interface, sense IMO is the king of android UI.
I don't think I could bring myself to move away from the look Ive become used to.
If HTC bought out a phone the same size and look as the desire, with the latest android, dual core, more internal memory possibly 32gb or even just a couple but with 2 micro sd slots then I'm sure it would be a best seller again.
HTC if you are reading, please make it happen They could call it Ultimate Desire

Yeah, but with Google it will be vanilla UI
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Yeah, it won't be using TouchWiz if it is a Nexus device. And this is the XDA Developers forum - if you don't like the stock rom, change it!
I really prefer the overall look and feel of my Desire, but my wife and son each have SGS2's and I must admit that I'm jealous of the extra screen size and how quickly apps load.

hehe i agree with some of the above
samsung will probably make it feel cheap and iphone-esque - as thats what they do
I like 3.7" - but the sensation might be at a push ok - 4.65" seems massive! I'll never reach my thumb across the screen holding it one handed...
I also like physical buttons - also thought the trackpad on my desire was pointless until t2w/t2u came into my life!
only thing good would be that it is pure android and no touchwiz

Someone asked me to help set up their galaxy ace the other day. I hated no track ball
It also seemed to lack a home button which was really annoying

My contract is due to for a renewal and I am actually torn between the Sensation and Galaxy SII, and I hate the plasticness and lightness of Samsung, although Super AMOLED seems very tempting.
Bearing in mind that I have not held the Sensation in my hands yet.
What to go for, or wait for the Nexus Prime?

Its tricky. The SGS2 is much better spec'd, especially in the screen. But if I get mugged I want a phone that will dent the offenders skull, not shatter to pieces on his face.
I cant say I am particularly swayed by either of these releases tbh. When my contract comes up I just dont know what to do.

Hang onto your Desire, imo. They are becoming outdated, but with custom ROMs et al, can be kept pretty well abreast with the latest releases. I am gonna hang out til Q2 next year and see what is around then. jm2c

Concur with all of this.
My mate got a Sensation last week and, while it is a gorgeous looking piece of hardware, very hard to negotiate with one hand.
And tp2w/u is just the bees knees! When I unlock my phone using track pad, my friends are blown away with the idea...we are talking iP3/4 owners, HD7, Sensation and SGS in my group. Worst thing HTC did was lose the tactile buttons.

everyone is doing it though - binning off all the physical buttons... I guess it 'looks cooler' or something
i also agree - keep the desire - wait for the nexus prime to calm down - then samsung and htc will release a new phone based on ICS probably with slightly better specs than the Prime soon (I say april next year)

My contract wont finish till April next year , so all the tine phoens coming out now will be affordable ( free on contract or cheaper to buy )
I am looking at the Gnote... I like the screen and teh mini tablet "esq"
my desire is fab .. but I have used the sensation and the the g2 .. but there is something missing..
for now , my Desire wins!

Yup. Ending May. May go Sim free for a while....I'm on O2 though and I either keep paying my contract + handset or go down to 500MB internet (which is NOT enough) or go SIM free and risk not being able to afford a handset

depends from how much useless space there is around the screen
it can be 4.65 and be with the same dimension as our desire for example, because it should also not have physical buttons
anyway is not really so big.. 4.65-3.7= 0.95 inches = 2.4 centimeters much bigger, in diagonal, than our desire..but our desire have some useless space around the screen
lets just wait when it comes out to see how it is

Is Sensation exactly the same size as Desire (external size)?
I am asking, because I have a bike mount for Desire that I use everyday when cycling to work, and wonder if Sensation would fit into it too?

The main reason for most moving away from physical button off the main screen is concern of getting sued by apple for copyright .
Planning a funeral ?
There's an app for that .

From rooted Desire to Sensation - worth it?

