Hi all,
Few questions all loosely linked to Froyo update...
I bought an Orange UK branded Desire and flashed an unbranded ROM to it. I have been offered a "HTC Application improvement" update but heard rumours about it giving de-branded handsets issues, is this true? Also do i need to install this update before i will be offered a Froyo update?
Next, i also read to successfully update a de-branded handset you need your Goldcard inserted. I have formatted my Goldcard on both the phone and the PC. Will it still be a Goldcard or do i need to re-create it?
Thanks all very much in advance

You definitively need Gold card inserted when doing all your upgrades. People who did upgrade without a Goldcard have issues with their Radio.
I had the Gold card inserted all the way till I got FROYO up n running.
hope this helps.

Hi,
I would be grateful for any assistance/advice. Basically I have an HTC Desire purchased direct from Vodafone. After seeing the recent update nonsense going on I decided to debrand and update to froyo, long story short, froyo not working (constant reboot, no sd, wifi, network) downgraded to the following:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Build number: 121.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
and now there is no froyo update via OTA, is this because it appears to have been pulled or because I am not running the correct build?
Cheers!
me same here
A had the same problem on O2 branded Desire. the trick is to keep the gold card that you made for the debranding inserted while you upgrade to froyo.
Thats it.

Goldcard is unnecessary if you do the following:
1. Unlock your branded phone.
2. Root it via unrevoked.
3. Update the radio rom to the latest froyo one.
4. Flash a rooted official froyo rom of your choice.

Exactly. the problems described in OP are common on debranded phones that upgrade to froyo. something about the CID, don't know any details. I debranded mine and with the gold card inserted did the upgrade and everything went fine. search the forums and you'll see a lot of user have this problem if the gold card is out.
Also when you debrand/upgrade remove the sim until the froyo upgrade is finished.
Yeah, I had the gold card still present, its my main SD card. Im pretty sure the only way forward is to upgrade the radio to v5 + via rooting. I might just wait for OTA to kick in again, as I wasn't so keen on rooting.
Although warranty is probably gone now anyways :S

Hi guys,
One of my friends bought HTC Desire, which was originally on Orange network. He got it unlocked, so he can use his SIM, but the phone still has some Orange branding. If I try to OTA, it says no update is available (maybe due to that Orange 2.2 is not yet available, or that the Orange SIM is not present in the phone).
Is there anyway to update the phone to WWE 2.2 Froyo? I checked the topic for Official ROMs in Development section, but couldn't download the ROM
Just make your SD card into a gold card and then use the 2.2 RUU file to update to the generic 2.2 ROM
And make sure you use the gold card every time you update your phone to avoid any issues. I de branded my Orange Desire within a week of getting it and have never looked back in the 5 or so months I've had it!

Hey all
I debranded my UK Vodafone Desire to update to the HTC stock 2.2 ROM. This worked just fine. A few weeks after my sd card went boom and I had to replace it, thus I lost my goldcard.
I want to update with the new OTA update from HTC but without the goldcard I understand that this would kill my wifi.
I'm guessing that I can just create a new goldcard using the same method as before (http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/) and then do an OTA update?
Yep, just make another gold card and away you go!
Vodafone have now release 2.10 and it's not branded in anyway, so you could just go to that for now
Cheers for that boss, appreciate it. Just wanted to make sure that I dont do anything dumb. I'm getting more risk adverse the older I get it seems!
I did think about flashing back to stock Voda roms but I have zero trust in them anymore!
One more dumb question! I can create the goldcard and then copy back over my music, pictures etc and just leave it in there right? I only have one sd card at the moment :-(
EDIT - Bollocks! The goldcard wasn't right and I lost my wifi after updating OTA. I had to downgrade to 2.1 using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256 after recreating the goldcard again back home on this win7 x64 box.
The downgrade has worked and Im not running the OTA update using the new goldcard.
Hi,
I recently had wifi issues with OTA update of HTC desire (patch). this i understand because I didnt have goldcard during the OTA.
So , I decided to make my everyday card (16Gb) into a gold card.... Done without any trouble.
My doubt is..
Should I use the update once more in this gold card also to continue receiving future OTA updates ?
In other words...do the phones identify the goldcards used for flashing and need the same goldcard for future updates???
(I know its a very silly question...but couldn't resist it..as I am naive...)...
request somebody to answer...
thanks in advance...

no you dont need the same goldcard, you could use one for one update and a diff one for another, dosent matter
Not naive, good question, something I wondered about too.
If I make my main card a gold card and use that after using a previous goldcard will it cause problems?
Also is there a reverse gold card procedure should I want to revert my desire to T Mobile OTA in the future without a gold card ?

i dont understand what you mean by a reverse goldcard if you have a t-mobile branded desire and you use a goldcard to flash a generic rom, you can still flash back to your branded rom without the need for a goldcard

To reverse it use a T-Mobile RUU, unless you have an SLCD screen!
I don't think the T-Mobile FroYo RUU is available yet.
Just check shipped-roms hopefully it'll turn up soon.
Thanks, I thought I would have to unroot or do something else.
So to confirm
T Mobile 1st wave Desire non SLCD
Gold Card made
HTC Rom 2.1 flashed with gold card in
OTA Upgrade to 2.2 with gold card in
OTA upgrade recent patch with gold card in - current state
If I wanted now to revert for example for a warranty issue:
I could just flash 2.1 T Mobile original rom without goldcard to get back to out of the box condition
I could then do the T Mobile OTA to 2.2 when it is released again with no worries about gold card not being present and killing the wifi connection.
Thanks for clarifying, I think it will help folks with Gold card concerns.

noooooooooo, if you are using the froyo ota you cant use a ruu to go back to 2.1 because you have the newer hboot!! if you flashed a custom rom to get froyo with the new hboot removed you can ....
Also found this thread with video tutorials, very good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
So what can you do if you have the new hboot from the OTA upgrade from HTC to go back to T-mobile 2.1 out of the box standard?
Hi guys, did a quick search but couldn't find a specific answer...
I have an Orange UK Desire that I've successfuly debranded using a Goldcard (made with help from these forums ). Since then, I just kept that micro SD card in the phone during normal use. It is the supplied card from Orange.
Ocassionally I get a notification about an OTA update, but my question is: Can I safely proceed with this update with my 'Goldcard' in its current state? I.e. I've since loaded some photos onto the card via usb, and have some other photos stored on it after taking some photos with the phone's own camera.
Just want to make sure, as I remember reading when initially debranding my phone to be careful about OTA updates if you dont have your goldcard in your phone.
Thanks in advance,
Its not advised to update any rooted rom with ota's.
What is your current rom?
Rooted?

If your phone isn't rooted then yes you can still use your goldcard with the photos on.
Yeah. If you're not rooted, just have the goldcard in the phone while applying the OTA update. It does not matter if you've got stuff on the goldcard.

No, not rooted, just debranded.
Ok, thanks a lot. Looks like I'll update when next prompted. Cheers!
OK I'll bite - how do you apply updates if you are rooted and debranded?
(I hope there's an easier way than flashing a new stock RUU then reinstalling everything ...)
