My mda is dead my display flatcabel is broken...
now i got to recover my contacts that i have saved on my sd card.
any idea how to restore them on pc?
Thanks
If you saved them on your SD card then just put the card into a card reader and copy them to your pc. Another thing, even though your display is dead, you may still be able to access the phone over activesync if it still boots.
I did already hard reset cause in first i meant that it was something wrong with software...
it destroyed all data on phone exept on sd card, i copied backup contacts file on pc but i dont have an idea how to open contacts on pc (is there somme kind of viewer or maybe virtual pocket pc for Xp)? i hear active sync signal when i connect Mda via usb but i dont see anything so i am not able to install anything or to do synchronization. And i still need my contacts...
Help
I've read where you can open the file that had your contacts in it up in a hex editor and it will allow you to view your contacts. Other than that, I don't know of any program that will open it up normally though. If all you're needing to do is see them, then that method should be ok. If you need to do more with them though you may want to explain what program you backed them up with and see if anyone else has any ideas.
By the way, there are programs that allow you to view what you would see on your phone on your PC. If you're still getting a good sync then using one of them should work. Here's the link to one I've tried that works well. - http://www.mymobiler.com/
I have a Diamond and a Blackstone and I can copy my contacts from one phone onto my computer via Windows Mobile Device Center to save them as Outlook contacts, and then I can plug the other phone in and copy them from Outlook to the phone.
I wanted to buy a D820 from my friend to use as a backup phone. Does anyone know if it will be possible for me to copy my contacts from Outlook onto the phone, and if so, what software will I need? Thanks.
DId the Desire come with a CD, in the excitement i may have over looked and misplaced it, if s can i download the software?
Nope it didn't come with a CD, it's on the MicroSD card Plug the Desire into your computer in Hard Disk mode and you can install it. I'm sure it should be available online though
hmmm i remember the option of things to choose comming up on pc before, dosnt come up anymore :S, jsut charges and i cant do anything else
If you swipe down the status bar and press charging you should be able to change it?
hmmm doesnt say charging on the notifications bar, :S , its definatly charging, this is strange, i was def getting it before lol
That's quite odd! I'm not sure what to suggest then.. but if you do manage to change it you'll be sorted
wen i go to the bottom right the drive comes up, and in my computer, but i cant access it

Do not format the SD Card, it will wipe the HTC Sync executable installation file.
Do you have USB debugging enabled?
1. From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings > Applications > Development.
2. Make sure the USB debugging check box is selected.
You can always download HTC Sync from http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=312&act=sd&cat=3
ok iv installed htc sync from that link, and i done the usb debug option, it now connects, installs a load of stuff, but i cnt access the drive through My Comp and on HTC sync it says "disconnected"

Try turning off the phone and turn it back on again while connected to the PC via the USB cable, and then select the Disk Drive option.
What version of Windows are you running? Is it 32/64 bit?
thanks a bunch guys, the restart got it working,
one last thing, how do i go about putting music and video onto the device, at the moment theres 3 folders, footprints, backup and lost dir, also does this HTC sync auto transfer photos and videos you take to the pc like the nokia programs did?

No problem Bud, glad that worked.
If I remember correctly, just create a Music folder in the root of your SD card and create folders within that folder.
e.g. Storage Card\Music\Chris Brown\[the mp3 file]
To store video files, create a new folder called DCIM, and then create another folder within that called 100MEDIA, and place picture files and video files within that.
The structure will be Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA\[picture file] for pictures, and Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA\[video file] for videos.

No problem Bud, I had a Symbian phone once... it was the Sony Ericsson P990i.
How times change...
I have also recently moved over to Android OS, used to have an HD and HD2 before that using Windows Mobile OS. Loving the Desire
Hi,
this evening I had an update of HTC Sync to 3.0. Everything worke well, however, in the "Device Panel" I do not see information about the SD card (in the first instance Sync let me know that my phone had no SD card at all!). nor can I sync data from the card.
On the panel, there is also an option to install apps, and when checking, I found to apps in the folder, FDHttpd.apk and FDH16ttpd.apk (if I remember the latter's name properly).
Possibly, I should install one of these on the phone? And which one?
Thank you for your comments /suggestions
Hi,
I had thie same issue when I updated HTC Sync yesterday (HTC Desire).
What I did was unmount the SD card (Menu/Settings/SD & Phone Storage), once I got the notification it was unmounted I simply mounted it again and the sync worked. I also restarted the HTC Sync software during the unmount/mount cycle.
I never needed to install any apk from the HTC Sync folder.
Hope this helps.
Steve
This seems to be an issue with the HTC Sync application on the phone, or rather the inability to update it.
Uninstall "HTC Sync" on the phone (not your PC) and reconnect to the PC to automatically get the version provided with the PC HTC Sync (FDHttpd.apk, or FDhttpd16.apk if you are using Android 1.6).
I work technical support for a software company. Many times i have used my phone to usb tether with the clients computer if they are having internet problems.
What i usually do is place HTC sync on the disk drive since i am able to use it as a disk drive without drivers.
Is there a folder or zip i can extract from HTC Sync and place it on my SD card?
That way i can have the drivers on hand to install on any pc without installing htc sync?
Hopefully im making sense