I've got rooted Desire loaded with RCMix S with Sense 3.0 which runs incredibly smooth. Unfortunately I managed to tear the volume button module from the main flex cable. A new one would come at ~70$, which makes me unsure as I've already spent money replacing the lcd and usb port.
I'm therefore considering Sensation, but wondering whether it'll be very different from my Desire which already runs Sense 3.0 (partly). Is it worth the upgrade?

its 5mm wider and 5mm taller.
I love my desire to bits but my carrier will give me a sensation for free when its upgrade time...
dual core and full fat gingerbread...
WOuldn't know whether to keep my old desire as a backup or sell it. Whats the going rate for rooted Desire with stockBravo rom with a few bumps and scratches (not on the screen)?
Sensation's screen sux big time compared to the amoled the desire has. Also there is no custom rom support to date coz of the locked bootloader, and the phone itself is pawned badly hardware wise by any other dual out there: the ui lags in a horrid way and the gpu is not half as good as the one of a SGS (and i don't mean SGS II, i don't wanna be THAT unfair). I picked up one at a shop the other day and i was about to puke. Big NO NO if you ask me. Go for a SGS II if you can, or just wait for the new Nexus.
I disagree, I had hands on with a sensation before its release at the gadget show from a HTC rep who had a pre release hidden in his pocket. I loved it, even as a pre release it was super quick and felt like the perfect size. The video and camera capture was great and I immediately felt downgraded when using my desire a few moments later.
The sgs looks too much like the iPhone as well as the UI and there is no other phone on the market in my opinion that looks as good as the sensation or offers the UI anything close to sense.
Each to their own I suppose.
Your best bet is to get down to a phone store and have a play also read some accurate reviews and make up your own mind as my tastes may be different than yours.

Yesterday I was in a shop and I tried this Sensation. I like the feel of it in my hand. But I still like the Desire as it does now fit my daily need. .
I found you this:
www . parts4repair . com /products/HTC-Desire-A8181%7B47%7DA8180-Motherboard-Flex-Cable.html
(remove the spaces - sorry I'm new and cannot post URLs)
Including postage, it would cost you $52.63 ...
I think it's a shame throwing a Desire away - at least if you repair it you can sell it for much more than that (or keep it as a backup phone/toy)
Here's a slightly cheaper one:

Thanks for the link!
Yeah, I would've never upgraded if it worked properly, as it fitted my needs more than adequately. Not sure if I'm fixing it, but I'm keeping it as a backup nevertheless.
It all depends on if you got the money for it, imo. There's not a huge reason to upgrade as you're running pretty much similar to what the Sensation will come with as stock (minus the whole "root")... but of course it'll be a bit more snappier with the updated specs and all, but is it worth the money?
It'd also help if you could sell your current Desire for a bit to help offset the expense a bit..
Yes, that is exactly what I'm thinking. I tried it out today, but it didn't seem too much of an upgrade. Of course, it's faster but that's not what I solely want to pay for.
I also happened to try s2, and I must say that the screen was razor sharp! Very crisp. And it felt smoother too. So this one is a S2 for me, if I don't like I'll just trade it in with a sensation.

I've done exactly this. I won a Sensation and the screen is awesome. Sense 3.0 is SO much better on it than on the RCMix ROM (sorry Rob!)
Best thing I've done, bar it being a branded handset. But it was free so meh!!
i like the sensation quite a bit too, but it bugs me that the bootloader is locked.
It's really not a big deal that it's locked. I only rooted for 2 reasons:
1. To remove crap I didn't want
2. More space
Now the Sensation has more space I can don't need to root. Yes, I'd like to remove the apps I don't want but I can live with it. It's REALLY not an issue and people are making it out that HTC has raped a baby or something!!

[Q] New phone or continue with my Desire?

I love my HTC Desire more than any phone I have ever had. I baught it the day it came out, and I have not had any trouble with it ever since. I have used CM since 6.x version and I love the product. It has kept me up to date without having to upgrade my phone.
Now im testing out some of the ISC versions that works on my phone, still I feel that the hardware is now not enough for me, (including cam- quality, and especially internal memory and processor speed).
So I wonder what phone should I consider if I decide to buy a new phone? Or should I wait for something extraordinary to come on the market?
Wait for HTC Edge or Ville. I also came to conclusion that I want better GPU and better camera. For 2-year-old phone Desire is still unbelievable competitive.

