I am getting insurance for both my Evos and I saw this:
A $50 or $100 nonrefundable deductible will apply for approved claims for loss, theft, physical or liquid damage claims.
What makes it a $50 claim and what makes it a $100 claim?
thanks
this is odd.. just tried to add insurance and was told I had to do it within 30 days of owning the phone.. Any advice?
As a former Sprint Employee, here is what I can remember: Yes, you do have to add the TEP within 30 days of purchase. There are two tiers, basically standard phone are a $50 deductible while smart phones like ours are $100. It's been a while since I worked there, so things may have changed. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I highly recommend it. $100 for a new EVO is better than $500!

Nope, not true. It says so on their site:
http://shop.sprint.com/en/services/service_repair/phone_protection_services.shtml
Customers are eligible for enrollment within 30 days of activation or upgrade of a device.
Sprint offers a General Enrollment period either in march or may i forget where you can sign up if you missed your 30 day window.
You MAY be able to deactivate the EVO - activate a different phone that you've never used on the account... then add insurance then reactivate the evo and the insurance sticks
YMMV
I just called and they gave it to me.. Its been 60 days too. When I did chat at work the guy said no.. I did 611 on way home and got it on both evos

Sprint will not turn down a chance to make some money. Never will. Now if it was more like 3 months they would ask you to bring the phone in. By the way my cousin is a sprint employee
The deductible only applies to claims with Asurion (loss, theft, physical damage). Otherwise, the repair/replacement is free.

I was reading over the contract that I received after doing my upgrade this morning at Best Buy. I notice the $36 activation fee, the $350 advance devices ETF but still 30 days Sprint guarantee to opt-out. Wondering if this is the same with other people that activated with BestBuy also? Also if Sprint store activation still have the 30 days?
Negative..14 days to opt out, after 3 days you have to pay restocking fee, $350 early termination fee at Sprint store. They just went over this with me

I'm glad you posted this. People in our state need to know their rights. We DO have 30 days. I believe this is because of AB1010 in 2006 or 2007, but not sure.
I saw and heard the girl at BestBuy bring out the new Sprint subscriber agreement and thought boy am I glad I didn't get one of those. But yes they are active at BestBuy. I'm sure they will still enforce it with me even thought I didn't get one.

SERIOUSLY WTF happen to the LAWS!!!!! like I mentioned in another thread, is there not just a California Law, but a FEDERAL law created by the Federal Trade Commission that generalized the 30 day return policies for ALL BUSINESS SALE AND TRADE. its there for the good reason so business's cannot take advantage of Consumers RIGHTS for sale of faulty goods and or services. This is to prevent them from STEALING your money.
I guess companies are really getting bold right now that the economy is so messed up they are feeling too Arrogant that people don't have money to take them to courts or something.
Wake up people our freedoms are getting taken away from us slowly.

Federal law pretty much says that if you purchase an item and it isn't defective, its yours unless the store wants to be nice and exchange it for you. Sprint can say "All sales are final. No returns," if they want to, unless the item is defective.
Individual states may grant more rights, of course. Like California.

BestBuy is NOT the service provider. You have 30 days to return the phone, fine, but 14 days to cancel service and not be held liable to the contract term. Don't confuse the two. Be careful and triple check the details with Sprint directly as well. Never hurts.

Yes Best Buy is not the service provider, this was understood by myself. Best Buy have you to agree to a contract and who is this contract for? Sprint. It doesn't matter what the Sprint's store or even Sprint.com has as their Subscriber Agreement. I didn't sign or agree to those terms. While in most parts BB's contract might be the same as Sprint but I only agree to the term in the one provided to me by BB for Sprint. It's clear that Best Buy did update the terms of their contract for Sprint subscribers as the ETF is now $350 for smart devices. The way that I see this is if there were to be an issue with the 15 or 30 days Best Buy would have to resolve it and not Sprint.
BestBuy can't resolve anything with the service contract term, as the service is provided by Sprint whether BestBuy makes a "honest mistake" or not. They can only resolve any 14 or 30 day return issue with the hardware.
So if you're going to rest on the laurels that if BestBuy makes a mistake and tells you 30 days cancellation when in fact it's 14 days and then BestBuy has the power or ability to "fix it" on their own, think again. All BestBuy can do to fix their boo-boo is call into to a Sprint customer care line (like any customer would do as well) and try to explain that they made a mistake. A word is good enough for the wise.
Yeah our (Sprint) activation fee went up to $36.00, but that's to ensure the monthly cost is going to stay lower.
Exchange policy changed to 14days verses 30 I believe they did this to reduce some overhead of people returning the phones. There is a $35.00 restock fee.
If you want to return the phone do it with in 3 days that's the only way for the activation charge to be refunded.
Now keep in mind guys/gals if you bank with a credit union you get 10% off your monthly bill, and you don't pay the activation fees.

