Hey everyone, I searched this question and could not find an exact answer. So if anyone of you would be kind and give me some insight on this, I would be forever grateful. Well recently my mytouch slide rooted screen decided to just..not work anymore? At first it would turn black (as if I pressed the top left key/lock) I would leave it alone for a minute, it would come back. Fine, no problem..well it did it again today and this time stayed off the whole day. Funny thing is you can tell the phone is working. Notification lights are working, the (G) button works as I can hear the beep waiting for voice command..etc.
Being that my phone was rooted, and I really had no way to restore the phone to factory default, the best I could do was flash ESPRIMG.zip and pressing vol up to start the updating process. Updating process worked, I can hear the tmobile jingle at boot instead of "Droid" boot sound that I had from the SLIDE MR1.v4 rom I had installed. (I can still see the device in ADB, don't know if thats a good thing.)
I called tmobile, went through the troubleshooting steps and they are sending a replacement out. I was advised it should be here within 7days (as I wasn't going to pay 19.99 for a 3 day service they offer). Will the phone I'm returning be fine? Will they know I had root and not issue me a replacement for free, but make me pay for one? Am I worried about nothing? Lol, any input would help!
edit1: Phone has never gotten wet, never dropped it..NEVER ABUSED period!
Thanks,
Niftymu
Sinced you flashed the stock ESPRIMG, and it seems to have worked (since you got the jingle back), it should be back to fresh unused condition.
You shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Thank you Falken98! Lets just hope this replacement doesn't come with the new recovery thats being found on the latest OTA, it would make rooting..a pain in the butt, and I must have roootttt! If it does tho, oh well, there will be a way.
Just hope your replacement phone works... my 3rd slide should be here this week.

I am having a new slide sent to me because the camera doesn't focus right anymore..... I tried a bunch of different roms to see if that fixed it but it appears to be a hardware issue.... anyone else have the same blurry cam problem? I see alot of people are getting it on forums

Received my device today also. No light leaks, and came with .04s radio. Rooted it as soon as I got home so far so good.

My slide is being replaced (when I slide it open and closed, the screen goes nuts and gets disoriented repositioning the display... It's the cable) and does anyone know if replacements from tmobile are coming with the ota or should I be good to root the replacement when it comes?
I'm hoping it's one with the different keyboard lettering and pre ota.
I'm getting ny replaced too although I don't know I'd it comes with the ota, and my screen blacks out, it randomly reboots, etc

I just recieved my warranty replacement today, that I had ordered exactly 7 days ago. This one has the updated qwerty keypad with the smaller numbers. Now when I check in settings, the firmware that it states it has installed is '2.1 update-1'. So I believe this device doesn't have the updated firmware. I'm going to try and root it when I get home from work today.
The software number never changed on the OTA update
you have to look at the radio
and kernal to check if its the newly OTA

Yeah, I looked at the radio and I had 04S at the end, so I believe it didn't have the new OTA already preinstalled..and I sucessfully rooted my device.
Can you take a picture of the new slide models keyboard?

I had to call T-Mobile to get my phone replaced last night and they told me all the phones now are coming out with the new ota already installed. Are we going to be able to root the phones with the same root.zip file or is there going to be a new one? Not sure if the person actually knew or was guessing. It was hard enough to understand her as it was. I'll post when I get mine after I check the radio...
well if they have the OTA we're currently screwed.
I may just keep my broken one if I can't root the replacement.

If you install a froyo rom you will be able to unroot your phone and get the froyo ota when it comes out: or... you will be able to replace it with the the test keys signed version a few days after the froyo ota drops.
There is no way to know in advance if the froyo ota will break root. It can be assumed that tmo will attempt to plug all the holes that devs find, but whether or not they will be successful or open new holes in the process is unknowable.
hope that helps

I'm into about week 2 of my first EVO and I love the phone. Yesterday, however, I started to have strange screen issues. I'll try my best to explain:
In some browser pages, forums, and even my home screens the screen will act as though I am rapidly moving it up and down. It is impossible to stop it because it freezes up all the buttons. I figured I had a bad app so I went drastic and hard rebooted my phone. (Which is stock 2.2) Initially it seemed better but it started happening again, even while writing this post...I did not install any apps so I can only guess my screen is bad?

I'm having similar problems - see my post about screen gremlins. I'll be watching this to see if anyone has any ideas.
Ok, it happened again for about 2 minutes this time. I studied what it was doing and it seems it is trying to zoom in then out very rapidly. Occasionally jumping to different spots on the screen. Any help?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G using XDA App
Some of the older Evos had trouble with their screens not being properly grounded, could be that's what yours has. You may want to search for some of the older threads on it to see if that's what it is.
Hmm, I'll look into it. Thanks! Any other ideas or suggestions are welcome as well.