Those two phones looks amazing, especially the Edge with the quad-core. Hope the camera could be a reasonably replacement for a digital camera. I havent seen many phones that can match the flash that regular digital cameras have.
I am more devoted to stay with HTC after I saw they have the HTCdev.com .
Was considering to look into some of the samsung- phones, but I feel its a bit more plastic than HTC.
I agree with mikbe on this one. My Desire is suprisingly competitive after almost two years. If I should buy a phone today, it would probably be the SII. But since my Desire is still alive and kicking, I'm gonna wait for the "next big thing", whatever (or whoever) that might be. I love my HTC, but I'm not married to them Maybe the SIII...?

Just be a few weeks until the next set of HTC phones will be released at MWC. I would wait until after then - something might grab you, or if not, the current phones should come down in price. This is the worst time to buy just now!

after my htc desire I may switch to the htc sensation
though...i also like the size and look of it very much
having a tablet some of the 'new-power-devices' features are not required
i may even go back to a smaller phone next time...so having more a 'telephone' than a small supercomputer
I was htc fan for many years now..but also considering a samsung as my next android phone
I think I will wait for the next great HTC phone. Now that I have Sandvolds ICS I can float a bit longer. And now that I have an extra partition I can install lots of stuff. The ICS is a bit buggy, bit hopefully it will become complete. Sandvold is doing a great job. Recommend it for everyone !

[Q] G2 Favorite Phone Ever

Is it your Fav phone?
mine by far
Tell us why its your favorite or why its not
I don't mean any offense by this, but I think this Thread does not really belong in the Q&A section.
While it is a question if all of us think, whether this is the most awesome phone since the invention of cans and a string, it is not one that can be definitively answered.
So this would belong in the general section. This section - as I understand it - is for folks who have trouble with their device and seek advice or help.
actually it was meant for "Off-Topic" i do not know how it ended here =0
Not my FAVOURITE phone ever, simply because I waited so long for it and then it came with so many issues (for me). Dodgy loose z-hinge which causes the two halves of the phone not to stay tight shut (mine is still buffered with layers of electrical tape in between to stop the annoying tapping when one half hits the other when typing on the screen), poor screen in sunlight, really poor speaker, 4 row keyboard instead of 5. These are the things that made me unhappy when I got it, but with little else to choose from (Android qwerty-wise) I had little option but to get used to it.
I think my favourite phone ever has to be my G1, simply because it was on a completely different level to what I had been using previously (Nokia smartphones like the N85 and N73). Yeah, sure it didn't really have the hardware needed (especially towards the end of it's life) but I LOVED that phone like a child :-D
The G2/DZ is a pretty decent phone, but was not groundbreaking in any way, shape or form. The development scene for it is just as good as I remember the G1's being, which is a plus - and ultimately that, and the fact there are still no better qwertys in the UK, is the only reason I'm still using this thing.
I love it because I got in love with it in March, and wanted to get it with a budget of just 250€ euros... No used ones weren't fake, so I got a Nexus One, great phone, and I decided to keep it thinking it was better of my beloved DZ, than in August Desire Z was 240€ new and sold my nexus one to get it. Now I love it, every single thing but the back cover which is already damaged. I like HTC assistance: they sent me a courier (is it right?) beacause I lived 20km far from the collection point and then in one working week I had it back repaired... (now on the other side they're asking me to go to the colelction point to get a new usb cable, which is 10€ and I should take 10 euros of train to get there..).
But as for the phone itself it just lacks a better GPU and a bit more of battery... Oh yes, it should be at least two metres thicker and five tons lighter
but I love it!