I went with the best buy insurance. There is no deductible but they do not cover lost or stolen phones. Plus if you pay for the full 2 years at once they give you a discount. I believe it came out to $170, which is about $7 a month.

This is the number 1 reason I went with Sprint's TEP.
Worst case, I pay $150 for a new phone, and if it an actual hardware issue (not water or something "I" did) Sprint replaces it for free.
I got a replacement ET4G (bad GPS), and 2 replacement Samsung Moments (Bad USB Ports) all for free. Also got a replacement moment when it was less than 2 months old (stolen) for $100.
IMO, if you don't have some sort of insurance on your phone, you're nuts.
over two years with insurance if you file a claim, you will spend $414. if you break your phone without insurance the phone will cost $549.
personally, i have two children under three years old that throw objects very well. that includes cell phones laying around, so i have insurance on it
if you break your phone without insurance the phone will cost $549.
YOu're forgetting phone prices come down substantially after the first 6 months...
Personally I have only needed insurance once... paid 150 deductible for what would have cost me at most $200 to buy off ebay/craigslist for the same 'used' phone. Could have saved myself the year of premiums.
Didn't buy the insurance on the S3...remember manufacturer defects are still covered under it's warranty as well. (Though I don't recall how long that is just now... 90 day, or 1 yr).

I opted out of insurance. I got the HD2 a month before it was released when I worked for t-mobile and just recently sold it when I bought this phone through sprint. I just go out of my way to be careful wIth a phone.

Personnal preference is squaretrade. Wait for a 30% discount and it will be $95 for two years of coverage
Insurance, isnt always for you. its a given that youll be babying your phone. it covers the world around you. Sprint - Asurion TEP bills your cellphone to your account at your request. the only caveat is that its 150 dollar every claim deductable. im replacing my galaxy s3 in an insurance claim and since its so new its still currently on backorder. but they say itll take 5-7 business days. normally if you get your claim in before 10pm you get a new device out within 24 hours. its quite nice when it works as it should.
So last Friday I bought my SGSIII at Radio Shack. Dude asked me if I want their insurance. I tell him "No I already have insurance through Sprint" last night I get home and my phone falls out of the car. Screen cracks in the upper right corner. I call Sprint to file a claim and they tell me that Friday July 27th the insurance was removed from the account. LOL WTF? Radio Shack guy deleted my insurance. Now I have to go in circles with Sprint and Assuron to see if they will add the insurance back on and take my claim. But I'm thinking that I should do into Radio Shack and demand a brand new phone free of charge. Who agrees?
Im guessing your from the states and Im from the uk. But if i had this problem then i wiuld honestly go to Radio shack and ask if you coukd still have the insurence. As it is still withing a 14 day prerod. And then if they agree and it all gets set up then i would wait a few after the insurence is active and then claim on the insurence lol.