Well, that isn't the issue. Read some posts, watched a few videos detailing said issue, tried the tests and downloaded the Multitouch Visualization App just to be 100% positive. Passed all tests.
I have Hardware Revision 0003. Everything else runs flawlessly with the exception of this weird screen issue. Now it seems like it is trying to push "buttons" on its own, pull down the shade, etc.
Kind of frustrated now. It's just so random.

i contacted htc a few weeks ago because of this issue. sprint changed their tep policies after i sat waiting for them on the phone for an hour, i found out, if you drop it just one time, it causess the lcd and digitizer to act as if the ribbon cable is lose.....only absolute fix is to have it repaired or exchanged.
so i bought a second hand slide for my wife maybe a month ago. it was supposedly brand new (i believe it was). i've rooted it and have cyan's latest running on it. today, however, several of the buttons quit working. home is okay and so is the genius button. but the menu, back, and touchpad have all stopped responding. is this something that's occuring with this phone with frequency? i haven't called tmobile yet as i'm currently restoring her app's from a fresh wipe but i'd thought i'd see if this has happened to anyone else.

No, never happened to me, did you say you already tried doing a full wipe/reflash? If that didn't work try flashing a different ROM like cr_mod or 3rd sense and see if the buttons work in those. Could be a corrupted ROM, redownload and reflash it. If you haven't already, update to 6.1.1.

Haha, same here. I received a used g1 from a friend, I was its fifth owner I think, it had no issues, I ended up accidentally breaking it because I fell asleep on a recliner chair and it fell out of my pocket into the recliner mechanism and got its chin crushed. Poor thing. I took it apart and wiggled the bent connector a little bit, and it actually worked for a few more months, although fragile. Now it won't turn on anymore though, totally done. It lived a long life though.
Now I'm using the same friend's old slide, which he spilled a full glass of lemonade on. It didn't work for a week, then randomly started booting, so he gave it to me since he had already gotten a vibrant. The only thing that doesn't work on it is the camera, which I couldn't care less about.
HTC phones have been great for me, you must be treating your phones like they are $40 dumbphones made by nokia.
lol! no, that would be my son who treats his g1 like a hacky sack. it's my wife who's having all the bad luck. i may try taking it apart and seeing what i can do but believe me she pretty much uses her phone as a phone and to facebook. otherwise it sits in her purse. although she has gotten into angry birds lately and i do see her getting frustrated more & more.....
You bought a second hand phone that is now failing and you're blaming the manufacturer? It sounds like to me the previous owner may not have foreclosed some previous "incident" happening to the phone.

I realize I'm arriving a little late to this conversation but Im wondering if you ever figured anything out with this? My phone did the exact same thing this last weekend and after completely tearing it apart and cleaning all the connections I could, with not fix, I finally gave up and bought a G2. If you do have any ideas it would be awesome!
Same thing happened to me, I have a thread in the general section, I'm on my fifth slide

One of the Cyanogen Mod nightlies was very unresponsive on touch and a few other things.
You can try a more stable cyanogen rom, and see if that makes a difference.
Its not that. The slide isnt just unresponsive, its not working at all. I wiped it all to start over and try a stable but now I cant get past the start up screen where you have to tap the android haha. I bought a G2 so if I fix it, it would just be to sell or as a backup. Anyone know anyone that wants to buy it?
Hi guys I just ordered another replacement Phone from t-mobile, this will be #2 for me. I also Have to call for my wifes phone because her camera stopped working on her.
I wanted to know how many times people have replaced their Mytouch Slide 3G phones, Personally 2 times in 9 months for the SAME issues...Power button sticking, touch screen not responsive at times and the ear piece speaker is BLOWN << That's a new one this time, is a bit excessive.
Troy.
1st slide had screen grounding issues.
2nd had a broken keyboard backlight.
3rd had a broken hinge.
4th had light leaks and dust got under the screen.
5th had keys get stuck and broken earpiece.
All these, except the first, had these issues straight out of the box.
They sent me a brand new cliq 2 for free this time instead of a refurbished slide. I haven't opened it, I'm just gonna sell it and get a Sensation when it comes out.

And Miguel, thanks for hanging in there (Holy **** 5 replacements) for all of us and I LOVE your OC Kernel, it's the smoothest and quickest for the slide!