great phones =)
Its actually the only phone I loved that hasnt broken on me yet had it for almost a full year now and it still runs great. Dropped it plenty of times on the ground and it only has a few scratches & dents. Z-hinges aren't really bothersome and really isnt that loose, it makes the phone fun to flip and play around with actually! I really cant see a new phone w/o a qwerty board. Lets hope we get to see at least some this year.
I honestly dont know if there is another phone out there for me to update to! So I see myself with the g2 for a looooong time! And I would have never updated to it if it wasnt for the H+ speeds!
G1 in honesty has the best hand placement/keyboard feel!
Another plus was it was Black too!!
Have had it for more than a year and was my first smart phone. For me the only other device that competes is mytouch 4g slide simply because I can't live without keyboard but imo this has a far better look and feel than the 4g

It's my favorite phone, but it only became so after rooting it. IMO Sense is a bulky solution for dummy proofing a phone. When I rooted and got rid of the bloat I started loving it more and more.
I had a Desire before I went to the G2. I had to find out the expensive way that a touchscreen only phone just doesn't work for me
I had the g1 before this, and a few sidekicks before that. I've been hooked on keyboard phones since around 2006. Being a t-mobile customer, I am bound to what they provide so physical keyboards have become somewhat of a necessary thing for me when shopping for a phone. The g2 came as quite a surprise really. It's nearly 2 years old now and with a little tweaking, it's still preforming as well as a lot of todays (stock) high end devices. Bravo htc.
I'm looking forward to future physical keyboard devices.
This phone sure is a great product.
Nice collection of roms to choose from, and gotta love the keyboard.
First phone with physical QWERTY to me, and I won't buy a phone without it again.
This does need some tweaking (custom rom & overclocking) to be fast enough for daily use - but it's very easy thing to do.
This is my second Android-phone.

Convince me why i shouldnt have buyers remorse! :/

Hey guys, i just order a pair of GNs for myself and so, though im now having buyers remorse.
I love the look of the nexus, though i just feel as i mad a bad decision and should of gone with the Note, S2, htc one S, or even the X.

Oh well, in that case, no.
My wife loves hers.
That said there is always remorse in buying a 5 month old device. It is a dinosaur in tech terms; even if the software is cutting edge.
I would say take it back and get the phone you want.
The GN is a great device. The developer support is great if you wish to try all kinds of amazing ROMS. But even if you don't, the GN is a great stock. I love not having to hack my device to remove all the bloat. Just stock ICS. But as someone else said, its about 5 months old. Something to remember. Devices will always come out. But I am not sure if I would buy it today. Not with the HTC One X out (import). And the Galaxy S 3 is more than likely going to be a device worth upgrading for. In short, its up to you.

I for one came from the MyTouch 4G slide, and couldn't he happier.
The developer support on that phone is pretty much dead, and I actually got used to have no physical keyboard really fast.
This phone is fast, gorgeous, and its so relieving not having to worry about crap like Sense, or Blur from my previous phone the Motorola Cliq.
Sense 4.0 looks nice, but vanilla ICS is so much more beautiful without the extra bloat.
As for the hardware, I want a phone that can do everything a phone should, with a bit of extra fun, and this does just that.
Running games at ~50FPS is great, I don't see why I need a quad core phone to have them run at ~60FPS, at the risk of more battery consumption for little significant gain. There is no future proofing since a year down the line you will switch again; and by that time, your phone will still be just as powerful.
Hell, the G1 is still a great phone if you use it as one.

Spec wise, the HTC One X kinda beats the Nexus but isn't as fast in real use because of Sense 4.0. The only phone to beat the Nexus will be the Galaxy S3, but that usually will become the basis for the next Nexus anyway, so you just have to choose which cycle to get on, the Nexus Cycle or the Galaxy S Cycle. Stock Google and latest Firmware make the Nexus Cycle a no-brainer. I just hope you got a deal on the Nexus(s) because they are dirt cheap now (~$450)
I enjoy AOSP and the ease of modding with this device. Sure there might be other devices coming out w/ newer tech, but I don't think I can stand skins anymore. Even de-sensed and de-blurred don't cut it anymore.
I always get buyers remorse so can't really help you there. All I can say is that I wish i'd waited for SGS3 because if it's anything like the SGS2, which blows the nexus out of the water in every way but the screen, then I will be having a very very bad case of buyers remorse on 3rd May lol.
As for helping with your buyers remorse, if you like the look and feel of the phone, and can live with some minor flaws like the odd bit of lag, you will be ok with this phone.

