if i debrand my uk tmobile desire with a goldcard and a 1.21etc ruu, will it network lock me?
hearing conflicting reports on this.
just going to debrand today if possible, so i can get OTA 2.2. not interested in custom roms or root at all.
I just debranded my T-Mobile Desire with RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.
No problems. Should have backed up my settings and data, because installing the ROM will clear everything, but it's worth it just to get 2.2.
After that froyo showed up when pressing check for updates.
I debranded my phone from orange.
My network got locked. However, I just need to pay 7.99 GBP to buy a code from an Ebayer and I got the phone unlocked in 5 mins.
So i think it is not a problem to debrand.
Are you guys able to upgrade to FroYo now? I'll be debranding and installing a debranded 2.1 when I get home.

First off, I've had WM phones for years and flashed them to bits but I'm pretty nooby when it comes to Android, so bear with me.
Alrighty then, after all the hoo-ha with the last update I've held off debranding my Orange Desire for all this time - I got mine on Orange launch day so I've had to put up with the Orange crap for a long while. Basically all I want to do it debrand and get FroYo, I'm not interested in rooting yet but I can't really afford to unlock it (student loan is getting very low this summer). I understand I need a Goldcard etc and I'm happy enough with the procedure.
My question, when the 2.2 RUU appears, will it lock my Desire if I flash it with the Goldcard?
edit - Another question, if I flash to an old debranded ROM, will I have to run through the problematic updates before I'm offered the 2.2 OTA update, hence locking my phone?
Use your goldcard for debranding and updating and you should be fine. Personally I would just buy an unlock code and debrand to an older ROM and then do any OTA updates.
Mine is Orange debranded and updated just fine when using the goldcard.

Thanks for the reply, I'll wait for the RUU and see how it goes I guess.
Anyone know how long it usually takes for the RUU to appear after the OTA is put out?
Hey guys,
I am a total newb on all this debranding, flashing business. Spend the past week checking all sorts of forums etc and also waiting endlessly for froyo to be released to our Desires! Problem is i am still a bit unclear, so if anyone could give me help, that'd be really nice
Ok, here is the thing:
I have an Orange branded phone, got it via phones4u on orange, ive already unlocked it with a code and currently using 02 Sim on it.
I'd like to retain my warranty, so wouldn't like to root, so my other choice is flashing it right ? :S
I just want the stock froyo on my HTC, but since its orange branded i heard that there might be some problems with radio or something :S
Tbh, I dont even know what radio means! LOL i just want the stock Froyo released by HTC, on my phone without waiting for orange to bring their crapped down version
Any help, please!!!
PS: ive got a spar memory card for any gold card business, just need some pointers for that
De-branding could technically void your warranty but you'll need to search for making a goldcard on the forum and then flash with either 2.1 and update via OTA or Froyo (though I'm not sure that's possible just yet).
oh i see , once i flash it , will i have to install anything else like radios etc? :S
By using the stock rom, does it mean that, next time htc releases a update i can just do it ota?
there is no other way apart from voiding warranty is there ?:S
As you've already unlocked you're good to go! The whole thing should take about 30 minutes but you'll lose all you're data.
I think you'll have to void your warranty but I reckon it's worth it to rid of Monopoly, Bowling, and Orange-bloody-Messenger and get Froyo now.
just one thing what are the chances of my phone bricking up and where can i get the stock rom with froyo released by htc? Also once i got the stock rom, what happens with updates? will OTA be working properly or do i have to reflash it everytime there is an update??
can someone show me a step by step guide on how to do this all? :O
I am a total newb on this

Well I've just stepped through that portal... Unlocked the phone then OTA 2.1 update followed by OTA 2.2 stock rom. Now running Froyo on 'Orange' phone.
Flawless, just going through my apps now. Needed the newest version of HTC Sync though.

Hi there
I have an Orange branded Desire running HBoot version 0.75 (if that makes any difference)
I'm wanting to root my phone and try various different ROM's out there...
What I need clarifying is whether I will need to unlock my phone first of all after hearing stories about Orange handsets becoming simlocked after updating to FroYo, although I think that this may just be in cases where the handsets werent rooted first....
hope that makes sense!
Cheers!
By SIM locked people are meaning that you can't use another carriers sim in there, if you are with Orange then it doesn't matter. I've an Orange handset and rooted with Unrevoked and running OpenDesire 3.2 all working fine and dandy.
Yes dude you would be advised to. I have found Orange to be so tetchy. I had an upgrade from HTC on my brand new desire and installed it and it locked my phone up. It was nothing to do with the sim or carrier, it was by the manufacturer to their own phone. I unlocked mine as I heard so many people were having issues with Orange.

Got an HTC Desire from work on O2. We had it unlocked the other day by O2 and I'm now running it with an Orange SIM. I thought that once unlocked Froyo would be available but when I check the software update I'm shown that I've got 2.1 running and no updates available.
Help!

You've probably got a branded desire, you would need to flash an unbranded rom and then search for updates I think.
Hi mate,
If you use the Root meathod by search the forum for Unvolked meathod install the recovery program by following the guide, then putting the flash zip update froyo rom from this forum on your sd card, backup using nandroid then flash and when phone restarts you have updated 2.2 android on the phone.
Any problems send me a msg.
i dig out some instructions for you, that i followed, the guys on here are excellent when it comes to helping you, see my post help please, in development sections.

Yes. That would be the quickest way to get Froyo 2.2.
It will also void your warranty though.
That is true, however HTC state if you root your HTC at your own risk,
but my phone provider stated if i have any problems they don't check.
Im with Virginmedia. mobile. who are putting the rom out next month and your have to download and zip so you will need to root it to do that.
Thanks
Tapper
I've just bought a brand new desire on an O2 contract, which of course means it was locked to O2 only. I've now unlocked it and am using my Voda SIM card in it which is working perfectly.
However, today I read that Vodaphone relased the 2.2 OTA update, but when I try to check for updates it says my phones software is up to date.
Does this mean I need to put the official Vodaphone ROM on to allow me to update to 2.2? I'm a bit put off about rooting my device though, as I've got the 0.83 bootloader and I'm pretty sure it's a SLCD screen, which I've heard can have a few issues if putting new ROM's onto.
Cheers for any advice,
You are running branded O2 software, so you will not get Vodafone's update. You need to wait for O2 to release an update, or debrand and run stock 2.2.
OK, cheers mate

or debrand, root flash a stock 2.1, unroot and update OTA to 2.2