Just finished rooting the replacement, Running on the latest CM7 Nightly at an amazing 864mhz! no ****!! (Migueltherockers kernel of course) I want to see what makes this thing lock up, maybe I can get it to 1ghz lol.
If i sent my Slide in a lot to HTC directly, you think they would replace my phone with something else as well?
My slide runs on AT&T, so I can't exactly go to T-mobile every time something happens.
you can try, I think that HTC might have a thing or 2 to say about the Rooting of the phone though. You will have to put everything back to stock (T-mobile rom)sense for them to do any type of warranty. But I don't think that many go that route as the retailer of the phone carries the replacement contracts.
Would problems picking up my location warrant a replacement? My location won't pick up on weather apps or gps.

May have to take my G back. A lot of touch screen issues where touches aren't being interpreted correctly... It is also very difficult to scroll up and down fluidly without selecting something... Honestly starting to get a little frustrated with the issue... Not cool at ALL.. Hoping this is not a bug. I actually have to push about 2-3x harder on this touch screen then any of my other phones.. If I just flick my finger to scroll through a page 1/2 the time my finger selects something instead of scrolling. That is also why I have been having so many keyboard issues. May do a hard reset tomorrow. And wait for some of you guys to get your in the next few weeks before returning mine.

I notice this happens while plugged in. I think it's a mix software/hardware issue.
When plugged into the wall with the default cable it goes retarded.
I tried again with my Nexus 7 cable/charger and it was fine.
Retarded again when plugged into my laptop.
The phone is ****ing beautiful, but **** like this makes me want to return it and I've only had it for 4 hours.
EDIT: This phone is the biggest pile of garbage I've ever touched in my life. It's locked up like apple and you can't even debloat it without it crapping out.

In Korea, it's known issue between OG users.
Cause of unstable voltage or no grounding(earthing) in your house.
OG uses 1.2A charger, it's too sensative.
Using ferrite core cable may reduce touch issue.
Someone uses Blackberry's charger. but not sure in other country
No issues with mine. Phones are not built equally. And I don't care that's its all locked up. I don't do any of that stuff anyway. People should know what they buy. I new it was going to be locked up before I bought it. You can never go wrong with a nexus device if that stuff is important to you. I just get tired of people complaining about phones that are locked up. There are more people out there that will buy this phone that have never herd of rooting or a locked downloader. I know two people that never herd of that stuff but love and buy android phones. Now granted that I'm saying this in the xda forums so it kinda pointless.

interesting about the grounding... kind of like a gfi popping.... hmmm. my house has no ground wires and has never been upgraded in the past 80 years so that is possible phenomenon ... phone does feel a bit cooler and my quadrant scores are also tick lower too after the firmware patch

My EVO 4G had the same exact problem when I tried to use my multi charger (car charger but could plug into the wall socket). It worked fine with the stock charger. Probably like they said, something about the grounding or just the charger is a piece of crap.
mine works perfectly, and I just dont get the people backing on this UI....very functional
I returned my Optimus G.
I wasn't able to replicate the problem in-store, so I guess it is an issue with my wiring at home.
This thread is funny because I noticed the same thing when I was looking at the Optimus G. Except this one happened on the one that was in the store. I was trying to pick between the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the LG Optimus G. I kept going back and forth not being able to make up my mind, but noticed the LG Optimus G had a very weird touch screen. It kept randomly selecting things when I tried to swipe from one side to another. I tried turning it sideways and noticed it didnt do it then so I was hoping there was something wrong with the floor model. I went ahead and got the LG Optimus G and I can easily say I am extremely happy I did. The phone has been great so far with zero problems and its already rooted which is terrific. I am having some problems removing the bloated ATT software but that is honestly the last thing on my list right now.

I went ahead and got the LG Optimus G and I can easily say I am extremely happy I did. The phone has been great so far with zero problems and its already rooted which is terrific. I am having some problems removing the bloated ATT software but that is honestly the last thing on my list right now.

I wouldn't remove att bloat yet. Freeze it at most. There has been issues caused by removing it.
I have the touch screen issue on both my lg charger and my old Samsung charger. Its very annoying. Not sure if it's worth returning the phone over because I love everything else about it but I would like to see if there is a way to fix the issue.

Noticed the bug few times too.
Not really a trouble, feels like it stops recognizing the gestures on the screen, cause simple touch actions still working good.
Pushing the sleep button fixing it.
By the way didnt happen to me last 3-4 days.
yep, i've noticed the same thing. a restart fixed the issue for now though. but yes, it was also while being plugged into the AC charger.
FYI, same issue happens with the nexus 4.
If its plugged into a usb port, the touch screen becomes unresponsive.