$429 NIB + 2 years warranty shipped(each), so it was a pretty good deal.
I like what you're saying and i think that will be my plan of attack and just upgrade every nexus release, even if i had waited for the GS3 i wouldn't of been able to pick 2 of them up, I'm guessing they are going to be $800-$900.
Well thanks guys i feel a little better, im using a desire Z at the moment so it should be a big leap.

I don't think you'll have remorse. You're getting a great package, great price and updating to 4.0.4 will be awesome. And if you're a tinkerer it can only get better. Just think, a lot of us paid over $700 and don't regret it at all, even with the small problems we've had. And if you're already on xda, free tech support. Notice I said tech support and not noob support.
bow chicka wow wow.

+1. I've had the Desire and Desire HD before getting the GN and I must say every phone I've come across with Sense on it has been so poorly coded that it's had FPS issues just swiping from homescreen to homescreen.
The HTC One without Sense will best the GN hands down when stripped of Sense but I can't help but think (despite not having used one) that it will still struggle to run at a fluid ~59fps with Sense on it.
The Galaxy Nexus like all Nexus phones is a reference phone, Android as Google intended without all the extra manufacturers add to it (ie Sense, Touchwiz, Motoblur, etc.) which some people may actually like. If you like Sense then a HTC One might be the way to go for you.
My biggest thing with Android phones is developer support. I personally am coming from a HTC Thunderbolt, which at the time was great, a ton of developers, ROMS, MODS....life was nice. Then, the Nexus came out, and within a month about 75% of the developers had jumped ship, updates were slow, and it just wasn't fun anymore.
So that said here is my list of things I look for when buying a new phone
1. Good Developer Support (Pretty much guaranteed for Nexus phones)
2. Style, Build, and Accessories (I would say HTC usually takes this, but Sammy is catching up)
3. Newness of Technology (You don't want a phone that is still using 2 year old tech. However, the newest tech is not the best bet either, since this creates issues with developers being able to take advantage of the latest and greatest in their ROMS. The thunderbolt was a perfect example, it was the first with 4G LTE, which was a nightmare for developers to get the ROMS working right. Till this day CM7 is still not an official build on the Thunderbolt.
4. Resale Value - Lets be honest you do not have an Apple Device which gets good resale prices due to its limited lineup. However, Nexus phones often keep better resale then their counterparts just due to the fact it is a Nexus phone. I usually trade up every year, sell the old one with its accessories for about 300 and use it to buy the next one. This allows you to get the latest and greatest every year, for about the same price of an upgrade or cheaper.
I'd buy the GN in a heartbeat at prices now... ~$440 unlocked.
This device feels way more solid than the Galaxy S2 that my SO has.

Why we love the HTC One X!

As I read through the daily posts in the One X forum I'm increasingly finding more and more people needlessly moaning about all aspects off the One X and about HTC and that's fine I guess, people have issues and want to get that out in the open and get some feedback
but I think with all this negative feedback we who love our One X and HTC need to voice that and balance out the pros and cons debate!....
So this thread is for you to tell the rest of the world why you love and enjoy your One X & HTC so much!
Please don't turn this into a thread full of silly and pointless arguments
well we had threads like this
and i'm already the emabassador for the One X so i don't need to repeat myself lol
perhaps you should start
I remember the first time I saw the HTC Desire HD and I just couldn’t believe what a fantastic phone it was! everything about it was beautiful! ...and then came the One X and I new I just had to have one!!
What a phone! HTC made me feel that magic feeling all over again! It looks absolutely fantastic! the shape, the screen size, the colours, sense 4 and not forgetting it’s the worlds first HTC quad core phone! wtf QUAD CORE!?!! I went for the white version, I’ve never had a white phone before but white was created for the One X! there simply perfect together! ...these are just some of the things I like about the One X but I what do you like about it!?