I'm not sure if Radio Shack has that and if they cover damage. I think the 14 days is if you are not satisfied with the product.
"If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, and it is in its original new condition, simply call us within 14 days of the activation or process date shown on your sales receipt"
However I will talk to the store manager because I do not feel that I should have to wait for Sprint to determine if they will accept the claim because of Radio Shack's error. With a crack there is always a potential for more damage. Crack gets larger etc... We'll see what they say
If he removed your insurance without telling you, you should try demanding a new phone.

demanding a new phone from the shack wont work. They wont even think about covering damage done by the consumer. Your best bet is to call asurion and sprint and hope they feel it was a misunderstanding. Did you always have insurance b4 getting the s3?
I work at radio shack..
From my experience, it was the sales mans fault for not putting it back on.
We aren't supposed to sell sprints insurance. So when he upgraded the phone he had to select premium data and didn't check the tep insurance. It usually gets removed and you have to add it back on. Then again you could've had some **** of a salesman.
Usually we're pretty good at radio shack, we help the customers out alot.
Go in there let them know the situation. It could've been an inexperienced sales guy. Bring in proof of having insurance as well from your last phone

If not, you can get radioshqck insurance BEFORE you complain. Go the next few days and turn your phone in. The deductible is less than sprints but they have to ship the phone out so you need a backup phone. Usually takes 3-14days from my understanding

Same thing happened to me when I got my phone from best buy. Declined their insurance because I had sprint's. Got home and checked online to make sure insurance was still there, but it had been removed. Chatted with sprint and was told they themselves removed it because instead of paying the usual $8 it had gone up to $11 because of the "suggested retail price when it launched and the rising replacement cost of high end phones, they found it necessary to increase TEP monthly charges". They put it back once I agreed to the change in price

We always have nothing but problems regarding insurance with customers that purchase their devices at RadioShack. Most customers do not return to RadioShack when they have a problem, they go to Sprint repair location. Then we have to explain that they don't have insurance and RadioShack duped them.
It's an all-around headache for me at least. I'm not knocking any employees here, but RadioShack's marketing on their insurance is deceitful and shady.
EASY.. Demand the manager log in to sprint terminal and add the insurance back, it can be done.

This hes pissed you messed up his rssp and post attch. That could be his job but if you get what you want no need to have him get axed
Radio Shack did not do anything for me. I talked to the store manager. She talked to her DM and they sand they will not replace the phone. I faxed her my current Sprint account info showing there is no insurance and faxed her my last bill showing I was billed and had it prior and still nothing. She is supposed to be contacting their Sprint sales rep to see if he will do anything about it. It's not a matter of getting the insurance added back on. it's a matter of getting the phone replaced and not having to pay full price for another.

If it's repaired is there a deductible? Sorry, the way you worded it sounds like that.
Sorry, repairs don't cost you a dime.
There are two service plans, both cover repairs, one covers accidental damage w/ a deductible.
You pay a deductable. $100. If they deem it unfixable or too many broken things they will replace it. However for me it took a whole week. Best thing however is j can give it to a radio shack store and they will send it out for you. Secondly. U can get store credit equal to ur phone value later down the line. Like say the Galaxy S IV comes out if j vet where I'm going with this

So, in summary...is it a good choice to take this program over Asurion? Asurion deductible is $150 vs $100 from Radioshack and $10 monthly fee vs $7.49.
I think I have a window still to apply the radioshack insurance, but wasn't sure if it was a good deal or not :/
Well, just an update. They still have my phone as of Aug 30th or so. I talked with them via online chat last night and they mentioned that they can't repair it and they're going to send me a "comparable spec'd" device. I'm a little scared they're going to send me an Evo. I've sent them an email with a request for the sph-l710. Hopefully they're cool about it and will send me a new GSIII or a check for retail price of it.
Otherwise I'll be quite upset.
Radio shack won't cover lost or stolen tho. Have to have the device to claim....only fallback really
Hopefully they'll send an S3, an EVO would piss me the fu¢k off.

Yeah, but I got the device on July 1st. Also, Assuraunt (Radioshack's 3rd party insurance), shipped the phone and it is to arrive at my house today by 4:30pm. I have work at 4:00 so it's going to be a long day. lol
I'll let you guys know if it's an SIII or Evo. :'-(
It's a brand new SIII. Complete with a new battery, too. Awesome.
which insurance do you guys recommend for my new note 2 in case it gets stolen or lost?
also i got my daughter an iphone 5(i couldn't convince her to get the s3 instead), so i need insurance for it as well in case it is lost or stolen.
Thanks
I use Sprint's TEP. It's pretty good.... Expensive than others.