this is lame..
with samsung dominating the market, their phones becoming easier and easier to root and custom rommed..
last time it used to be odin, now there's cwm touch for samsung phones and also hardware hacks that are influenced by software. even modems on samsung phones are flashable.
im giving htc one last chance, unveil a godly tegra 4 phone with superb camera (better or on par with samsung) and also NO wifi pin problems or anything similar. htc better keep their game up, or im going to jump ship too.
software problems are fine because they can be fixed. but hardware as terrible as the wifi pins problem on the hox? no.
if that happens again, i will definitely jump ship
edit : 1 week after the hox came out, the RRP for it was RM 2099. 2 weeks later, it's RM 1899. today, a 1 week old set costs a thriffling rm 1399 and a new set costs another thriffling rm 1649. the s3 stood strong at rm 1999 today and the RRP was 2199

Did you even read the topic of this thread? it's for people you like/love/enjoy there One X
One word: screen. Compared with the ridiculous pentile AMOLED s#it, the HOX's screen looks gorgeous. Sure if you have never seen it, you might think that a 4.7" 720p screen will not suffer from the pentile matrix, but when you look at them side by side, the difference is huge. And when you add the more accurate colors, the CPU which has games optimized for it, the comming of the cheap Tegra3 console which will drive more developers to optimize their games for it, the overall look and feel of the phone (I hate shiny plastic stuff) and you get a device which is truly a marvelous piece of technology.

I'm with you there!, I just love the way I can put my One X down anywhere and look at it from almost any angle and still read what's on the screen! and the colours remain the same too!

All three issues already fixed in latest batches and software
Ill donate to have you away to the sgs3
+1
I like HTC because they are already working on jelly bean, that is the main factor of owning awesome smartphone - the updates, samsung lost this battle hard when they couldn't or didn't want to update galaxy s anymore - which is very nice powerful phone even today, probably wouldn't buy One X if they went the other way.
+2
I have not seen One X screen before i bought it, now i cant imagine more perfect screen quality, nothing can beat that.
+3
Just android and google experience, I wouldn't even look at One X if it had like windows phone rubbish, there are differences in companies strategy, Google gives me youtube, android system, mail account, search and maps FOR FREE, Microsoft is completely opposite, its not user friendly - just watch how bad METRO is for desktop and how many ppl complain - they are not listening.

Latest batches ? Am I suppose to look for serial numbers or HTC recall the messed up batches and fix them ? cause its a shame to have exchange 4 hoxes and none of them worth the money I paid for ,none of them feel like a quadcore ,all of them have had faults, repair centers a mess .......
I have had other android phones. Even though I love android over iOS, I never had a phone feel more sophisticated in hand over the iPhone. The HOX is the best phone I've ever had. It feels better in my hand over the iphone for sure! (without a case obviously)
My HOX is better than the IPhone because of the big beautiful screen! Just love playing movies, games and surfing the internet on it!
And of cause the mighty Tegra 3
To the people who are complaining: why do you keep *****ing over your stupid problems in a thread where the OP so clearly states that it is a positive thread ment for encouragement. Take your selfpity to one of the many threads that is meant for whining.

Obviously you're unhappy. Either take it up with HTC or move on. Either way I see little reason for you to keep behaving like a brat here.
I just don't get why people that are unhappy with a device and know they will never be happy with it, insist on punishing themselves instead of growing a pair and growing up.
My HTC One X rocks. I don't twist it like a frisbee so I haven't found this magical 'twisting' that some folks have whined about.
The screen is awesome. No yellow tint or dots. If I had found either I would not have bought it (Or for the slow people SEND IT BACK.)
Very snappy. I haven't rooted or flashed it, but it sounds like half the complainers may have had a bad flash or flashed the wrong version and are now pooping fireworks because they effed up their phone.