best insurance I found is worth ave group.
with coupon codes its $66.20 a year for $2000 in coverage unlimited usage and $25 deductible.
Covers damage and theft but not loss then again if its lost IT IS stolen so file a police report.
sprints TEP is $11 a month in other words $132 a year AND the deductible is $200 !!! and IIRC you can only use it once a year (I could be wrong on that)
I think worth without coupon code is $75 a year or something like that. way way cheaper and better than sprints tep and it covers all your toys (I have all my phones my laptop and my camera's on it)
just sign up for the student plan.
Squaretrade
I have had no problems with squaretrade
their quick also much cheaper the Sprint TEP

i thought squaretrade doesn't cover lost or stolen?
Sprint total protection.
Applies gps to your phone if lost, can track from your pc and they give you a new phone if broken.
Extra 8 bucks a month.

It is $11 for the note 2...and the gps tracking is optional. If you don't set it up before hand it won't work. Not to mention most stolen phones are either imediately turned off or hard reset. (though I have talked to a few people that have found their phone this way)

your right sorry
they do not
Sprints coverage has 2 parts. One is insurance and the other is tep. The insurance is from asurion, you pay 200 and they ship you a new phone and you get it by the next business day. The tep which is total equipment protection is used whenever you have a problem with your phone that isn't covered under warranty anymore. For example if your speaker goes out they will fix it for free or if like me your screen starts messing up they will get you a whole new phone. If not for that then I would have to take the Samsung warranty and they ask that you mail it to them, wait while they fix it and then they ship it back. It can take from 2 to 3 weeks. Sprint will still check your phone but fixing it will cost 35 or more I believe. I think its 8 for insurance and 5 for tep, but I believe the insurance used to be 6. Not quite sure about any of this as it is just off the top of my head. I do know that the 11 or 13 package has 2 parts.
I have best buy insurance. $169 one time charge (you can opt for monthly) and no deductible ever.
Guaranteed 5 day turn around, they give you a loaner in the meantime.
I don't think they cover theft, perhaps if you have a police report.

best buy does not cover lost or stolen

Best buy covers absolutely everything except lost or stolen. Unlimited claims and no deductible! They order you a new phone and give you a loaner If you need one. As far as lost or stolen, if you have their geek squad, there is a free app called locked And found that tracks where your phone is and takes pictures of what it sees with the front facing camera (a thiefs face maybe?) and reports to a website only you have access to.
For those who have the protection plan get a hold of your gsp# off your receipt because the app asks for it, or call best buy mobile.

The best buy program is junk. I had it and tried to get it fixed while traveling. First of all the replacement store would only give me a loner if I was able to return it to the same store. Now someone traveling like I was is screwed plus the loner was any phone not the same phone. The second issue was they said my phone wasn't broke enough because my problem was intermittent. They actually told me to go back to the parking and break the screen then they would replace it.

Not trying to be a argumentative but I don't think your complaints are valid.
1) I understand requiring you to return to the same store is not as convenient as possible... but creating the infrastructure to manage inter-store returns for loaner require technology investments which would surely increase the cost of insurance. Besides, most insurance programs don't even have this feature. It's inconvenient for travelers but making accomodations for such cases may not necessarily be worth the investment.
Also, loaners are temporary. To match your phone... and everyone else's, best buy must have at least one of every phone ever, for each store. (At least within the last two years). Do you expect them to open a new box everytime they dont have a matching loaner availabe?...assuming they even have them in stock?
As per your second complaint I don't know what the problem was, but bb doesn't automatically do replacements. .. instead will do repairs on fixable problems. Correct me but I believe that's what happened. They offered to do a repair but you wanted a replacement.
I think the only thing you can criticize bb for is they were asking you to commit insurance fraud.

its not even insurance. its a protection plan. similar, but not the same thing. i dont know if you can call it insurance fraud unless it is underwritten by an indemnity company.
that being said, you are correct, sir.
Sprint TEP + Kaspersky One, insurance and the ability to track, lock and wipe your phone.
You can also take pictures of the person using it.
It's win....
I dumped sprint insurance after having it on multiple phones for over 8 years. Monthly charge and deductible for the note were way too high for me. I switched to ensquared (or something like that)
